Doing the rounds. Rothwell has signed (Pre-window) with sheffield United for 600k. wages are now basically finished. great move and best of luck. the spl isn't for everyone who is a star down south.

17 Dec 2025 18:52:54
Good move all round deecee.

17 Dec 2025 21:14:16
In the grand scheme of things you wouldn't class him as a star down south.

17 Dec 2025 22:34:10
Good all round and thank him for his efforts while with us.

Good player. Honest pro. Joined at wrong time and played out of position.

17 Dec 2025 23:02:05
Just don't understand why Martin used Rothwell as a six, mans a number eight all day long, I expected to see him driving us up the park, Rothwell is a talented footballer we just never seen it, or very briefly.

17 Dec 2025 23:04:49
Nice to be nice, BUT, he was poor from game 1 and got worse. i'm 70 and my fitness levels are not a great deal worse than his,
Get back to what you know son, and take the easy money and retire fairly well, off.

17 Dec 2025 23:17:00
If we move him on 600k plus save wages a positive move.

17 Dec 2025 23:31:35
Bar 72 I agree with u he was shockingly bad.

But he is a talented player mate.

Does anyone think maybe Scottish game isn't as easy or poor as wee say it is?

Many players come up here and fail we could rhyme 10 players from good to very good to top class who come up here and struggle.

18 Dec 2025 00:14:43
Kick and rush with bruisers Stevie.

18 Dec 2025 00:30:16

Lee Martin
Phil Bardsley

I've prob missed a good few?

18 Dec 2025 01:37:01
Totally agree my star, he did play at Leeds deeper but best position is further forward.

18 Dec 2025 05:59:11
Our league is still poor compared to the championship and bottom table premier sides but that doesn't mean that players can't fail.

Very unique situation playing for Rangers Mentally, Aribo spoke about it pretty well how it's the little things like not being able to leave the house, use social media, Even playing games without being criticised.

Not every footballer is cut out to win week in week out and that's totally fine.

Rothwell is a good player, Good enough Technically to play for us but it's clearly the mental side isn't.

18 Dec 2025 08:17:54
Attitude also a problem for many. Complain about Scottish football all u like but the very least you should expect is to be fit. Can have all the ability in the world but if your blowing out your backside after 10 mins the problem isn't Scotland.

18 Dec 2025 08:25:05
It really frustrates me that we continually label our full league as hammer throwers, bruisers etc to justify why players don't succeed.

Yeah our league isn't great, but the majority of team do actually play some decent football.

Personally I think Rothwell 'failed' as:

1. our preseason left him, and many others, in poor physical condition,

2. he was played out of position in a system that was destined to fail, and

3. he was thrown in to games far to early.

18 Dec 2025 09:24:27
Completely agree with EHL here.
Rothwell and the rest of the team have looked unfit this season just look at Miovski before Rohl came in he's another who looked so unfit but looks sharper now in games.

18 Dec 2025 09:55:18
Rothwell looks to me one of the most unfit players we have ever had. Blowing our his hole after 15 mins sauntering about middle of the park.

18 Dec 2025 09:59:03
I don't think Rothwell failed cause of mentality he played for Leeds they might not be as big as us but there is a demand to win there. There fans go mental even if they don't beat the top 4 in England. I think like EHL said fitness and out of position are most likely what's caused him to fail.

18 Dec 2025 10:44:45
I don't know why managers don't play players in their best positions.

Martin did some amount of damage in 123 days.

18 Dec 2025 11:15:35
We seem to be blaming all Rothwell's ills on Martin.
But he obviously hasn't impressed Rohl or he would be involved more.

18 Dec 2025 11:31:31
Agree on your first 2 points EHL but your third is a mad take as your talking about a seasoned pro who had played plenty of games for Leeds in a promotion season so he should have beengood to go from the start.

He wasn't a project player so he should have been thrown in as he should of had something to offer but he didn't.

18 Dec 2025 11:48:26
Some just don't fit we have had hunners of them, would Sheff United be interested in a free Matondo and Dowell, possibly pay them a few quid to take them?

18 Dec 2025 12:07:01
Like a lot on here, i think Rothwell is a talented midfielder and have absolutely no doubt about that, although it hasn't worked out for him at Rangers for whatever reasons ? Like i've said before, i've got cousins who are leeds United season ticket holders of many years and when we signed Rothwell, they said he'd be a superb signing for us ? Doesn't make him a bad player.

18 Dec 2025 12:41:45
EHL

Can I ask why they can't then get him fit enough and use him in his correct position and see if he can turn a corner
Why are we letting the small era of Martin ruin a potentially good player then?

I don't get that, surely our club and coaches have the ability to get him fit and then be able to utilise the player

Why are we seemingly throwing in the towel with him if potentially we're at fault under a regime that wasn't fit for purpose at the start of his career with us?

18 Dec 2025 12:58:41
Wishy not saying Leeds aren't a big club but Rothwell wasn't exactly coming into Leeds as the man to change the team like he was for us. He's just a decent player for a good Leeds side Vs a Good player for a decent Rangers side. That's a massive difference.

18 Dec 2025 13:19:57
Correct wishy I posted about other clubs in the uk that fans expect to win games all the time and he would have got that at Leeds.

Mph also correct if it was just Marti/fitness then why has Rohl not liked him either?

We some on here debate use managers as knowing more than us about a player but when it doesn't suit they failed to mention it like with Rothwell and come out with talented player crap. He may well be but he has showing no talent whatsoever at our club and that's all that matters to Rangers fans what you do in a Rangers strip.

18 Dec 2025 15:57:24
Stig, right now the simple answer is that because he's been injured - which is a recurring theme as the the team try to adapt from Martin's training style to Rohls.

I assume that while he's been out injured the club and the player have come to the agreement that the best course of action for both is to move on.

18 Dec 2025 18:02:20
We need to accept that every player who come stop us won't instantly be able to play to the best of their ability. I have said before studies have shown it can take well over 10 games for a player to show their best. so getting fit, then match fit and also understanding the system.

If we bring in 2 or 3 that is less of a challenge but we have to bring in around 10 every year as we normally sack the manager and then throw the baby out with the bathwater.

let us try for once to stick with Rohl no matter how this season ends up; keep the better players and then add in January and next summer. what we have done hasn't worked so is it not worth trying that to see if it makes a change. as fans we continue to say what the definition of madness is and then want the same thing to happen when we don't win the league.

18 Dec 2025 19:12:11
That's different with Rangers players though Angus, they don't impress in a few games they can't play.

18 Dec 2025 20:32:43
Star that was my point (I need to make them more concise). fans refuse to accept it takes time to get fit/adapt/learn tactics. and when we change manager it takes matches for that to happen again.

18 Dec 2025 20:47:05
I agree with storm inly matters what they do for us Rothwell was decent innengland but not a star if he was a star leeds would have took hin even as a squad player to prem they didn't think he was good enough either.

We need to stop shoping for english club rejects i don't mind if players are 21 or under and potential but beyond that point i think most clubs have already made their minds up that they are not good enough so your chances of selling them back for high fee are very slim we should be focused on Europeans asian and americas.

18 Dec 2025 20:47:34
And of course best of young scottish talent. that we need to start playing more.

18 Dec 2025 21:26:42
Angus i got your point mate, it just doesn't happen at Rangers, big majority wanted Raskin sold around 18 months ago when he was returning from injury, like Bajrami in the summer now wanting him in the team, you'd think they would give them time, but it just doesn't happen with many.

18 Dec 2025 22:02:56
Well if it isn't the two "it takes time merchants" you said RM needed time and were wrong. Let me let you two into a little secret about our club, you don't get much time here! We are expected to win 99% of our games and that will never ever change but we fans can forgive bad performances and dips in form as long as we see the players trying to give it their all.

Granted some seem to have got that message since Rohl took over aforementioned Bajrami but again some seem to have not got that message and skirt through matches doing the bare minimum.

Angus to finish off with, it's clear as day that Rohl is going to get time as he knows what is required here. Win! He is trying to prioritise that over style of play and as 99.99% on this page will say, that's what matters most and he can try things when we are winning.

18 Dec 2025 22:43:35
Bigbluejim, very cool, the reason we have zero success, we can't sign 8/9 players and give them a few months for setting in and if they don't settle fast enough for you get rid, been tired of you type of fan for a very long time now, try supporting the players and our club and see what what happens.

18 Dec 2025 23:48:52
Star honestly I thought you said you'd played the game at a professional level? But you seem to lack the basic understanding that fans expect to see EFFORT as a bare minimum. So "my type" of fan as you say expects a certain degree of EFFORT and if this is shown then we can get behind players. But I will not give players a free pass just because they recently joined, if they want to half arse it then they shouldn't be joining a club with high expectations.

I mean let's face it Star if we had just given RM more time as he needed time to settle then where would we be now? Probably bottom!

Will finish by saying that I support all our players but calling them out for bad performances is allowed you know or saying that certain players should learn to pass etc etc.

19 Dec 2025 02:07:11
Jim people need time to settle. For instance I do glazing I mainly do new build site work / commercial glazing I've not done a lot of domestic glazing I. E peoples homes it's not a massive difference but I reckon if I went from site work to houses my work quality would probably decrease and take me a little while to get back up to the standard I am on for commercial and site work.

The point I'm getting at is it's the same thing for the most part but a different setting and it takes a while to adapt. Football is the same as it is in any other job. Not everything is the same!

19 Dec 2025 06:07:17
Correct Bigbluejim, but just support the players or just remain silent, yes fans like you.

19 Dec 2025 06:10:25
I wanted Martin out after seeing he wasn't capable of doing the job, you write players off after a few months, try supporting them Bigbluejim and maybe if all fans did support them we've see a difference, but this booing players after a few games takes it's toll on most players but fans can't even see it.

19 Dec 2025 06:30:43
Star it's called the eye test, I said RM wasn't good enough after the first few weeks and all you kept telling me was that he needed time and would come good. Like I said Star I'm willing to give any player time to settle etc but they must show that they are trying and giving us full effort that's the minimum of what's required at our club is it not? But I guess "fans like me" ain't allowed to hold players to certain standards and let them keep putting sub par performances in.

I guess I could just say that every player we sign will reach the very top of the game ha! Will that make me a fan like you!

19 Dec 2025 06:42:47
Nope, but just you try and support our players and maybe you will see a difference Bigbluejim, you probably booed Dresser and would like him back now, maybe not you personally but thousands did that would like him back now.

19 Dec 2025 08:53:09
Quite simple for me…. fitness, coach, position, injuries……blah blah blah.

He simply couldn't handle the weight of the jersey. Nothing he has ever experienced comes close to playing for us, certainly under these conditions.

He sh@t the bed! He's built for something else, not us.

19 Dec 2025 09:34:22
Star I don't get which part you don't seem to understand, players have to show effort and desire to win and unfortunately a majority of these players don't do this week in week out. The players that are trying I'm right behind just like with Rohl, he get's it's about winning first and is focused on this before he even tries to implement his style.

No even though I wasn't a fan of Dessers overall play he scored goals so I would have personally kept him but no I'm not a fan of looking back so he can now stay where he is and we look forward.

19 Dec 2025 10:56:53
Its not the fault of the fans. The players are just not good enough to play at the level of Rangers. Dick advocaat made 8 signings and won the treble with a brand new team in his first season.

Why were they able to perform whilst adapting to a new country? Was it because they had a winning mentality and actual footballing ability? Why can't people just admit that the players are not good enough instead of using every excuse going to explain why they are failing?

19 Dec 2025 12:27:52
Bigbluejim, some players settle fast some don't, but they get zero time at Rangers.
? won't even waste my time with you.

19 Dec 2025 12:40:42
Dick advacat spent 35 million pounds his first season in today's money that's ridiculous. We couldn't afford that today.

19 Dec 2025 13:27:12
So you agree that the issue is the standard of player Sam?

19 Dec 2025 14:13:24
Star, I swear you literally read parts you want and parts you don't, players get time to settle and perform to their best as long as in the meantime they are showing effort and desire to win. If they can't handle that and the expectation then don't join a huge club like Rangers!

Jesus, it's no wonder players don't feel the need to perform every game when there are fans like you making excuses for them and not holding them to a standard!

19 Dec 2025 16:08:40
Jim. You are correct, these players are not good enough. Its the same excuses every year.

It starts in the summer when we hear that the manager done well elsewhere and they will be a very good manager.

Then every player we sign will be a star, can play various positions, played at a higher level and are the best in SPL and will make us a fortune.

Then the excuses start and its they need time to settle and they need time to learn a new system.

Then its wait until October then it will click.

Then its they don't become bad players over night.

Then its we created more big chances and claims improvement.

Then its guarentee's that our players will play in better leagues and have better careers.

Then its we don't lose money on any player.

Then its the fans fault for booing.

Then its the players aren't bad players because they can't play up here. They've played at higher levels.

Then its us that don't know what we are talking about.

Its the same script every season.

When its quite simple that the managers, recruitment teams and players are just not good enough.
