Does Watson get a game before Raskin or Barron,
08 Dec 2025 17:06:38
No, and also not before Cameron atm.
08 Dec 2025 17:11:54
For me, no.
We need to sign starters.
I suppose we could sign him on a free and loan him out.
08 Dec 2025 17:12:52
He wouldn't get a game before Raskin or Barron just now but he would be a great signing for us in January. Along with a quality RB and CB I would be happy ?.
08 Dec 2025 17:13:41
I would not sign Watson as I think he is too similar to Cameron and I think Cameron is slightly better. Not much in it tbh but it would be one or the other for me.
Barron is first name on my teamsheet right now. He is really developing into an excellent Rangers player. Only thing missing is goals but his overall play has been excellent in last few games.
I know most fans recognise his work rate and mobility but I thought his first touch was next level in the Killie game.
Short answer, no chance ahead of Barron and I think it's similar with Raskin even though he has been having a very average season.
08 Dec 2025 17:21:31
In my opinion No John I would also play Diomande and Cameron before him.
08 Dec 2025 17:30:56
Maybe not right now, but he is a good young Scottish player and would be signing him if possible.
08 Dec 2025 17:33:49
So what's the point in signing Watson if he does not get a game. We need to spend on other positions imo.
08 Dec 2025 17:41:06
We need a handful of capable cm's, Raskin or Barron or Diomande could get sold soon.
08 Dec 2025 17:48:50
I'm not talking about signing him in January either, pre contract in January.
08 Dec 2025 17:54:28
Raskin Barron Cameron and Watson sounds like a good 4 to me. Sell Dio and Rothwell. Raskin also probably won't be here for long either so maybe worth getting Watson in and around the team now. Thought u rated him highly before John unless I've picked u up wrong.
08 Dec 2025 17:55:14
Why would Watson sign if he struggles for game time, or is he a replacement for Barron who may go abroad.
For me I'd go with Milne, mb both Milne
Tod
We have Cameron Barron Souttar who I think wants away, we only need 4 for Europe, 5 we need to drop one.
08 Dec 2025 18:03:39
Watson is a really good player. He would replace Dio for me who is rank rotten ?.
08 Dec 2025 18:26:50
John, So we'll only have 3 cm's, because they rest won't be starting games then, maybe challenge and soon be a starter, looks like Souttar had been offered another contract.
08 Dec 2025 18:32:30
Florida I know fans don't rate Dio but he is an Ivory Coast international (5th best ranked African team) (38th in FIFA rankings) and will most likely be at the World Cup. so he is ranked by the managers of the teams he can be picked for and if he (similar to Raskin) has a decent World Cup then we might sell him and he will no doubt make us a profit. so he would be sold as it fits our trading policy rather than being rank rotten (those players get releases for free at end of contract ?)
so replace a full international with a MF who plays for 10th team in SPL.
decent player but logic doesn't follow. just me possibly or like Devlin do we just covet players who down play for us but then when they join they become rank rotten ?.
08 Dec 2025 18:33:58
What if we are signing him because we expect Raskin to have a good World Cup, and plan to sell him for £10M+ before the start of next season. Then we'd have Barron, Cameron and Watson as a young-ish Scottish midfield core.
All 3 look like they'd run through a brick wall for their team. Can't be a bad start to our midfield and European squad numbers. Then we can spend real money on talent from elsewhere?
08 Dec 2025 18:44:05
They may run through a brick wall but where the goals or creativity in that 3.
08 Dec 2025 19:03:24
Barron would know he would need to improve, which he has, we need more than a few cm's.
08 Dec 2025 19:03:32
There isn't any ows.
08 Dec 2025 19:07:26
Don't think Watson would be a priority signing in January but on a pre contract or nominal fee he would be worth signing. We have almost nothing coming through the youth team at the moment and getting a young Scot with first team experience would be a good move. Developing guys like him, Barron, Cameron and Curtis starts to give us the homegrown core we need.
08 Dec 2025 19:09:21
Welcome back Angus. Great to see you posting. It's what he does for Rangers that matters to me. For me Dio ain't cut out for our league. Watson is the Scotland under 21 captain and I have been very impressed with his performances for Killie over the past 2 and a half years.
I only see him improving and adding more goals to his game. He would be a great capture IMO ?.
08 Dec 2025 19:25:44
I'd sign Watson in a heartbeat.
Think he strengthens our squad, gives us better options in the middle of the park and has the potential to develop in to a starter.
All in all, a low risk signing.
08 Dec 2025 19:48:41
Watsons heid is too big for his body a bit like Ben R the bbc weatherman.
Always a bit of a worry.
08 Dec 2025 19:52:13
In terms of having a reliable ready made replacement if we were planning on selling say Raskin after the World Cup it could make sense. I wouldn't view him as a priority January addition though as you rightly say he would struggle for games and other areas of the park need more immediate attention.
08 Dec 2025 20:06:42
We really need to look height off our team, small players can be excellent but not at defending set plays, that's how we need to mix and match, boy from Tromso 6-4. That helps.
Look at how we mark up with arrons Meghoma Raskin Barron Danilo Gassama Antman. That imo is why we lose so many goals at set plays.
08 Dec 2025 20:16:01
Agree with Florida on this one, he hasn't kicked on and became the player we hoped, thought at the end of last season it was the best that we saw from him but he has been really poor this season.
Not sure about the player model either we paid 4.5 million for him and currently I would be really surprised if we got more than that figure if he was sold.
08 Dec 2025 20:29:29
cheers FB. I don't think he adds nothing is the difference. not saying he is a worldbeater but our midfield is weaker without him imo. his persistence led to Miovski pinching the ball of his toes on Saturday and he recycled the ball out wide at the start of the second. he is left footed, can play defensive or more forward and is good at taking the ball in tight spaces and moving it on.
so you may not like him but to call him rank rotten isn't a fair reflection of his ability. and his value is around £8m at the moment so a good WC will see him make us a bit of cash if he does go.
not saying I don't like Watson but as an addition rather than a replacement.
08 Dec 2025 21:20:30
IMO Dio is too weak for our league and has been rank rotten Angus. We need much better if we are to win trophies as he isn't good enough. I will judge him on his trophies and winners medal ??.
08 Dec 2025 22:09:59
Watson has good potential and would enhance our squad, hopefully going on to be a starter.
Raskin and Dio have been poor this season, if we get a big bid for Raskin I would take it and us it to fund other purchases.
Rothwell has also contributed nothing, I thought he would be a good signing but hasn't happened.
08 Dec 2025 22:25:35
John good post.
I said this on Saturday night, our marking and set up at corners is concerning, Djiga and Fernandez were zonal and almost on top of Butland, with Aarons picking up their striker at 6ft plus.
08 Dec 2025 22:27:06
Valued at 8 million by who Angus.
08 Dec 2025 23:38:39
Just wait and see how much Diomande gets sold for then Rosevale, fine you can see it, but Diomande is easy our best technically gifted cm, maybe he doesn't show it as much in our league, he will have a very good career in a far better league.
09 Dec 2025 08:21:45
Yes I would sign him as inevitable we will sell Raskin at some point. Could be an all Scottish midfield, Barron, Cameron watson.
09 Dec 2025 10:21:34
I like Watson, he's got some obvious talent and is a nice player. I think having players from the league is a bonus, ignoring players who understand the style of football and can hit the ground running is a mistake we've made before when buying players.
However, CMs is a position we've got an abundance of players in. Barron is playing great and is one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment, Raskin might be slightly off it but class is permanent and we'd be silly to think a player heading to the WC with Belgium isn't Rangers quality because of a perceived lack of form.
Similar story with Dio altho he is a massively frustrating player to watch. We've lots of players who can play the 10 role of that 3 man midfield, is he better than them? Is he better than Cameron? What about Bailey Rice, he isn't getting a look in our CM albeit a more defensive player than Watson is. I think he could be a good addition, but what we don't need surely is some huge costly squad? Bringing him in has to be because we believe we can improve him as a player and make him challenge for the first team?
09 Dec 2025 11:33:28
I will hold you to that mystar, think you have amnesia with some of your predictions in the past like Yilmaz, Cifuentes and others who according to you were going to turn out big players for us….
09 Dec 2025 12:12:59
Yilmaz is playing regularly now for a side not many of our players get into right now Rosevale, Cerny is struggling for regular starts, mind the other day you were telling me the Celtic manager wouldn't play the only way his team can.
09 Dec 2025 15:19:50
my star you said they would turn out good players for us, irrelevant what they are doing with other clubs, that does not prove your point.
09 Dec 2025 15:21:46
Sorry misread your post mystar, of course you meant those players would turn out good for the next club they went to and not us, apologies you never made it clear when you said they would be a success with us.
09 Dec 2025 15:30:27
Kaiser yes I rate Watson but my point is if he can't get a game what's the point, imo he's competing with Barron and Raskin probably our two best players although I've watched him at rb and he is very good there.
