Does anyone know if Thelwell's son has been shown the door as well? @John.
24 Nov 2025 16:01:28
He has not, at this moment he is still an employee.
24 Nov 2025 16:02:29
Baxter not yet. Purdy needs to be next.
24 Nov 2025 16:14:28
No he hasn't.
24 Nov 2025 16:29:17
So far I've read that him and Purdy won't be sacked.
24 Nov 2025 16:31:49
100% John. Purdy and Thelwell Jr away and they need to look at the upcoming appointment of our head of academy in January.
Anyone with previous ties to Thelwell should be booted. Get Koppen back.
24 Nov 2025 16:32:38
It is interesting how many people want him gone. He only arrived last month and has had no part in the disastrous recruitment that took place with Purdy and Kevin Thelwell.
Is he to be sacked simply because of who his father is. Seems a bit of a witch hunt. Happy that Thelwwll senior and Stewart are away.
24 Nov 2025 16:37:46
Would we take Koppen back if Purdy goes?
24 Nov 2025 16:44:28
I think it will be a cause of get the New CEO in the door and then he will create a structure for what Director he needs and also what current staff need to go. Its a shame this was not done earlier as we missed out on a great man for one of the Roles in Davie Weir.
24 Nov 2025 16:58:08
I'd imagine there's quite a few sweating.
We need more sackings.
24 Nov 2025 17:28:09
Jfm, for me it's how the recruitment process was handled.
24 Nov 2025 17:29:08
Bro I would Weir not have needed to want the job.
24 Nov 2025 17:48:04
We spend more money and negative energy on back room staff and directors etc at our club, shocking!
Would hate to know how much money all this restructuring costs us each year! Payoffs and severance fees.
Should be more money spent on the squad than the suits! Worlds upside down!
24 Nov 2025 17:59:04
Mark why more sacking we need to get the right people in the building then stability or we're done for. Got to say I think there's more to this than meets the eye.
24 Nov 2025 18:08:38
Nils koppen would be offers to be a part of the new k set up if it was upto me. Is ask him his ideal position and title and give him that. Let him run the football dept.
24 Nov 2025 18:09:22
Yes from me Bee82 but can't see him stepping back to help us out.
24 Nov 2025 18:10:38
Koppen has started a new job in the last few weeks. can't remember who, a Swedish team maybe? Something like that. So unlikely he'll be returning. Davie Weir?
24 Nov 2025 18:23:17
Good move from Daddy Thelwell bringing in his son
2 pay offs for the family inheritance!
?.
24 Nov 2025 18:38:17
Bee - would Koppen want to come back?
Anyway, he's just joined Copenhagen.
Thought the guy did a v. good job in difficult circumstances.
24 Nov 2025 18:40:19
Does anyone really think he got the job fairly.
24 Nov 2025 18:51:03
From what i got in the Cavenagh interview, everyone has the chance to prove their worth in their jobs so, that tells me that neither Thelwell jr or Purdy will be sacked unless they do something that would merit them getting sacked.
24 Nov 2025 19:20:33
We shouldn't assume everyone appointed by Thelwell is useless just because he appointed them. They will all stay until the new guys takeover and then what will be will be. The new Head of the Academy hasn't started yet and can't be blamed for anything except wanting to work for Rangers and even Thelwells boy had nothing to do with the disastrous recruitment.
To be honest even Thelwell and Purdy can only be partly blamed as a lot of the players were wanted by our manager at the time.
Glad they are both gone but no need for a night of the long knives just yet.
24 Nov 2025 19:48:59
The last thing we need is more upheaval just as DR getting results.
24 Nov 2025 19:59:48
Mac it was Purdy who brought Chermiti to Rangers, Thelwell then signed off on it.
24 Nov 2025 20:09:54
Wsl my issue is there was no shortlist for many posts unless u can name anyone who was interviewed.
24 Nov 2025 20:35:25
Wls look at the state of Thelwell jrs summer business at Norwich before he left. There's no way him and purdy are going to be leading recruitment in January if they have sacked Thelwell.
24 Nov 2025 20:47:39
That's a sackable offence right there and then John.
24 Nov 2025 21:50:57
Well it won't be koppen then.
And what people are saying here then is … Stewart and Thelwell were saying right we need this job filled and giving it to someone without doing interviews etc?
While I'm against those 2 I can't say I'm against that type of way of working.
If u give someone the job, ie Stewart ie Thelwell then they are entitled to run it the way they choose.
If they think giving the job to someone they know and feel will help good at it then Thata uo to then.
The problem lies with giving them the job, the reins and the keys in the first place.
If u want someone to run it via interview panels and so on then pick someone that will work that way.
24 Nov 2025 21:51:17
I don't think there's any basis to terminate Thelwell junior's contract at present, would possibly be opening ourselves up to unfair dismissal?
Would imagine there will be certain metrics/targets that Stewart and Thelwell have fallen demonstrably short of so there is justification to sack them?
24 Nov 2025 21:55:17
Dado, there gone, it's not fault of people employed imo.
24 Nov 2025 22:14:49
John 2575, I can't as I don't pretend that I'm in the know, I'm just a fan looking in from the outside like most. I can comment on players because I can see what they do in front of my own eyes but not staff. We don't just bin every player that were signed by a manager that we sack. Raskin was signed by Beale who has only just been beaten out of the two worst managers we've ever had by Martin. I've worked for a good few bad bosses but they occasionally hire good people so everybody deserves to be judged on their merits.
As for Thelwells boy, he wasn't in charge of recruitment at Norwich so he may not be qualified for the job he has with us now but its certainly not because of that. Personally I have no idea what the recruitment process was in the summer and whose idea it was to sign who. I have heard that most signings were at Martins request so others may have been guilty of making these moves happen. Not saying some shouldn't be binned but just that we shouldn't assume everybody brought in is useless. Currently its guilt by association.
24 Nov 2025 22:31:08
Will, Thelwell jnr is just in the door. We can get rid easily if we want to.
25 Nov 2025 01:04:15
Id assume unfair dismissal would be non existent due to the payoff they'd get?
25 Nov 2025 05:11:57
We had plenty time to go back in for Koppen, he was available for months after we stupidly released him,
Stewart and Thelwell should have been sacked earlier, Koppens joined Danish Champions League club FC Copenhagen now as head of 1st team scouting and recruitment, given his track record of spotting and signing quality young raw talents that sell for good money, he is an excellent appointment for an ammbitious club like FC Copenhagen, who will benefit greatly from his recruitment and scouting knowledge and contacts, without spending too much for new young players, could have been us but we shut that down just as his signings were increasing in talent and value and will never know how much he would have benefited us given a few more years, just look at how average PSV were when he joined, now they are top quality side as Koppen was given time there as he was with Genk.
Good luck to Nils he deserves a club that both want him and believe in his abilities to bring in quality talent and build a skillful side while scooping big money from his reccomendations, he is one of top talent scouts in Europe for a reason, he is very good at his job.
25 Nov 2025 05:37:24
I think Seeker under employment law that his contract can be terminated without reason within the first 3 months but notice period would need to be given. Maybe he's working that notice.
I think he's getting it tight because of his father but I don't belive he's qualified to do the job he was given.
Horrible position to be in.
25 Nov 2025 13:56:01
Jfm09… you know the old saying about the apple eh.
25 Nov 2025 14:22:27
Yes I believe that's correct jfm ?.
25 Nov 2025 17:00:00
Camoo I'd say Unfair appointment (Nepotism) in the recruitment of Thewell Jnr by Purdy, his dad's mate. You're not trying to tell me there's not better and more experienced options out there than the inexperienced 27 years old old son of the Director of Football? Have a look at his summer recruitment at Norwich.
It's as bad if not worse than his dads, as is Norwich's league position.
