Can one of the referee experts explain how an own goal is disallowed for offside?
23 Nov 2025 10:31:23
According to the pundit on sky whilst watching the game he was interferring with play and might of contributed to Scales mistake when he walloped it into the net. Up for debate but ref decision. They done everything to help Cletic win, disallowed goal and their goal beyond time, both ref desions that ensured 3 points for Celtic - again up for debate.
What do we all think. Good 3 points for them or conspirecy?

I've just watched it John. It seems to be because he made a movement towards the ball and therefore Scales reacted resulting in the goal. Looks more than dubious. If that goes out for a corner does the corner get awarded and played, I think it does but because it goes into net it's offside.
I think Scales does what he did regardless of st mirren players movement as he can't let it drop past him into middle of box. Bizarrely all the pundits appear to be in agreement with the decision.

It was disallowed because the offside player then became active in the second phase because he challenged for the ball with the defender who scored the own goal, it was very very soft to disallow that but knew it would happen.
It was disallowed for the second part and not the offside.
23 Nov 2025 10:52:38
We're both as bad as each other with conspiracy talk.
23 Nov 2025 10:59:31
I don't agree with it but can see why it's offside.
I personally don't think the St Mirren player affects Scales decision making forcing him to clear it into the net. But no-one can know that for sure.
Scales might have seen him and thought, 'oh no, I better clear it!' ?.

Watched the end and the goal I'm sure was scored in the last minute of injury time, it was 0-0 written all over it until that great strike, nothing you can do about that, frustrating thing for us is we never seem to score late goals in games like that.
23 Nov 2025 11:11:02
It's not hard to be fair he moved towards the ball and whether scales seen him or not he is interfering with play.
TJBB the goal was scored 7 secs after the minimum about of time to be added on. It's not a conspiracy. There was a sub made in that added on time so that's at least 30 secs.
It's always been that will be the minimum added on so I don't know why fans bring this up
TJBB it could be that in your words champions find away to win when not playing there best.

We don't half clutch at straws at times.
23 Nov 2025 11:55:13
There is certainly no conspiracy, just incompetence.
23 Nov 2025 12:35:27
Rosedale, we don't score late winners like that, because we don't seem to have anyone who can shoot !
23 Nov 2025 12:39:48
All valid points folks and thanks for coming round to my way of thinking Storm.
23 Nov 2025 13:01:06
John, Celtic had a goal disallowed in cup semi due to offside, The ball came off Raskin and was an OG but not given! Exactly same scenario.
23 Nov 2025 13:11:23
There's no way scales plays the ball because he sees the St Mirren player as he comes from his blind side, as scales turns his body he is always behind him, wouldn't have seen him till the very last second basically when his feet is touching the ball. Having said that the player does make movement towards the ball, so therefore he's offside, that's the rules.
23 Nov 2025 13:52:12
I have seen this countless times in the EPL and the goal is almost always given as the forward had no impact on the ball, The defender having to clear it because he is there is not a reason to give offside, No conspiracy theory from me, it just highlights incompetence, backing up what our club has been saying about the standard of refereeing in this country.
I should also say I thought that the ref would have given Livvy a penalty yesterday as it was a goal bound shot that clearly hits Fernandez on the hand. I am interested to hear why Beaton in the VAR didn't call him to the screen.
23 Nov 2025 14:02:07
John is not incompetence, it's 100% the correct decision.
23 Nov 2025 14:02:31
Wsl Beaton said it deflected off his thigh but it didn't.
23 Nov 2025 15:02:44
You haven't Stevie as it's offside plain and simple.
23 Nov 2025 17:24:41
Laudrup no it's not Maeda free kick to a player who crossed, that was th offside
Storm I'm answering tjbb question, is it a good three points or a conspiracy, imo there is certainly no conspiracy in our game. For me its incompetence,
23 Nov 2025 19:31:09
John the st. mirren player was offside and does interfere with the phase of play.
23 Nov 2025 19:32:04
Agree with storm on both theirs and our decisions.
23 Nov 2025 22:50:42
Gotcha John everyone answering everyone else ??.
