A new day so don't mind if I start a new thread about something u said last night EHL. U still don't think any hearts player other than Baningame makes our current XI. And few even make our current squad? This came from before this weekend too. I find this interesting as I think most Rangers fans wouldn't chose many of our own players in our XI either.
Before Saturday none of our Strikers were scoring unlike the hearts forwards and our midfield /wingers are said not to create enough chances, while our defence has been a shambles for a while now whereas hearts have looked pretty solid most of the time.
U must really rate McInnes highly then. Not suggesting we target their players as I hope we sign better but just a comparison between the current squads I'd have more than 3or4 ahead of some of ours.
08 Dec 2025 08:19:52
Kaiser the difference is ability against current form. so yes Hearts players may be playing better than us at the moment but our squad has more ability, technique etc. if we can get them to have the same level of confidence and coaching then we will see that come to the fore.
as fans we are always so concerned about the here and now, which is important but we also need to be looking at how we are set as a club in years to come, which is more important imo.
08 Dec 2025 08:30:28
From going on what i have seen this season so far i think 3/4 Hearts players start for us. Its all about opinions though. Everyone's entitled to their own.
08 Dec 2025 07:45:57
Milne Bannigimie braga katsoridos apologies for misspelling and Shankland improve not only our squad but our first team.
08 Dec 2025 08:51:51
I'd take their whole defence (for starters) see how many threw themselves at Tierney in the last minute, can't see ANY of ours doing that tbh.
08 Dec 2025 09:17:31
Angus this was more a follow on from a previous conversation about a combined squad comparison rather than a view on the future. Similar with what is often done with Celtic. With a good January I expect us to overtake eventually. McInnes must be some manager if his squad is worse off in just about every position.
And our recruitment can't have been that bad if they are all better than the league leaders. Would be perhaps interesting to hear a Hearts fans point of view of which Rangers players they would take in place of theirs. Make for a good discussion I reckon.

Brilliant from a Jambo on Talksport this morning. If he found Devlin in bed wi his missus he'd tuck him in. Nearly choked. Hilarious. ???.
08 Dec 2025 10:32:12
Kaiser. it is that they have players all on form at the moment and ours weren't/arent due to the Martin debacle. as an example would you have Raskin or Devlin in your team. Yes Devlin is playing well at the moment but most would agree Raskin is the better player.
so given the saying that form is temporary but ability/class is permanent I think is the view on who you would want in your team.
so in comparison down south would you say the Everton or Sunderland teams players are better ability wise than the Liverpool team or are they just showing better form at the moment.
08 Dec 2025 10:41:23
Braga, the Greek boy, Shankland, Milne, Halket, Baningame and Devlin all improve our team and are better than what we have. That's why we are struggling in 4th place?♂️.
08 Dec 2025 10:46:30
Hearts defence performing well Rangers not so I ask people to check goals scored against there isn't much in it at all.
08 Dec 2025 10:47:20
Hearts have 13 against and we have 13 against.
08 Dec 2025 10:50:44
I don't know if they all get in the staring 11 Oliver but would definitely take all of them would like Milne and braga the most.
08 Dec 2025 11:18:19
OK Angus u pick arguably our biggest sellable asset for comparison. Point was that was said practically none would even make our squad. Not that we don't have some better players. Liverpool also have a team full of champions so can judge on what they've done before, and they also sign players from teams from their league so view them as comparable.
Same can be done with looking at Hearts squad. Their defence can certainly compare not just on form with ours esp Djiga and Aarons. Quite a few others would be upgrades on our squad players if not starters like Rothwell, Dowell, Matondo, maybe even Danilo, Chermiti, Aasgaard and Antman.
08 Dec 2025 11:27:32
Angus your comparison between Liverpool, Sunderland and Everton has no bearing on Hearts and us but I do see the point you are trying to make but unfortunately it doesn't exist. Hearts do have some better players than us that would walk into our team and improve us.
Our summer recruitment wasn't good enough. Milne is better than Meghoma, Shankland is better than Chermiti and Danilo, Braga and the Greek boy are better than Antman and Gassama. Just a few examples.
08 Dec 2025 11:28:44
Angus, hold on to your hat - I agree!
Hearts players are definitely in better form, but also beyond that they are asked to play on a way that plays to their strengths - which is why I do really rate McInnes.
Halcket being the perfect example. He's levels below Souttar in pretty much every aspect of his game.
However the way Hearts set up are designed not only to play to his strengths, but also to protect his weaknesses.
I know this got a reaction the last time, but Braga is not a patch on Antman. Both Moore and Gassama are better than Kyzi and Miovski is better than Shankland.
I would take Braga and Shankland in the squad though.
08 Dec 2025 11:56:49
Different ball game comparing Hearts to us, the pressures at our club are far greater, Hearts aren't expected to win any prizes and great if they do, we demand success and that brings more pressure onto players and especially young players if they are struggling with their form already.
Niko Raskin has got more ability than Cammy Devlin but he has to show it, Russell Martin is gone now and some of the players brought in are still not performing or Rohl isn't playing them so feel we have to move on from that.
08 Dec 2025 12:38:44
Rangers won't be struggling fir forth.
08 Dec 2025 11:30:11
ive said for many years Derek McInnes is a very very good manager, i knew him when he was playing at Rangers under sounness and he was Rangers mad, you don't just lose that, he was involved in a few fans clubs and things.
he had a fantastic career at WBA and has indeed done what souness said he would do; become a very good manager.
08 Dec 2025 12:51:42
Braga, Shankland and Devlin would improve our starting 11.
08 Dec 2025 12:59:02
Milne shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Meghoma, one will have a very good career, than other one has about done all he will achieve in the game.
08 Dec 2025 13:21:18
Walter Smith signed McInnes in the 90's 1995/2000.
08 Dec 2025 13:22:46
Thanks for the response guys. Certainly an interesting debate. Getting into our starting XI would be a hard debate depending on form Angus and EHL but when naming a combined squad would certainly name more than 3 or 4 like those suggested. Baningame Braga Shankland and Devlin Kyziwatsiname would make the squad Milne is possibly the best full back in the country at the moment.
Halkett or Findlay would be upgrade on Djiga (tbh I'd probably be an upgrade on him and I'm an overweight 46yr old former goalie who never played at any level above playing 7s with my mates). Good debate tho.
08 Dec 2025 13:23:15
EHL out may surprise you as well but I am in agreement with what you say quite a bit as well ?. I agree that a couple may improve our squad but if all are playing to the best of their ability (as Hearts are at the moment) then I don't see any making our first team. I think the key words are 'at the moment'.
McInnes had all pre-season to coach the players on a style; Rohl has had at most 1 day between games.
add to that our squad being weak in certain areas and him not having the ideal player for the way he may want to play and we are under-performing. that will improve with time and has already. the question is can Hearts maintain theirs.
08 Dec 2025 13:31:54
Kaiser their defence has let in as many goals as ours and that is with Djiga, Aarons in it and add also Tav and Meghome. does that make them ideal candidates to improve our defence; possibly at attacking corners as the 2 CBs have scored 6 between them.
I chose Raskin as it highlighted the difference in ability so clearly. But you can pretty much pick any position on Transfermarkt and compare the two (havent doe it granted) and it would read the same.
they use ability (amongst other criteria) but not form as that can be short-lived; Liverpool perfect example of that (first 5 or so games were going to walk the league if I remember).
I watched their game yesterday and whilst they won I still think Celtic were better but couldn't convert their chances and Hearts were efficient in scoring theirs and against 'the worst Celtic team'. I did like the workrate they had but expect that from us as well in future.
08 Dec 2025 14:45:19
Our defence thankfully has improved in recent weeks because Rohl has had to adapt our tactics to 5 at the back and cms at times to try and cover up for them possibly at a cost to our attacking. The discussion was based on a combined SQUAD not our star players.
Obviously Raskin is way ahead of any of theirs. If u don't think any of theirs would make our 25 man squad not just the top end that's fine. It's all about opinions and a good debate. ?.
08 Dec 2025 14:50:05
Mystar, Meghoma is our only LB so why can't we suggest Milne when discussing potential upgrades for a combined squad? Milne can also play RB so perhaps comparison with Aarons and Tav too.
08 Dec 2025 15:53:47
We need a experienced lb signed in January Kasier, you think Milne is good enough? only asking as I've not seen much of him, few weeks ago I asked EHL about him and he said levels down from Souttar.
08 Dec 2025 15:56:33
bar, worth noting not one of them actually got in the way of that shot
4 of them.
08 Dec 2025 16:03:33
you are correct bro, i meant walter smith.
08 Dec 2025 15:54:34
We should be trying to get Meghoma signed if possible.
08 Dec 2025 16:51:21
Kaiser come on now I expect a little better from you ?. check the line ups and we have played 4 at the back in the league since Dundee; he only played 3 at back for first 2 games (Hibs and Kilmarnock in October).
we have also scored 14 since Rohl arrived in comparison to 8 before he arrived so at the expense of our attack isn't correct either.
however we are discussing at cross purposes. you are asking how many get in our team on current form but I am arguing (as I think EHL is) that there aren't any Hearts players who are better players on ability than ours. Form will come and we can see the start of that recently.
08 Dec 2025 17:06:02
Mystar I wouldn't actually go for many of them. I hope we go for better. It was originally just about making a combined squad from the 2 teams for debate but that seems to have got lost ?.
08 Dec 2025 17:13:44
EHL, maybe in training, where there isn't any pressure. But the players at Rangers atm struggle to cope with the expectation of the club and fans. They seem to be great until they get near the 18yrd box then they fold constantly.
Constantly making the wrong decisions or poor execution and giving up possession far too easily. They are talented players but not mentally tough enough imo,
08 Dec 2025 18:12:21
Angus again I never mentioned current form or ability. Was simply pick a combined squad from the 2 teams and was surprised when EHL given he's at hearts said only 3-4 would even make squad let alone 1st XI. And we switched to a back 3 again as recently as Saturday as we have in other games.
08 Dec 2025 19:30:43
Zikos, and there lies the conundrum.
Drop the Hearts players in to that environment and how many perform at the same level under the expectations, pressure and circumstances at our club?
