I'm pointed it out in his first season he had 9 individual mistakes that cost us games from balls in the air and I believe that number has nearly tripled he's good on the ball and in the tackle but one of the worst airial centre half's I've ever seen.

We need home grown players in the squad for Europe, and more generally I think it's important we have a good number of Scots in and around the team. I don't know what he's on now, and how much more we'd give him, but either way he should be a squad player rather than a first pick.
We need better if we're going to compete for titles again.

so we need a core of Scottish players in our team but don't want to keep our Scottish players. so where is this core coming from as there aren't a lot of quality Scottish players playing in the SPL. name a better Scottish Centre half we can afford; actually no just name one is hard enough.
players will only, I feel, be good enough if we win titles but that isn't the pre-requisite to being good as there are lots of good players out there who will never win one. until recently Harry Kane was a name on that list.

Absolutely delighted Souttar has been offered a new deal. I've followed his career since he made his debut for Dundee Utd. A terrific defender for the level he's currently playing at (I accept he has the odd brain fart moment). Souttar does the basics really well. He wins the majority of his headers, loves to throw his body on the line and block shots, reads the game really well. Very good passer of the ball. Actually, watch his short passes (EHL might agree due to being a coach). Every 5-10 yard pass Souttar makes is always in front of the player. Exactly how a ball should be passed when the other player is in space. A lot of people pass the ball behind the player which causes a break in momentum.
To have 4 defenders and Souttar being one of them (also Scottish ✅). I hope he signs, I'll be delighted.

With better players around him and played in a role that suits his game I'm confident Souttar can be part of a successful team.
I will say again, Celtic have won multiple trophies and titles using Scales in the exact same manner.

Angus "players will only be good enough if we win titles". Surely that's the other way round? We only win titles if players are good enough. Souttar is among those who has consistently shown he's not.
And is part of the poor leadership group. If we need to keep him for sake of homegrown rule then fine but we need far better than him if we want to win again. He must be a back up at best.

Angus glad to see you're back but trying to use the Kane comparison is laughable as he was playing in one of the toughest leagues in the world for a team that generally was maybe top 6 and Kane more than did his part to try and drag them to winning things for a club he loves. Can you say the same for this group of players?
Souttar staying as back up and only back up would be fine for me as long as he is on reduced terms and used only when needed. He isn't good enough to be a starter for us.

John, so you are comparing young Milne who has had 22 starts for Aberdeen and 60 minutes in 3 U21 games with Souttar a full international who has played at the top level for over 300 games.
that is patently ridiculous. so my question still is who is currently better that we can replace him with now who is Scottish. it isn't currently jack Milne. I would sign him but not to directly replace Souttar in every game. oh and until a few seasons ago Harry Kane was the archetypal serial failure never winning a trophy at Spurs.
in fact they only won the trophy when he left (ironic really). the point though was that there are a number of talented footballers who have never won a league trophy in spite of their obvious talent; lots of other factors are relevant. In Kane's case I would suggest stronger, richer clubs in EPL at the same time as he played here. sort of similar to the stronger Celtic team since we won 55.

Angus saying John is being ridiculous and then using Harry Kane as an example is even more ridiculous. It nothing about how many trophies. It's use your eyes. Kane was the best player at his club, still a world class player regardless of trophies and breaking records both at club and international level, Souttar is a bang average CB who has been major part of a poor defence for years and has let us down time and again.
Granted there may not be many other Scottish CBs so don't sign one. We can have Scots in other positions If needed.

Genuinely hope Souttar stays. Martin's tactics absolutely ruined the confidence of the defence this season Telling them to keep a hold of the ball for as long as possible is madness. On his day Souttar is the best defender in the country and people really need to watch what wish for sometimes.

Remember, when he missed a grand total of no games due to it, was back on time for preseason, represented his country and secured a starting spot in the national side that was apparently never going to qualify for the world cup anyway.

Also Kane was slagged of only by rival fans who were looking for a reason to have a dig. Like him or not (I personally don't) His own fans at both club and country adored him because season after season he consistently performed wonders breaking record and was by far their star player.

Kaiser I am not questioning Kane's ability though. I am arguing against the point that any player at a team who hasn't won a trophy is a serial loser. surely Kane is the perfect example of that not being the case.
so we may not win trophies but during that time we have had good players (not as good as Kane granted before someone takes offence). there are other reasons why we don't win obviously.
yes we don't have to have any Scottish players but fans somehow seem to think we need that Scottish core so surely having a CB who will be going to the World Cup with his country is sensible. my opinion is that to claim he is worse than a 22 yo with 20 games under his belt isn't correct (at this time). Jack is a decent level headed young lad (I know his family) but even he would be surprised by that claim.

It's a no brainer to offer Souttar a new deal. As far as we're all led to believe, there was nearly one signed under Clement and the club paused talks due to the takeover etc so it makes sense it's now. If you are going to move for Jack Milne as well, makes sense.
Gives us the opportunity to go sign 2 really outstanding centre halves for decent cash to complement the others. Nsiala has shown 0 for me and should leave. Fernandes looks okay but need 2 really exceptional defenders.

Simple as that. Souttar was 3rd choice when we had Goldson and Balogun, them leaving and not being properly replaced didn't suddenly make Souttar a better player. Seems there is a mixed reception to this, for me its a no brainer, he has been a stalwart for us. I don't think anyone could argue we are better with him in the starting 11, he bring experience, he knows the league, he knows the club, he will be soon going to a WC.
We have to learn from the experience of letting players go just because we think the grass might be greener. Having some of the younger lads next to him for a few seasons is a good thing and something that will serve the club well.

The dictionary definition being "an individual or team that consistently fails to achieve success, particularly in repeated attempts, such as losing in finals or failing in various endeavours despite effort or talent". so there are other reasons for which teams/players can lose despite effort and talent. Harry Kane was my attempt to show that as no-one could deny his undoubted talent and the effort he put in whilst at Spurs.

Neither is his brother.
I'd take 1 bassey over both of them.
Young Calvin was pure class and near impossible to beat 1 on 1,
back pocketed both Nkunku and Bellingham, during his no1 defender in the Europa competition run while with us, with much ease.
Easily our best CB in the last 13 yrs, since our demotion in 2012.
