Anyone who still thinks Lawrence Shankland wouldnt do a great job at Rangers needs to look no further than his performances against Celtic. He ran them ragged and his array of passing is fantastic. He would do much more than just score great goals for Rangers, IMO.
It would be a terrible shame that a true bluenose and diehard Rangers man with his ability and willingness to play at Ibrox may never make his dream a reality. I'm sure Hearts are delighted to still have him, imo he would have made an incredible difference to our chances.
Because Rangers have ignored Scottish football talent or Scottish based talent ,we haven't come close to winning the Scottish football league title, it's about balance, getting winners in, strong guys who hate losing.
Players like Shankland who are Rangers fans are always a bonus and great for the dressing room, as well as some foreign talent too.
How anyone can argue that signing the top scoring striker in their country who happens to support your club and is desperate to play for us is bad for Rangers is a mystery.
I put it down to personal dislike of him rather than not wanting a Rangers supporter who scores loads of goals and who is steeped in Rangers tradition, He was also called "not good enough" a short while ago.

At the very least he'd make a great back up even if we had a better leading Striker. Massive shame we never took him on a free and spent £8m on Chermiti instead. Have a feeling tho his chances will have passed.

I agree we should have signed Shankland, however I disagree that he ran Celtic ragged yesterday.
I actually thought it was one of his worst games of the season.
08 Dec 2025 13:42:05
Josh Mulligan as well. Surely getting these two guys for free was a no-brainer.
08 Dec 2025 14:16:55
Of course we should have signed Shankland on a free it's a huge mistake on previous regimes. What would he have been on 7k a week?. We are still paying Matondo 28k a week ?.
08 Dec 2025 14:22:31
For the umpteenth time Mulligan wanted it Martin knocked him back, comms said Shankland wasn't really involved, agree with EHL he never ran them ragged. All about opinions however bizarre.
08 Dec 2025 14:44:57
Yes should have had Shankland.
08 Dec 2025 15:01:50
I don't agree EHL, and thought Shankland was excellent yesterday ✌️✌️.
08 Dec 2025 15:06:32
I said it when Shankland was at Ayr United we should have signed him then, we should still sign him now.
08 Dec 2025 15:10:10
Should have been signed in the summer.
Dessers and Shankland would have done well.
08 Dec 2025 15:19:30
Not signing Josh Mulligan was a monumental cock up the boy is going to be a top player.
08 Dec 2025 15:32:41
Personal dislike is nonsense. Based on last year form, no I wouldn't have signed him. Like I wouldn't have signed Miovski based on 2 years ago or Chermiti for millions.
It would be based on the facts and the relevant data at that time. If your Scottish or a Rangers fan may make you work harder but it does not make you a good player.
We need players who have skill and technically good,, a desire to win, works hard, athletic. A good mind set. If they are Scottish good but not essential.
Our scouting and lack of has been poor. There is a big world to find players. It's just that we are not the best at present at doing it. Barron is good but it's down to his work ethic, mentality not his postcode.
08 Dec 2025 15:33:09
Why do people continually go on about players we never went for? We didn't go for him, no point whining now. There's a few we probably should have went for, no guarantee they would come to us though, history now.
08 Dec 2025 15:43:16
Dereliction of duty from our previous Head Coach and Director of Football. It's astounding to think these guys were trusted to take us forward.
08 Dec 2025 15:47:11
Shankland would have been a great addition. Free transfer as well. Strange it was never done.
08 Dec 2025 16:40:45
tbh I didn't realise that Maswanhise was a Rangers fan ?. (12 goals vs Shankland's 11?). only 24 as well so possibly has more longevity.
how many of our last managers and recruitment teams have decided not to try to sign him. that is a lot of football people who haven't fancied him imo.
scored 9 last season in total, which might be why we didn't go for him and Dessers matched him in each of the 2 seasons he was here and fans didn't like him.
08 Dec 2025 17:09:04
Tom we should have signed him 3 yrs ago. Not now I'm afraid.
08 Dec 2025 17:25:35
All fair points Angus??.
08 Dec 2025 17:35:36
Angus he's used mostly on the right wing, man i know that follows Motherwell speaks highly about him.
08 Dec 2025 18:05:12
We need better than Shankland.
Just like we needed better than Dessers.
Shankland is being held in high regard by some as the saviour of Rangers because of the performances of Danilo, Miovski and Chermiti.
Just like Tav is being lauded by some for a 2 year deal because his competition for RB has either been injured or poor.
And Shankland would supposedly make a huge difference against the teams we struggle against - well Hearts dropped points in 2 out of 3 of their last games and Shankland failed to score.
And that's playing in a side where 50% of them would apparently walk int9 the Rangers team.
And why would we sign a player who spent last season overweight and downed tools and was actually kept out of the Hearts team by a 17 year old?
08 Dec 2025 18:32:04
Good post MPH, accurate and fair assessment by yourself and Angus imo?.
08 Dec 2025 19:18:46
There were only a couple of Scots in Gerrards title winning team and Advocaats title winning team. Its not enough talent that has stopped us winning titles not, not enough Scots.
The time that signing Shankland might have won us the title was in Clements first window when we were right up there challenging but he would have cost us money that we couldn't afford at that time,
08 Dec 2025 21:42:20
Aw the Shankland post again ? he never scored yesterday either ?.
08 Dec 2025 22:08:23
Getting as tiresome as the Tav posts.
09 Dec 2025 00:13:23
Tom you are spot on, with your post about Shankland. I remember last year Koppen had went public on his future signing policy for this season and beyond. His policy was to sign as many good Scottish player's, supplemented with strong, robust player's from overseas who had physicality to play in SPL. These policies mage great sense to me.
