I think the big issue has been the fact Thelwell has appeared to pay huge money for project players.
No one would have cared if Chermiti and Aasgaard were brought in for around £1 million combined.
It is not the players fault there price was astronomical.
I do think that we will see an end to obscene transfer fees being paid.
Stig will definitely be a good help in getting players who are value for money.

I think this move for Stig, is a positive move going forward.

Aphe, I'm looking at this guy coming in as a probability we're going to be shopping in Scandinavia in January mate
I'd say the value for money from Scandinavia and as we all agree nowadays Eastern Europe.
I'd imagain maybe a younger centre back from Scandinavia being bought and maybe an older experienced pro from Germany on loan.
Also we've a great history with Scandinavian players, I believe was it late 70s we had a winger from Sweden maybe? Long before my time but sure I've heard the story many times.

Kai johansen was the one I'm talking about but I see our first ever Scandinavian as signed in 1921, Karl Hansen and known by the name of the great little Dane ??.

Robert Prytz, stevie. He did some coaching with us when i was at school 20 odd year ago. I remember him doing keepy ups with his shins only 15 ft in the air over and over.

Excuse the spelling, Orjan Persson.

Stevie G
Like Aasgaard? Jury well out.

Think using Aasgaard as an example is a bit of a stretch Millerbrand. He may well play for Norway, but not sure he'd ever really stepped foot in Norway prior to his call up. Played in England all his career and as Scouse as they come.

Stevie Kai Johanson was a right back and scored winner in Cup Final replay. Morton and Dundee United were teams to bring over Scandinavian players in 70's and we signed a few from both.
Think problem now is that German teams have cornered market in Scandinavia but hopefully we can unearth some gems.
18 Dec 2025 09:20:53
For you younger posters Dundee United started the influx of Scandinavian players, we had Kai Johansen famous for his cup winning goal against Celtic we then signed big Orange from United.
18 Dec 2025 09:29:30
Very good point Gers78, he's a scouser with a Norwegian name.
18 Dec 2025 10:24:56
I would still care aphelion because it matters to me that the player is still good enough to make us top dog. Its only by the grace of god that Celtic are that poor that we are still in a race, although I do think Hearts are more of a threat than Celtic. Both players you mentioned are two of the worst I have seen at Ibrox in my 42 years.
Don't get me wrong I could add plenty more to that list but you get my point. I honestly have no idea how Aasgaard gets near that Norway team. I hope you're right about Stig and we find a few gems in January. Is he any good at getting rid of players because we quite a few to punt.
18 Dec 2025 10:48:54
As Gers78 says Thelo is a Norwegian through his parents but has never lived or worked in Norway.
He does not sound Norwegian nor was he raised solely Norwegian.
Thelo is English.
But we cannot rule out signing players because 1 has taken time to settle or not worked out.
Oliver Antman has taken time but will come good, that does not mean we should avoid the Baltic states.
The former Yugoslavian states are another area where we should concentrate on.
Add to that the likes of Slovenia/Greece and Hungary.
18 Dec 2025 11:56:12
Scandinavia is a very good market for potential signings, instead of Thelwell just looking at the english championship market in general ?I think bjornebye will broaden our horizons on recruiting players, the way it should be ?.
18 Dec 2025 12:38:28
Aasgaard and Chermiti i really don't rate at all. Maybe best to loan Chermiti due to age but sell Aasgaard. He is not offering anything imo.
18 Dec 2025 12:41:41
Some seriously short memories here, while Aasgaard may not have had the best of starts, to call him one of the worst players we have ever had is way wide of the mark.

Agreed DtB tho I think that's coming from the man with many names so I wouldn't worry about it.
