Jones isn't in the europa squad Ritchie1. Barker was selected in that instead of Jones but Barker not even travelling to Portugal. he's completely dropped from the squad so the likelihood is that Kent will start. Unless he gives Stewart a start but I can't see SG changing much for this game.

And I really can't accept to see that happen
As for me it will never be done again whether a few of them are hollow with us not being in league it's still 10

So a few answers try get me to see what he can do given another season with another pot of cash and what he can do to generate money from players who will need to be let go?

Stig. I'm in the SG must stay camp but have come close to joining you on that fence before common sense kicks in. We can't afford to sack SG. If we do and we need to pay off his coaching team as well there will be not one penny to spend for a new manager to rebuild. SG is learning. He needs our support and I think there is a good manager in him if we stick with him. There will be people stating that Rangers can't and should never have appointed a rookie manager. Fact is lads, we did! We need to get behind him.

Thestigno, in the summer I think we need to see some money spent on centre defence and depending on what happens with Barasic we might be looking for a first choice LB. I'd be happy to keep Davis like I said and for him to essentially mentor both Greg Docherty and young Steven Kelly when he comes back from Ayr. I know Mark Kerr the Ayr manager well and he thinks Kelly has a real chance of making a big impact at Rangers. Jones hasn't convinced me yet and there have been rumours about him having a bit of an attitude problem so i'm not sure he will ever get a chance mate although I don't have anything to substantiate those rumours of him having a bad attitude. Kai Kennedy should be integrated into the first team from now until the end of the season and he should play a part next season and save us money trying to replace Jones or Barker as squad players. He's impressed me every time I've seen him. If Alfredo goes for the money we want even if we sign Kamberi I would still like to see another striker signed. I don't have a clue who but I just think we have been a bit light in that position when injuries and suspensions hit us.

Oh and I forgot to mention what I think would be our best signing in the summer. As some will have seen in some of my previous posts I don't think our coaching team have enough experience in general and certainly not in the SPL. I would like to see an experienced coach with recent experience in Scotland signed to enhance and help our current coaches and manager.

How bout kamberi an Defoe up front on wed. Defoe's fit and wouldn't it be brilliant to see us attacking with a 6ft3 striker and a5ft2striker runnin about their defence. Hagi aribo jack and Davis midfield. going to be interesting, the set up. If it's a 4-3-3, I think Gerrard needs to have a serious look at himself and his staff. We'll get pumped. Forewarned team. The tactics need changed.

Yass22 you can't be serious with that comment. It more likely they think if they win all the games then the alien space ship circling the Earth will notice and fire lazers a them. They are just having a drop in from, simple as that, all teams have it, some get away with it some dont. To win the SPL we were always going to need an element of luck in terms of injuries and decisions due to the budget disparity between us and them. It just hasn't went for us but we were close.

Next season it will be closer unless Celtic get into the Champions league in which case their budget will further increase and lessen the chances for us. Best thing we can do is get as far in Europe as poss to get more cash and close that financial gap otherwise we will always be relying on an element of luck to make up the difference. The only way that we can avoid that is having a conveyor belt of home grown top youngsters ready for 1st team action but that doenst look likely at them moment maybe see 1 or 2 at some point but unless they are Messi quality it ain't going to make a blind bit of difference.

In another universe we won the league cup, Alf never got a red, Tav didn't burst his appendix, Jack was fit the whole season, Dafoe didn't tear his hamstring, Helander didn't have serious foot injury, Borna remained fit, Arfield didn't have close family bereavement our pitch remained like a snooker table all season.

Its not the time to give up, get behind the club and team even more, that's what separates us from the rest when it gets tough the Rangers I know roll their sleeves up for more pain or pleasure doesn't matter which.

Katic made 2 mistakes, we should get behind the young lad not throw him to the Lions. 11 players win and loose every game.

PS: i'm as gutted as everyone else BTY but I've said my piece and I will leave it there.

TJBB- well said I’ve been saying this for last few weeks finances are the main problem they simply have a stronger squad who have been through all this at the beginning but now they have a big squad through years of champions league money they have millions in the bank so to demand SG wins the league or silverware in two years or be sacked is crazy, that would cost millions with no guarantee that it would work I’d rather spend that money in the team, for me the most important guy at Ibrox this summer will be the chairman and if he can find the cash, as for young players coming through the system remember Greens mob sold every young player they could closed down the scouting system so since SG came in we have rebuilt that side of the club, we claim to be the best supporters in the world we’ll that is easy when your winning it’s now we have to show that, I see posts slagging Sg saying he is throwing players below busses god read posts on here supporters are throwing the team and management below busses, up until the end of December we were right in it we had a very good goal difference our defence was sound and our goals for was good then we lost players to injury suspension and lack of form then the points were dropped and confidence left the team yes Kent has been poor but he needs support not abuse same with Morelos Katic infact all players we are supposed to be supporters let’s show we are.

I haven't posted since yesterday and since then I've been reading all the comments about progression. Now, let's look at the facts and put this into perspective. So far five trophies have been up for grabs since our managers arrival. In relation to the leagues, we've been out of the running come January/ February both season's - so let's says that's half way through the season and we're out of contention. In relation to the cups, we've been in 1 final and out in 2 semi finals. Now, these are the facts which don't lie. Beating Celtic once or twice a season and a run in Europe doesn't make a Glasgow Rangers manager. Gerard needs to find a solution to this mess and fast but does he know how to? Playing the same players and tactics/ formation which has let us down since January and expecting a different result isn't the way.

the biggest problem we have is funds we are mikes behind Celtic there what is it over thirty million in bank we are dealing in loans, the squad we have is no where near strong enough to keep the challenge going, our first eleven when all fit and in form and confident can challenge as we did up to Celtic Park then we lost four or five players to injury suspension and loss of form then we saw that fringe players were just not good enough when we start dropping points it affects the whole team and that’s where we are now, we need to invest the Euro money in the team and hopefully a bit more can be found, but to just say to any future manager you get two years with less money than your main challenger to win the league is crazy
We need to accept we are still behind in terms of squad but certainly far better now than when SH came in and hopefully we Jeep moving in the right direction but it won’t be easy you can’t just demand success it costs vast sums of money.

I cannot believe some of you think Goldson is as bad as Katic. Yeah he's been poor at times, but he's generally been great for us and well worth the money. Let's get a sense of perspective here, as if he was a faultless defender we'd never have got him.

Katic on the other hand is just woeful. I've posted on here time and time again about him. He makes everyone around him nervous, especially Goldson. He's as committed a player as there is, but his positioning, passing and general ability are all terrible.

He wasn't the only one who played badly at the weekend, but he was by far the worst.

Regarding formation, I hope now SG can see that 2 up top at times is necessary. Or at least getting it up top quickly and not always trying to play through the defence. There is equal merit in scoring from a punt up the park, winning a knock down and scoring a crappy goal. In fact, we reached a Uefa cup final not so long ago by frequently going long and completely bypassing the midfield. There were games where every single goal kick and most balls from defence went long and wide to McCulloch to win a knock down or at worst, gain yards up the pitch. Ugly, but effective. Better I say than easy on the eye and losing. Different approaches for different opposition, and crucially at this time of year, for different weather conditions.

glasgowrangersgooner absolute tosh goldson is weak, can't turn, too slow caught on the back foot too often, as for punting the ball upfield as i said on previous posts i thought we got rid of that when ally left, that's the only tactic he knew, goldson and katic are bad defenders end of, edmunson should have replaced katic at half time, gerrard should know when players need changing but he is stubborn and will always pick his favourites.

goldson is miles better than katic and i agree without a doubt about the way you describe katic's erratic play. Like yourself Glasgowrangersgooner, i also have said this many times on these pages.
Although big filip helander lacks pace, i do think him and goldson are easily our best centre half pairing.
I also rate big edmundson and think he'll be a very good player for us.
Katic for me is the worst centre half of the four, no doubt about it!

Mentioning McCulloch gets me thinking. Folk saying Murphy, Docherty were let out on loan because they aren’t good enough, but guys like Jig, Broadfoot, Boyd, Whittaker weren’t world beaters, Smith brought them in because they knew what it meant to play for Rangers, they knew anything other than 3 points every game was unacceptable. Murphy and Docherty would be giving more than Kent and Kamara for me. The latter two might be more talented but the former two are still easily good enough to play in the SPL and understand what is required. More Scots needed in the team.

i feel that rangers are not direct enough most balls especially from Ryan Kent seem to go across the park, instead of going down the wings. Rangers need to play two strikers against these teams when morelos goes out on the wing there does not seem anybody making beeline for six yard box. While rangers control the ball it allows opposition to pack the penalty box and harder to score. quicker passing the ball forward.

The defending was awful on Sunday, i had a feeling that they would score.

We should just go out with all the negativity ringing in our ears and beat these teams, or, in Braga at least draw and go through. Its stevie that's costing us games. He persists with playing one ST. He switched to 442 yesterday and we dominated and looked a real threat. Our key players were able to get on the ball and play. We then from a position of strength switched back to a 433 and allowed St Johnstone to get back in the game. Everyone could see the change in the game when we went back to 433. Stevie's arrogance and stubborness will be his downfall. League is over and its not even march. If he doesn't win the scottish cup then he must go. 👍.

the blame lies at the other end of the pitch if you ask me Ryan kent has not get any assists this season and only 6 goals been a waste of 7 million Liverpool must be laughing at us paying that amount.
We should have more than two strikers at our club and to reliant on Morelos.
We have not had enough creativity in midfield for a while now and then we get rid of candelias that was a mistake
I think the manager has now got to take the responsibility he is the one that picks the team picks the tactics trains the players and has been backed with a lot of money to build his squad and then turns on his players and blames them for everything that's going wrong.

I have never been a fan of 433 - teams like Barcelona and Liverpool make it work because of the players they have. The switch yesterday to 442 gave such an obvious advantage to us. No idea why we went back to 433. Nor do I get the Davis sub - put Edmondson on and shore it up would have been better. We are not Liverpool and need to start either 442 or even 352.

After yesterdays result the usual posters were on wanting SG sacked. This morning those wanting SG kept on were to the fore. May I aske those wanting rid of him to look at the poll SGL requested, 69% want him given a 3rd year, of which I am one.

Theswagmen is one of the most vociferous for wanting him gone. I would say that 90-95% of his posts were for SG to be sacked, getting really tedious, followed by AS1974.

Guys we know that you want him gone, you have told us often enough, your opinion, but it would be nice to see a different post from you. Others want him gone, but at least they post on other subjects.

Sir Struth, next season I will be looking for a stronger starting 11 and improved squad. I will also be looking for SG to be a wiser and significantly improved team manager in all aspects of the role. We have improved dramatically under SG. Performances like today demonstrate that whilst improvements have been made we have a long way to go. In the words of the other Bill Struth "no matter the days of anxiety that come our way, we shall emerge stronger".

God the SG out brigade is out in force today! Yet he was a hero after beating Celtic at Christmas, we just don’t have the players to challenge Celtic and that’s down to money they have a stronger squad we are well ahead of any other team but until we spend significant sums of money we will not catch them, yes we spent on Kent and Helender but look at the money they have spend over the last two or three years compared to us, the EURO run will help financially but we were flying at Christmas then we started loosing players to injury suspension or lack of form which happens in all teams but we don’t have the players to come in to replace them yesterday our defence was school boy especially Katic he had a nightmare and to say SG should protect his players I find strange Katic should be looking at himself and thinking god I need to improve if I had a bad day at work my gaffers would tell me and if he can’t take criticism well he shouldn’t be there, to sack our manager would be crazy what if we did say £5mill minimum to pay them off then bring in new management team god knows how much that would cost probably have to get someone who is out of a job as we couldn’t afford compensation, then where does the transfer kitty come from we are financially well behind Celtic and it will take time to change that, just look how far ahead of Aberdeen we are compared to when SG arrived because of the money we have taken in from Europe being spent on the team, from where we were we are mikes ahead but we need to suck this run of bad form up stand by the team and try and close the gap, we have rated close to £20 mill from Europe this year and hopefully our kit deal can be sorted out and we can invest we aren’t that far behind but right now our defence has cost us dear how many times have we thrown away a lead this season no one could have seen Katic, s display on Sunday he was a hero at Celtic Park yet yesterday he was like Bambi on ice at fault for both goals it’s not easy but two years isn’t long enough to take us from the state we were in to win a league we may win nothing this year but we must stay as one.

Graham, spot on mate, I was raging yesterday after that latest debacle, and my post reflected this, but, calls to get rid of Gerrard are farcical. Think on people as to what SG inherited here, yes, he's made mistakes, but so has Guardiola this season, and he's spent more than SG by a long way. Europe from a financial standpoint has been pivotal for us this season, over £15 Million so far, where would we have been financially without this income. Ask yourselves this, does it really matter how many titles they win before we become successful again, as it my belief that it will not benefit them in the slightest, we have come from near oblivion to being in the last stages of the Europa Cup, and SG has had a big hand in that.

We need to take stock of where we are, of that there is no doubt, but, we cannot afford to go gung ho looking to change Managers every time we hit a blip, SG has to be ruthless now until the end of this season, and have NO FAVOURITES, as no player has earned that right recently, so let's get back to reality and not concede anything, but simply strive to get back quickly to where we were before January. This is just a view I personally hold folks, and I don't expect you all feel the same, but it would help if we had some realisation when we rant, myself include, all the best to the team for the rest of this season.

If we get knocked out of both cups this week, then he needs to start a few of the youngsters in the remaining league games. We have a bit of a cushion over third place, and i'm sure some of the youngsters want to play and put effort in for this club, unlike several in the first team who appear just to be going over the motions week by week. It looks like gerrards favourites get picked even after awful performances, and he seems to think this slow possession stuff will win games in the spl. Everyone else can see its not working, but I also didn't see much concern from the touchline yesterday from the management. So depressing since December.
