Hastie just scored a cracker for Rotherham. 3 in 3!

17 Sep 2019 21:50:49
Hope jake hastie keeps this form up.
He's absolutely been flying since going on loan to rotherham. I think its the correct decision to send him out on loan, as gerrard couldn't guarantee him playing time, whereas he's guaranteed that with rotherham.
He'll come back to us next season, a much better player. Hastie has the potential within him, to be a superb winger for us, in the future. He's a very powerful, direct winger with pace and can also score goals. He has all this in his locker and if we develop him in the correct way, i truly think we'll have a terrific winger on our hands. Hastie is still only 20 years old.

18 Sep 2019 06:15:15
Just like Docherty, he'll come back a better player full of confidence raring to go and then not get a look in under Gerard.

18 Sep 2019 06:42:58
Look how it has worked out for Docherty! Unfortunately he can't get any game time and needs to be loaned out again for his development rather than wasting on the bench or at times not even in the squad.

Not any youth getting any chances with SG just now as he seems to have gone down the tried and trusted route.
Hastie has potential, whether we make the best of it time will tell. Would be nice to start developing young players and sell them on for a profit after a few years.

18 Sep 2019 08:13:00
Docherty went to Shrewsbury last season, was their player of the year, came back a better player and now we hardly see him we should be looking to send the youngsters out to a far higher standard of team in England, an SPFL team or keeping them. in my opinion.

18 Sep 2019 08:29:33
Recall him and play him on the right instead of Ohno.

18 Sep 2019 08:56:13
The Oracle has spoken, so it must be true.

18 Sep 2019 11:27:57
What do you mean styab?

18 Sep 2019 11:56:48
I'd much rather Hastie was at Ibrox banging in 3 goals in 3 games. When are these youngsters going to get a chance to show what they can do? The likes of Ojo hasn't impressed me so far. And what about Docherty, another who has not yet been given a chance. I appreciate these younger players must bide their moment but surely they can be given game time against, e. g. Livingston, with all respect to them.

17 Sep 2019 19:53:01
I'm an old enough rangers supporter to have also watched derek ferguson breaking through and playing for rangers. Like barry his younger brother, derek was a terrific midfielder. A lot of fellow bears round about my age actually think derek was better than barry. If i had to choose, i'd say barry was better than derek, but not by a great deal.
Fellow bears out there, who did you rate the better midfielder between the ferguson siblings, derek or barry and what would be your reasons for your choice?

17 Sep 2019 20:45:33
Bazza for me as he played better and more game time to do so!

17 Sep 2019 20:55:17
A no brainer. Barry!

17 Sep 2019 21:00:44
Is this a serious question? It’s like comparing little mix to the Beatles.

17 Sep 2019 21:07:36
Totally. Little mix are amazing.

17 Sep 2019 21:14:11
Derek definitely has the edge for me, tremendous player when he broke thru as a teenager in the 80’s and later more than held his own in the esteemed company of Souness, Durrant and Wilkins. Only problem was usual Scottish lack of respect and appreciation of the opportunity presented. Barry on the other hand took full advantage of his opportunity and achieved much more.

17 Sep 2019 21:14:21
Hastie scores again.

17 Sep 2019 21:56:42
Barry for me. Stephen Kelly coming through is the next top central midfielder that we will produce.

17 Sep 2019 22:35:23
Clearly Barry was the better player. Had the mentality whereas Derek did not. I loved Derek when he broke in to the team but Derek through his career away.

18 Sep 2019 06:01:43
Derek for me.

18 Sep 2019 08:50:09
Jzer totally agree re kelly.

18 Sep 2019 09:29:31
For me Derek was the better player comparing then at a young age he was fantastic but like a lot of our players he lost his way fell out with Souness and when that happens your finished but both were great players and Barry went on to captain the club but comparing the two as teenagers it’s Derek for me.

18 Sep 2019 11:02:44
Barry Ferguson was dominating games, big games, from a young age. Vision, skill, determination and leadership in abundance and could get a goal. For me, a true modern Rangers legend. Derek was a player, but didn't have Barry's fire.

18 Sep 2019 11:59:38
Like Hastie et al, I'll be surprised is Stephen Kelly ever gets a chance.

Europa League - Distraction or Aspiration?
At what point do we cut our losses and run?
Is it just all about the money?
Surely we shouldn't look at ourselves as a cheap Europa League wh?
Just there to get pumped on a regular basis ( remind you of anyone in the CL? ) .
Aspirations
A club our size and stature needs to be there.
It's a chance to build experience before our return to the biggest stage - the CL ( #55 )!
A chance for the players to test themselves against a higher standard of player.
A chance for the players to put themselves in the shop window?
A reward for the fans - there's nothing quite like a European night at Ibrox.
That tingle down the spine at work on the Thursday in anticipation of the game that night!
Distractions.
Playing Thursday then Sunday can be detrimental to our league form.
After all it is our bread and butter.
Stopping 9IAR is the be all and end all to some.
Injuries. Squad rotation!
The current off-field issues with UEFA which won't disappear overnight.
Do we therefore twist? Or do we fold?
To concentrate on the greatest prize of all? #55, and another league title for the Famous Glasgow Rangers!
My opinion - we've built a squad and have a playing style that's equipped to deal with both in the short term.
Obviously due to the format of the Europa League, if we make it out the groups we will come up against some decent sides at one point.
Until then, let's just enjoy the ride.

17 Sep 2019 15:35:51
Whys that them? We did not absolutely throw the league away until after the winter break and well out of europe.

17 Sep 2019 15:56:01
Ltsgo55, my own opinion is that Glasgow Rangers should always be aiming to be the best we can be at the very highest level. We have to grow in stature in this way, the SPL Title will not get the Cub recognised abroad, participating in European Competition on a regular basis will, and will also produce Funds way in excess of anything we will ever earn in the SPL.

We will then be able to attract a better quality of player who won't see it as a come down to play here if they are going to be pitting their wits against Europe's cream players every season, and as a consequence, we will be winning our own league regularly to guarantee CL football every season.

17 Sep 2019 15:57:11
@paul86 - it’s in the context that some people are fearful we will fall further behind.
Should we therefore forget about Europe or not?
I don’t think so. No point in building a squad is there?

17 Sep 2019 16:04:31
We should most importantly look to compete in every match we play in Europe. Last season we did that but fell just short. Therefore this season i'd like to see us go one better as I believe the squad is stronger.
Would be good to get through the groups and then anything after that is a bonus.

17 Sep 2019 17:01:13
irvger - - I think if we won the league this year after what we have been tnrough the last 6 years - it WOULD be noticed in Europe.
SG has bigger fish to fry though and showing he has the competency to play in Europe will help him in the long run to get the job he wants.

I (unfortunately) think the 2nd option is the way SG will go this year.

17 Sep 2019 19:22:44
Gerard may want the Liverpool job, but if you look at their forums, Liverpool fans don't want him.

17 Sep 2019 19:47:59
When have we been pumped in Europe? We’ve only lost one game since Gerrard came in.

17 Sep 2019 19:50:00
Gerrard will NOT get the Liverpool job if he isn't a success at Rangers.
Why would they? There is plenty of high profile successful managers out there. Sentiment doesn't come into it at the top level of football. 👍.

18 Sep 2019 10:27:23
we need european money to pay for players we need to compete in EU and at home. we also need the attraction of EU football to attract the right players. so to me the both are intrinsically linked and need both. we need the revenue just to survive but we need the players to compete.

17 Sep 2019 14:34:31
Hi bears looking forward to a great euro night on Thursday should be some night. I was hearing Rangers got permission from UEFA to allow kids from the soccer schools to be let into areas meant to be left empty. Heard this from a guy at work who's kid is involved. A good move by the club and great for the kids. Roll on Thursday W. A. T. P.

17 Sep 2019 11:56:00
Was reading there that katic getting dropped for Thursday night it should be goldson getting dropped all he does pass the ball to get it straight away looks he feared to go forward with the and that short on Saturday there he bottled to go in for tackle and another thing if tav wants play on the wing fs get I right back on as the season goes on Jack, Davies and some other players will get p off cover for tav.

17 Sep 2019 13:22:14
What?

17 Sep 2019 13:38:35
What a think he was saying was if goldson was in and big katic tae the baw a right back could cover big wee Davis and jack in midfield with wee tav pushing on for a call up tae the Scotland squad cause wee goldson cannot play oot fae the back an aw that mate!

17 Sep 2019 14:03:59
Yir talking single fish. wit he is saying if Alves wiznae Spanish he would be Scottish and he could play for N Ireland. And if Tav And candyman could link up better it would take the pressure off Gorham. Glad that's cleared up!

17 Sep 2019 16:10:24
Jeez just reading that have my brain an absolute beating I read it about 8 times and still don't know what to make of it.

18 Sep 2019 10:29:52
Jeo53 i was nearly believing you there until you said Alves was spanish.

17 Sep 2019 10:33:57
How can commons criticism Allen when he got a successful longer contract for Morelos plus got in kamara for 50k and Aribo for buttons our business had quickness no leaks Allen was hardly unsuccessful that's a bit over the top by the pundit.

17 Sep 2019 11:04:31
Aribo yet to be proved a success! Made a lot of bad signings as well grezda being the biggest one a complete waste of 2million. Until we sell one of his signings for a big profit he can’t be described as an out and out success.

17 Sep 2019 11:44:03
So what his signings are only judged by the profit we make, not their performance for the team? Even Guardiola doesn’t get it right every time and he’s got a much better market to choose from than us. Aribo’s a cracking player, exciting to watch and definitely a higher standard than we’re used to. Everybody needs time to settle in and I’ve got nothing but faith in the boy.

I thought Allen did well, we’ve got a higher standard of players now than we have in a wee while!

17 Sep 2019 12:19:24
aribo got a signing on fee of 1 mill and he's on 25k pw. that's hardly peanuts.

17 Sep 2019 12:05:02
It's just a typical response from a so called ex Celtic expert, trying to discredit the fantastic work my has done at our club. (Expert my archie)
I find it strange that there was no mention of BR and his head of recruitment over the whole catalogue of failed signing under his tenure.

There was a deafly silence when BR and their head of recruitment left, about their record in the transfer dealings. It only confirms it's all about the Rangers.

17 Sep 2019 12:24:25
These days 1M is hardly breaking the bank that's all saying everyone has there own opinion but I liked mark Allen well respected mam.

17 Sep 2019 12:24:39
Another celtic fan knowing aribos exact wages and signing on fee on yir way kaney pal.

17 Sep 2019 12:40:27
And how do you know this Kaney? Oh yes I forgot you are all experts in everything Rangers. You'd be better bracing yourself for your usual away pumping. Rennes are sitting second just behind PSG. Be afraid! Lol.

17 Sep 2019 12:46:12
@kaney - stop making Tom Kite up. 👍
You don’t even know what Celtic players are on but you know what Rangers players get paid? 🤡
You’re just jealous he picked Gerrard over the Lurgan Bigot though let’s be honest that’s a no contest😂👍.

17 Sep 2019 13:06:27
Doubt that's true Kaney. Think Brentford would have been offering wages like that? Why would we?
Can you post a link to that contract info?

17 Sep 2019 10:11:44
The Problem of the Left Back Position!

The enigma that is Andy Halliday!
One of our own.
The fan who is living the dream.
Not blessed with the greatest of talents.
But who gives his all. Would run through a brick wall for the club!
But is this now enough?
Dependable against a certain level / quality of opposition.
But definitely not good enough where this team needs to be.
Which takes us to the conundrum that is Borna Barisic.
Croatia's first choice left back.
Undoubtably talented. Wand of a left foot.
Dependable in Europe.
Found wanting in our bread and butter of the SPFL. Looked on as a soft touch.
He should be a standout at any level.
Which means we rely on a third left back at times who's right footed!
Jon Flanagan - strong in the tackle, excellent in defence at times.
As science hasn't advanced enough that we can combine the best qualities from each of them!
My preference would be to give Barisic a run of games, with Flanagan as his deputy.
And surely we must have an up and coming left back playing for the development squad or U19's who's talented for additional cover?
As much as I love Halliday for his passion, commitment and love for the jersey it is no longer enough.
Even as a squad player.
Sometimes you can't let sentiment get in the way of the bigger picture.
Thoughts?

17 Sep 2019 10:37:11
I love Halliday and will always cheer his name. But obviously we can't compare a midfielder to the croatian LB in that position. Am not sure BB plays well in our formation/ style of play. He seems to always want to cut in rather that be a marauding LB like Tav. Main job of anyone in defensive line is defending so in that he is the best. But gerrard wants him to go forward and he just doesn't look comfortable to me doing that. His left foot is unreal more than good enough to command free kicks and corners. Just feel he looks nervous sometimes. I would prefer a rock of a defensive line with 1 deep lying midfielder that a defence that constantly leaves 2 at the back as we play wing backs as one mistake in the midfield and the defence is caught out and that's happened to us many times. Maybe its old school, but let the defenders defend the midfielders create and the stikers put the ball in the net.

17 Sep 2019 10:41:19
Halliday doesn’t do much wrong, don’t know why he gets the abuse he does. He’s not a world beater but he’s pretty reliable whenever he plays. Either him, Barasic or Flanagan are fine as squad players, but we should have brought in a first choice left back in the window. Not sure what the issue is with Borna. Clearly has talent but for whatever reason we can’t get a level out of him.

17 Sep 2019 11:18:56
@theswagman - I’ve never met a Rangers fan who’s abused Halliday yet.
I know plenty who can acknowledge his limitations as a player though. 👍.

17 Sep 2019 12:08:11
that's a better post wagsman!

17 Sep 2019 09:23:38
A good few of us bears yesterday, got talking about how we all felt we need another striker and a different type of striker at that.
We need a big strong, robust old fashioned type striker, who's good in the air. Roll back the years and we started talking about the likes of mark hateley, dado prso, daniel cousin etc. I totally get it, because we do need that sort of striker. ED could you please run a poll mate if you don't mind? The poll being, who did we rate the better all round striker, from these 3 former rangers striker's
ie. mark hateley, dado prso and daniel cousin?
Cheers ED!

Former Rangers Strikers poll

17 Sep 2019 10:25:01
Coops the two Dereks were top notch but in terms of the style of player you're talking about nobody beats Mark Hateley. We don't have aerial threat and heading is Morelos big weakness.

17 Sep 2019 10:30:55
The problem is Coop many of these bears maybe never saw big Mark Hateley playing. What a player in the air also on the ground! Just look at the amount of goals he scored for England, Milan, Monaco and Rangers and he was a hero of mine! No disrespect to the other 2, with Prso being a good player, they were not in the same class as Mark! 🇬🇧.

17 Sep 2019 12:09:48
Prso for me. Altough its close with Hateley. Best striker partnership hateley/ mccoist.

17 Sep 2019 12:17:01
Yes yately1,big mark hateley was a big hero of mine also pal. I've got a tattoo of the big man to prove it.
He was a fearsome, awesome all round striker! Not the best goalscorer i've seen at ibrox, but certainly the best all round striker i've seen IMO! He was absolutely unplayable at times,
with terrific heading ability, very pacey and a left peg like a wand!

17 Sep 2019 13:25:13
Hateley all day for me. Battering ram of a centre forward right when I started watching Gers but had a bit of class about him too.

All accounts a top bloke too, my mate used to bump into him in his local and always had time for a chat and a picture.

17 Sep 2019 16:25:35
Hately for me, an awesome threat. I recall McLeish nullifying him against England tho. Hately for me!

17 Sep 2019 19:04:01
What a terrible poll. Would be surprised if anyone picked Prso or Cousins!

Can we please have a poll of the best winger out of Laudrup, Capucho or Sionko.

On a serious note though, the best Striker I have seen at Ibrox was Michael Mols (pre Munich) . The guy was probably one of the best strikers in Europe at the time, no idea how we managed to sign him tbh only wish we could have seen him play at that level for his entire career.

18 Sep 2019 11:51:54
all fine and dandy but we don't play that formation anymore, but for me hately was definately the best all rounder. always remember that peach of a goal against leeds away from home. world class.
