I had a long conversation last night with "an insider" from Ibrox (more than a few will know the name so I won't be giving any hints). Although Gerrard is more than likely to be named as manager, it's not as far down the road as some would have you believe. It is anticipated that he will be in place by the start of next week if all of his requests are met. I believe it's in relation to transfer decisions, backroom staff and also potentially links with the board.
The feeling was that Gerrard seems happy with the squad and that they are good enough to be kept on. The quote I was given is that they need leadership, and the feeling from those running the club is that Gerrard will provide this.
There was also some mention of changes to the planned appointment of Thelwell Junior, which I also read on here late last night I think. It is likely that this has been blocked by the owners and that Thelwell is raging about it, his job may be under threat now with this being considered as being out of order.

If he can somehow get past a meeting with Thelwell and Stewart then maybe he's in, but that meeting would be difficult for anyone, such a lot of bull to listen to .
Bookies very strong odds on though, but maybe they have never met or heard that pair of chancers either.

If I was the Americans, I certainly wouldn't be happy with Thelwell.
Russell Martin's stats should have meant that he never got the managers job.
Personally, I'd like to see Thelwell leave.

Hi mate, first time poster (first time responder also) although long-time watcher.
This is my concern with the Gerrard situation, as much as I'd love him to come back, that it's not straightforward at all and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not going to go downhill due to us not being able to meet Gerrard's expectations in terms of responsibilities and club set up.
If it breaks down then we need to go for McInnes imo.
We all know McInnes wants the job one day, and he's already turned it down once. If he was to turn it down again then there wouldn't be a 3rd opportunity for him. The problem with McInnes is that he probably has the best job in Scotland outside of the Rangers job. If it were to go south for him at Ibrox then I can't see Tony Bloom having him back at Hearts. So where does he go from there?
Hopefully Gerrard deal gets over the line, he's a success and then we can plan for McInnes to come in afterwards, whenever that may be.

Also, Heart and Hand confirmed last night that Thelwell jr started in his role on Monday and those rumours are untrue. Which is unfortunate.

Absolutely no chance of that happening. Imagine being the manager to win the league with Hearts after all these years. He'd be a Scottish football Legend.

Thelwell stated just over a week ago that Russell Martin was the best head coach he had ever worked with.
He was central to the decision in hiring Martin.
He hired his own son.
The man's judgement is seriously questionable imo.
He is in the way.
Kevin Thelwell needs to resign or be fired immediately.

Thelwell Jnr can get relived of his position it happened to someone the other year he only in a short time because of things he said in past.
So they could still get rid.
McInnes isn't leaving hearts IMO.

Thelwell will continue to be a big problem and the owners probably won't notice. Stewart might stab him in the back to save himself though.

AllyMc the toughest part of that would be getting permission from Hearts to speak to him in the first place. I think McInnes is undoubtedly the Rangers manager in future. Whether the timing is right for both parties just now is extremely debatable.
However, if Hearts did grant us permission, which would never happen in a million years, then I personally have no doubts that he would take the opportunity. He doesn't strike me at the type who doesn't fancy himself to succeed.

I'm not a fan of Thelwell but let's get this right, he said that Martin was ONE OF the best coaches he had worked with, not THE best. How many coaches will he have worked with in his career, not a huge number I would imagine . Might mean we should steer clear of those guys though .

As much as i'd want it to happen if it meant Celtic didn't win another league title I just can't see it. The league is set up so the old firm has the best chance to win. Hearts would need i'd say min of 20 points against the old firm sides to even stand a chance of winning.
