If after these next 2 crucial weeks for our football club against both hearts and hibs haven't gone our way, then we seriously need to look at replacing our manager and not allowing this to fester any further ?I'm sure most of us on this site, would agree with that.
If martin has to be replaced i honestly now think we need to be looking more to home for our possible next manager, we've tried all the other scenarios ?I would honestly now consider the possibility of current hearts manager derek mcinnes, getting a shot at the Rangers manager's job, as for me he does tick most boxes ie. very organised with a system and each player knows their job, knows the scottish league inside out, tactically aware,
good man man manager, who will have players sweating blood for him, would have more money/ scope at Rangers in buying better players, than he's ever had at any other previous club he's managed ?I never thought i'd come round to this thinking but the more i study it the more i think he'd be a good appointment for us, with all the positive reasons i've stated above ? Thoughts guys ?.

I got a bit of stick for saying it, but after Clement I felt McInnes was the right choice for the short term.

Sort out the mess, make us difficult to beat and bring back a bit of bite.

Would have given us a more stable platform for someone more 'progressive' to build on.

11 Sep 2025 07:12:56
As i said on your last post about McInnes I don't believe he will be amongst the contenders.

I believe Derek is a very good manager and would be a good option but I just can't see it coming to fruition.

11 Sep 2025 07:06:46
I thought Martin would have learnt from his time at Southampton and done a decent job for us, that Danilho would eventually come good.
I also thought we needed a Brittish manager as its mainly not worked out with Foreign managers.
I've not got a clue basically ? but I'd be shocked if he does manage to turn this around!

11 Sep 2025 07:27:36
I would have McInnes and Ferguson as his number 2.
With regards to replacing the manager the clubs in serious debt. I read last year we were still paying off previous managers a monthly sum.
Another manager being paid off more debt! Does anyone know how much of the debt is through paying managers off and how much that may be?

11 Sep 2025 07:39:58
I wouldn't have a problem with him but doubt he'd want to come again. He's on to a good thing and at the start of something very promising so is secure in his position. EHL looks like ul get your wish to work with him then. Feel free to pass on anything you learn to your ex Ibrox colleagues.

11 Sep 2025 08:00:28
Newquay bear, the club is not in serious debt. Did you miss the part when the new owners came in over the summer and basically cleared the decks? There is no debt. Yes due to ffp we still need to be financially self sustainable and therefore can't just throw around money with no limit, however the club definitely isn't struggling with debt anymore.

11 Sep 2025 08:19:02
If Martin can't turn us around and get the required results to merit staying in the job, 100% Derick should be first choice and given the time required.

11 Sep 2025 08:29:21
No thanks.

11 Sep 2025 08:44:58
Always said myself Coops
DM could be a good shout for our Managers job when it's available
Back to basics and someone who knows the league inside out and how to set his stall out
With the players we have available he would go close I reckon.

11 Sep 2025 09:02:19
He would do very well at Rangers, Hearts will do very well this season, he now has a stronger squad than he did at Aberdeen and he finished runners up, he would then have more quality at Rangers the reason I'm thinking he'd do very well.

11 Sep 2025 09:10:02
Id have no issue giving Mcinnes a chance esp right now but if big changes are coming i'd like to see us make a big statement of intent . . . Nuno would be fantastic very proven Klopp would be a marquee statement i'd have no onjection about us forking out for a big name with proven track record obv managers like that are rare and often won't come cheap but right now i'm pretty much anyone but Russell Martin ?.

11 Sep 2025 09:18:17
It would be interesting if McInnes was successful with hearts if this would sway those of our support who have been dead set against him.

11 Sep 2025 09:20:25
Walter

Seriously look? A man who has dragged gers into abyss in short order. He should be gone. Ìn̈ his short period he is facing 90% unpopularity, Hearts game true benchmark level of club. Even if we win just holding inevitable.

11 Sep 2025 09:22:52
I don't have the knowledge others here have but please just someone who doesn't have this play about the back rigid one "modern philosophy" nonsense. As I say Russell Martin was the only one I strongly didn't want. So someone who can adapt. Obviously can't get him but someone on the mold of Thomas Franks who plays good football but can change when needed.

11 Sep 2025 09:38:52
I have always replaced our current manager with a poorer standard of manager (Beale to PC being the exception) so yeah that argument can carry some weight. I guess it's six of one if it's Martin or McInnes challenging for second / third in the league.

11 Sep 2025 09:39:04
I like Mcinnes, always talks well and did well at every previous club. Had Walter's approval too.
That said, I don't think he would leave Hearts after a few months. He may come in in the next year or two though?

11 Sep 2025 09:49:53
It will be interesting to see how Hearts get on this season.

11 Sep 2025 09:53:53
John, can you elaborate, what's your rationale behind not wanting Derick if Martin doesn't work out?
I'm asking this out of interest, not to provoke an argument as it's perfectly OK for people to differ opinions.

11 Sep 2025 10:03:04
McInnes has always been at clubs where he plays a mainly defensive style and hits on break. he wouldn't have that option here so to say he would be able to transfer to us as easily as some think might be a little too much of a stretch. he is a good manager who has done well where he was but when we weren't in the league he couldn't really challenge with what at the time was a good Dons squad.

11 Sep 2025 10:05:20
It's just not going to happen now tho is it.

11 Sep 2025 10:55:55
DM given Walter Smith backing doesn't mean a lot since McCoist was also.

11 Sep 2025 11:20:19
Co2 can't write it on here.

11 Sep 2025 11:35:58
McInnes would have been a solid appointment but doubt he'd come to us now as he's on to a good thing at Hearts whereas we just continue to make the wrong appointments.

11 Sep 2025 12:03:53
That's a great post Angus.

11 Sep 2025 12:13:23
Has McInnes ever had to face a low block? I don't think so. The "knows the league" thing doesn't matter cause did Rodgers or Ange know the league? Does the new Motherwell manager? No. There are far better managers out there and I think we should be pay more to get those managers, if we must go for a cheap option then it should be Stephen Robinson cause he's flexible and St mirren can play good stuff at times.

11 Sep 2025 12:42:14
Dado_Prso was that a typo or do you think Clement was a worse manager than Beale? Clement was handicapped by all Beales signings when he took over, still won us a cup, had a great run in Europe and put in a title challenge despite Beale leaving him an 8 point deficit when he took over .
As for McInnes, he was right up there with Martin as managers I did not want . Appointing him would show a complete lack of ambition but I suppose if we were settling for second place he's your man. If the new owners are serious about really progressing the club both domestically and in Europe they need to go for a real name, even if it means paying more than normal . The manager is the most important man at the club and we have always needed a strong character to succeed.

11 Sep 2025 13:06:30
Wsl, think Dado was saying Beale to Clement was the exception of replacing managers with worse.

11 Sep 2025 13:14:13
With regards the low block, I'm sure some teams will go to Tyncastle and park the bus this season so let's see how he gets on with that.
Handy to have a Manager that can set a team up to defend properly though.
He's an intelligent enough man though so I'm sure he'll learn quickly.

11 Sep 2025 15:45:05
Yeah that was the exception wslger ?.

11 Sep 2025 17:03:38
Get Mourinho in ASAP ??.

11 Sep 2025 19:52:47
I was a big fan of Clement and Koppen and I think both had us on the right tracks. The club is financially stable now. Walter came back and was more successful second time around and I'm pretty sure the same would happen for Clement. By the way, I think the club treated him very badly at the time. I have no idea if they are working or not or whether they would come back, but the Martin experiment hasn't worked and we all know that.

12 Sep 2025 12:35:54
McInnes is NOT the answer!
