A positive result on Saturday but nothing more than that.

Hardly surprising that the team plays much better and wins when the best player is included in the lineup. None of saturdays success was on Martin's terms - change of tactics and being left no choice to play Raskin. Loved his celebration too because I refuse to forget the shambolic start to the season with Martin's silly comments to the press, silly mind games with players and his stubbornness not to adapt tactics previously.

He finally had to adapt his tactics to get a result which will no doubt hurt his inflated ego. How do I know this? look at his comments in the post match presser when he couldn't resist himself without prompt state "we look like a team coached this week"

We've just delayed the inevitable sacking by another week.

TrueBlue martin won't get sacked imo mate and our owners are without a doubt for me going to give him time ?.

22 Sep 2025 11:28:35
Think martin will be more relieved to have won than worried about his ego.

Nothing wrong with saying we looked like a team that were coached this week, especially as many times this season we haven't and you've even said he changed his tactics to get the result which would have been coached so how is it not on martins terms or after winning a game is it all down to the players now?

People read way too much into these press conferences and pick up any small thing he says and makes it into something it's not. He was full of praise for the players and especially raskin.

his days are most likely limited at Rangers bar a miraculous turnaround, but if he has changed it and has got raskin playing a role that he's much better in and he'll realise that now, surely that's a good thing no?

See to be fair TrueBlue I think we all don't believe Martin is the right man but I do feel a majority of us hope to proven wrong and by this I mean I hope we continue to delay the inevitable as you say by continuing to win.

Liam Kelly stated in his presser that Martin has continued to tinker with tactics throughout his time here to try get the best out of the players so I think this is another example of a weapon created to beat him with.

Now the main reason for the post a lot of people latching onto this "we look coached comment". Let's say you're a binman and someone says doesn't even look like you emptied my bins this week. Chances are you'd comment the following week they look empty this week. It's hardly a massive issue but a few folk trying to make it one.

Does one win absolve the poor start to the season? Absolutely not. Was it perfect performance? No. Has anyone changed their mind on RM? Possibly a few but not the majority, but what I will say is we have fans calling for a board and manager to stand up against the SPFL and SFA, we want a manager who won't take crap from players and demand the best of them, we want a head coach with a bit of bite and fight in him. Unless it's directed at our fan media and support regardless of how we speak to or treat him lol.

I don't think he's the man but good on him for having a bite back and if he keeps winning and this becomes a springboard I hope he continues to bite back and put us in our place.

Tav - he will be relieved, yes. Raskin - the man he questioned about his professionalism and had training away from the group because he challenged his tactics when it clearly wasn't working. Ironically was the man that kept him in a job on saturday. Goal, assist and ran the game. The approach Martin implemented on saturday has come after being challenged by players like Raskin and the fans alike. Before saturday we didn't look coached, and for that reason we're 11th in the league. No need to be so brazen and chirpy after one domestic win this season against a top flight side.
I don't like him and won't like him.

History and statistics suggests he's a failure so don't get your hopes up. He needs a miracle.

22 Sep 2025 12:39:15
Well said Ayrshire!

22 Sep 2025 12:54:21
TB33- And you know FOR CERTAIN that's why Raskin was punished do you?

22 Sep 2025 12:59:43
The comment that " we looked as if we were coached this week " was his sarcastic reply to the accusation by a Rangers blogger that last week we looked as if we hadn't been coached. This was 100% correct and been true of the season so far which has been a shambles .
The comment in the presser, when asked about the first goal, that they had been working on set pieces and it was good to see one come off was hilarious, the goal coming from a routine started by Clement and used by Ferguson which we got three goals off last season. Hasn't been used this season as Raskin hasn't been playing.

Very good post Ayrshire.

22 Sep 2025 13:14:04
Very well put Ayrshire. Totally agree.
I think it's frustrating that there's still the personal attacks that come into criticising RM. Sure there's been plenty of amo on the football front but again references to clothes / diet / hair play no part for me. Another one is his ego! Yet some support wanted Jose - king of the ego.
I have no issue with someone who is confident and wants to play a particular way as long as it's backed up with results.

I wait to be proved wrong by RM but his choice of shoes is his own business.

22 Sep 2025 13:26:53
You said it wasn't on martins terms but then went on to say he was the one that changed the tactics?

i'm delighted raskin got a goal, unsure where the assist came from though and if he's changed his tactics to suit raskin and make the team better and has got a win from it, is that not a good thing that he's obviously starting to change and why are you saying he changed the tactics but it wasn't him but it was him but only because raskin and the fans told him to. seems a bit of a wishy washy argument to me.

he's the manager, he changed the tactics and it worked. good sign and hopefully the run of some more victories for the team because whether he stays or goes Rangers still need to win.

22 Sep 2025 13:29:06
So what happened to the no player is better than our club. we don't know what happened between Raskin and Martin 100%, we are all just guessing. so if walter (as he did) not play our best players would we have hammered him, no of course not. let's not let our dislike for a manager let all other issues go unpunished.

22 Sep 2025 13:35:09
Are we to applaud Martin for finally winning a game?

For playing our best player?

Really.?

11th in the league and no wins in the league to boot.

League over and its not even October yet .

What a disgrace.

22 Sep 2025 13:51:38
So because a manager didn't invent a free kick routine he can't use it. they possibly decided it was one they had used successfully before, worked on it again in training and it worked. so it was good to see something they had worked on (not invented he didn't claim that) came off.

22 Sep 2025 13:58:42
Ally, I think we should always be giving credit where it's due.

I've been one of Martin's biggest, and most vocal, critics - but I've also said that I think Thelwell deserves a great deal of credit for how he's handled the situation.

The easy decision would have been to sack him - however Thelwell has instead opted to put in place additional support to help Martin and give him a chance to develop as a head coach.

To me, that shows genuine leadership.

22 Sep 2025 14:03:06
Correct ally one game all is forgiven ?

Only reason we won it is because of Raskin the same we I think we would have beat Celtic if he played.

22 Sep 2025 14:06:04
I'm not against the board or Patrick Stewart, I defended him last week.
The club cannot issue statements after every decision goes against us. My only issue is with the manager. Results and his actions to now is more than enough justification to warrant this.

Athole - unfortunately I cannot share how I know but unless the information I was given is one sided then I have no other reason to question it.

Geesadodothat - for me the situation is more akin to Paul Le Guen and Barry Ferguson. I don't think Martin should be mentioned in the same sentence as Walter.

AllyMc62 has hit the nail on the head.

It's all ok folks, we are just going through the pain stage.

22 Sep 2025 14:09:13
Who said he should be applauded, i'll have a quick scroll.

nobody.

22 Sep 2025 14:26:02
Only way Martin gets more time from fans is winning games constantly, we need 6 points from Livingston and Falkirk, good chance of a win on Thursday Genk aren't at there best either, bit improvement for Saturday and we could get a positive result.

22 Sep 2025 15:29:38
Storm, at what point has anyone said all is forgiven or that RM is the man or anything?

Everyone pretty unanimous in the fact they don't think he's the man for us. However we would rather be wrong than right. We can dislike the head coach and still hope for success.

We won the game and could have scored more. Could have conceded more as well. Take the win. Allow a small smile bud. You'll feel better for it, instead of giving off this wee man energy.

22 Sep 2025 16:04:12
Walter,

Think you're incorrect. If we get thumped by Genk he'll have nowhere to go other than door.

22 Sep 2025 16:29:08
As much as I disagree with everything Russell Martin says or does, i am too far gone and stubborn to change my mind on the fact that he's useless, but I hope he's the cause of us winning the next 40 games in a row. The only way we will get rid of the walking head and shoulders advert is if he gets another job offer which will only happen if he's winning. If we don't start winning then we will be stuck with him until at least Christmas.

22 Sep 2025 20:29:45
