Funny when you think about it we've got fans for Steven Gerrard and fans against him.
Those against say it's appeasement by the board, and that he only won one trophy out of nine.
Fair points, to be fair.
But where are the American owners who were supposedly going to be "different" the ones who wouldn't bow down to fan pressure?
Now, I don't know if it will be Gerrard or not, but I'd like to think these owners have their own minds and the professional credentials to run the club the way it was sold to us all.
Surely, if it is Gerrard, then that's ultimately their decision their chosen candidate.
And if it fails, then it's their failure, not the fans.
The fans don't get to decide who's appointed manager.
Apparently there's a rigorous process in place when hiring someone. I highly doubt they're scrolling through fan forums thinking, "Well, the fans want this one, or They don't want that one. "
When the appointment is made, whoever it is, it will be their choice make no bones about that.
If it really is just about appeasing fans, then the "fairytale takeover" we were sold is a lie, and the current custodians aren't fit for purpose. The merry-go-round will just keep spinning.
Because if you believe that's the case, then the club is in a right mess with a board that can't make the hard decisions or stand up and be counted when it matters most.

I honestly don't think the decision will be influenced by fans - if so it will take about 3 years to conclude as there doesn't seem to be candidate that united the fans.

Can you honestly say Gerrard is the best candidate for the job?
Now that doesn't mean that others some may think are better will take the position.
But for me, Gerrard is an easy option to get the fans back onside.
That reason alone doesn't make it a bad appointment if it happens.

I thought SG was the obvious choice in the summer, based on the fact he inherited a worse side than what we have atm. Instantly made us a much more impressive team in Europe and then gradually improved the team domestically before going undefeated and winning the title.
For me it just seemed so obvious. The guy that knows how to do it and has done it before.
That said, it does seem like if he gets the job this time then it really undermines the direction of the club and those in charge of the recruitment process. And their roles would potentially become untenable. Stewart and Thelwell.

Appointing Stevie is an easy decision. It will get them right back on board with most fans too.
Every manager is a risk with us. We could be talking to Ancelotti Snr and it would still be a huge risk!
SG is less of a risk than them all.

This 1 in 9 stat is a prime example of how stats can be manipulated to suit an agenda.
For me, the 1 in 9 stat is completely unfair.
Gerrard inherited a basket case of a club with absolutely no chance of touching Celtic for two seasons.
Although I'll be the first to admit that in the 55 season we should have won a domestic treble.

Mph we'll probably never know the answer to that mate because we don't know what managers would be willing to take the job. I honestly don't think the board would go with gerrard if some of the names going about are willing to take it, there's names going around that have had a much better managerial career than gerrard. What I'm saying is maybe he's the best of the candidates approached that were willing to take it. We need to remember we have sacked 4 managers in last 5 years and we do play in the spl, huge club terrible league.
Stig that's another brilliant post mate. i'm Not sure if it is him how that could be appeasing the fans, most folk I know and speak to in the street don't want him. No manager is going to unite the fans, a huge percentage will always be disappointed and that's where the appeasement chat comes from.
