Florida, you stated in an earlier post that you still have a strong feeling that current hearts manager derek mcinnes, will eventually be the Rangers manager/ head coach ? what makes you sure this will happen mate ?Not having a go here mate, as i think myself it's a possibility, but it will be difficult to get him from hearts now, if we were to make a move for him ? Although it would be difficult to deal with hearts should we move for mcinnes, i think he himself would want to take the Rangers job and he would have in 2017 and had originally accepted the job from dave king, only to change his mind when king told him he only wanted him himself and not docherty his assistant and of course also the advice given to mcinnes from walter smith at the time ?.
23 Sep 2025 19:09:14
Hands off.
23 Sep 2025 19:14:53
Coops I just have a feeling that we will appoint him. No info just my gut feeling. I reckon it's more his time. I also think he has proving himself in our league time and time again and being an ex player knows the club and our traditions. I know Walter spoke highly of him and always thought he would be successful so that good enough for me. I don't think it would be that difficult if he wanted the big job enough ?.
23 Sep 2025 19:21:11
If he can do well at hearts win a couple cups and do well in Europe no reason why he can't be Rangers manager in the future he's still young enough.
23 Sep 2025 19:24:43
Incase anyone forgets, he didn't come because he was told he couldn't bring his assistant.
Would thw same problem would still be there then?
23 Sep 2025 19:33:19
EHL, an honest question to you mate.
Do you think there's any chance in the near future of derek mcinnes becoming the Rangers manager/ head coach ?Also how highly do you rate derek mcinnes mate ?.
23 Sep 2025 19:36:09
You're spot on florida, the late great walter smith rated derek mcinnes highly and always did say he was a Rangers manager in the waiting ?Also mcinnes always stated himself how close he was to walter smith and that he'd speak to walter on a daily basis ? Walter was a father figure to derek mcinnes.
23 Sep 2025 19:41:48
I don't see it in the near future, we could have approached him when we parted with ways with Clement, if he was on our radar then that was the opportunity to approach Kilmarnock a lower league team rather than now when he is at a bigger club, you never know of course but I can't see that one happening.
23 Sep 2025 19:35:08
Just as a matter of interest what has McInnes proved in this league time after time, I think he won one cup with Aberdeen when we were out of the league. Apart from that he has done nothing but be a mid to lower table manager whose style of football is basic to say the least . There was a time where that type of football may be what we needed but now now.
Just because Martin has made an arse of things doesn't mean McInnes is the best we can do.
23 Sep 2025 19:43:31
He is a football manager. he will either eventually come to end of contract or he will be fired. as sure as night follows day one will happen.
23 Sep 2025 20:01:57
St Johnstone 27 November 2007 until 19 October 2011 177 games 71 wins 53 lost 53 draws 40.11%
Aberdeen 7 April 2013 until 8 March 2021 378 games 202 wins 75 lost 101 draws 53.44%
Kilmarnock 4 January 2022 until 19 May 2025 159 games 61 wins 38 lost 60 draws 38.36%
Hearts 19 May 2025 - Present 10games 8 wins 2 lost 80.00%
Wsl that's McInnes stats for each club he has been at in the SPL. Given the shoestring budget he has worked on at each club I believe he has done pretty well to come out with an overall winning ratio at each club he has been at. ?.
23 Sep 2025 20:06:08
SWS, I doubt it.
McInnes is more of a Manager than a Head Coach - so not sure he would fit in to our current model.
I have been very impressed by him though.
23 Sep 2025 20:33:47
Del needs to prove himself at a club where expectation is there daily. He's punched with low budget clubs but time will tell with Hearts.
23 Sep 2025 20:35:00
Stevie G, docherty isn't mcinnes's assistant anymore mate as he's now the ross county manager.
23 Sep 2025 21:04:37
Mcinnes in a heartbeat.
23 Sep 2025 21:25:42
Florida don't think anyone is disputing what he has done at other clubs but we are not after him.
23 Sep 2025 21:35:09
EHL - that first post actually made me laugh.
You've forgotten yer auld knickers because you've got new knickers, as my old aunty used to say ??.
23 Sep 2025 21:43:47
EHL what has impressed you the most? Anything surprised you about how he goes about things or his philosophy?
23 Sep 2025 21:55:56
Rosevale if you read the post I was responding to Wsl who is disputing what McInnes has achieved in the league ?.
23 Sep 2025 22:01:19
Scotty, three things stand out.
1. He's really open to the application of sports science and psychology - probably my own prejudice, as I assumed he wouldn't.
2. His philosophy is super simple. You have to earn the right to express yourself - his favourite saying is 'Nae Passenger'.
3. He's really hands off - has a brilliant bond with pretty much every department, gives everyone clear instructions and let's them get on with it. Something he says he learned from Walter.
23 Sep 2025 22:29:23
Coops, thanks very much for reply mate.
That's that issue resolved.
For what my opinion is worth I actually think he'd be a very successful Rangers manager.
I know Walter smith rated him and wanted him as a future Rangers manager.
24 Sep 2025 08:02:08
Walter rated Ally too, His previous stats don't mean anything he will be expected to play 100 games win 100 games for Rangers or you lot will go off your heids again and want him sacked.
24 Sep 2025 08:02:59
Good insight EHL.
24 Sep 2025 08:10:28
EHL that sounds like he would make a promising manager at a bigger club with a bigger budget I wonder how he would fare under more pressure to win?
However as much as I've said before that I would take him as our manager
I just know for a fact 49ers will no doubt go back down a left field route and appoint someone we will all be like….
Why ?
We just never seem to get it right and never go for the easy options on players and managers under our nose.
24 Sep 2025 10:45:32
EHL when you say he wouldn't fit our current model, do you think our current model is wrong or could it be adapted? I think McInnes would we a great appointment for us.
24 Sep 2025 10:58:57
I actually like ally as manager. I think when u listen to him he knows the game
He was chanting for martinelli last week, as an example, to come in and change the game. Yhe bit donw it in 40secs. He knows football.
With better players at his disposal than last time he'd be good. But he won't manage again.
24 Sep 2025 12:59:45
EHL interested in the differences between head coach and manager. so how does your third point work with a head coach in charge. is that head coach just responsible for certain aspects such as tactics, formation and choosing team or do they do much more than that. Just really wondering who is responsible in our new format for even giving the instructions to the other departments. if it is the HC then what is the difference.
24 Sep 2025 13:04:13
Walter Smith is a legend and the greatest Rangers manager of all time but before we use his recommendation as a reason to take McInnes we should all remember that Walter recommended McCoist to succeed him and he was a terrible manager.
24 Sep 2025 13:50:46
Wsl ally was acting as scout director of football manager director and god only knows what else. He was absolutely swamped at that time.
The club was in the worst state it has ever been in, ye really can't judge ally on anything from then mate.
The players likely had more to do with the results at that level than the manager I'm afraid.
24 Sep 2025 16:28:03
Ally had us 10 points or so ahead of Celtic and on course for 4 in a row prior to admin, how was Ally a bad manager? If you are referring to the after admin, we were in the 3rd division and had 5 players. Ally had to deal with all the carry on behind the scenes. Alex Ferguson and Walter Smith would no have done any better with the circus that was happening within our club.
