Question to all who are fervent backers of Gerrard.
If Steven Gerrard goes on to reject Rangers advances for the second time in 4 months will that be enough to stop the cheerleading for him?
08 Oct 2025 10:21:18
I don't understand the point of your question mate?
Are fans not allowed to like him? Or want him back?
What's your angle?
08 Oct 2025 10:24:53
If he rejects us now it's down to Stewart and Thelwell I'd say Asa. He's not my first choice but our safest bet right now. Think we will have scared away any top managers for the foreseeable future.
08 Oct 2025 10:25:36
Different now imo, he stated family reasons as he was about to become a grampa last time, might be more settled now and fancy the challenge, he has alluded he wants to assemble the right team around him and the right post to be available. I'm ambivalent either way tbh, but would be interested to see if he can replicate the way he had us playing.
08 Oct 2025 10:25:45
Yes you don't get to keep turning us down.
08 Oct 2025 10:28:21
Depends on the circumstances of the rejection, if certain assurances weren't given for example - I'd understand the rejection, however should the rejection be for a frivolous reason then I'd question the desire to be at Rangers.
08 Oct 2025 10:32:56
Why would it?
It would only mean the suits failed to accede to his requests pertaining to backroom team, transfer input or financial backing for the second time in 4 months.
08 Oct 2025 10:37:36
Here's hoping.
08 Oct 2025 10:38:41
Gerard won 1 in 9, why are we ushering him back?
1 in 9 that is never good enough for a Rangers manager.
Is that what some fans level of expectations are? If so then the standards have dropped frighteningly from a fan base that expects winning and 2nd best as good as last.
So with Gerard winning 1 in 9 are we as a fan base happy with that and is that the expectations moving forward.
We are looking to re-hire a manager that since leaving Rangers has been an abject failure at every club he has been to since and won nothing?
Where is this drive of Gerard is answer coming from, he wasn't the answer then and his cv doesn't say he is the answer now ?.
08 Oct 2025 10:41:01
Gerrard is needed just now Asathor, none others mentioned gets the players instant respect, here is me that never wanted him the last time, all different now.
Cheerleading only says immature too me, but whatever gets you off mate.
08 Oct 2025 10:42:14
Yes i believe so. he's not my 1st choice but more i think about it the more i think its what the club needs at this time. Stability, will command respect from players, will attract players also. Should have won the treble in his last full season but still won us the league. And was clear also before going to villa.
Rose last time wanted a far higher salary than we can afford
Muscat still employed.
Danny Rohl has Russell martin x2 written all over it.
08 Oct 2025 10:47:24
I'd say so Asa. I mean what concerns did he have then that he hasn't now.
If its about backing in the market, the backing in the summer was fantastic.
08 Oct 2025 10:50:31
Asa, we're all looking for some positivity, and everyone wants to see Rangers succeed after what's been a disastrous start to the season.
Right now, the idea of Gerrard returning feels like a move in the right direction to some of us, if he's appointed, and that's still a big if.
But let me ask you this in return,
You've always spoken highly of Paraag and Andrew, calling them astute businessmen that you respect.
So, if they believe Gerrard is the right appointment to take the club forward…
Will your view of them change?
Will they still be "astute businessmen" in your eyes?
Will they still be good for the club?
Because from what you've said, it sounds like you'd be very disappointed in both of them if they chose Gerrard and if that's the case, are you saying you wouldn't support them as strongly anymore?
Look prepared to your reply ?.
08 Oct 2025 10:54:30
So if anyone on here wants SG back does that count as cheerleading?
He isn't my choice, out of the realistic appointments I'd prefer Muscat even though I want Knutsen we all know he won't join us. That said I am not against Gerrards return if it happens as he knows how to win and has a winner mentality.
If he accepts or rejects is on him and his family life etc as he has stated he is now a grandad so the time may just not be right.
08 Oct 2025 10:55:47
Yes Asa it would. But did he actually reject us last time mate z?
If he doesn't want the or take the offer then no he's scared d failure he can't make a perfect scenario to start it's unrealistic and I Think that's what he's doing here.
08 Oct 2025 10:57:01
Asathor and what happens with the managers you want is that also cheerleading? that did bring a smile too my face right enough.
08 Oct 2025 11:07:16
He won't get another chance if he rejects club again,
Problem club and fans have is we are seeing no leadership from Stewart thelwell in particular, we have no one apart from Thornton and Taylor who can read the room.
The delay in cavanagh and magathe stepping in was akin to shutting the stable door after the horse had bolted.
08 Oct 2025 11:08:20
Asa if he rejects it then fair enough. I don't think it's the fact people cheerleading for him, looking at the position our squad is in there is no fight or passion or respect for the head coach, Steven Gerrard would demand that from the players as a minimum and many feel that's what we are needing right now. He knows the club, knows the traditions and standards and what is required, Whereas a young coach such as Rohl who doesn't know the club, would be under immense pressure straight away. That's just my opinion and I'm by no means Gerrards biggest fan but we need someone who understands the club, fans and what is required. Many will disagree I just think right now we need stability and someone who could unite the club and fans. I've said before Martin was appointed I'd take Rose before them all.
08 Oct 2025 11:15:59
He walked away when he got what in his mind was a better deal.
Question if your wife/ girlfriend/ boyfriend, or what ever it is in this day and age, done a Gerrard, would you have them back?
08 Oct 2025 11:19:42
Asa, I am not one who is cheer leading him. Only passing on what I was told. If the 49rs like what they see of the back room team along with the cost. He will be in and that management team will get my full backing.
SG
GMac
Davies
DeFoe
and another. I am definitely all in!
08 Oct 2025 11:29:50
We all do a bit of cheerleading Asathor.
08 Oct 2025 11:30:24
No Asa. Because we don't know the reasons he rejected us both times if he does again. Who are you "cheerleading" for out of interest?
08 Oct 2025 11:39:09
GDog agreed but it is ok with wanting manages.
08 Oct 2025 11:42:01
Strange post that Asathor.
08 Oct 2025 11:43:39
Cheerleading? For the man that stopped our biggest rivals winning 10 in a row, brought passion and beleif when we were on our knees. The man who's squad took us to a European final, a first for many of our younger fans, a man that dominated Celtic for 14 months solid. I for one will be eternally grateful. Never speak about him the eay some do, including you.
08 Oct 2025 11:45:11
He did pull out, it was widely reported that it was for "family reasons ".
08 Oct 2025 11:45:45
And can I also add to my post
When I was pretty sure he would sign last time out
You said Asa Gerrard was never in the running?
So how could he turn us down?
Was my info correct after all last time?
that a deal was almost over the line until possibly Thelwell changed it and brought Martin instead?
08 Oct 2025 11:46:30
Stillabluenose you name one manager that wins anything with the squad he had when he first arrived? Gerrard has us playing very good football, a defence that barley lost a goal.
More so our players need someone that they have instant respect after being on thier arse under Martin and that man is Steven Gerrard.
08 Oct 2025 11:47:44
That's a brilliant question stig ?.
08 Oct 2025 11:48:25
Fans are entitled to there opinions on who they want as a manager, As a fan yourself asa are entitled to support who u would like in charge.
Calling it cheerleading is a bit weird.
08 Oct 2025 11:54:07
He's a very naughty boy.
For those who get the inference, that's my main concern with a lot (not all) of the backing Gerard gets from fans. Fair amount of recency bias and rosy retrospection where he's concerned and, of everyone, that's more unfair to Gerard himself if he does get the job than anyone.
Can see it in these replies, people talking about instant results and being able to win the league this year and such.
I'd expect him to be miles better than Martin (and I'm not one advocating for him), but he didn't get instant results last time, and it took 3 seasons to win the league, so while he'd undoubtedly be better than what we had (as would many of the others mentioned) I don't want to be here in 6 months again because the fans have turned if it's not the "instant" many expect. and incorrectly remember.
08 Oct 2025 12:05:31
You've done a woopsy Asa. Cheerleaders indeed! You seem to deem yourself as an authority in footballing matters. More knowledgeable than me for sure but I know if you want someone bad enough you can ignore rejection and move mountains to make it happen. You obviously are not a Stevie G fan. I am.
08 Oct 2025 12:13:02
Just say you want bilic and that's why you said you "have been told" it will be him
Like you were told "turgeman is days away"
Or when you were told "martin gets his jotters in a few days" (weeks ago)
Why are you're posts always unprovoked snidey wee digs at people in this group? Nobody has done a thing to you, and no one is out to get you. Quite the opposite in fact asa, you were welcomed by everybody on the site and you have always been well recieved, you seem to have taken an issue with people questioning some of your claims when in all honesty, noboy is even mentioning it anymore until you bring it up. Its a public forum and people can choose who they would like to be manager if they like, as can you.
08 Oct 2025 12:14:06
It's funny when you aim digs at people Asa but the minute someone questions you on your false info you take the huff and threaten to leave.
08 Oct 2025 12:14:13
I've got my Gerrard pom poms and hot pants on. Give us a G ??G?? let's GO.
08 Oct 2025 12:15:22
Everyone entitled to their opinion this place going like last time we were going through this where people going to get nasty and personal.
Bb4 that same man 1 trophy out of 9 and left out the back door in middle of the night but some seem to deem that acceptable. No Rangers manager does that. IMO.
08 Oct 2025 12:17:48
Ridiculous post asa, people's circumstances change all the time, I turned down a good job offer last year due to family circumstances, I'd be gutted if I wasn't considered again in the future. You're the guy that's cheerleading for a manager with 34 wins in 89 games over a 2 year period at Sheffield Wednesday, what has he achieved?
08 Oct 2025 12:18:47
Stupid question asa.
08 Oct 2025 12:18:48
Can only wonder if it was Rose would we still be cheerleading.
08 Oct 2025 12:41:28
Not once was I personal or insulting.
I consider leaving because some people just can't help but get personal and nasty!
And yes my star I would be cheerleading.
08 Oct 2025 12:56:10
Storm no one was getting personal on the forum up to the point this post came on?
Sometimes I wonder.
Everyone was just giving opinions on who they wanted
Haven't seen any nastiness at all
Until lie I say this post has got folks back up.
08 Oct 2025 13:02:16
Yeah storm you also said he was a rat that you wouldn't get behind about 14 weeks ago, now you're saying we need to get behind whoever is. Pretty sure you wouldn't have turned down a job in the best league in world on 5 times your current wage.
08 Oct 2025 13:10:56
Another silly question: ?
Are we all not entitled to our opinion?
Freedom of speech did I not here you say?
08 Oct 2025 13:22:36
'Best league in world', debatable. 5 times his wage, have you proof of that? I still think he is a rat, but no matter who the manager is we need to get behind him nothing wrong with that at all.
08 Oct 2025 16:29:11
I'm sure calling him a rat is nastiness, Strom.
No need for that at all. Christ he's the only manager to stop Celtic.
If he's a rat, hate to think what you make of all who's come before and after him.
It's your opinion storm, my opinion is that is poor for someone who we celebrated 55 with.
