If I hadn't read similar with Ruben Amorim, I wouldn't believe this.
However have been told that Martin has a clause in his contract that means we'd need to pay out his full 3 year contract if he is sacked within the first 6 months.
After which the compensation drops to 3 months.
This is why Rangers are working so hard to support him.
26 Sep 2025 10:22:06
Hope to god that's not true, but fear you're correct. Martin then essentially is just waiting to be sacked.
26 Sep 2025 10:22:22
Whoever agreed to that contract needs sacked along with Martin.
I suppose it makes sense why he hasn't been sacked.
26 Sep 2025 10:24:23
I doubt Rangers would be so careless to include this clause in the contract.
If they did, we fully deserve to be in this situation we are in.
Brutal.
26 Sep 2025 10:24:33
Just pay it rangers! If we were stupid enough to insert such a clause then we deserve all we get.
26 Sep 2025 10:24:37
I get the feeling when he speaks that he actually hates us Ehl.
Discussed it with Mrs last night, he's came in and knows he wasn't wanted from the off.
He didn't have any success where he would then have a live affair with fans which most managers have, advocaat big eck, so on… he's just went from dislikes to hated.
Due to that I think he's felt that hatred and in turn, naturally feels the same back.
I think he's felt that really doesn't like our fans. The feeling is very much mutual.
26 Sep 2025 10:26:55
If I might ask EHL,
Do you know who negotiated this contract?
If you do could you politely report them to thr home office for Domestic terrorism.
That's genuinely a scandalous deal
Cavenagh and the Niners are absolutely blowing away my expectations, unfortunately in all the wrong ways.
I reckon we should just clear the decks and fill all thr vacancies with Clement like last season.
The man was filing our tax report and coaching at the same time and STILL did a better job than Martin.
26 Sep 2025 10:30:23
We're stuck with the cretin until January. ?♂️?♂️?♂️.
26 Sep 2025 10:32:34
As I said, culpable at all levels.
26 Sep 2025 10:34:19
So when does that 6 month end?.
26 Sep 2025 10:36:44
Astonishing the level of incompetence running our club.
26 Sep 2025 10:39:45
EHL, I don't doubt you hear things from better sources than most of us here however I can't imagine for a second any business would have a FULL payout if sacked within his probationary period.
Most businesses have a 6 month probationary period where termination would only cost X amount of the contract. I suspect Martin has a low payout at this stage however the Club are maybe too stubborn to admit they got it wrong.
26 Sep 2025 10:41:23
Martin won't be sacked this year not just beacuse of the clause. Thelwell and Stewart have doubled down on their appointment and any sacking would put them and the owners footballing philosophy in doubt so aren't going to do it.
They seem to believe that constant change of manager is one of the root causes for where we are at. Whilst changing manager too often has been an issue the real route cause has been who they appoint and recruitment. They can't see it. it's a case of the Emporer's New Clothes.
Meanwhile we are building up more trouble as we will not make top 6 and europe next season, it will be too late to turn it around this season.
26 Sep 2025 10:44:52
If true, then it just shows how out of their depth the new board and owners are! They have massively underestimated the job here. Could we put RM on gardening leave until after the 6 months is up and then pay him off? I think for our and RM's sanity they need to remove RM from his post now!
26 Sep 2025 10:46:06
Honestly who is running this club?
So there is literally no incentive for a football manager basically these days.
Money is all that matters to them.
26 Sep 2025 10:53:49
My initial reaction was nonsense - then I looked up Amorim's contract at Man U.
Seems it is now a common clause for manager's who are coming in to clubs that are in need of a rebuild - which I can actually understand.
Could be worse, Man I apparently have to pay Amorim £12m if he's sacked in the first year.
26 Sep 2025 10:54:58
Disgraceful if so, and incomprehensible to say the least. Not the actions or standards I was led to believe we were to expect. He needs emptied but this kind of contract is amateur hour if true. I worry for our future if this is the way we are conducting our business. A strange clause for me.
26 Sep 2025 10:57:04
After his Press Conference post match I got the feeling that he knows his time is up but would prefer to be sacked than quit for financial reasons.
After EHL's post then I'm now positive that is the only reason he remains as Manager.
26 Sep 2025 11:12:21
If it's true it doesn't say much about martins confidence in his own ability.
26 Sep 2025 11:15:21
That is basically a good clause for Rangers . No one in their contract team would expect to get rid of him so quickly, after 6 months then the money is negligible
I suspect most contacts have 12 months or no time limits where we would end up paying what is left of the contract when sacked
Agree 3 months time limit would suit us just now. But it is what it is
Pay full contract and remove him or wait to Christmas as when we pay little, are we cash rich to pay him and his team off.
26 Sep 2025 11:16:48
If so we could put on garden leave for remainder of 6 months and be rid of then and bring new manager in just now.
26 Sep 2025 11:20:44
That has to be the dumbest clause I've heard of and thought with this new board, that such things would remain in the past. However we are the gift that keeps on giving.
If they are that stupid to agree to that, then after sacking Martin, they should be getting rid of the clowns that are in charge of running this circus. Honestly what a joke we are!
26 Sep 2025 11:22:27
I think someone mentioned review points and I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches those review points we could sack him for less. I could be completely wrong but I'm sure someone has mentioned that there will be a review meeting at the October break, maybe this is what they're holding out for?
26 Sep 2025 11:28:50
Give him gardening leave for a few months.
26 Sep 2025 11:30:16
Do we know the date his contract started? So we can organise the party for his 6 month anniversary!
26 Sep 2025 11:36:14
By the time 6 months are up going by last night they will have lost more than his contract in EU ticket sales.
26 Sep 2025 11:38:37
Gersgirl, I agree it would be money well spent anything to get him out.
26 Sep 2025 11:42:04
It would make sense if this was the case.
That would explain his confidence and arrogance.
26 Sep 2025 11:43:51
Thats pennies then to what we'll lose if we don't get rid now!
£500,000 lost last night in seat revenue alone plus the fact if we don't qualify how much is that worth?
3 more games to go and it will only get worse so there's £2m straight away!
Punt now!
26 Sep 2025 11:47:38
Stewart, Thelwell and Martin all must go NOW ?.
26 Sep 2025 11:48:18
Just can't see that being true.
26 Sep 2025 12:01:07
As EHL said, I genuinely believe that this will be a fairly common clause in contracts these days. Gone are the times when managers were given time to build a team at a club. It protects a manager if things don't go well immediately, he knows that he is protected against a quick sacking. Putting this into perspective, it could be seen as compensation for moving his family across the country/ world for a short period of time, unsettling the education of children etc. From a manger's viewpoint, and indeed from a business perspective, it makes sense but for the average football fan, it's a sickener.
26 Sep 2025 12:02:37
It would be worth sacrificing a January signing just to get rid of him if clause is true.
26 Sep 2025 12:04:05
Crazy situation if true.
26 Sep 2025 11:48:15
That is astounding that was even allowed to be in there in the first place. It's not like he was a sought after title winning manager that every one wanted. He should have been told to bolt on the first instance of that being mentioned. No wonder he is so smug about having the board's backing.
26 Sep 2025 12:21:31
I thought he's only on 500k a year so even if we have to pay the full 3 years that's 1.5 million which is a lot but if we wait until 6 months the damage could cost us a whole lot More.
26 Sep 2025 12:22:57
Let's be honest, they are going to lose more money on gate sales than his wages unless we sack him. Still think there should be a 100% boycott from all games till he is gone.
26 Sep 2025 11:55:45
Stewart and Thelwell must go asap if it's financial re Martin then sort it out quickly accept the error and bare it or fairly soon the punters won't go .
Btw the Diomande tackle was ridiculous.
26 Sep 2025 11:50:30
Couldn't he be put on 'Gardening Leave' in order to make a change?
26 Sep 2025 12:19:28
Put him on gardening leave until he can be sacked, plus make him clean players' boots and changing rooms.
26 Sep 2025 12:34:35
Doubt it would be as simple as this, but how about sticking him on gardening leave for the remaining 2 months. Then give him the 3 months compensation after the gardening leave is up.
Instead we'd only pay him 5 months salary instead of the remaining 2 and a half year contract in full?
26 Sep 2025 12:34:42
Didn't someone post a rumour on here in past weeks to say there was a teams call where such a clause was mentioned? Regardless, I'm leaning towards this being true sadly as the clauses in player contracts are limitless in this day and age, so can't see why managers will be different.
"We can't keep sacking managers" - If we didn't issue lifetime contracts to anyone that walked into Ibrox we could weed the place out a bit easier. Do we have no pull at all anymore that it's never on our terms?
26 Sep 2025 12:38:54
Tjm you are right, if this was the case then why can't they move him aside for 3 months or hire a position such as football co-ordinator that way his role isn't being made redundant. Or the scenario of him being head coach and we then hire a manager.
26 Sep 2025 12:42:05
Imo it's gross misconduct from Martin and Thelwell!
26 Sep 2025 12:46:17
In most walks of life if someone is hopeless at their profession, they get sacked with no compensation, yet mangers and players get a reward. Absolute disgrace!
26 Sep 2025 12:51:36
Can't compare Martin with Amorim at Man Utd . They had to agree to what he wanted to tempt him away mid season from Sporting where he was secure in his job and doing well. There was a risk for him moving to take over that team, so he was obviously covering himself.
Martin is different, he was an out of work, failed manager who apparently desperately wanted the Rangers job. Even those who wanted him must have had some misgivings given his previous failures everywhere he had been, so agreeing to that deal would be insanity.
If its true and we have to keep him until January then we should also be looking at how soon we can sack Thelwell and Stewart. We should be looking for their replacements as soon as possible too. I don't know what Stewart actually does, but anybody with any football knowledge could do a better job than Thelwell.
26 Sep 2025 12:54:16
Take the hit and move swiftly on. We have been in worse situations.
26 Sep 2025 13:14:31
This is what happens when as a club you have a recent history of being trigger happy in firing managers. After Martin we'll be on our 5th permanent manager in 3 years.
The clause is very smart business for the man in the hot seat. Any talented manager worth his salt will expect the same. Another reason I think we'll be scraping the bottom of the barrel with our next incumbent.
I expected him to get sacked after our upcoming turgid performance against Livingston, but now? I think he's here until January.
26 Sep 2025 13:19:57
I agree DoTheBouncy.
Was a completely new concept to me, but taking a step back it actually makes a lot of sense.
Could also explain why the contract took so long to sign as I'm sure details like these are negotiated to death.
26 Sep 2025 13:55:36
Total shambles if true
N totally honest
Not happy at all
Sll these promises n we are worse of than last season
9 million on striker that can't score or play on plastic
A manager that's hopeless
BLOODY JOKE.
26 Sep 2025 14:09:33
Don't believe that for a second so you can come in do rubbish at your job but you won't care anyway cause your getting a 3 year payout. You wouldn't be caring if you won or not.
