I have seen a lot saying we could have had Zlatan or Haaland up front and it wouldn't have made a difference.
I believe that is fundamentally wrong.
What players like that bring is a trusted exit strategy if needed to play 1 dimensional.
No Rangers striker offers that.
Morelos did offer that and that is why he was treated as better, he could occupy an entire defence by himself.

Banging goals in a daft pre season friendly is different from actual football matches. I hope if he starts on Saturday he scores a hat trick.
I just thought dessers last night would have been the better choice. But apparently you aren't allowed a different opinion from the manager in here.

I tend to agree Asa, on his game Morelos was outstanding. Even if he didn't score he kept the whole defence occupied and you knew we were going to win.
That said I thought Danilo put in a power of work pressing and tracking back. He is a good player I feel worth keeping.

Storm you are allowed to have an opinion but it doesn't mean it is right or wrong nor that the manager is wrong or right. just so happens his opinions are the ones which matter.
personally I would have played Dessers as he does keep a defence more occupied. Danilo kept coming short to be involved but his passes off tended to be straight back where they came from or defender got there before him. Hindsight is a great tool.

Angus having players with the qualities to hold the ball up and occupy defences provides an option to play long balls with confidence.
Currently that is not a viable exit strategy which is what causes the passing between defenders and not being able to get out of the defensive third.

Asthor agree players like that they do bring a confidence to go route 1. And Morelos was one of my fav players for that reason. But our manger demands the players play from the back he doesn't do Route 1 or direct playing style. So are the player ignoring Strategy, Formations and style from the manager? Because we have a Zlatan/ Morelos? Or are the going to continue to try and play from the back as they have been instructed? If they listen to the manager nothing changes as Danilo's service was non existent. Btw plenty of games pass the Buff by?

Asathor, Russell Martin has used the passing between defenders at every club he has managed. I talked about it before we signed him as manager and it was the reason, I did not want him.
His Southampton team lost goals week in and week out because of it and he never learned. It's how he sends the team out to play and to blame it on the forward line is just not the case. Strap in folks it's going to be a bumpy ride.

In my humble opinion, Danilo is a penalty box striker. He did a power of running last night however Dessers would have been more effective as he's more athletic and more powerful. i wish Dessers could have put that great chance away last night, if only for his confidence.

Brilliant post r1, he's playing danilo because he thinks he's the best man for the job at present, this could obviously change. One thing that won't change is us humping the ball up the park, r1 explains perfectly why.

If butland had saved that type of 1 v 1 it would be because he is jack butland. Other way round it was because it was Dessers. The guy will never get a break with some on here.

I see Danilo as a poacher, basically if he gets good enough service he will bury you. but it's down to the service.
