Rangers are in danger of losing Bailey Rice for free, with Aston Villa and Sunderland tracking the 19-year-old midfielder's progress, while West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City are preparing pre-contract offers for him in January amid no indication that the Ibrox club are discussing a new contract. (Daily Mail, print edition)

Feels like we've really missed a trick with this lad.

02 Dec 2025 08:47:50
He's done nothing to suggest that's the case. Doesn't look like he has the required attitude to make it at a big club.

02 Dec 2025 09:07:09
Don't think he'll be a massive loss, had high hopes for him but he's never really seemed to take any of the chances he got, Both Clement and Ferguson said he was a bit behind and Rohl hasn't used him once so can't really be showing much in training.

02 Dec 2025 09:32:27
Yo, Bailey Rice has stood still since he joined the Gers unfortunately ✌️??.

02 Dec 2025 09:39:43
Quite simply he has never shown enough to be a first team player. The lad has talent there is no doubt, but he never seems to push himself. Personally I would be looking at a new contract for him, get him out on loan to see what he can do at a decent level. However if he goes I won't lose any sleep.

02 Dec 2025 09:45:08
Sorry to say but he has never looked comfortable playing at first team level with any chance he has had. Good luck to him all the same.

02 Dec 2025 10:01:41
I don't think we have to be honest. Physically he just hasn't developed to where we need him to be. He just isn't ready for first team right now and I doubt he wants to stay in Scotland, he will have access to a higher standard of coaching and facilities down south, which is just the sad state of Scottish football.

02 Dec 2025 10:17:19
I think it's more us that wanted him to succeed than himself, probably better for the lad to move on. Had more chances than most but never came to much, will have seen the progression Lennon millar has had and want some of that.
Just another in the long line of not producing our own talent for the first team, it's a shame.

02 Dec 2025 11:36:00
Yo jumbo, lad wants away, not interested in a new contract

Ehl wrote an excellent post last season on how rice has not developed physically and that he would not be a first team regular.

02 Dec 2025 12:20:12
I think somebody on here has said that he knocked back a contract extension so that he would leave on a free. To be fair to the club both Clement and Ferguson tried to get him involved last season but apart from a wee cameo at Old Trafford a couple of seasons ago, he has never really impressed. This season he got injured in the Alloa game and has just picked up a bad one in training so that's why he has not featured this season.

I would like to see him sign and see if Rohl can get anything out of him when he's fit, however if he feels he needs to leave then he won't be a great loss. I still say Lowry was more talented and where has he ended up?

02 Dec 2025 14:26:56
We need better.
A huge amount of players need to go.

02 Dec 2025 14:38:16
Rice came in with a huge hype but has done nothing to justify it! I can't recall à game where he had shown that he'll be a loss.

02 Dec 2025 15:40:02
My feeling with rice isn't about ability it's about athleticism he looks slow moving around the pitch, brilliant at youth level because technically he was miles ahead of everyone.
There will be far technically worse players than rice that have better careers.

02 Dec 2025 19:28:50
He was outstanding for national team right through the levels and a stand out in games for club. Miles ahead of Miller who he played with. Hindsight and all that but Bailey should have stayed at Motherwell and racked up early first team minutes.

His development has been stifled at Rangers and I hope he can kick on and fulfill his potential when he moves on. He's lost his way and his swagger.

02 Dec 2025 20:15:20
Scotty you may be right but first team football may not have helped him at all. 4lads at the start of this season also spoken about how Rice constantly pick up injuries, That he didn't quite have the Athleticism to play in the centre of the park and he doesn't have the build to play CB. this happens all the time its happened to much better players than Rice.

Rangers can't help his physical development.

02 Dec 2025 22:17:51
The lads only 19 for petes sake. Yes OK he's not developed as we may have hoped but how many 19 Yr olds are regulars at clubs like ours especially without any reserve football to play. Would prefer him to sign a new deal then go on loan for a couple of seasons and see how he cuts it. Give the lad a chance.

02 Dec 2025 22:55:53
This is all on Rangers failure to develop their youngsters, call it poor coaching, bad management. Never really given Bailey Rice much motivation/chance especially when our midfield is currently dire.

Players need played which usually gives them confidence, get match fit and move forward/get better with game time.

Another player ruined by Rangers, and numerous managers/head coaches.

03 Dec 2025 08:18:05
Bailey Rice was an outstanding 8 at youth level, who the club tried to develop into a 6 as it became apparent that he wouldn't be able to develop physically in to an 8 at first team level.

Like so many of our young players, one of the biggest reasons for the stagnation of his development is the lack of experienced professionals in his role to learn from.

This was the same issue with McAusland, who's understanding of the game and role increased ten fold when Cerny signed.

03 Dec 2025 08:35:56
if he was good enough he would be playing. which manager would keep a talent out of the team simply because he was a youngster?

03 Dec 2025 12:40:13
I'd bring back McAusland in January if we could, even if Antman wasn't injured, he is far more of a threat and a team player on the right wing and his 6 months abroad should have helped him.

03 Dec 2025 18:12:29
Why are our youth not 'buddied' with 1st team players for mentoring EHL?

Seems like a no brainer considering the youth set up here.

03 Dec 2025 18:47:11
GDog, because we seriously lack players with the quality to and personalities to do it.

For example before Cerny, what other right winger did we have that could genuinely mentor a young McCausland?

Balogun was excellent with Nsiala, and Dessers equally as good with Igamane - however who in our current squad would you identify as a seasoned pro who can mentor young players?
