They can if correct protocol has not been followed.

A company can refuse your resignation. In doing so it backs the resignee into a corner where they either stay or walk with latter option meaning they may be in breach of contract leading to all sorts of litigation etc.

Depends on how the resignation was offered and how the rejection was delivered. Also depends if it's true in the first place. Just passing on what I've heard onto a rumours site.

John, appreciate what you're sayingas always. Just going by what I've heard, could be as simple as he offered to leave before he's sacked if he felt he was next and Cavanagh has told him that's not the case. Doesn't necessarily mean he "wants" to leave.
I've no desire to keep him, would be quite happy for him to offer and it be accepted ?.
