Since Fry has been the set play coach at Lincoln, 33 goals have came from set plays out of 62 goals scored for Lincoln, I just read that.

Very good stats, only three off them penalties, I hope he can also improve how we defend set plays.
17 Nov 2025 16:47:17
Only conceded 3 from 92 corners faced this season John. Almost a goal per 31 corners faced. Pretty good if you ask me.
17 Nov 2025 16:59:51
Aye but Ayrshire they might have defenders that can defend as well.
17 Nov 2025 17:05:29
Losing goals from corners has been a problem for Rangers for ages, hopefully he improves things Ayrshire.
17 Nov 2025 17:08:07
Ayrshire imo that is good figures. More often than not we concede a goal a game from set plays.
If we could also reduce balls being crossed into the box from open play it helps us.

Have any posters on here got a second team?. Here's my story. I was born in Maryhill so I was lifted over the turnstile at Firhill so supported the Harry Wraggs till I moved to crookston. I loved the Real Madrid and Spurs all white strip.
Then I liked the AC Milan black and red strip cause that was my old school strip. ( Govan high). I want Arsenal to do well (Arterta). my grandson lives in Newcastle so:. When I found out why Man City play in sky blue, that was me hooked.

Very good Ayrshire.

What's my name, always Rangers, then I would follow Man Utd, laterally I have watched English championship club and two epl clubs for my own reasons, I might add a new club in the summer.
Growing up I loved Bayern Munich
I also love watching our academy and loan players if near Ayrshire, Glasgow.

I watch Lincoln a lot and they really do impress at set pieces. Hopefully Scott Fry can bring this to Rangers. I will try to publish a graph of just how dominant the Imps have been at set pieces once I figure out how.
17 Nov 2025 17:40:20
The last time I checked, less than 15% of our goals conceded came directly from a set piece.
17 Nov 2025 17:42:35
Lincoln have the best stats in the EFL for set pieces. I have tried to post a graph in the sightings page, if I have managed to do it correctly.
17 Nov 2025 17:48:36
Lincoln would like seeing that mate, good hearing that from someone that watches them ?.

John I've felt that has been an Achilles heel for us for years, Ridvan in certain games when fit was ok and Sterling when fit if he played at full back, apart from that struggling to think of a full back in recent times that really got tight to his wide man, that was never a strong point in their game for Tav and Barisic.
17 Nov 2025 18:53:58
Ehl. One of the things I've been on aboit for 2-3 years or more is that it's not the direct set piece or the direct cross we concede from it's the follow ups. So defedmissed ball in the air and either direct goal as u say 15:% but the follow ups are Stil a problem from set pieces.
Not defending set pieces cross balls and long balls has been a major problem for us for 3 years.

Lincoln City is known for its innovative and highly successful set-piece strategy, which has made it one of the most potent teams in the English Football League (EFL) from dead-ball situations.
The club utilizes advanced techniques, including AI assistance, to develop its set-piece routines and has seen remarkable results, scoring a high number of goals from corners, free-kicks, and throw-ins.
Scott Fry serves as the dedicated set-piece coach, a role he took on in addition to his goalkeeping duties at the start of the 2024/25 season.
Key aspects of their set-piece strategy
AI integration: Lincoln City has partnered with an AI company to analyze data and assist in creating set-piece plays, which officials believe is responsible for a significant increase in their effectiveness.
Dedicated coaching: Scott Fry, the goalkeeping coach, took on the full responsibility of overseeing all set-pieces in 2024, a role for which he has been highly praised.
High-level performance: The team's success is quantified by its league-leading goal tally from set pieces in the 2024/25 season.
Strategic importance: Set pieces are a regular point of purpose and have been crucial in many of the team's narrow victories.
Consistent practice: The team dedicates significant time to practicing set-piece delivery, sometimes three or four times a week, to maintain a high level of performance.

But we should ignore the guys record, he's another guy who Thelwell knew so its jobs for the boys and a bad appointment ( sarcasm intended).

Tried posting in sightings My Star.
Lincoln are definitely punching above their weight in what is a very tough league. They have had quite a few narrow victories where a set piece hayd been the difference and they currently sit in second place which considering their budget against some of the bigger teams is pretty good.
They obviously do a lot a analytics on their opponents and target their weaknesses which of course every team should do but they still have to implement the tactics which can only come with time on the training ground which I'm sure EHL will agree.
Check out Reeco Hacketts goal against Bolton earlier this season, Bolton play a very high line and this was a great example of having done research and practising the tactics.
17 Nov 2025 19:46:11
We need to get some height into the team.
17 Nov 2025 22:45:18
Ehl how do u define directly from a set plays, ie is it only one touch after corner or free kick is taken.
18 Nov 2025 03:01:30
That would be my take John. Basically the set play being the assist and the next player to touch it is the scorer whether it's 1 touch or 3 asking as it's only 1 player who's touched it that's the "direct".
My take on it anyway.
