Few media outlets now reporting that whole is considering giving tav a contract extension.
14 Nov 2025 13:35:12
Danny, Danny whole.
14 Nov 2025 13:46:06
Let the madness begin.
It's a no/ yes/ mabye fae me
Can't say I sit on the fence.
If we don't bring in two, he's getting another year.
14 Nov 2025 13:55:48
Gulp?.
14 Nov 2025 13:59:07
Just checked on every news outlet that I use, and also Googled his name with contract extension. Nothing at all saying that he has been, or is likely to be, offered an extension to his current deal.
14 Nov 2025 14:15:11
The squad is devoid of leaders, not a bad idea to keep him around as a squad player if he's willing. People argued that for Balogun so it seems logical in my eyes. He seems quite settled.
14 Nov 2025 14:19:46
Aye to clean the lavvies ??.
14 Nov 2025 15:06:00
At the £37k pw that would be another terrible decision. I really can't see him being extended and really hope he isn't.
14 Nov 2025 15:09:40
No is the answer - or we will end up in a bigger Whole ?.
14 Nov 2025 15:14:18
Tav will move south next season after retiring his shirt and captaincy.
14 Nov 2025 16:41:00
Would be 37k if he renewed, prefer he moved on.
14 Nov 2025 17:22:25
OK, but he needs stripped of the captaincy, on a drastically reduced wage, who will be back up only, and replaced by a player good enough to make the RB position his own. If not all criteria is met, then he needs to go.
14 Nov 2025 16:20:43
Danny wonder whole. Typos are a great thing davie ? on the extension for el capitano am torn. Maybe not as captain but still think tav is a useful player interms of penalty conversion.
14 Nov 2025 18:20:02
I wrote last week his agent was talking to Rangers two year deal.
14 Nov 2025 18:45:01
Before last summers disastrous window I would have said no to giving Tav a new contract but after seeing the squad ripped apart to the extent he is the only person at the club to have won anything and the fact that we have made no headway in replacing him, I would say it makes sense to give him another year, probably on a reduced wage, if he wants to stay.
His numbers are dropping but he is our top scorer domestically this season and has played three different positions, two stats that show how bad the rest are. Currently he's not the problem.
14 Nov 2025 18:45:57
Would he be on a lower wage John?
14 Nov 2025 19:17:06
Would def keep him for another year on reduced terms. Bring in his replacement and have both for a year.
14 Nov 2025 20:34:26
The absolute lack of respect shown towards James Tavernier is disgraceful. If had played in the Souness, Advocat, Mcleish or Smith era he would be lauded over the years. That being said if he is to renew he needs vastly reduced wages and a rotational playing role given his age now.
14 Nov 2025 20:46:09
Surely not, he's getting on a bit now.
14 Nov 2025 21:57:33
Absolute ridiculous offering him a new deal. It's madness.
14 Nov 2025 22:11:56
Drastic wage drop and yes he stays.
14 Nov 2025 22:51:35
Drop of at least 25k, squad player, if he's not happy with that, he can go and find his next club and wished all the best.
15 Nov 2025 00:43:40
Fork that comment was unnecessary regarding Tav cleaning the toilets, he has been a superb servant to our club……people have short memories.
15 Nov 2025 06:09:05
Great servant to the club but no longer justifies the wage he is on and his physical capability is on a downward trajectory so feel it is his time to go to pastures new to see out the remainder of his career.
15 Nov 2025 07:10:58
No it wasn't, not a fan of sarcastic humour, he was in the past good, he's not anymore hasn't been for a while, been going downhill for a while, squad player if he stays, nothing else.
15 Nov 2025 07:12:56
Correct Borders, sentimentality nothing more.
15 Nov 2025 07:27:35
Really don't see him getting an extension. He should be thanked for his contribution, given his testimonial and part ways. Sadly his contribution has dropped massively since the run to the Europa final.
15 Nov 2025 08:37:50
You seen the state of our toilets Fork?
15 Nov 2025 09:15:35
Get shot. Require better.
15 Nov 2025 09:29:55
I'm sorry Fork, but you were out of order. Hang your head! ??.
15 Nov 2025 10:05:04
Lol really??.
15 Nov 2025 11:04:29
When we acquire a right back who can
a) play 15 games without injury, and
b) perform better than Tav
we should let Tav go. However, all attempts to replace him thus far have failed, miserably. If fit, Sterling could be that player but he's not fit. The alternative options are not near good enough.
He's at the end of his Rangers career but we need a better, robust replacement prior to throwing him on the retirement pile.
15 Nov 2025 11:20:22
He is our top scorer this season too.
15 Nov 2025 11:58:53
Agreed EG. How many RBs has Tav seen come and go? They have either been injured or not as good. In addition, he is still one of our best technical players in terms of ball control. The 'need better' idea is great but I would say 7 or 8 other positions are in greater need of 'better'.
We will do well to employ someone who is 'as good'. Yes, time is catching up with him and any new contract should be on a more realistic salary. He would not have been out of place in any of our successful teams in the past.
15 Nov 2025 12:09:39
That just proves how woeful we have been Blue Yonder!
15 Nov 2025 12:14:16
Joint with Gassama on 6.
15 Nov 2025 12:29:25
We tried replacing him this year, and look how that went. Premier league experienced player. We should have signed Mulligan when he was on a free, but we ****ed that. Its a yes from me until we can guarantee an upgrade.
15 Nov 2025 12:36:01
Tavs contract should be renewed at about 10-15k.
15 Nov 2025 12:50:54
Good idea keeping Tav on a much lower wage. Say 15k per week and a back up right back role. Can also cover if we play back 3z
I'm all for this.
15 Nov 2025 13:18:06
I think tav is still of the quality he could go to the mls last 2 years and get 20-25k I believe he will go down that road.
15 Nov 2025 13:38:26
I agree it would be a good idea to get somebody better than Tav but let's get this guy, whoever he is, first and then let him go.
We needed better than Propper and look what we got, Djiga and Fernandez. We needed better than Dessers and we got Miovski and Chermiti. We were talking about getting rid of Tav when we signed Aarons and that's not exactly worked out.
Tav is currently our best option at right back and we should not get rid of him until we are sure we have a decent replacement. We don't even have an obvious replacement as captain never mind right back.
15 Nov 2025 17:32:30
Tavs been an excellent servant to to our club
But honest opinion he's past his best n a squad player at best
We need a new captain n a new direction
As much as I love him
He's not the captain to take us forward
But still a good experienced head to have around.
16 Nov 2025 12:49:32
we could use Rothwell for free kicks etc, but those in row Z would be in danger as would their cars in the car park.
16 Nov 2025 13:44:48
Who would you make captain then?
16 Nov 2025 21:34:58
Surely when Tav signed his last deal with us he knew that was his last 'big' contract one way or another at his age. If he wants to stay I can't see a pay cut being an issue.
