Something I've noticed since last season. Which is starting to get us into trouble is how deep Butland is in his box when we have possession.

Any time the ball goes back to him he's practically in the 6yrd box,

Last week against Falkirk, there was a moment when Djiga passed it back to Butland and he wasn't ready for it. It looked awful and Falkirk should have scored. Folk around me were blaming Djiga but it was 100% Butlands fault as he wasn't ready too deep and not ready to receive the ball.

He should always be ready and he needs to play further forward so he can intercept ball over the top, instead of having to make last ditch attempts.

Take the Anderson tackle last night. He rushed out to make that challenge and it was made just outside the box? That should have been his starting position,

Rohl was screaming at the defence all game to push up the pitch.

As captain I'd have expected Butland to do the same, but he wasn't. He's always been way more comfortable with his defence sitting deep.

The way we set up at corners also, not sure what we are trying to do when we are defending corners.

Half the players not even looking where ball is, to busy trying to push players about.
If no awareness how can you defend properly.

Agree about Butland's starting position being too deep. Couple of times last night Killie played a through ball which should have been his but because he was so deep defender had to play it out.

Butland is a decent keeper. Rangers have always had excellent keepers. McGregor, the goalie, Kloss, Woods etc. Unfortunately Butland doesn't come into that category.

Butland height may be the reason he doesn't come out too far.

He's only 6ft I believe, same as me so not short but for modern keeper it's very short.

Butlands 6 ft 5 stevie, he's a big fecker.

6ft 5 for jack Butland.

Just to put the record straight that incident against Falkirk was caused by a short pass back, nothing else. Last nights incident was caused by a very short pass back by Barron which Butland had to react to. Blaming the keeper when pass backs are so obviously short is nonsense. Outfield players need to stop playing the ball to the keeper for him to do what they should be doing.

Also to clarify, yes we have had some excellent keepers since Chris Woods then Goram, Klos and McGregor but we haven't ALWAYS had excellent keepers, we've had lots worse than Jack Butland. His shot stopping has saved us on numerous occasions this season.

Butland is a big goalie but makes himself look small, StevieG because he doesn't control his box. He's a great shot stopper and has saved us many times but he's not a good communicator and with playing out from the back is so common now it's a big weakness.
