28 Jan 2019 23:07:40
From what I've seen the last few games I think the preferred midfielder should be McRorrie, Jack and Davis. I think Davis and Arfield are quite similar but Davis is more composed and better on the ball.

I don't think dropping McRorrie and playing Jack in the deeper role has worked and therefore I would like to see Arfield in direct competition with Davis and possibly Candeias for a starting place.

29 Jan 2019 00:14:50
Arfield was colossus against the manks . no one could have played better are you forgetting that.

29 Jan 2019 00:16:58
zikos, a fit Davis is a far superior player to Arfield and you just can't drop Candeias, on of our top performers. The team against Livy was our best team barring Goldson, until Davis is fit enough to replace Arfield.

29 Jan 2019 06:43:40
Away u Arfield is a must to start younger fresher hungrier unless Davis proves otherwise its Arfield all the way.

29 Jan 2019 07:50:59
For me it’s Ryan Jack whobis mist under threat from Davis, however if he keeps up his good form then Davis will have to wait. Good to have players chomping at the bit to come in in all positions though!

29 Jan 2019 11:36:20
Davis is better on the ball than Arfield, but Arfield is far better at pressing the ball and getting in peoples faces. It’s a hard one but a good headache to have.

29 Jan 2019 13:12:17
Ryan jack has been superb. Not sure what games some people are watching.

29 Jan 2019 15:41:39
The thing nowadays you can't just have your best 11 players. It is the squad that counts and who plays and in which formation depends on the opposition. Candeias and Kent were very good against Livingston. I think Davis and Defoe will have to prove fitness before starting games, but don't forget injuries and suspensions will happen again before the end of the season so strength in depth is important. Is the game against the Blue Brazil on TV tomorrow night?

29 Jan 2019 15:44:47
Listen we need the squad, Morelos two league bookings away from three game ban
Also Arfield and mccrorie close to bans re totting up.

29 Jan 2019 18:08:35
Molsgoals I take your point about the mhank game - he was outstanding, as was the entire team. And siding with some of the replies maybe it will be horses for courses, Where when we need a high press, high tempo game it will be Arfield. And when we need a bit of guile and creativity it will be Davis.

It is a good headache to have.

One thing I must say though is how happy I am with the way McRorrie has been playing. If anyone reads my posts I have said for a long time that the boy has the ability to be a top player, but I thought he lacked heart.

Far too many games last season I saw him going missing in games, from a position on the pitch where it is difficult to hide. I genuinely didn't think he would make it at Ibrox for that reason, but I'm glad he is proving me wrong!

28 Jan 2019 20:50:47
Like a good few of our supporters, i'd like us to bring livingston captain craig halkett back to ibrox! We can secure him now on a pre contract, as his deal with livingston, runs out,
in the summer. He's a very strong, physical centre half with a bit of pace! He's good in the challenge and good in the air. He reminds me a little bit of our former centre half, who's now at hibs, darren mcgregor. At the time i felt we should never have allowed darren mcgregor to leave rangers! Both halkett and mcgregor have similar centre half attributes, but i think halkett will go on to be a better centre half than darren mcgregor! Thoughts fellow bears?

28 Jan 2019 21:13:46
If he reminds you of anything like darren mcgregor🙃, then he shouldn't be near us👍. Having said that, he is nothing like mcgregor and I think on a freebie he is a no brainer. 👍.

28 Jan 2019 21:40:47
Supercoop, was he playing yesterday?

28 Jan 2019 22:06:54
Behave 😂😂😂.

29 Jan 2019 00:11:08
If you believe those two are anywhere near our standard then you are severely deluded! We bumped the pair of them for a reason and now they're at their level! No fan in their right mind would even contemplate going for Champions League football with this pair at the back - or even one of them! Time to get your head out of the mire of mediocrity mate!

29 Jan 2019 00:15:29
Coldo, McGregor was our player of the season and Warburtons biggest mistake was letting him go . selective memories methinks.

29 Jan 2019 00:39:57
He was player of the season in a very poor team, hardly a reason molsgoals to shout about selective memory. He has been mediocre at hibs and was never the standard of player required at rangers. As for warbs mistake, yip he should have kept mcgregor instead of buying kiernan, again you don't have to be good to be better than kiernan. 👍.

29 Jan 2019 15:45:07
Our defence has improved on last year, work still to be done though
Last year we conceded 50 league goals, to date we have conceded 18 in 23 games. Unlikely we will concede more than say 15 in next 15 so a good reduction.
Yes I know we have conceded late goals, bad goals due to shocking defending bout we are improving.

We all talk about attacking mid, a number ten but for next season we need at lest one top defender, my info is SG wants cooper.
I think we have only conceded more than one goal twice against Scottish opposition i. e. Motherwell and killie.
So let's tighten further at the back,

30 Jan 2019 10:04:43
Will take £4m to get Cooper, excellent prospect.

28 Jan 2019 20:23:35
Ed could you run a poll for me, regarding steven davis mate? there's supporters on here who think davo will have a place in our midfield and supporters who don't! I would like my poll to be-what will be steven davis's midfield position, within our midfield, ie. deep lying playmaker, central midfielder, attacking midfielder, or not in our midfield? Thanks ED, much appreciated pal!

steven davis position poll

28 Jan 2019 21:09:16
Davis won't be in the team until he gets match fit, then he will play the role that arfield does only if he proves the better option. Gerrard would be foolish if he sets a midfield up without jack and mccrorie. Another pointless poll in my opinion👍.

28 Jan 2019 22:57:45
Totally agree Coldo!

28 Jan 2019 18:29:06
Think we're all in agreement that Katic was immense yesterday, kept in simple, no pissing about like some who think their Maldini, however is anyone confident that once Goldson is fit, it'll revert to Katic and Goldson? I'm not, Katic will be the first one dropped when Goldson is back fit.

28 Jan 2019 20:13:08
If katic and goldson don't start and if we don't play the 433 / 451 with mccrorie and jack in the middle then gerrard hasn't learnt from his mistakes👍.

28 Jan 2019 20:18:52
I hope not! He keeps it simple and does the job he's meant to do. If stories are true, and I've no reason to doubt them, the big guy had a lot to deal with off the pitch. He's only a young guy and he needs support to get his confidence back. I thought he was fantastic yesterday and he does not deserve to be dropped.

28 Jan 2019 15:52:45
Think some mention needs to go to McGregor
He stood about all day freezing his bollox off, and pulled of another worldy in the last 5 minutes.
We cannot take this guy for granted.
There was more singing for Halliday!

28 Jan 2019 16:32:31
still think shagger was the best signing of gerrards so far no harm too fodringham but without shagger we wouldn't of been in europa league and a few points less in the league the guy is pure class.

28 Jan 2019 15:38:00
After hearing about the charade happening with Hibs, resulting in Neil Lennon being suspended and Kamberi clearing out his locker, I feel Kamberi will be looking for another club. after seeing his form at the start of the season scoring a hat-trick on his Hibs debut I feel he would be a good addition to Rangers and is already proven to be a goalscorer in Scotland, I feel he would be a good squad rotation player as the likes of Defoe has came to a more physical league and may struggle with the aggressive physicality of football in Scotland.

Not to mention with him clearing his locker, the board would be happy to offload him for buttons in order to free up the wages.

Is he worth the gamble?
Should we be looking at bringing him in?

I rate him as a player and due to that situation we could land him on the cheap.

What do you other bears think about this?

28 Jan 2019 16:49:01
Lennon had a pop at him for being lazy! His team mates have also had some choice words about his attitude.

I’d rather we stayed away.

28 Jan 2019 16:56:23
If the snowflake can't take some criticism no way.

28 Jan 2019 17:33:47
Are we forgetting that Hibs do not and will not sell to us.

28 Jan 2019 18:26:13
only issue with your idea is the reason he packed his locker was lennon, who is now binned (love it) . does that not mean Kamberi stays now and all is sorted?

28 Jan 2019 15:12:19
Did anyone see greetin' face Stewart on Sportscene? It was painful to watch him give grudging praise then he rambled on about Livingston most of the time. Pathetic muppet!

28 Jan 2019 15:30:38
Never watched it but I seen Levein owned him in a press conference last week!

28 Jan 2019 18:59:20
Stop watching BBC and stop mention that 🛎🔚 name - only way to make them irrelevant.

28 Jan 2019 20:14:41
Levein owned him good and proper😂👍.

28 Jan 2019 14:29:37
Any chance of a quick poll Ed. Super cooper will love this.
Who do the fans rate better between Jack and McRorie?
I personally don't think McRorie gets the praise he deserves. If he was a foreigner that age everyone would be raving about him. I feel he wins more tackles than Jack and gets the ball forward faster than Jack does, not to say Jack doesn't have his strengths.

{Ed033's Note -

Jack or McCrorie Poll

28 Jan 2019 14:49:18
I'd say Jack at the moment but Ross is going to be some player.

28 Jan 2019 14:50:26
Mccrorie is a top player and will only get better. He has to start with jack every week, these two dominate the midfield. I think they both compliment each other and without each other they would not be as effective. Pointless poll in my opinion. 👍.

28 Jan 2019 15:00:32
They are different types of player, McCrorie is has been terrific in his last 2 starts, he covers the full backs going forward, is athletic and his passing is improving, I really rate the lad. Jack for me is steady eddy, nothing special but rarely loses possession and is happy to do the ugly stuff in the game, the fact he has added an attacking threat in the last few games is a credit to the man.

28 Jan 2019 15:16:21
Even now steven davis is a class above any midfielder, currently at ibrox.

28 Jan 2019 15:16:31
The whole team looked more solid yesterday, midfield worked well, mcrorie always gives his all and the stats when he's in the team speak for themselves. I hate that plastic pitch and it looked like trying to control the ball on it actually slowed us down in promising positions a few times. kent and the candyman give us welcome width and alfredo never stops working. I hope mr gerrard doesn't do too much tinkering with that set up.

28 Jan 2019 16:08:43
Scottydog, agree team looked much stronger yesterday. Clearly poor decision by SG last time out to include Davis and Defoe in starting 11. Bringing back McCorie, Katic and Candeias made us much stronger and competitive.

28 Jan 2019 16:27:39
SuperCoop, other than blind faith or nostalgia there is no basis for your claim that Davis as good as you clearly believe. No way is he the best midfielder at Ibrox. Big opportunity for him and Defoe to demolish Cowdenbeath this week and prove they have what it takes. Currently the team is weaker and lacks balance when they play.

28 Jan 2019 17:07:15
Super cooper

What are you basing that on about Davis? He has hardly played all season and hasn’t played 2 full games yet. Looks like your comparing Davis of the past and not the present.

28 Jan 2019 17:38:06
Steve Davis 7 yrs ago and Steve Davis today are very different. Yesterday proved that. That team with the exception of Goldson for Worrall should be our starting eleven. I think Morelos prefers to play as the lone striker, it just didn't work at Killie with him and Defoe and he has to be our no1 striker.

28 Jan 2019 19:13:20
To both Arthur D and bankie! Steven davis is a better midfielder now, than the one that left rangers over 6 years ago. I'm basing my opinion on davis as he's been outstanding for northern ireland,
even though his game time at southampton of late, has been limited! Just wait and see guys. Once davis gets match fit he'll be superb for us! The guy is still imo, a class act! Bankie you don't think davis is the best midfielder at ibrox mate. I ask you who it is then?

28 Jan 2019 19:18:29
I also think that steven davis, once up to match fitness, will be a deep lying playmaker for us! This will be his position in our midfield, going forward and will suit him to a tee with him now in his mid 30's! He'll be absolute quality sitting in that deep, playmaking position for us! The guy is still class IMO!

28 Jan 2019 21:42:54
Supercoop, our best midfielder is Ryan Jack. Based on recent form McCrorie also right up there. Davis has great opportunity to provie his quality and stake a claim in SC fixture Wednesday.

29 Jan 2019 00:08:35
McCrorie is a very good player who doe a lot of dirty work, he has a big future.

29 Jan 2019 00:10:37
Super is correct, Davis better player than one that left us, also best midfield player at Rangers.

29 Jan 2019 08:13:38
Jboy21. Hopefully tomorrow night Davis (and Defoe) demonstrate how good they are and stake claim for place in first 11.

29 Jan 2019 15:47:45
Bankie, they need games. Will come into their own as season progresses and will be great additions next season.

28 Jan 2019 13:43:21
I am keen to know other fans thoughts on this. There has been a lot of chat as to formations, how do we fit Davis, Defoe etc into our line up. For me it is fairly simple, Aside from our tougher matches ( Celtic or away to other top 5 sides) we should never be going with 2 defensive midfielders. I think there is only space in our starting line up for Jack OR McCrorie and for me young McCrorie is the future of our club and offers far greater protection to our shaky centre backs than Jack does. I think Davis should come in for Jack and maintain the 3 in the middle . I also believe that Defoe should be used primarily as a sub possibly getting the odd run out from the start in cup games and the odd home game against the lower end of the table. I think he still needs to prove his fitness and only if he manages to do this should we be looking at different formations to accommodate him in our starting line up. I also think, like most others on here, it is time to get a settled centre back pairing and for me this has to be Katic and Goldson. If we can get the formations etc right I still believe we have a wee chance this season.

28 Jan 2019 14:17:30
My view is that to play a diamond midfield that allows two strikers then it’s kent and Candeias that have to go. McCrorie at the bottom with Jack and Davis in the middle and Arfield at the top. If we play a flat 4-4-2 then Kent and Candeias remain and 2 of the 4 central players have to go and if it’s our usual formation then Defoe plus one of the centre mid’s that need to make way. These are good problems to have and injuries will occur that will affect the decision process. We also have formation to switch to now if things aren’t working rather than just throwing on Lafferty like earlier in the season. I’m hopeful we’ll get another player in before Thursday and have been dying for a number 10 but this would probably just complicate the team selection even more. I also think Dorrans can get us goals from the no.10 position once he’s fit. With that in mind maybe another winger on loan before the window shuts?

28 Jan 2019 14:51:18
Candeias and Kent at the moment must play if fit imo.

28 Jan 2019 15:03:38
Jack McCrorie Davis

Should be the 3 swapping Davis and Arfield about.

28 Jan 2019 15:03:45
The team that pumped celtic, katic in for worral, is the team that should be starting. Possibly barasic for halliday. 👍.

28 Jan 2019 18:20:27
I'd like to see McCrorie, Jack, Arfield with Davis in behind Defoe and Morelos. Plenty of legs in the middle and Davis to find the killer passes. For me we either play two wingers or this should be the shape depending on opposition.

Defoe Morelos

Davis
Jack McCrorie Arfield

Barisic Katic Goldson Tavernier

McGregor

Barisic and Tav giving us width when in this setup.

28 Jan 2019 11:21:17
After watching Greg Docherty at the weekend I only have one thing to say. GET HIM BACK UP THE ROAD ASAP, Stevie G. With Steven Davis as a creative midfielder and Greg Docherty as an attacking midfielder, Morelos and Defoe as strikers the goals will start to flow freely. ONWARDS AND UPWARDS THE FAMOUS.

28 Jan 2019 12:41:30
Whos dropping out for Docherty? Leave him where he is he won't start every week here hence why he is out onloan. Also davis and defoe are currently miles off the pace and nowhere near match fit.

28 Jan 2019 11:14:36
Very happy with the result yesterday although I thought we could have started at a better tempo. I think it would be wrong to write off the 4-4-2 at this stage down to a tight defeat at Kilmarnock where defensive mistakes were made. It’s important that teams do not know exactly how we are going to play and if all individuals perform to the best of their ability then we should be able to adapt our formation when required to beat suit who we are playing. Too many players lost their personal battles against Killie and we lost deservedly. For Wednesday I’d rest Morelos as we don’t want the situation again whereby he picks up a silly booking and misses a match in a later round (hopefully the final) i’d also bring Middleton back in for Kent and probably get Davis into the midfield for an hour. We need a comfortable win and another on Saturday hopefully.

28 Jan 2019 10:19:25
Again yesterday Jack and Arfield were plodders and should be dropped for a few games.
Thankfully Gers won the game but the team was laboured carrying these two passengers.

28 Jan 2019 11:16:15
What game were you watching dadoprs0? Jack scored, arfield had an assist and again jack arfield and mccrorie dominated the midfield👍.

28 Jan 2019 11:20:43
Where is that disagree button when you need it.

28 Jan 2019 11:30:25
And who are you wanting to bring into the middle of the park? Coulibaly has been awful and rossiter away to go out on loan.

28 Jan 2019 11:53:26
I disagree Dado. I thought Jack was excellent again, Arfield not so great. I'd love to know when Dorrans will be back in contention to play and also does anyone if Hardie is staying with us or going back out on loan?

28 Jan 2019 12:43:02
Doiger hardie is already back at livi.

28 Jan 2019 13:11:27
1. Arfield sets up Jack - 1st goal
2. Arfield's shot, attempt by Alfredo, goal by Kent
3. Arfield's through ball for 3rd

Love these plodders me.

29 Jan 2019 00:03:09
Some guys on here never happy, Arfield contributed well on a terrible pitch.
Folk don't like long ball SG said that's how we will play on plastic, going long.
Least we only have two more games on plastic in league, killie and Hamilton.

28 Jan 2019 09:44:56
I've looked at the February, March league fixtures and the away games for the top 4 are:

Rangers: Aberdeen, Hamilton, Hibs, Celtic
Celtic: St Johnstone, Kilmarnock, Hearts, Dundee
Kilmarnock: Dundee, Livingston, St Mirren, Rangers
Aberdeen: Hibs, St Mirren, St Johnstone, Hearts

Who has the toughest run of away games? I think we do and Kilmarnock the easiest, apart from when they come to Ibrox. This isn't just a two-horse race!

28 Jan 2019 07:08:22
If we are to sell Tav we should use the money and make Kent's move permanent. The kid is only going to get better and for me he is one of the first name on the team sheet.

We will obviously have to sign a quality RB as Tav is very creative and we will miss his attacking support.

28 Jan 2019 08:41:41
We could survive without Tavernier but I don’t know how we would replace Morelos. I definitely think he will go in the summer. Watching the 2 games on Wednesday and yesterday I just don’t know we’re defoe fits in other than a sub.

28 Jan 2019 09:29:50
Stevie g. just come out and said it’s all paper talk no contact from Southampton about tav so rather believe him than daily rag.

28 Jan 2019 11:46:07
I understand the value of a player is what another club is willing to pay, but would anyone on this site be happy if Rangers paid £8 mill for Tav? Only my view, but he’s never an £8mill player, hope all this talk is true and he goes for that, what a good bit of business that would be. Would the bread man get a bonus for bringing him to Rangers 😝 😂 😆.

28 Jan 2019 13:30:41
Ulsterman,

This is only EPL valuation and their wads of cash. Maybe to them he's worth 8m but up here he's a 2m player. At mo he's playing brilliant but not long ago everyone on here had him down as a downright plodder. I say take the cash for Tav and Fredo which seems almost done deal anyway. Allow SG to buy quality striker and someone who can create. I don't agree with many SD fans that creative as his forte. We do need another creative No. 10.Lets wait and see.

28 Jan 2019 06:43:36
Atleast now with a fairly comfortable win yesterday we can now put to bed all this nonsense of what is best formation for us. We must utilise the wingers. can't play a flat 442 v st mirren at home poss but against likes of livi aberdeen celtic killie etc. We must play with 1 up top and that man is Morelos, don't care how much defoe gets a week he doesn't fit in the system. he's number 2 striker its as simple as that.

28 Jan 2019 10:45:21
Tend to agree with most of your comments Paul.
However as Morelos is going to be in more and more demand and his value increases, can't see us being able to hold on to him for the long term.

Anyone heard or know if we are looking for a permanent replacement for him? .

28 Jan 2019 11:16:42
Bluebilly yes he will be away in the summer 100%. Sure they had the lad feom charlton on the radar? Unsure tho. Not going to be an easy replacement anyway that's for sure.

29 Jan 2019 00:11:12
Morelos is away if someone meets our valuation. He is contracted to 2022. If he finishes top scorer in Scotland and keeps up his assists we will make plenty
Like all players he can be replaced.

28 Jan 2019 01:33:12
Really hope Stevie G begins to stick with the solid spine of McGregor, Goldson (when fit) Katic, McRorie and Morelos.
Jack has been playing well but I don't think we need two defensive minded midfielders against teams of lower quality. It's becoming clear to see that Tav needs Candeias in front of him.
Onwards and upwards 🔴⚪️🔵.

28 Jan 2019 07:13:28
Jack abd McCrorie both have to play imo. The system works well when both are in the team. Heard Commons put McGregor, Christie and Armstrong (all Mhanks and ex mhanks btw) ahead of Jack in the Scotland set up. I don't agree, i think Ryan Jack should be a mainstay for both club and country. Aa coops says, he is a future Rangers captain.

28 Jan 2019 11:19:07
Yip jack mccrorie are starters, its either arfield or davis to start with them👍.
