I don’t know why everyone’s comparing dykes to Morelos? Let’s compare dykes to Stewart or Kamberi as dykes will be here to improve the ‘SQUAD’, in that sense I’m all for dykes, it’s a ‘no brainer ‘.

05 Jun 2020 10:35:56
Adding guys as squad players was the issue last season. We were told quality over quantity and then signed the likes of Barker and Stewart. Any signings need to be first team quality and push out players currently occupying a jersey into the bench as the back ups. Otherwise we are just going to trend water and have the same chat this time next year (along with who is the new manager going to be)

05 Jun 2020 12:55:21
Stewart was okay and could've played more (replacing ojo) last season.
Barker? **** knows what was going on there.

05 Jun 2020 14:40:53
Mr grumpy a nark Allen f up.

05 Jun 2020 15:42:53
Ojo🤦‍♂️👍.

04 Jun 2020 20:34:07
With names like dykes and cosgrove people are talking about why don't we go all out and sign david platt from coronation street I hear he is out of contract soon honestly guys its pathetic and you want to win a league? its laughable.

04 Jun 2020 20:58:15
Or Ralph Little from The Royal Family!

04 Jun 2020 21:35:22
Let me remind some of our supporters on here. Where did leigh griffiths begin his career? Players from scotland no matter what position we're talking about can/ do go on to be very good players, nobody knows how good a lyndon dykes, lawrence shankland etc, could be! It ain't always about big transfer fees and foreign imports that guarantee you class players. God both old firm clubs over the years have bought foreign imports they thought would be terrific players and turned out to be terrible.

04 Jun 2020 22:04:53
cannot see a £30m player choosing the famous for free. I could be wrong.

04 Jun 2020 22:07:43
Sgl I think some fans sometimes prefer the thought of a player with a fancy name from a foreign league to a more local player! I’m not saying that the foreign players with fancy names are Not worth a chance but some folk would rather take a chance on these guys as opposed to guys like dykes, Shankland etc.

04 Jun 2020 22:34:27
It would be a bit of disappointment too a lot of rangers fans if Morelos was sold and replaced with either dykes or shankland.
I don't mind either player, just don't think we can win the league with either one of them as our main striker.

04 Jun 2020 22:44:34
Neil McCann, Ian Ferguson, Steven Naismith, John Brown, Billy Dodds, Davie Robertson, Kevin Thomson, Alan McClaren, Derek McInnes, Nacho Novo and hundreds more through the years. All bought from Scottish clubs but who ended up champions.

It's more about picking a core of boys who know the Scottish game and then adding that bit of quality and SG moulding them into a team. A little disrespectful to mock Dykes, Ferguson, Shankland, Naismith, etc it can be done. Walter 2nd time and big Eck took on Celtic sides who spent more and had arguably better players but somehow they found a way to win and they both had that core of players who knew what the Scottish game was all about.

04 Jun 2020 22:55:36
Take Naishame of from that list mate.

04 Jun 2020 23:27:35
what we are talking about is not taking a chance with Morelos as we know what he is capable of. i am not saying that we can't take anyone from Scottish teams but they would be 2nd choice for most positions for what we have currently. IMO there is noone in Scotland better than Morelos.

05 Jun 2020 08:39:53
Think we should just take a punt on shankland. Might take some time to find his feet but knows where the goal is.

05 Jun 2020 08:54:17
Bgate i think lyndon dykes is quite a fancy name.

05 Jun 2020 11:15:46
The difference is we can't afford to be gambling on one of those mentioned to be leading the line as our main striker this year.
Half of you on here go off your nut at a 30+ goal striker when he gets suspended. I hate to see one of the names above mentioned not hit the ground running. All off a sudden it would be everyone else's fault from SG's to the scouting system!

05 Jun 2020 12:13:25
We need to keep Morelos for one more season and get him to help us win the league title. I've no problem signing someone like Shankland to add to the pool of strikers, along with Defoe and perhaps one other. Gerrard also must sort out the best defensive line-up and stop tinkering with his selections. I'm pleased Hagi is there in our midfield and he'll prove to be a very good buy indeed in my view. Plus Jack, Kent and Arfield, that's not a bad midfield.

05 Jun 2020 14:00:32
As i stated yesterday i hope we can keep morelos for another year, my thoughts are however he'll be sold.
If he were to stay and again i did say this yesterday, that would be us have morelos, defoe, i'd sign dykes and either taylor or shankland and wouldn't sign kamberi permanently.

04 Jun 2020 20:03:53
I would love to know what ranger fans feel about the state of Scottish football aside of what went on between us and official who couldn't run a piss up in a brewery never mind a league in football. It's obvious to me even if they didn't stop the league when they did and we got too close to winning it they would have found someway to award it to Celtic and that to me is not going Change as long as Neil Doncaster remains in charge he has to go for the sake of the game.

04 Jun 2020 22:48:57
Again it’s percentages, I’d say the number of homegrown talent we bought that turned out to be terrible has a higher percentage of failure than ‘foreign imports ‘, if we had the best foreign import team v the best SPL homegrown talent team I know who my money would be on, let’s take rangers for example, klos, Ricksen, Amoruso, Cueller, numan, Gaza, laudrup, albertz, van bronckhurst, hately, Morelos, just to throw one together, that’s befor we mention, Larrson, Virgil van dyke, dembele etc from the mhanks, together the imports would defeat any combined ‘ homegrown talent in my opinion, so shhhh 🤫 were a small country that should be exposing the market as much as possible until real footballers appear in our homegrown talent box, whose Scotland produced that's great in the last ten years? Robertson? Then we’re struggling but all our youths are superstars in the making? Nah I don’t buy that but I’d buy a well scouted foreign import that fills the other 10 spaces from Robertson we would need to make a great homegrown talent team from the last decade.

Gordon Banks

{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new manager profile about, Gordon Banks

04 Jun 2020 17:43:46
RE _ The reason I said Tav was great in the air is because he is used as an outball for us many times in a game. Our center half normal Goldson frequently plays a long 60/ 70 yard pass to Tav up the right wing. Tav almost always wins that header against his oppo and we get the second ball and normally can build an attack from that high up the pitch. When Aribo was put in that position we struggled to win the first ball let alone the second and found ourselves under attack. Tav is very good in the air against someone of similar size. I've also seen him brush of plenty of players.

04 Jun 2020 19:51:24
TJBB, Well done mate, you've found something that Tav is good at. He's certainly not captain material but I suppose Gerrard will stick with him again!

04 Jun 2020 23:30:30
when Tav was out weren't we all shouting how much we missed him, . i agree he isn't captain material but he certainly offers more than is being suggested.

05 Jun 2020 12:59:47
Goldson plays a 60/ 70 yard pass to Tav Tell me how many times he does that without putting the ball out of play Goldsons ability at passing a Football is seriously gash, My opinion. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇦🇺⚽️😎👍.

05 Jun 2020 17:20:47
Cunny in oz, no bother mate your opinion. I've missed one single game and Goldsons long range passing is almost always bang on.

04 Jun 2020 17:02:57
You just know reconstruction is coming SPFL. Basically asking "what's it going to take? " So much for the no strings Attached benefactor!
I'm almost beyond words if this Goes ahead the whole thing stinks and if Doncaster brokers this it proves everything we've said about background deals
Rangers cannot be party to this, clubs credibility is on the line I appreciate Hearts backed us but this just stinks if they can buy a place at the top table by this alleged no stings deal.

04 Jun 2020 20:03:34
Hearts did not back us BBS.

04 Jun 2020 20:28:15
Blue sea, yes the whole thing does stink, as long as Doncaster is in control. He thinks ending the season so that he can pay out the funds will save the smaller clubs. So, if this chap who has funded Hearts in the past and is now going to contribute 4 million to Scottish football ( with no strings attached) , then why can't we continue to play out the leagues like other countries are going to do? Why can this happen? Rangers can still win the league and Hearts may save being relegated. Is this decision made so Doncaster can obtain his bonus sooner than later?

04 Jun 2020 14:51:29
Okay here's the thing about Dykes. Premier league only excluding European and cups. Morelos played 26 scored 12. Dykes played 25 scored 9. So not a lot in it. Considering that Dykes plays in a lessor team who are less likely to create goal scoring opportunities it's quite good by comparison. Rangers scored 64 goals so Morelos has a 40% share of goals scored. Livingston scored 41 goals so Dykes has a 60% share of goals scored, which is a high proportion of the teams goals, making him a very significant players for the team. Now supposing he was playing for a team who naturally create more goal scoring chances, how many would the lad bag. Not to mention he is young, developing, with potential, and could be bough cheap with a good resale value in the future. Now are you still convinced he is not worth a punt?

04 Jun 2020 15:06:12
He’s definitely worth a punt for me he is a good option.

04 Jun 2020 15:16:46
ok look at the other stats, how many teams sat in against Livi as opposed to how many sit in against Rangers. Show then that stat and tell us who fairs better.

04 Jun 2020 15:52:21
One stat missing is goals converted to chances created
Cant think of many games where Livi would have over 20 shots on goal just to score 1 (maybe)
Another, how many did livi score from corners, Rangers on the other hand are horrendous at set pieces.

04 Jun 2020 16:36:45
1 half decent season look at the rest of his career.

04 Jun 2020 16:56:06
If you want to look at stats here's some more.
Morelos=
46 games, 29 goals, 10 assists this season.
Last season?
48 games, 30 goals, 11 assists.
I really don't mind dykes but comparing the lad to Morelos? 🤔.

04 Jun 2020 18:04:28
Paul 86 he's developing so try and forget the smokescreen of what he was doing goal wise up to signing with livingston! He'll only get better and better and i've never had any doubt that he'd be a terrific signing for us! Tell me and anyone else for that matter what big dykes isn't good at and what he doesn't have? I don't see any weakness in this big striker whatsoever. He'd be an absolute bargain into the bargain, pardon the pun!

04 Jun 2020 18:07:26
The ability is there though paul 86.
Big dykes would improve tenfold with better players around him and our management team developing him into the complete machine of a striker he's without doubt capable of being.
This big guy can be unplayable and unbeatable in the air, not to forget he's very quick!

04 Jun 2020 18:26:15
How about a consistent goalscorer coop? Don't get me wrong I don't think he's a bad player, just maybe not the potential 'worldie' you think he is/ could be😁.

04 Jun 2020 18:33:04
Dykes wouldn’t cost too much and is an option we currently don’t have. Add to the fact he rag dolled Julien earlier this season and I think he could do a job for us. Also noticed Hartley of Motherwell said how much he hated playing against him. I thought he gave us plenty of problems also.

04 Jun 2020 19:20:59
So if dykes is. good enough why is everyone turning there noses up at shankland? Who most definitely outscore dykes. I would have shankland over dykes all day long.

04 Jun 2020 19:23:32
Mrgrumpy no word from me being a worldie but IMO in scottish football playing for rangers big dykes would destroy centre halfs. Horses for courses again mate. There's games in europe for instance where another type of striker maybe the better option. Within games against scottish opposition however, imo big dykes would be terrific for us. He offers something much more different up top, to which we already have, that's all i'm stipulating pal!

04 Jun 2020 19:39:43
I was only joking coop! Really wouldn't mind him signing but only as a backup.

04 Jun 2020 21:42:24
I’ve said before I would sign Dykes for a plan B. Would like us to sign somebody like Charlie Austin but I know wages would be a big problem.

04 Jun 2020 21:44:22
SGL, your obviously happy with us getting the runners up prize again next season if your wanting Dykes. What's that statement all about - he would be cheap? Is this what you want Rangers to do, scrape about the bargain basement? For goodness sake, we need to aim higher, we need to win the league. We can't just tick over, we need to overtake Celtic in all accounts.

04 Jun 2020 23:08:15
Guys, we keep seeing the phrase, 'Buy this player and that player as a back up. Are we really that good at present, I said in another post a while back, if Alfie stays, he will have to shape up quickly, because for 3 months this year he was a waste of a jersey in some games, as were a few others. Steven Gerrard will get this sorted, but, he also has to learn quickly on restart to change games in the 90 minutes if it isn't working, Plan A isn't good enough as it stands.

05 Jun 2020 07:46:46
Coops are you calling the boy Dykes a horse?

04 Jun 2020 11:57:04
Can we afford Dykes, Cosgrove and Shankland as 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice - we know that we need backup in the striking department and bring in a proven striker from down south?

04 Jun 2020 12:08:02
We could spend money more wisely in other positions like a quality ch to start with.

04 Jun 2020 12:36:17
So that makes Defoe 5th choice on huge wages 😳😂😂😂😂
Holy feck, and we want to win the league next season by getting rid of a striker who consistently scores goals for us and demote the other to 5th choice to bring in 2 battering rams and an unproven at the level we need to be at. 🤔.

04 Jun 2020 12:40:28
Dykes and cosgrove too alike! It would be dykes all day long for me between the two.

04 Jun 2020 13:52:45
Tupac? Defoe is 37.

04 Jun 2020 14:24:59
True blue, again I raise issue, your talking bout bringing in 2,3 and even 4th choice strikers at significant cost without one word bout Mebude or Yates. These guys must be worse than they were initially touted as.

04 Jun 2020 10:26:37
I think it's pretty clear that Morelos wants to move on. We all know the saying about hindsight but we should have sold him in January when his price was high and before his loss of form and this C.V.. One thing he's poor at is his aerial ability and it's got nothing to do with height. We need an old fashioned number 9 and I'd like to see Morelos go for the best price we can get on today's market and buy Lyndon Dykes, not as a squad player a straight 9. Great in the air, great first touch and doesn't accumulate yellow and red cards for fun.

04 Jun 2020 10:32:54
Dykes as our number 1 striker? 😂😂😂.

04 Jun 2020 10:36:45
Dykes as number 1 striker. Deary me. His scoring record is nothing to shout about. My mate played in same team as him in New Zealand and even then never out and out goalscorer. Chances are he would get as many red cards as alfredo.

04 Jun 2020 10:55:59
Has anyone heard alfie say he wants to leave?
Or is it media guff as per.

04 Jun 2020 10:56:17
Lyndon Dykes would be a very good signing for us and we better move fast for him, as there's a good few clubs in england interested in signing him.

04 Jun 2020 10:58:26
Not skilful enough for me, more of a bulldozer, who doesn't score many goals and playing for the Rangers would pick up rubbishloads of cards, which he gets away with at Livi.

04 Jun 2020 11:53:32
Dykes should be bought as number 3 striker definitely not the main one!

04 Jun 2020 12:04:31
I would take dykes definitely but lot of Centre forwards out of contract in a few weeks, some carry unwanted baggage, some may be out our reach but I will throw a few names out there. Artem Dzyuba (let me dream guys) andy carrol🙄, steven fletcher (tim), alvaro Negredo, vedad ibisevic, okazaki, Jordan rhodes.

04 Jun 2020 12:09:27
I think dykes would be a decent signing.

04 Jun 2020 12:31:11
I don't think OP mentioned Dykes as first choice. The opposite in fact.
However everyone seems to forget Defoe, is he going to sit behind Shankland?
I think (if Morelos goes) we should look overseas. Dykes, Defoe and 2 overseas players (I've suggested names on prev threads) and use the best on the day.

04 Jun 2020 12:53:04
Why we all so keen for a 30 goal a season striker morellos to go?

04 Jun 2020 13:08:05
Re-read his post bluegenius👍
He sees Dykes as an old fashioned number 9 and would like us to play that way. If that's not Dykes as our number 1 striker then what does it mean? 🤔.

04 Jun 2020 13:17:02
Morelos has stated he wants to go to the EPL. He wanted to go in January and threw the toys out the pram when that didn't happen. We cannot trust him knowing he could do the same next season so best to take what we can get and use the money on players we can rely on - hopefully of a better calibre than Cosgrove or Dykes.

04 Jun 2020 13:39:14
Kfraser I take it you didn’t see Morelos goals against Feyenoord? I used to think that he had a head like a 50 pence piece too but after seeing some of his goals like the 2 against Feyenoord you can see that he’s worked on his heading in training.

04 Jun 2020 13:41:45
He threw the dummy out wow just wow. look at the injuries we had at the start of the new year, the whole team was playing crap. Morelos gets frustrated when not scoring, that's his only issues.

Fans on here need get real, who else out there will score you 30-40 goals, why are we so keen on getting rid of our biggest asset when now is not the time to sell at knock down prices.

Saying too much of a risk incase he throws the dummy, is taking in Dykes any less risk. We know Morelos can score for us, do we know anyone else can.

04 Jun 2020 14:18:35
We were still too good for players that actually banged in goals in the SPFL like moult, higdon etc years ago. Why would we be in a place now where a player with a ratio of 1 in 3 is a starter? Just a big lump of a centre forward. Let him go to England, he might forge a decent career in league one.

04 Jun 2020 15:18:03
Some of you still harping on about Morelos wanting to jump ship. The lad stated clearly at the start of his Rangers career that his dream was to play in the EPL. He has been with us for nearly 3 seasons, I would hardly call that jumping ship. GET OF THE GUY'S BACK FOR F@CK SAKE.

04 Jun 2020 16:07:33
To be honest don't think he threw the toys out the pram he was getting a lot of greef from then media on and off the pitch, he had a guy under his car all while his wife was pregnant and mother back home was sick the boys head was probably all over the place, no wonder he piled a few pounds on and didn't look up for it.

04 Jun 2020 16:07:46
Bob, Andy Carroll only on a pay as you play basis Steven Fletcher not for me.

04 Jun 2020 16:59:15
I know Fletcher isn't everyone's cup of tea but I think he'd score goals for us up here.

04 Jun 2020 17:07:57
Get the cheque book out and sign Morelos on a great deal to keep him for at least two more years. Why not keep Kamberi and give him a try too and Defoe is worth another season or two in Scotland even as super-sub. I don't like the thought of Dykes, Cosgrove or Shankland though the last-named could be good back-up to the main strikers. Thing is, big-money transfers may be put on ice for quite some time because of the C.V. so perhaps all teams have to cut their cloth. For me, Morelos, Defoe, Kamberi and Shankland wouldn't be a bad strike force.

04 Jun 2020 18:16:48
DOIGER you make some good points mate but for different styled games within the scottish league, i really do think we need a completely different style of striker to be signed. How about morelos (if he stays), Defoe, dykes, shankland/ taylor?

04 Jun 2020 08:43:22
I always advocated that the season should have been declared null and void, which is almost what the powers that be in Scotland did, just handing the title to the unwashed.

Leagues in England are restarting and have already restarted in Germany. If the SPL season had been restarted and Celtic went on to win the title, I would have had no complaints but the SPL/ SFA took a strange option indeed.

This should inspire Gerrard and his players for the new season to ensure Rangers are back at the top again, at last. On another note, has anyone read Into the Bear Pit by Craig Whyte? I'm reading it right now. It comes over that both he and Murray were strange people indeed!

04 Jun 2020 09:56:42
Inspire them Doiger, its just as likely to demotivate them seeing what can actually happen in this country that has been turned into a backwater. On Tuesday I watched Danish football and yesterday German second division football. How can they afford to restart but we cannot? Why don't we use the Hearts guys money to restart the league and if Hearts go down then they go down via results. This farce has nothing to do with relegation, money, safety or whatever it is to do with a deal with Adidas that might have fell through had the league not been called.
Take the guys £4mil and use it to finish the league or is this "unconditional" "no strings" payment actually conditional with strings?

04 Jun 2020 10:39:08
I thought it was £2 million split between the 42 clubs - hardly a pot of gold?
Each club gets approximately £47000, a tenth of what Doncaster gets to make a shambles of running the SPFL every year.

04 Jun 2020 11:51:59
Why would Adidas deal fall through for Celtic if they couldn't play the last 9 games of their previous deal.

04 Jun 2020 12:11:34
Doiger I won’t read whites books let alone buy them as I think he’s skimmed enough money! Furthermore how can you believe anything that’s in it?

04 Jun 2020 12:17:22
It wouldn't huey, it might have fell through if the tims HAD to play the last 9 games because the new deal is due to start on July 1st and they would (potentially) still be contracted to finish the season with their old shirt makers. Either way they would not want to rock the boat and jeopardise the deal. In the current climate I don't think it would take much for Adidas to reconsider the outlay and look for a way out.

04 Jun 2020 12:48:57
Jyf I can't see your point of view here. Your take is adidas would have pulled the plug on their deal because the league would run over and give them a get out clause. Wouldn't be the same for all team with new strip deals us included. What are Adidas paying them £25—30m over a 5 year deal that's peanuts to a billion £ company. Castore had to borrow £7.5m to break into the football market and have paid us £5m up front. So those 9 games with Hummel gear on would not make them think twice but Adidas would.

04 Jun 2020 13:19:57
Wouldn't believe a single thing Whyte or Murray says. Hopefully you didn't pay for the book Doiger.

04 Jun 2020 13:33:15
Yes IOM adidas are not in the financial position you might think they are and I didn't say that they would pull the plug on the deal, I have no way of knowing that, but what I have said is that the tims would not want to rock the boat and by not being able, contractually, to start the deal on July 1st is rocking the boat. I may be wrong IOM but the whole think makes no sense and there is definitely more to why they were so keen to end the season so early and did not want an inquiry, in fact liewell made an impassioned plea to all the other clubs to STOP an inquiry. Our contract with Castore IS different IOM, it would not have started until after our deal with hummel was over, when ever that was.

04 Jun 2020 14:19:26
Jyf, Like you I’ve been saying the Adidas deal was a driving factor for endless nag the league. New Balance deal was for 5 seasons and was due to run out May-June 2020 with Adidas kicking in beginning July 2020.

If the league was played out during July/ August it could have created a potential problem that Celtic wouldn’t want due to the overlap.

This way, they get the best of both worlds- awarded the league and a clean start to Adidas deal.

04 Jun 2020 14:28:46
Iom u r right re all deals would have been an issue not a reason to walk away from a 25 million deal.
Bigger problem for Adidas is German government still refuses to give the 750 million loan the say that required to keep going through CV.

04 Jun 2020 14:32:28
I didn't know you were already saying this hewhohearsvoices, I have done my own digging and come to the same conclusion. Adidas are currently losing a fortune and have applied to the German government for loans. If the season ran on past July 1st then there definitely would have been some contractual renegotiations required, I'm not for a minute saying they would walk away or even that the contract would have been devalued but I doubt certain people would have wanted to take that chance.

04 Jun 2020 17:02:31
JYF, you say our deal with Castore would not start until our deal with Hummel is over, we signed a 3 year deal with hummel. We only done 2 years, i know the court said we had to end the deal due to Ashley, but have we negotiated a deal with hummel.

04 Jun 2020 19:28:41
Hummel/ elite owe us £2.8million Isle of mull 1!The hummel/ elite deal is finito pal, its castore who are our new kit manufacturers/ retail partners. Hummel are already a distant memory.

04 Jun 2020 19:42:45
Do a wee bit of research IOM.

05 Jun 2020 02:49:21
If you sign a 3 year deal and only complete 2 years of it due to a court order, is that not leaving someone open to claim.

04 Jun 2020 08:37:25
I would love to spend on a rock hard dominant CB. Not a squad player, a 30 year, old been there done it (well) and ready to go. Headlander looks potentially the best of our lot but not sure potential is where we need to be right now. I'm of the same opinion up front, too small too light. If SG were of the same opinion, I'm guessing the front man would be the gamble buy.

Who can we see as the CB loan or buy and who up front would you like to see come on and get stuck into the 5 at the back mobs?

04 Jun 2020 19:09:02
bimottablue, where do you get the idea that a 27 year old Swedish international is 'potential'? He was bought to play then suffered a bad injury and when fully fit he will be our main defender. As for a striker, all this talk of steamrollers like Dykes and Cosgrove don't do it for me, neither does Shankland, who nobody inside Ibrox believes will ever be good enough to enhance our team. That means, apart from Morelos, who will be here next season and rightly so, the next striker to come in is known only to the club's management and I hoope it's someone two levels higher than those already mentioned. I also think we will spend money on a midfield enforcer, possibly from another country and not Ferguson.
