Morning all,
Chris Jack and Rangers Review reporting this morning that Rangers are finalising deal for Muscat to become new Head Coach. Looks like the saga is (hopefully) about to come to an end with a manager that most of us will be able to get on board with from the get-go.

Let's hope Muscat can convince the club to start bringing in some quality East Asian players. There are so many talented players in Japan and South Korea – who can be signed for relatively low fees – yet we continue to ignore those markets.

I think he'll succeed as long as Thelwell is gone.

Think the Asian market is a bit of a lottery, if you look across the city then only 3 players signed from Asian leagues have been a success out of 7/ 8 signings? Strike rate is pretty low. Granted, the 3 who have been successful have made a huge contribution for them.

Not over the moon with this call, but it is what is it.

Japan and South Korean have some talent but Chinese league is very poor. Best players are mostly the Brazilian mercenaries. Other teams also tried the market after Celtic to very little success. It all stinks of just trying to follow Ange.

Never got that correct lol ?, what it is.

That's a fair point, SounessesMowzer, but the fees involved make it low risk, in my opinion. We usually focus on the English market which means we often have to pay over the odds for mediocre players because the player values down there are overinflated.

He is my first choice, but that goes for nothing. He could be a hit or a miss. Time will tell.

It's not popular, however the industry benchmark for successful signings is around 40%.
When you look at the spend banding within that measure we'd typically be looking at just over a third of our transfers being successful.
So although Celtics venture in to the Asian market appeared to have been sensational - it was actually pretty average.
The good news is, that when you spend over £10m that increases to about 50% - so there's a 1 in 2 chance of Chermiti being a success.
16 Oct 2025 08:18:46
Celtic signed about 12 players from asia since ange came in, 3 have been a success.
16 Oct 2025 08:22:51
Kaisercaillaud, why should we limit our options just because we're fearful of looking like we're copying them?
16 Oct 2025 08:31:22
I think Chermiti will be a success. Supply him, hell score once he's settled.
16 Oct 2025 08:59:13
Tend to agree Colonel?.
16 Oct 2025 08:59:49
I think it was Arsene Wenger that said three out of five signings don't work out.
16 Oct 2025 09:33:48
Requiem I'm not wanting to limit options, I'm looking for better and not being blinded by a one off success. A bit like after Mourinho everyone went daft for Portuguese football and ended up with AVB instead, just that this is at a far inferior level.

Totally agree Walters Guitar i think we will be fine in the attacking areas with plenty goals. Just the defence need sorting.
16 Oct 2025 12:23:16
Signings will still be from England until Thelwell and son and Purdy are gone, as he himself said its the only market he knows.
16 Oct 2025 12:29:41
My star think you got it right first time. I've been thinking 'what is it ' all week and I still don't know.
My worry at the moment is that Muscat might slide tackle or elbow a linesman, could he bring in big Dunc to calm him down? Anyway think he will be fine and not talk pish like Russell.

Chinese league is awash with money, huge market still reasonable and should be watched closely I think they have much better than Peterborough or Luton town level.
