Can I just say, when Beale was sacked, we said we needed to give the new manager time and backing.
When Clement was sacked, we said the same thing: "give the new manager time and our backing. "
When R. Martin came in, everyone said, "he's not our first choice, but we need to give him time and support. "
Now, as we wait for the next manager to be announced, we're already saying again, "we need to give the new manager time. "
At what point do we stop? Should we have stuck with GVB, Beale, Clement, or Martin? Or will we stop at the next one, or maybe the one after that?
We're all guilty of saying one thing and doing another when results start to go wrong.
We can all promise to back the next manager and give him time but reality is if the results don't improve, will we actually do it? Give him tine give him baking?

Martin was certainly backed anyway there's not doubt about it. and he had far far longer than he should have got.
12 Oct 2025 15:55:25
Simple answer - it won't stop. We've been so starved of any success over the last 13 years, no manager will get time. Fans were wanting Gerard sacked in the year the league was stopped due to covid after the loss to Hamilton at Ibrox.
12 Oct 2025 15:55:46
Stig my friend I would never ask people to back a manager regardless of results but some are refusing to back a manager before they are even in office.
Unfortunate as it is for some I think people need to come to terms with the fact Gerrard said NO.
On a more important note I hope you are feeling a little better about your own struggles my friend.
I wish you the very best in your exams.
Apologies for my ignorance what is your line of work.
12 Oct 2025 15:55:53
Ask Beale he was on last night???.
12 Oct 2025 16:03:06
Stig, your post got completely lost in the frenzy of the Gerrard posts last night, but can I say I hope you get this new role and the extra money it brings.
12 Oct 2025 16:06:39
It's alright saying we need to give them time but when it's simply not working we also need to realise it is ok to sack a manager. Would you rather be in Man Utd's position of knowing your manager will be there for the next 3 seasons no matter what. Imagine we were told after Falkirk he's getting 3 years no matter what. We need a manager to come in and win things and if they don't then they need to go. Rangers aren't a project club they are a win now at all costs club. That won't change.
12 Oct 2025 16:12:03
Sorry mate, there's no such thing as time, he needs to hit the ground running. If that's not realistic then don't take the job, this isn't a project it's an institution.
I'm sorry Thelwell wearing us and wasted the cash but the Americans seem happy with this strategy.
It's going to get pretty nasty towards them in the very near future.
We will have more managers than France have prime ministers.
12 Oct 2025 16:14:09
Think the only manager i've actively called to be sacked was gio, which is bonkers in hindsight. Scottish cup, europa league final and champions league qualification.
it mast have been really bad domestically and when i think back on it it feels like we were getting pumped by Celtic every game bar the scottish cup semi final.
don't think i felt too strongly on the removal of beale or clement other than hoping it ends the toxic atmosphere at ibrox. I quite liked clement as a person and a manager.
i was willing to give martin a lot more time than most, but many called it right from the start. The plzen game gave me something to hold on to but maybe as many said on here plzen were just really bad that evening ?.
12 Oct 2025 16:14:13
You don't get time at Rangers end of.
12 Oct 2025 16:15:29
I'm all for giving managers/ head coach time but we have to see the team improving, and playing certain style of football even in defeat. Even with Russell Martin the football at times was horrendous, so here is hoping the 49ers get the right man in place that can implement attractive, attacking football.
12 Oct 2025 16:16:42
Stingo, I say it but do know it isn't happening mate, just does my head in now, just like it has for the last few years.
12 Oct 2025 16:23:06
We are a mess right now stig and we can't go back and give other managers time but we can the next one. Our defence still needs a complete revamp so whoever comes in gets next summers window at the bare minimum for me.
12 Oct 2025 16:26:34
All have had their pros and cons
Gio in Europe will give us memories I don't think will be replicated ik a long time domestically didn't do good enough, albeit ange's Celtic team were flying.
Beale has a great win% but giving him the final say on singing players was a disaster.
Clement didn't have us playing good football and the lack of squad depth caught up to him then he lost the plot towards the end.
So pick your man of choice, me personally would have given gio more time.
12 Oct 2025 16:27:27
Stig, you're right but Martin was an absolute balls up and now I think we're running out of time to salvage anything from this season. Whoever comes in has gone one helluva job on his hands. All I can say is good luck him.
12 Oct 2025 16:31:35
Vegan baking stig.
12 Oct 2025 16:35:43
Think the bit you're missing in this post Stig is time is given when evidence of progress is there.
Gerrard was given time when he wasn't winning trophies due to evidence of progress. There was a number of fans calling for his head after the loss to Hamilton but the board hung in and we won 55.
Clement was cracking under the pressure a bit towards the end and could have lost his job sooner but again he made progress after the mess of Beale and won a cup.
GVB was given time despite losing a lead in the league due to his performance in Europe and winning us a cup.
RM showed zero progression, closer to regr. Hence being sacked after 4 months.
12 Oct 2025 16:36:26
My honest opinion, GVB yes, the others no.
12 Oct 2025 16:54:23
Stig - the next manager will be a head coach and he gets no time.
He will be hired to work with the players who are already there and he needs to get them firing from day 1.
We don't have the the luxury to allow the 5th incumbent in 3 years the time to build his own team, implement his own philosophy etc, etc.
In the structure the 49ers have chosen to implement, he's a hired hand working with players he's told to work with.
He will be judged on his results from day 1.
12 Oct 2025 16:55:38
Stig, the problem as I see it is that we haven't recently employed a manager who can put a team on the park to beat the smaller clubs in the SPL. each year we have a multi-million budget, we sign full international players who when play against Dundee, Falkirk, St Mirren etc look as if they don't know how to cope with the speed and physicality of the game. Is it really so difficult for a 3/ 4/ 5 million pound player to turn it on against some of these teams in the SPL. Until we have a manager who can identify the type of player we need we will always struggle in the SPL.
12 Oct 2025 17:47:18
When Rangers fans wanted gvb sacked without taking it into consideration his crippled squad, that was enough for me with a big majority of fans, I'm not talking posters on here I'm just taking about Rangers fans in general.
12 Oct 2025 18:05:20
The toxicity level has raised massively in recent years.
12 Oct 2025 18:08:32
I do get it with the lack of success, but the level it has now reached needs calmed way down before any that success constantly returns.
