The 1 in 9 crew think Gerrard should have won the league his first season with that squad and budget, now that's embarrassing. ?

1 in 9 is a fact BB4 a sobering and unlikable fact. But a fact none the less.
I will be respectful and answer your question though.
No I did not expect to win the league first season.
I did expect to win more than just 1 trophy in 3 seasons.
I believe that is a fair answer to your fair question.
08 Oct 2025 23:43:12
I'm expecting a double with that squad Boy blue ?. Say it again, this 1 in 9 is tims patter too me.
08 Oct 2025 23:49:42
Gerrard got more respect for the way he ripped up the league, had Celtic in his pocket, undefeated season, 13 goals conceded in 38 games, that record will not be beaten imho.
09 Oct 2025 00:51:07
Should've won the lot with Dalcio!
He had about 3 good players. That was always going to take 2 seasons minimum against a Celtic team that was crushing at the time. Main thing he done was showed clear improvement over time.
Some of the football we were playing by the time the team was in full flow was brilliant. I'll never forget the goal against Galatasaray. If Barcelona did that everyone would've been raving about it.
Here's the team Gerrard left us with
Greegsy
Tav
Goldson
Balogun
Barsisic
Davis
Kamara
Arfield
Aribo
Kent
Morelos.

Asa, when Gerrard stopped the ten in a row had he had money for transfers I think he would have stayed &. Won us a lot more trophies.
09 Oct 2025 02:18:44
I think another important thing that has not been mentioned is that this was his first ever job in management in senior football. If you asked me 6 months ago if i wanted him as our manager then my answer would have been no, fast forward to today then my mind has been changed and he will get us back up and running to where we should be. "LETS GO"
09 Oct 2025 03:07:03
That sqaud finished 9 points behind Celtic the next season he spent even more money, and lost most of that sqaud you speak of we then went on to be 4-6 points I believe ( someone correct me if I'm wrong ) at Xmas and lost the league by 13 points. We made one cup final out of 6 he faced Celtic once in that period. He spent the best part of 40 million had players on staggering wages and was the main reason we almost went down the swanny again. Not to forget refusing to sell players at their peak. The Hamilton accies plural games at ibrox where also peak gerrad take into account a couple of ex players in interviews saying he didn't really do much and was mostly done by coach's tells even more of a tale I also believe we are in a much worse mentally situation now than we where then and I don't know if he will get it sorted. This seems to me to be another fan backed managerial appointment and for me that puts a lack of faith in the new regime. I hope I'll be proved wrong but for me this ends up in tears. If you want British or Rangers man ( we've had those over the last 10 years it isn't a system that works ) then mcinnes is probably the best choice. Personally I'd like one of the experienced coach's muscat, schimt, rose ect someone that's been around the block and has the knowledge to turn this around apart from one season in gerrads management career he's been a disaster. The nostalgia is really shining but as I said if he proves me wrong I'll admit it but for me this is the wrong choice.
09 Oct 2025 03:08:24
Also boy blue there's about a good few names who where gone there by the time he was in IE loans done out of contract ect.
09 Oct 2025 05:00:59
Boyblue, some want to see what they want to see pal and don't want to look at the full picture before judging gerrard's first spell as our manager and they're entitled to their opinions but i'm with you mate and i think considering the biggest mess of our club in our illustrious history, gerrard rebuillt our club from top to bottom and we became league champions again and would have retained the league title, if gerrard had been backed and stayed and was way too ambitious for our board when he left for villa ?I rate gerrard like yourself mate and see the full picture in his first spell at Rangers ???.
09 Oct 2025 07:15:31
Good post Sam.
The old Tim patter getting throwing out again because people state facts some don't like ?.
09 Oct 2025 07:48:44
Well i have never heard the 1 in 9 patter unless from coming directly from a tim, so very much tim pattern too me.
09 Oct 2025 07:51:30
You're absolutely correct Sir Walter, some only see what they want to see.
He's a very naughty boy is Mr Gerard.
It's been summed it up pretty well by others so far. My summary:
- Gerard did a decent job, with 1 outstanding league season.
- Comfortably the best manager since we came back to the SPFL
- No-one sane expected him to win the league his first season (but many of you do now, interestingly, if he does come back)
- He had one outstanding league season during COVID, with no fans (an important data point given the difficulty of playing in front of our fans)
- Lots of us expected more than 1 in 9 trophies and that's an absolutely fair observation. St Johnstone won more trophies in his time here.
- The "wasn't backed" narrative is as tiresome as the "Tim's patter" for irrefutable facts prior just don't like. He spent £7m on a youth player (not including the previous loan fee), ran the wage bill up to the point we nearly went bankrupt again and refused to sell players to chase more trophies (that never came) . Yes, he didn't get what he wanted in his final season, the first time that happened, and he took the huff and left as soon as he could.
Many won't even read this far because it's not an opinion Gerard fans like to hear. But that doesn't invalidate that a decent number of us fans think similar.
If it is Gerard I'll get behind him and he will, without a shadow of doubt, be a hell of a lot better than Martin. But based on previous experience I and many others will expect less of him than most of those who see his first stint a little more positively then the data confirms.
The good news from our point of view is that if we're wrong and he does indeed turn out to be the Messiah none of his managerial jobs suggest, then we'll not be disappointed, we'll be delighted.
I fear though we won't be the ones disappointed, because our expectations are in line with historical probability.
Wouldn't be my choice. But he'll get my backing if it is him.
09 Oct 2025 07:54:55
The main point for an old codger like me is, his 1 in 9 stopped 0 in 10 and took the wind out of Celtic. We need to wait and see what transpires TBH, either way, I would think our Owners will get this one correct.
09 Oct 2025 07:57:50
Correct again bb4 (please like me) ?.
09 Oct 2025 08:16:42
As a founding member of the "1 in 9 crew", at no point have I said he should have been winning the league in his 1st season.
But plenty ( maybe even the majority of fans ) bought into the full "Let's Go! " rhetoric.
We should have been competitive with the money we invested and the turnover of players.
If I remember correctly, we finished only 9 points behind but I'm sure Celtic had the league wrapped up before the split?
We were also knocked out both cups by Aberdeen which was a disappointment.
2nd season, even though Covid struck, we were already 13 behind after approx. 30 games and in the 5 last games had been beat by Kilmarnock and Hamilton and drew with St Johnstone.
We got beat by Celtic in the final of the LC and lost to Hearts in the SC.
His 3rd season we won the league with a perfect season. Which was an outstanding achievement. But we should have won the treble after getting beat from St Mirren and St Johnstone in the LC and SC respectively.
Now throw in his record at Villa and in Saudi.
Take his name out of the equation and with the record above, are you prepared to give this manager 3 years to build a winning side?
Or have standards fallen so much amongst those fans who dismiss the "1 in 9 crew", that they are willing to accept the occasional title, cup and run in Europe?
09 Oct 2025 08:25:04
Never ever said 1 in 9, if i did its factual not besmirchment as some are taking it from others, and never part of a crew, but these are factual, along with something else I've never said, Callum Davidson winning more, again factual, Gerrard done good stuff in the past granted, can he do it again, no one and I mean no one knows, some are talking as if it's guaranteed, it's not, I'm not fussed either way if he gets it, still the usual bickering between the yes, no's and unsure, same as last time when he was linked 4 months ago. When someone's appointed both sides will be 'I told u so' regardless of who gets it. Tedious n tiresome, until whoever is named we have no idea exactly who, regardless of bookies itk's or whoever, when it happens we get behind whoever it may be, whether noses are out of joint on either side or not, that is after all the only guarantee.
09 Oct 2025 08:34:08
I like you ncb ?
Gdog I'll go over this again incase you missed it yesterday. When gerrard left we were champions, who went a full season unbeaten, Celtic hadn't lay a glove on us in 14 months, we were top of the league by 7 points, that year we went to Europa league final earning us millions, at the end of that season, we sold bassey and aribo for over 30 million, the start of the next season we made the champions league earning millions. He actually left us in a great position on the park and off the park. So here's my question, when did the mess gerrard left start? 2 seasons after he left ?.
Asathor you didn't expect him to win anything his first season, but still give the 1in9 patter.
09 Oct 2025 08:57:21
Yes BB I get your point some use 1 in 9 to have a pop at Gerrard, me to my knowledge haven't, but these are the facts, other things like u mention are a plus, but the 1 in 9 and Davidson are factual in terms of trophies, that unfortunately is the truth in terms of trophies in his first tenure. No matter how good other attributes were.
09 Oct 2025 09:16:31
BB4 it's not "patter" it's FACTUAL information.
Forgive me for refusing to lie about his time at Rangers.
Forgive me for telling the truth that Callum Davidson won more.
What I am telling you is I expect Rangers to win more trophies than St. Johnstone over a 3 year time frame.
That is not being unrealistic as you are alluding to.
Too many are blinded by one title.
09 Oct 2025 09:38:05
Asathor you made the point about Davidson only to have a dig at Gerrard, that is the truth, that post last night only made me cringe.
09 Oct 2025 09:48:55
Aye nae bother asa. Let's not get into it, i'm covered in olive oil with all these olive branches.
Fork I don't beleive you have used that mate, that i can remember ?
?Steve gerrard gerrard, he's big and he's fuc@#g hard, he scores them from 30 yards, Steve gerrard gerrard ?.
09 Oct 2025 10:26:56
He won't be scoring for Rangers ?.
09 Oct 2025 10:34:16
Mph totally agree we should have won the treble that year, but nothing is guaranteed in football. Imo he can't be to harshly judged in Saudi, as it was purely financial, you have 4 teams that will only ever win that league that are backed by the Saudi royal family. Yes he failed at villa that's true. I don't beleive he failed at rangers, that's my honest opinion. From were we were when he came to wgere we were when he left i think he done an amazing job of turning our club around. I'm going to be totally honest with you and say yes I would accept a title every 3 years just now because we have had one in last 20 odd years, we need to start somewhere mate. Celtic not dominating every single year would definitely be a starting point.
09 Oct 2025 10:56:26
Cant wait to hear the old songs again bb4
Sean goss, he's the boss. that's aw av got so far, workin on it though.
09 Oct 2025 11:25:14
Not when it comes to painting with gloss, just a pity he couldn't cross? Ncb?
09 Oct 2025 11:28:20
Storm first to bite ? ? didn't think you'd fall for that one Storm, just winding it up with the song mate ?.
09 Oct 2025 11:49:07
BB4, I realise this may be a little too nuanced for your preferences, but you realise that more than one thing can be true at once right?
That when we say he won 1 in 9, was out trophies by St Johnstone, spent a lot of money (which is too often dismissed) and left because he wasn't getting his own way on transfers, those things can all be true AT THE SAME TIME as it being true he left having just one the (singular) league title and 9 points clear of Celtic?
You think the latter truth is all that matters.
We don't.
We're taking a holistic view of his time as Rangers manager and, I think we mostly all agree on this, scoring it as "decent" overall, while winning less than he should have.
No one is saying he's a bad manager or his time at Rangers was terrible. We're simply pointing out it wasn't as good as some sell it to be and if all he can do is replicate his first spell should he return we won't be the ones disappointed.
09 Oct 2025 12:39:15
Ok bb4, or should i say paul simon, we know its you lol.
09 Oct 2025 12:39:43
Maybe if you read my posts a little more closely you would realise I agree he didn't win enough trophies, how many times do I need to say it? You didn't answer the one question i asked, you said we nearly went bust, AT WHAT POINT WAS THAT? We made close to or more than €100 million euros, not including season ticket money in the 2 year after he left so at what point was Gerrard to blame for us nearly going bust? Please answer stop avoiding the question.
