Very strange press conference for a number of reasons.
Can anyone explain the 9am presser with no questions from fan media?
For a seriously underperforming manager, Martin was worryingly relaxed and comfortable as if he had been given assurances.
His ego and arrogance was evident throughout - he raised comments made at the previous presser about "the team not looking coached" and discussed these again unprompted. Knowing all to well that the people who made those comments weren't in the room. His ego is visibly hurt by that one and its at the forefront of his mind. "Self preservation" comes to mind.
He continues to talk about the "potential" of the team similar to all the potential his previous teams had and how things were a success after a rough patch.
MK Dons and Swansea won nothing. Southampton won promotion via the play offs and got utterly humiliated in the premier league. None of this warranted being appointed Rangers manager.
The only similarities I'm seeing from his previous role is he's repeating the same old rhetoric used at his previous clubs and we're also being humiliated in Europe and domestically.
When asked about Patrick Stewart, he did his utmost to get his backing with all his compliments whilst again unprompted chose to namedrop Thelwell and the owners with more compliments. Self preservation?

He is far too relaxed for not being given assurances TrueBlue, so hope I'm wrong.

I mostly listened and wondered if they would talk about the game of football this weekend and why what they were training wasn't happening on the park.

Trueblue
It's glaringly obvious he's being backed.
He's going nowhere. I'm not sure what's really going on with this takeover at the moment. Maybe by next year, Ibrox will be a housing development I wouldn't put anything past them anymore!
Their management is completely inept, showing no real direction or competence. Every decision they make just highlights how far out of their depth they really are in regards to Rangers Football Club
I'm not trusting this anymore until they can show we can.

King of the waffle, that boy.

I haven't seen the press conference - but he seems to have upset a lot of people with some comments about former employees who used the prestige of the club to develop their own career.

Cant watch any of his pressers any more. Stopped that weeks ago.
19 Sep 2025 12:24:42
The protests don't matter because he doesn't know them and they don't know him. Wow. We are fans of the club you Manage, the fans that pay your wage essentially, to disregard the fans as strangers is about the worst comment i've heard yet. Get to know them, let them get to know you, tell the truth in your pressers, be honest with the fans instead of indulging on self-importance.

He gets upset when people saying they don't look coached because they work very hard ? he can do one as they don't look coached and it's not just fans it's pundits saying it as well.
Everything is fine as we are the top of the league in training as we are out of this world in training according to him. Hope we add the training cup to the league.

EHL it was bad mate. I'm not sure who he was referring too tho if likes of ex players like Barry McCann and Dodds etc who stepped in to help which is totally disrespectful or if he was referring to the old board and owners. But that part was not a good listen. Not the 1st time he's slated previous managers etc to try cover himself.
19 Sep 2025 12:57:45
I thought the reason that he was so relaxed was he got an easy time from the journos. they have slated him all week, yet when they get their chance to ask him questions it was all tame stuff and very little about the lack of a system, tactics, set piece routines, recruitment of players he say are scared to play, why can't he help them get over that. Nothing that the fans have been asking.
Personally I don't really care how his family are handling it, if it's too much then he knows what to do . It would make them happy and us too. His comments about too many people over the last few years enhancing their reputations and moving on was an interesting one but there was no follow up from the press about who he was talking about and how would he know anyway.
He's only been in the door 5 mins, he knows nothing about Rangers.
He hardly had to dip into his box of catch phrases and lies.

Far too relaxed in the press conference. Still arrogant and clueless about what the club is about. He knows he's being backed fully. He's going nowhere unfortunately.

I've listened to it, one thing that surprised me is hardly a question about the game. I don't like RM, but I think some are just listening to his press conferences to simply try to pick something they can moan about. I didn't hear too much that I didn't expect. He's right when he says the only thing he can do about protests is try to get the team, winning games. I think the answer about ex employees was aimed at someone like Boyd who has a lot to say.
19 Sep 2025 13:09:22
Amo, he is talking, as he has before, about the difference between him personally and professionally. If I say something on here and people disagree or criticise, then it doesn't affect me as deeply because everyone is anonymous and faceless. Whereas if it were my family or friends who thought poorly of me then that would be different. tbh I don't see how any manager or in fact player could get through their career without that ethos.
19 Sep 2025 14:14:40
JFM he said it was people who he'd replaced at the club so didn't sound like just pundits like Boyd to me.
19 Sep 2025 13:55:47
EHL - you would be correct.
When asked about Patrick Stewart and the stick he was receiving too, this was something he brought up. He implied that him and Stewart had a conversation regarding this.
Martin highlighted that a lot of individuals came to Rangers simply to use the clubs profile as a platform to progress themselves further. I wasn't sure if he was referring to senior officials, management or other roles within the club.
To me he was trying to paint himself in good light as someone here with the "right intentions" that we should appreciate, whereas he's an arrogant, egotistical maniac out of his depth. Each passing press conference infuriates me more. He ultimately described himself in my previous paragraph.
19 Sep 2025 14:00:34
Correct Strom.
Fan media made the comments based on their observation. They have the stats and evidence to back it up. We have regressed further. We create next to nothing from open play and concede similar types of goals in every game so far. The league position doesn't lie.
Build up play, defensive structure and organisation from set pieces are all things that are coached.
These are 3 evident areas where we have been utterly appalling. We as fans see it, the coaches surely see it (I hope). It's their job to rectify this and right now we're not seeing it.
19 Sep 2025 14:31:11
Must be one of the temporary fix that were in place then.
19 Sep 2025 14:35:14
I agree with that Angus, if someone says sorry if I upset you my usual reply is that only people I care about can upset me. That is a similar take on what RM said. I still don't want him at Rangers.
No silly insults from me i just do not think he is a good coach, I said so before he was signed and he has done nothing to change my mind.
19 Sep 2025 14:38:55
We've regressed terribly under Martin.
