Agreed EHL, not my choice either, BUT we are in desperate times, IF he were to steady the ship and make us a team which and was defensively stronger (not difficult for a reasonable coach! ) and created chances for Miovski and Chermiti ( of which there have been very little), then I would take him back.

that your choice would be danny rohl and that's fine because that's your opinion mate ?I'm not saying for a second than danny rohl isn't a good, young coach but after martin imo we need a much more experienced manager who can handle the size/ expectations as Rangers manager and the enormity of the job i feel could swallow danny rohl up ?.

Whats with the messiah mentality with Gerard? He won 1 trophy in 9 in his tenure. The trophy we did win was when Celtic went a jolly to dubai when covid hit and they fell apart.
He went to villa - won nothing
He went to Saudi- won nothing
Can't get my head around why some want him back and some think he would be a good appointment.
We need a manager that is going to build us from the back and make us defensively solid and hard to score against and beat.
We have enough in midfield and forward area to create and score goals unfortunately we don't have a manager that has experience in building winning teams and making them difficult to play against, we have a rookie manager with woke ideology blaming players mentality rather than his tactics and methodology.
This team has character and has plenty of players with the right mentality, its a managers job to instill confidence in his team if they are devoid of that then that falls on the manager not the players.
So personally for me its no for gerard we've been there and that ship has sailed, we need a winner in charge that can build a winning team and that starts from the defence.

People point to 1 trophy in 9 for SG but forget how absolutely rotten we were she he took over. We were in the gutter, rock bottom. At least it seemed that way until RM took us down even further. It was always going to take a few years to sort it out. Gerrard did a lot to raise the bar at the club, the whole club, and brought back respectability in Europe. Sure he wasn't perfect but he was a hundred times better than what we have now. I can't say he would definitely get us back on top but I know he would make the club infinitely better just by walking through. Or we could take another punt on someone else. Your choice.

I think Gerrard with Beale as his coach was a great partnership. Gerrard has showed he is out his depth since leaving Rangers. Villa and Saudi was a disaster.

Saying Gerard wouldn't be my preference isn't a criticism of him or in anyway belittling his time at us. I just think there is better available.
SWS, my preference would be Schmidt - vastly experienced, familiar with working within our structure, proven winner in 4 different leagues (3 in Europe and 1 in Asia) .
Rohl is who my guy says we'll look to as he was on the previous shortlist, he's available, he's from the Red Bull group (like Thelwell), our GK worked under him last season and he's pretty much the opposite to Martin.

I always thought McInnes would have a good Rangers manager but can't see him leave Hearts for Rangers now. All the talk of big name managers coming in such as Mourinhio or Benitez coming could be another expensive disaster we need someone that knows the Scottish game or is willing to work with someone who knows the Scottish game whether its Gerrard, Dyce (not my choice) or Kevin Muscat with the latter being my choice as he won't take any rubbish from the players and is a winner that plays attractive football. With regards to Gerrard, i would not be against this as he is a guy that gains respect and again takes no rubbish where we played decent football. Yes he left but who wouldn't if you were going to get backed because Park and co didn't back him after he won the league.

Need to agree with EHL Gerrard would not be my first choice probably not even in my top 5 choices if I'm honest.
Only thing I miss under Gerrard was the players were so much fitter and hunted the ball back.
He also took a prestige to the club again.
But tactics wise he needed to improve and adapt.

Iain, I agree, I think McInnes could be 'the one that go away'. I'll admit I wasn't previously excited by the prospect of him but he can organise a team and understands the league and expectations. I think that ship may hay have sailed though as Hearts would play hard ball, which is fair enough. And I reckon his ethos is too dissimilar to Martin for the board. They will probably want someone with a similar style to Martin.
