Spent some time with Russell yesterday and he knows he's still backed by the board. Although he understands the fans will make his position untenable if results don't trend correctly.
He says him and his team over focused on the style and structure he wanted to implement. He thought the players would take to it quicker and deliver like his promotion season at Saints.
He says they are relaxing a little on that rigid structure and allowing more creativity and 'free movement' as he called it.
We had a bit of a laugh together at the criticism, he's very resilient in his mentality. I told him he'd be gone already if it was up to me!

Mad he thinks that yet our defence is still so open. 1 long ball and were constantly one on one at the back. Has to get 6 points from livi and falkirk away and 4 points min in europe 2 games. Hearts game at ibrox was a joke. he's the worst manager in our history. Having the backing if thr board is a joke also makes them look like diddys aswel.
23 Sep 2025 15:06:52
Did you aye?
23 Sep 2025 15:36:00
Did you get a swatch of his missus Borna? ?.
23 Sep 2025 15:45:53
LMac, why do you question everything mate and constantly come out with these sarcastic posts to fellow posters when they post something you don't care to believe ?How do you know Bornabear wasn't talking to russell martin ?You constantly do this?.
23 Sep 2025 16:13:29
SWS.
Why would RM speak that much in detail to someone random?
23 Sep 2025 16:44:23
In all seriousness how do you know he's someone random?
I don't know who you are or who Bornabear is?
Maybe he did maybe he didn't but I can't say either way as I don't know him?
23 Sep 2025 17:23:41
I had a chat with him too three nights ago. He said he understands the fans frustrations and wished they're see just how anxious his players were, said he hasn't see a team this anxious since the last time he managed!
23 Sep 2025 18:12:34
So letting the players do what they do best rather than coach his useless tactics on them. Maybe if he had slowly introduced his system we might not be 11th. Shocked he is still here.
23 Sep 2025 18:17:41
If that's true then it's a positive step, many more needing implementing tho especially the defence as mentioned above.
23 Sep 2025 19:08:52
People need to realise even RM will have friends and acquaintances. We don't know people background or contacts. If someone basically came out to you both and called you liars I don't think you would be best pleased.
Thanks for the info Borna.
23 Sep 2025 19:17:45
Glad to hear it.
23 Sep 2025 19:41:37
Not doubting your story but why would Martin believe he could slowly take time for players to learn a system with hoge errors and anxiety like Southampton where u can rely on playoffs, in a 2horse race where Celtic rarely drop points and we start our season with European qualifiers straight away?
23 Sep 2025 21:55:35
Kaiser my only guess is that the owners agreed to the whole process. if they didn't I think they would have sacked him by now if even half the stories of unrest , just from on this site, were true. so they are looking at longer term success. not sacrificing one season but being accepting of if things didn't start right.
as bad as it is we have LC semi and EL league stages despite how poor we have been. if things improve from here then if that is the stance it might have worked.
can you think of reasons why they haven't sacked the, I suspect that you don't believe the disrespect of the fans idea either but may be wrong.
24 Sep 2025 00:00:05
Dont care about excuses just want to see results and if martin gets results he will win back full supports but as it stands he drops any more points he's should be gone.
24 Sep 2025 06:44:13
My bet is the owners will finally see the logic in releasing martin once we are 12th in the league and bottom of the europa group,
Braga, Genk, Roma, Porto will annihilate our defence and martins system, and there are 4 more games against sides that have the tactics and teams to beat us, we can't even beat single fish sides or our arch rivals in our own league, the 8 teams we are up against in europa are no push overs, Roma and Porto will murder us they have quality and skill in abundance and will go for jug straight off, zero chance we are beating either of those teams, i expect us to cop hefty hidings because our team tactics has more holes than a teabag factory on top of a mountain made of swiss cheese.
Let's be honest we got lucky against hibs, they were all over us until Raskin glanced that header in and miovski got a lucky tap in.
had Boyle's goal been legit and stood, we would have postman pat the bed again and lost.
still not seeing the skilled dominant attacking possession goal scoring sides we expect at Rangers and we are miles off it.

Angus i hope we can kick on now. But in talking to a fan ( if true) and saying similar to things he's said before he's admitting he completely underestimated the job and underprepared thinking he didn't need to hit the group running. Unlike at saints where a slow srart and mid table for most the season is acceptable. As for trying to understand why they haven't sacked him, I've given up on that given I still can't fathom why on earth they would give him the job in the 1st place.
24 Sep 2025 08:52:09
Kaiser I am not sure any manager would underestimate the job given they just need to read about the previous managers. he also would have contacts from his time up here who could tell him.
what I think happens is that a manager has a style and tries to play that initially and wants to give it a bit of time to work. I see different players being tried across positions to find a blend which would work. the Raskin issues whatever they were about haven't helped. so he thinks his style will work but until he actually tries it he doesn't actually know. we just see it not working and say he has underestimated the league.
then as EHL has said he is now seeing it being adapted slightly to work better.
so we might see the team kick on and move forward now if he is adapting but I don't expect us to win every game from now on in and that will go against him.
as conjecture re why they hired him: they looked beyond the results when they chose him as they had other issues they needed him to deal with. he is confident in himself so they knew he would be able to handle all the heat whilst those issues were sorted, the team weren't winning and the fans would turn. so they buy him time.

Blowing Archie Up His Smoke, arrange as u see fit.
24 Sep 2025 09:16:13
There's nothing to say borna bear is only just a fan. His previous posts and comments suggest he has some connections. Not everyone discloses their sources or how they have come in to receipt of their information.
24 Sep 2025 09:26:44
Agreed Verdant all info is worth considering as no one knows, it's a site for rumours and Borna's may hold truth.
24 Sep 2025 09:50:09
Preseason, training, and, 13games in should be a clear enough picture rather than still trying to find a blend that works. Coupled with his previous experience of players struggling to manage to take on board his style at every other club certainly suggests underestimating the importance of a good start.
After 10 games he was saying, but in England we'd have only played a couple of games. That's just pure poor preparation for the job he was given.
I would however hold those above him also to blame for underestimated the job so it's not just all on him. There's has been a real feeling that's its an easy job because regardless we'll always get at least 2nd. They've came in with same pub league mentality that many down south view us.
24 Sep 2025 12:24:58
I don't disagree Kaiser to an extent but he is the head coach and he needs to decide what is right as it is his head on the line. got to realise the amount of time for actual coaching there is from a Sunday Wednesday/ Thursday Saturday schedule as well. I think that was part of the point from only playing a couple of games. so he wants to play a certain way and at other clubs it took 15 or so games before it settled. as I say if the plan was slash for him to build this style then that would possibly also explain why he stuck with it.
he has changed it now so the story that he would never change has been disproven.
I just never buy the fact that every manager we have had since coming back up underestimate our league. I just think we haven't been good enough and Celtic have been better. as to other losses each game is a cup final for the likes of Dundee and it is easy to set up to destroy rather than create. they win/ draw against us but would lose against Ross County three days later.
24 Sep 2025 13:46:40
To chip in on some of the comments on here - the biggest frustration for me with Martin is that often what he says and does are very different - which makes it very difficult for many to trust him.
Small example is that he met with all coaches and reassured them all that he was open to listening to their feedback and that he needed their expertise and experience to be successful.
He then chose to ignore pretty much everything that anyone said and do things his way, much to the detriment of the team and club as a whole.
24 Sep 2025 13:49:40
Cheers Bornabear, he needs to do something that wins games and that will do me right now.
24 Sep 2025 14:35:35
Bornobear, are you John brown?
24 Sep 2025 14:46:12
Thanks again for the insight EHL, it certainly appears that way. Don't know if other managers underestimated job but saying things like we'd have played less games by now in another country shows clear lack of preparation for the one your in, especially with the importance of the start we have. And we still don't know if he's changed as its only one game and all he did was put Raskin back in the position he wanted. Also other clubs no longer set up to destroy as much because there's no fear. Apart from Dundee I'd say every other team deserved to win until Hibs.
24 Sep 2025 14:46:35
The time and games Martin has had should have been plenty to work things out, however if the bookies are right in making Dyche favourite to replace Hair Flick then I can only hope Martin gets things right.
Does Thelwell have a connection to Dyche, was he involved in the appointment at Everton, other than that was he there when Rafa managed them?
24 Sep 2025 17:05:02
Kaiser as I said before the less games they have the more time they have to work on everything. so if we have had 6 games in 2 weeks by the time rest days are built in there is no time left. whereas playing saturday/ saturday means they have 4-5 days to work on everything so you can implement it quicker as you have more sessions. it isn't rocket science.
EHL in fairness you don't say he said he would implement it but only listen ?; however I agree what is the point of saying you will rely on someone's expertise if you dont.
24 Sep 2025 17:52:52
Angus championship teams play twice a week just about every week. So that's no reason or excuse. He's been used to that since he started coaching. He comes in knowing the demands and expectations are from the start. As plenty of others have said he could have slowly implemented his style. Instead he made the choice to ignore advice and do it his 100% all in his way or your out. The fixtures are part of the job he's given and its 2 games a week not one. Using that argument u could say its not rocket science if we played once a fortnight players would have even longer to train and learn. it's up to him to work out how to get his team playing twice a week from week 1, not week 21.
24 Sep 2025 18:20:08
Whoever started this style of play nonsense has got a lot to answer for Rangers have one style of play to live up to only and that's winning by whatever means possible.
24 Sep 2025 19:24:07
Kaiser I am giving reasons why things didn't work out as they havent. you don't accept them so no point in me trying anymore so will give in ?.
24 Sep 2025 22:21:13
Think your probably right Angus. We're butting head over the same thing but from opposite sides. Why it hasn't or why it wouldn't work. Most important thing going forward is he does make it work.
25 Sep 2025 09:47:02
I just hope tonight's the night for Chermiti and the big lad scores a couple. if selected (£10m so you might think so )
