Discussion on contingency plan below, and management teams who have been identified as an option:
Michael O'Neill and Steve Davis.
NI unlikely to qualify for WC and the move for O'Neill/ Davis would have longevity.
I personally believe an experienced manager like O'Neill with Davis would be a solid option with a less risk.

Very unlikely and is against the "possession based" approach Thelwell and Stewart alluded to.
NI have all but guaranteed a World Cup play off following their Nations League results.
Michael has the country punching well above their weight, so I wouldn't rule out NI qualification.
Diarmuid O'Carroll is also part of his coaching staff, currently assistant manager at Sparta Prague. Previously worked with Stephen Robinson at St Mirren.

I loved Steven Davis as a player and wouldn't mind him being involved as a coach under a new manager, I always thought Clement should have kept him on and not Alex Rae, although maybe circumstances weren't right.
But, O'Neill has done nothing in his managerial career to merit giving him the Rangers job.
