Told this evening that Rangers have spoken to Roger Schmidt's representatives on the possibility of replacing Russell Martin. ?That would be an outstanding appointment, imo and i'd love that to be true ?Has any other posters heard schmidt is one of the managers we're very interested in ?.

Id say his pedigree is impressive enough to be seriously considered.
The fact is he's won trophy's everywhere he's went, he was my choice when Clement was removed. i'd be delighted to bring a manger of that calibre into the club.

Maybe the owners are working behind everyone's back and taking there time in getting rid of Russell Martin because they are thinking of going in a new direction and are considering moving K. Thelwell and D. Purdy on as well.
So to get the correct guys in to replace them just takes time, one can only hope.

Yes, Schmidt is one of the 3 names that was mentioned to me a couple of weeks back.

The guy who told me Thestigno1 is the same guy that told me that muscat truly believed he had the Rangers job in the bag, for then to be told a couple of days later, that our club had decided to appoint philippe clement instead ?He tells me definitely roger schmidt's reps have been sounded out and tentative talks went well ?.

I think it's imperative that if the new manager is not familiar with Scottish football that we have an assistant who is.
One of best things Gerrard done was being McAllister into his team.
It also shows us if the manager has too big an ego to accept he needs help with Scottish football knowledge. Nothing wrong with doing so, and it doesn't have to be Barry or even an ex ranger.

Why didn't we go for guys like this over the summer? From memory we were linked with Martin and the boy from Wednesday, one is a rookie, and the other is a flop. I'm struggle to believe that calibre of manager would now be interested? Perhaps as the season is finished there's no pressure?

I think he's a decent manager and was ok with prospect of him at start, but now after most of our transfers coming from England think we need to go with a British based manager to get best out of these guys.
Wilder, McInnes, Gerrard even Ferguson i'd take just to get rid of Martin.

{Ed001's Note - I know a little about him, I watch a little of the Asian Champions League (I was at a game last night in the competition), so see Al Ahli. They look good under him, but the level is not good. Before that he was at RB Salzburg, where you have to be incompetent (Lijnders) not to win things while managing there. So it is very tough to know how good he is.
You only have to look at Amorim to see how tough it is to judge a manager's ability. It was between him and Slot for the Liverpool job and Slot was picked over him mainly because he played a similar system to Klopp, rather than because they could see how much better he was. Now we see at United that he is inflexible and incapable of adapting to the higher level of demands when faced by better coaches.
The other thing I would be wary of is a manager who chose to take the money in Arabia, not because I think he is greedy, it was a good step for him, but because you might not afford him. You would have to sell a project to him and you would be up against the project to basically build a whole league, which is what they are trying to do in Arabia. So it would be a tough sell.}
