Gerrards worst signing and why?

10 Jun 2020 23:33:44
Andy King.
Good cm but, no chance to impress. Strange deal to have been made.

10 Jun 2020 23:46:36
Eros Grezda. For a winger, he couldn’t beat a player and he wasn’t quick enough in addition to poor temperament. I recall one good game against Motherwell. Not good value for money.

11 Jun 2020 05:51:50
long long list here. sadiq, worral grezda are probably top of the list.

11 Jun 2020 07:35:06
I’d have to say his back room staff particularly Beale and GM. We took a rookie manager and I did and still do have faith in him but he needed the right guys beside him. People who are strong enough to point out his mistakes and offer another solution. It’s clear these guys don’t do that as we make the same tactical errors two years down the line. Two years and we still cannot mix up our style of play to suit pitches, weather or opposition.

When Souness came in he brought Walter and the rest is history. Souness knew he needed a mentally strong right hand man and respected the opinion of Smith.

It’s too easy to surround oneself with yes men in life but as a manager you need to have a team of opinions and be willing to learn from those around you. Yes have the final say and yes be the one who leads the group but do not have passive assistance from your right hand men.

There isn’t a single rangers fan who can tell me that Gerrard does not keep making the same mistakes by trying to vary his formation and style. I am convinced it’s he who needs to learn and learn fast. Loyalty is admirable but blind loyalty will cost him this job.

11 Jun 2020 08:20:21
Yeh grezda was ah big disappointment, can't get them all right, but when you purchase ah player that has been out injured for ah while, I suppose that is what you get.

11 Jun 2020 09:56:33
Quite a few garbage he's signed actually.

11 Jun 2020 12:42:47
He’s signed more bad players than he has good players.

Bad signings:
Sadiq
King
Grezda
Worral
Lafferty

Good signings
Mcgregor
Arfield
Kent (will prove his worth)
Barasic.

11 Jun 2020 15:42:08
Sadiq interesting.
Worrall valued at 15 million now. Wanted by Arsenall.
Mcgregor and arfield signed before gerrard got rangers job
Deem22.

10 Jun 2020 22:16:14
I was thinking, would anyone else like to see Rangers sell kamara and go in for Tapia. I think it would be a good bit of business. Generate cash from kamara sale and get Tapia on a pre contract!
I think Tapia is a better player than kamara imo. What do you all think?

10 Jun 2020 23:07:57
Yogibear, I would be all for selling Kamara if the right bid comes in. He's a good player but he loses concentration and doesn't appear overly keen to get involved in a battle. We need a Roberts, Souness type that can play football and also has a bit of dig.

10 Jun 2020 23:32:26
BerkshireBlue,
Thats what makes me like Renato Tapia. Technically very good and gets wired right in about it. He is also young enough to still have some development potential in there too.
I also agree that the right bid needs to come in for Kamara but, we can hardly lose out after only paying 50k for him.

10 Jun 2020 23:54:58
Yogi bear. Sounds like the type of player we need. He needs to be able to lead and drive the team forward and help the defence like a McCall. For me Kamara doesn’t have enough fight in him.

11 Jun 2020 07:33:55
BerkshireBlue, yogibear1972 is correct mate, tapia is that sort of midfielder!

11 Jun 2020 08:24:14
Would sell no problem, you never know what your going to get from him, he has no consistency.
Sell at profit and get someone in like tapia.

11 Jun 2020 09:24:30
Is tapia available on a free contract this summer?

11 Jun 2020 10:49:38
Yes mrgrumpy, tapia is a free agent.
Supposedly he's chosen which club he's signing for. I read that somewhere last night mate. I know celta vigo were the favourites to sign him.

11 Jun 2020 15:42:43
Tapia apparently going to Spain.

10 Jun 2020 19:46:19
Love it when people say - go and get a Gattuso type player in.

Why stop there, just go and get a Maldini type defender, Zidane type midfielder and shearer type striker? Oh that’s right because they don’t grow on trees and every team in world football is looking for them!

10 Jun 2020 20:47:32
I think you’ve missed the point pal, it’s more in relation to attributes and mentality. Oh btw you missed Messi and Ronaldo!

10 Jun 2020 22:11:10
I don't think you get the point. Attributes and mentality is what makes a player - there is nothing else!

Was actually thinking about a different era when Gattuso was mentioned.

11 Jun 2020 00:44:00
What about getting a Stanley Mathews type or a couple of Georgie Bests in the ranks . can't be impossible he played for Hibs remember 🤔😂.

11 Jun 2020 02:00:39
Zikos. I understand where you are coming from. The difference is Gattuso did play for Rangers. We know what he brought to the team. That’s why I mentioned his type. Maldini, Zidane, etc, were top notch players that unfortunately did not play for Rangers.

10 Jun 2020 18:34:19
Remember when the Tims came on here claiming we dug up the Ibrox pitch because we didn't want to complete the season?
Well isn't the pitch looking magnificent? And it's only the 10th of June and we haven't been given the go-ahead to resume football yet never mind complete last season!
Oh wait the Tims have already awarded themselves an unearned tainted title. 👍😷👀.

10 Jun 2020 19:36:31
The pitch was badly needing re-laid. 👍.

10 Jun 2020 20:39:48
I'm badly needing laid.

10 Jun 2020 20:54:19
Best of luck on here southend👍.

10 Jun 2020 21:14:12
Where can you see the new pitch?
(Dont say Ibrox! )

10 Jun 2020 22:27:31
Plenty pictures just type in new rangers pitch bar72.

11 Jun 2020 00:27:41
Rangers Twitter👍.

11 Jun 2020 00:45:42
Southend brilliant.
Am badly needing grass.

10 Jun 2020 17:55:35
The only person who goes to the petrol station for gossip is Alan Partridge. Is he your source?

10 Jun 2020 17:14:25
I like Ryan Jack but he is injury prone and we need a leader in this position. A midfielder who is a good tackler with a good engine that can link play and is a leader when things aren’t going our way. A Gattuso type player. Any ideas? Are any of our development squad up to the mark? Or what about players that might be within our budget like Ryan Gravenberch, Florentino Luis, Eduardo Camavinga or Lucas Silva?

10 Jun 2020 17:35:30
Ross McCrorie.

10 Jun 2020 17:45:15
Hardly injury prone. Played 38 games this season.

10 Jun 2020 19:34:25
In our price range 68? You have just quoted some of the hottest prospects in world football.

I think you should try and stay off the championship manager whilst in lockdown.

10 Jun 2020 20:18:42
Somebody has definitely been playing football manager zikos! 😁.

11 Jun 2020 07:36:52
68,ryan Jack has played in the majority of our games in that season there. Don't know what you're on about pal? 🤔.

10 Jun 2020 16:42:43
There’s a few decent players out of contract come July 1st.
John lundstram (cm) - Sheffield United
Mendy (cm) - Leicester
Obi Mikel (Cm) - not going to even try to spell that Turkish team lol
Clyne (rb) - Liverpool
Cedric (Rb) - Southampton
Ibe (winger) - Bournemouth
Haberer (cm) - Freiburg.

10 Jun 2020 16:56:59
Never heard of them other than Mikel.

10 Jun 2020 17:00:46
Nathaniel Clyne? Jordan Ibe? Cedric soares? You must not watch a lot of football if you’ve never heard of any of the guys on this list. Haberer is the only more obscure one and I put him because I’ve seen him a few times when I’ve watched the bundesliga and he’s decent.

10 Jun 2020 18:35:57
Surely wages would be an issue with most of them?

10 Jun 2020 20:50:22
All probably on over 40k per week 🤣.

10 Jun 2020 21:56:48
There getting the chance to play for the mighty Rangers they would offer to play for free.

10 Jun 2020 15:42:30
Alrite ladies n gents.
Now I know all the talk is of players on the park which is of course massive, but don't you think Gerrard could bring in a coaching team member that is a rangers man, maybe a go between to get certain points across. I know GMAC is a good go between but i dunno or even someone like a souness in an advisory role just to give a little extra edge?
Likes of Celtic who have Lennon in charge, he's a Celtic man. N they have Scott brown on the park but i'd assume he's also a massive go between. In the dressing room also?
Just a different thought.
Stay safe and cheers folks.

10 Jun 2020 16:09:55
Allan mcgregor and ryan jack are big rangers fans and should be big voices in the dressing room.

10 Jun 2020 17:01:15
Kri55,i'm not saying to do this, but i think if you were to do that and bring in someone like that, how about barry ferguson? He would tell the players in no uncertain terms what was required, as he was a terrific rangers captain and did this on the park, while he was rangers captain!

10 Jun 2020 17:29:40
SGL - great shout.

10 Jun 2020 17:40:54
Kri55 we have an assistant manager who is a lifelong fan and in the dressing room we have McGregor, Jack, Davis, Arfield, who are all fans and are big voices in the dressing room. What exactly is it that you want?

10 Jun 2020 18:23:28
I do think we have a few gers men in there but i disagree this is what we need. We have the ability to get up for the big games and fight like gers. Europe and old firm has proven this. Gerrard is a prime example of this. He has been involved in some great one off comebacks and runs coups/ champs league.
However he isn't a winner. Never seen a successful season out. We have too few experienced league winners. Davis/ McGregor/ McAllister too long ago.
What we actually need is winners in the dressing room/ pitch. Someone who knows how to grab a game by the throat, someone you would fight along side that has been through it and ground out victories.
Someone who's current team has one a few seasons in a row and expects success.

10 Jun 2020 21:58:03
cant remember when popcorn lemmon did that well with a team that was not built before he got them.

11 Jun 2020 00:49:56
Would also debate that popcorn is a man . when he puffs his chest out he’s more like a cock . that’s a male chicken Ed btw.

11 Jun 2020 10:39:15
The coven. How do u know they are big voices? . You don't, unless. your secretly in there.
BF would be a great addition. I think my point is lost on some. The folks mentioned haven't been brought up ( minus McGregor) as such around rangers, yes they are fans but need someone with the mentality, as well as players on the park, with the mentality of never give up etc. Its funny because 90% of folk on here say Davis, shagger etc are big. voices in the dressing room however the one constant name that keeps popping up as the loudest driving force behind the team, and everyone slates him, is Tav.
I think we have the players there to win the league with physical and footballing attributes . mentality we are miles off it.

10 Jun 2020 15:19:58
Hi Bears,
first post for a while here, but on reading others postings and banter pages about options punted around about strikers, here is an option.
if we are thinking about players! like the livy guy and the other 500k-2mil range, are they any better than current POOL players. in my view if we sign anybody and they could bomb and not be given match time= money wasted. Watching say Stewart play well, next match mostly on the bench. to me it will not matter who we sign, it has to be an 100% starter that can do the job. big fan of wee alfie but that brings it home for me. when not at it we struggled big time and SG mixed it up and it did not work (back on the bench) . play a player in his natural position. anyway I will always be a bear and remember.

10 Jun 2020 19:40:54
I like Morelos although he can be very frustrating at times but I must say I think we need better to challenge for the title.

1 question - would Alfie get a game over the city? Atm I don’t think he would. Think he would possibly be 3rd choice striker. Therefore we need a bit more quality up front not more squad players. We need someone to push Alfie down the pecking order where he belongs.

However it doesn’t make financial sense to have a £15M backup. So maybe it’s time to let him go and use the money to buy someone even better.

10 Jun 2020 21:07:01
Zikos I whole heartedly disagree! I think Morelos is the best striker in the league and if he was across the city he would undoubtedly start for them and he’d probably never would have been sent off either 🤷🏽‍♂️.

10 Jun 2020 22:17:58
Morelos has a lot of good attributes but don't think he is as good as Edouard. I think he has better close control, better feet and is a far better finisher.

Morelos when he is on his game must a nightmare to play against with his physicality. But technically there is better over the city. If Griffiths was to get fit again, is also a better finisher.

If he improves his finishing and learns how to beat a man then he will be priceless, but he doesn't seem the type to really work on their game.

Still - happy to be proved wrong tho.

11 Jun 2020 09:34:08
Zikos, third choice in the breeze block mountain . first choice please if you don’t mind.

10 Jun 2020 14:47:06
Hello fellow bears, not posted for a while but tried to keep an eye on my fellow blue noses posts. I am proud to count myself among your numbers folks, the support for our club is amazing (in the main ) .
I always look forward to reading our regular posters (coops, coldo etc)
I was meant to be in Dubai last month meeting some digger friends but that was scuppered (small price) .
I was looking forward to it as we were there last year and Ed gave me some ideas for places to visit.
Still have them in mind Ed for when we get back.
Take care folks and look out for those less fortunate than yourselves (dont mean celtic fans but it would fit the description 😉)

10 Jun 2020 15:10:49
Coop, we have a fan club mate😁. Cheers Gger👍.

10 Jun 2020 16:27:12
Welcome back Gger.

10 Jun 2020 17:04:19
Very nice words Gger, thanks very much and stay safe and stay well pal! 🙏👍.

10 Jun 2020 20:41:33
Right let's get a poll to see who has the most fans. Coldo or coops😂.

10 Jun 2020 14:17:42
Dykes names seems to keep cropping up on this forum about as much as David Healys used to FGS any chance we can discuss any other prospects that people know of form around Europe or anywhere in the world seems some people are pinning their hopes on Dykes but there must be other wee gems of players we can find out about with our world wide fan base instead of dykes being mentioned in just about every post now.

10 Jun 2020 16:41:53
What about Shankland?
Jokes.
If Morelos goes I do believe we will need to bring in 2-3 players in that position.
Only 1-2 of these will have chance of being successful. I just can't see us pinning all our Hope's on 1 newbie.
Ideally I would bring in 3 players of the following.
1. Mohamed (Zamalek) or Mala (Bordeaux)
2. Dykes (Livingston), grykjaer (spelling? Lech Poznan)
3. Grbic (Clermont), Hodzic (D. Zagreb)

The first 2 can play a number of frontline positions. The next are good at leading the line. The last should get goals anywhere.
Obviously it comes down to cost and value but we need to be able to change it up. Morelos cash should pay for 3 easy.
However if Morelos is still here we should look at just 1-2.ideally for me in this case it would be Mohamed as he can be up front ot attacking mid and Dykes for power as long as no more than a million.

10 Jun 2020 18:55:12
Mohamed? Is that the Egyptian boy we were linked with a while back?

10 Jun 2020 14:04:37
If we get Dykes from livi I'd say £500k and either Middleton or Greg Stewart as a sweetener can't see either Of those two getting much game time and I think dykes brings more to the party than either of the two I mentioned.

10 Jun 2020 16:13:54
BBS, neither of those guys fit into the Livi 'mould', big, fast, built like brick outhouses and willing to cover every blade of plastic to get a result.
That should be the minimum requirement for any club mind.
But they do like a certain type of player.

10 Jun 2020 12:41:46
I will get slated for this, but what about Alex Gogic from Hamilton for a bit of steel in the middle of the park, every time I have seen this guy he doesn't mind doing the ugly side of the game he doesn't mind a tackle and does the simple things in breaking the opponents down just a thought.

10 Jun 2020 13:09:39
Jeezoh🤦‍♂️.

10 Jun 2020 13:49:27
I know nothing of him and can't say i have ever noticed him stand out mate. To be fair, was on a scottish football forum yesterday and he was being discussed and fans of other clubs said they would have him. General consensus was though, good enough for anyone excluding old firm. Not any more daft than some of the other names people throw up though mate!

10 Jun 2020 13:53:28
Biglach62, to be honest I would rather opt for McCrorie or Edmundson as a hard racking, mobile defensive midfielder when needed. Or maybe try and find another Gattuso that has good pedigree and we can give him the right platform.

10 Jun 2020 13:56:06
As always your entitled to your own thoughts an opinions but I think we need significant improvement in that area don’t think gogic provides that👌.

10 Jun 2020 15:26:52
I have to agree with blue blue sea. 👍.

10 Jun 2020 16:07:41
To be fair to Gogic he was outstanding in the game when Hamilton won 1-0 at Ibrox.

10 Jun 2020 16:15:21
I think if you asked 100 Rangers fans 95% of them would say who?
Think that says it all really.

10 Jun 2020 18:39:23
Have we now to consider every player who has one good game against us?

11 Jun 2020 12:01:51
McCrorie, is staying at Portsmouth.

10 Jun 2020 00:55:55
SGL and the other lads interested in Dykes, I've just been on to an old friend in South Australia (it's 9am there and 1am here) . Bill emigrated from Cambuslang (he was Wullie then) to Melbourne and was involved in Australian 'soccer' as a player and a coach for most of those years and is also a major bluenose. I'll just give you his words:
Hi wee man, how's things? Yes, I've been reading about Gers interest in Dykes on a lot of sites. The guy's family are Scottish and that's how he landed there. He didn't play a lot over here and it was a surprise that he made it as a pro.
All I can say is that Socceroos coach Graham Arnold reckoned that Dykes at present would be about sixth choice centre forward for him. He said there's nothing much to his game except brute strength.
I think we've got a better boy here, just as physical but more talented and a proven scorer with 6 goals in 11 internationals. He is Adam Taggart and he is playing in South Korea. Someone in the John Brown supporters' club in Adelaide actually recommended this guy to Bomber!
It would be great for us over here if Gers signed another Aussie, we've had a couple in the past. I'm sure the club's connections over here will keep them right. Just make it the right Aussie, mate!

His words with personal stuff deleted, make of it what you will.

10 Jun 2020 07:35:45
I think he is right, good player but not what we are looking for. I watched all the videos of Dykes to remind myself and to be honest although he gets in the right places for scoring opportunities and is good in the air his overall play is lacking and not the type of player we need to stop 10IAR. We have to aim higher. Not to say if we got him cheap enough he would not be useful at times but no use sitting on the bench.

10 Jun 2020 08:34:49
well i agree with that assessment. i think we need much better than the lads currently being put forward if we are going to move forward. my personal feeling is that he would be sidelined more often or not picking up red cards more regularly than Morelos.

10 Jun 2020 09:14:40
The covenanter, i'm only going on what i see pal! For the record dykes actually stated yesterday that arnold had a great meet up with himself for a coffee, to try and persuade me to choose australia over scotland, for my international career, that was big dykes words yesterday, not mine pal!

The covenanter, is there any truth on the suggestions, that lyndon dykes is actually a rangers fan? It was a blog from ibrox noise last month, while talking about dykes they stated rangers were his boyhood idols. Just to see if you knew or not mate?

10 Jun 2020 10:45:17
Covenanter, did Adam Taggart have a spell in England and a short spell in Scotland with Dundee Utd? I don’t think it worked out for him for whatever reason. Rangers will need a more physical striker for the Scottish league however I am sure there are a number of options being considered by Rangers. Also Wilson quoted saying that media speculation is way off the mark. So Rangers might not even be in for Dykes.

10 Jun 2020 11:42:53
I am keen to take dykes but only right price. (750k) or player swap. As said previous, my mate played with dykes when he was breaking through at redlands united and now brisbane roar 18s coach. Always been firey. Back then was very hit and miss but my mate has watched him come on leaps and bounds and has worked non stop to get where he is today. He is a grafter there's no doubt. Just not sure he's worth 2mill.

10 Jun 2020 12:18:51
Paul livi have got to want players from us. Pollster, Stewart, Barker hastie all on four five times the wage dykes is on.
Livi can’t afford players people wish to swap.

10 Jun 2020 12:48:21
We need to get rid of some fringe players but they may be happy to stay at Rangers until their Contract runs out.

10 Jun 2020 13:01:16
Hi SGL, I never actually asked Bill if the boy was a bluenose, but I believe he is, mate.

10 Jun 2020 13:14:10
SGL, seems he spoke to Arnold in March, mate, but because of the CV nothing came of it. I think like any international side the manager would like as many players to choose from as possible but doesn't necessarily see him as his first or even second or third choice. We do it here, cap players once or twice to have a look then discard them. However, my mate Bill's son Russell remembers Dykes and said he always thought he would make it! Opinions, eh? Keep safe.

10 Jun 2020 14:29:13
Gus I’m hearing Stewart and Polster hoping to leave rangers.
Good business if we can move them on
Barker wants to stay lol.

10 Jun 2020 14:42:42
John25 of. course barker will want to stay. Cannot beleive he's managed to con his way into the squad in the 1st place. Still cannot get my head around that one.

10 Jun 2020 14:49:47
I keep saying a mark Allen production. My son is adamant Barker is on 10 k a week.

10 Jun 2020 15:45:41
It wouldn't surprise me John. Rossiter was on £10k a week.
No wonder Barker wants to stay.
I actually don't think polster or Stewart have had a fair crack.
Polster seems a steady enough rb.
Stewart in his 15-20 cameos gave us something different.
