Seven Degrees of Separation.

Patrick Stewart was involved in Man Utd through the basket case years.

Kevin Thelwell was involved in Everton through some basket case years.
Dan Purdy, former Head of Recruitment at Everton. Also done work experience at Liverpool.

His son, Robbie Thelwell, has been appointed Head of Recruitment at Rangers.
Scouting spell previously at Wolves where Thelwell senior previously was Sporting Director.

A promotion from his previous role at Norwich City as Technical Scouting and Loan Management. Russell Matin played for Norwich for 9 years. Gave Thelwell junior his seal of approval.

Russell Martin played for Peterborough for 2 years.
We signed Djiga on loan from Wolves.
We sign Chermiti from Everton.
Rothwell has been on loan at Southampton.
Aasgaard spent 6 years of his youth career at Liverpool.
Meghoma spent a season at Southampton.
Fernandez arrived from Peterborough.
Aarons spent 5 years at Norwich City.
We can call it paranoia/ coincidence.

But Martin himself said he spoke to friends at Norwich, and they all spoke highly of Thelwell Jr. So, it isn't a stretch to say that the others will still speak to clubs they have been associated with in the past.

We seem to have pigeonholed ourselves in a market that is overpriced.
A market the current incumbents apparently know best.
A market where the best players are hoovered up by the sides at the top of the Championship and bottom of the EPL.

A short sightedness that has got us a £3.5 million defender who hasn't been in the match day squad for months. In an area of the team that has been our Achilles heel for years.

Chased a 25+ goal a season out the door and a precocious raw talent and replaced them with a £8.5 million striker who doesn't score and a striker who had a torrid time in Spain. Until we rid ourselves of these charlatans, we are going nowhere.

If you wanted some work done at your house and your mate ran a business doing the exact work you were needing, would you go to another company rather than your mate. I'll just leave you with that thought.

20 Oct 2025 11:59:58
Can't disagree with that MPH.

20 Oct 2025 12:00:19
No not if you new he was not any good at his job or had very little experience of work at a certain level.

20 Oct 2025 12:08:59
Not quite sure it's the same thing do the bouncy, a mates a homer and comes cheaper not inflated prices hence mates rates.

20 Oct 2025 12:14:01
That is a poor analogy Bouncy!

Anyone with half a brain would go elsewhere if that other company was better. Just because you know someone means the square root of nothing if those you know are rotten at their work. ?‍♂️.

Seems to be jobs for the boys.

20 Oct 2025 12:28:43
DTB - Not if my mate was rubbish at his job :)

20 Oct 2025 12:30:35
Would rather go with the company, my mates a right cowboy.

20 Oct 2025 12:31:30
I've got a mate who is a plasterer dothebouncy and I wouldn't hire him to put icing on a cake, knowing someone that does a job and knowing they do a exceptional job are 2 different things.

DTB - Not if my mate was rubbish at his job :)

Wouldn't line his pockets to lower the value / pride I have sitting under my own roof.

Great post as always MPH. Those facts are shocking ?.

20 Oct 2025 12:56:38
Best ignoring comments like that mph, some people just can't grasp what's going on, or just don't want to. 8m on a striker that hadn't scored for 2 years, our 2nd highest ever purchase, 3.5 on a guy that wasn't ready for Sunday league football, but some don't think that's strange. ?

Personally I never get my "friends" to do jobs as it fecks up relationships if it all goes wrong, even at that it wouldn't be a friend it would be the best man for the job.

Thelwell must be hugely popular with all his friends right now as he's doing them all huge favours, what's next with this guy?

20 Oct 2025 12:57:14
Good post but they did come to a basket case of a club in us.

20 Oct 2025 13:18:39
I believe Bouncy was saying if you can get the job done to your standard by someone you already know then that is better than someone you don't know who may not get to the standard.

Being a bit harsh on fernandez here. My view is he has had a go at martin for not getting as much time. We all know what happens when you have a go at martin. He looks a unit and can score with his head something we lack. I think we will see more of him under rohl.

Bizzy you look for the best man for the job, not best friend for the job. All this bs about rigorous this, rigorous that, he's just looked at his phone to fill vacancies instead of looking at ppls CV.
