Rangers banter 67332

I’ll start off with a bit of a disclaimer. I’m not 100% sure where this rant is going to take me however I just feel I have to say something. Everyone knows this is a big year and everyone ultimately just wants to see us being successful and winning trophies. However some of the stuff I’ve seen written over the past year or so and particularly and increasingly more recently is just incredible. And I’m not saying on here in particular but social media and fan sites in general. The utter hysteria when we don’t win a match (and even in a lot cases now when we win, but not by what some folk consider to be by enough) is unbelievable and becoming unbearable. Is gotten to the point that if we fail to win I just stay off of social media and off here, not because I’m so disappointed (which of course I am) but because some of the abuse/ anger/ hatred/ nonsense that’s directed towards our own players, management, coaches and team in general is shocking and gets me so annoyed.
So far we have played 4 games and not conceded a goal, throw in the 4 proper pre-season games (I’m not including Hamilton before someone pipes up with that as it was more of a training exercise) and it’s 8 games without conceding, that’s pretty outstanding stuff actually and the best defensive start to a league we’ve made in 71 years. Yes it was disappointing not to score on Sunday and yes we all know it’s a problem we’ve had that we need to sort. However to that end we have brought in 2 forwards to try to help, they will however need some time settle in, this ain’t champ manger or FIFA, you don’t just sign a few players and they are immediately world beaters. We all know some teams will play that way against us, you saw the way they celebrated at the end. Getting a 0-0 for them was the stuff of dreams. But we won’t be the only ones it happens to, Celtic have already dropped points in a similar way and we probably both will again over the course of the season. The good thing is even if Celtic win all their games in hand we’ll both be in the same position, we’re not behind. And it’s only 4 games into the season!
Gerrard and all the coaches know there is still work to be done on breaking down teams like that and on bringing in a few more players to help do that. I’m seeing more and more posts questioning the managers position and a large number actively wanting him sacked. A couple of folk on sites this morning stated we were no better off than we were 3 years ago!? 3 years ago we were getting beat off Progress in the first qualifying round, regularly pumped by 4 or 5 goals off Celtic and finishing a very distant and scraped 3rd place! (And the standard of player was awful) I think some folk have very short memories.
I suppose in summary I’d just like to see a little more positivity and a little less of a hysterical reaction to a bad results.

slow hand clap for ‘78.

Gers1978, you've just echoed a few things I've said in posts today already. We are not miles off it, we won a pre-season tournament involving two Champions league semi-finalists, yes, I know they probably weren't at full strength, but, I'll bet they still wanted to win the tournament. We need to hold back a bit, and see where we are at Christmas, it's far too early to make assumptions either way.

Gers 1978, your post is the best of this year by a mile! Superb post and well done. You are absolutely right, far too many doom merchants posting on here. I exclude the media because they are all anti-Rangers anyway. The last time Rangers won all of their league games (100% record) was in 1898/ 99. NO TEAMS WIN EVERY GAME. We'll be alright this season so thanks again mate for your post. I do wish everyone on here was like you. Coldo take note.

Gers 1978 I tend to agree with just about everything you say I really do! Personally I try stay as positive as I can just like the points you've made above, but I do understand why some of the posters are worried because we've been here before in terms of struggling to break down teams and lacking that bit of creativity when we really need it. As it stands I'm still 100% behind the manager and team and really hope that if we're in a game like this again which no doubt we will be and its 60mins on the clock and no goals we can at least try 2 up top to change things. End of the day we're all supporters who want to win something and the support we've shown especially over the last 9 years I think we deserve a bit of luck on and off the pitch. Fingers crossed we can get maybe another 2 players in that can add and make the difference at the top end of the pitch! ✌.

Agree, a few months back some fans were claiming that we could have won the league, catching up 13 points on Celtic and winning every game. Now some are saying that we won't win the league this year when we are sitting on top of the table.

Crazy, albeit it's perfectly valid to offer up some criticism of that team on Sunday and personally I think myself that Tav just didn't look like a captain when we could have done with being rallied up, while Morelos again didn't look like a player anywhere near the board's valuation of him.

Terrifically written post which i agree with Gers1978👏The time for judgement in our management team and players is at the end of the season 👍 Superb stuff Gers1978👌.

A few preseason results, oh dear.

18 Aug 2020 16:47:04
Well done Sir!

I agree with what you say GMW. Obviously no one likes it when we have a poor result and we’d love to go through the season and win every game and at times we will be disappointed and I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be disappointed at times or annoyed by certain performances. I have just been astounded and disappointed with some of the things I’ve read on social media over the last few days (and not just about the Livi result, also in regards to the sales of Docherty and McCrorie as well) . So many ‘supporters’ just seem so quick to jump in and slate everything Rangers or Gerrard related and I just don’t understand some of the reactions. As you may guess from the name I’m 42 now and in the past it was always the case that after a poor result, yes we’d be disappointed but we’d get behind the team, move on to the next result and get behind them and show our support. Now it’s, sack the manager, sell the players, change all the tactics the moment we don’t win a game.
Not sure if it’s a consequence if social media giving everyone a voice, a general sense of entertainment/ lack of patience from a younger generation or panic in regards to the possibility of “10 in a row” for them. Or maybe a mix of all those things.

18 Aug 2020 16:56:35
* entitlement not entertainment, sorry.

And BlueWouldDo, no need to make an issue out of one thing I mentioned. I’m not highlighting preseason games as anything major. I’m merely pointing out that overall we have gone 8 games (over 720 mins of football in total) without conceding a goal. Which ain’t too bad considering all the complaints last season about how terrible half our defence (Tav and Goldson) are. So far we seem to have tightened up a bit at the back (Which I’m sure the coaching team have been working on in training) which was one thing we all felt had to happen, yet I see little praise in regards to that.

You's said let's be positive last year, the year before, the year before, the year before, the year before and oh yeah the year before. When do we start being realistic🤔👍.

18 Aug 2020 17:20:05
Gers 78 very well written. Blue would do one of them.

18 Aug 2020 17:43:34
Ummm no I didn’t coldo, especially since I’ve only been posting on here for the last two years. So please kindly take that thumb of yours and place it firmly up your arse 😁. And anyway I was merely talking about some of the over hysterical reactions and general nonsense that seem to come from some sections of our ‘support’ on social media. I’m not saying everyone should always blindly follow with fingers crossed when real change is required (ie times like when Pedro was in charge) .

18 Aug 2020 17:58:57
I said you's 78 meaning collectively not you specifically

18 Aug 2020 19:52:55
Coldo u say be realistic, have u ever read my posts when I say we will mb not win league for another two three years.
We r building, most don’t like that but I’m being realistic.

18 Aug 2020 20:24:10
SGL the time for judgement is not the end of the seaso he hasn’t learned from the year before or the year before that the end of the season they will have won 10 as that lot won’t win no league you lot can call me negative all you like as I know it’s being a realist unless we get a new captain and right back a box to box midfielder and at least one more winger we haven’t a hope in hell.
