Anybody have any ideas or thoughts on why we did not pursue Lawrence Shankland when he was at Ayr Utd? Seems crazy that he can score for fun, is a Rangers supporter and we didn't take a punt. Now we're going to have to spend some serious money to secure his services. I'm overseas and don't see or hear too much press on this guy other than his record seems to indicate that he knows where the goal is. Not a bad attribute when you think about how well Alfredo is going and where he came from. lesser league, young talent, unproven etc. I'd be keen to hear others views.

I would have have took a punt for about £200k. doesn't matter if its championship or not imo. Goals are goals.
Problem is he's not going to get much game time in our side .

Would not be great for the guys career to come and sit on bench. 3rd choice. Cummings smashed the goals in the championship. And just wasnt good enough in top league.

We currently only have 2 strikers. What happens if one is suspended and the other injured? For me Shankland would have been ideal and wouldn’t have cost much.

I wonder why no big club went for him in the summer? Plenty of clubs north and south of the border could do with a good goalscorer, the fact he ended up at Dundee utd says a lot to me.

Du Dee utd are paying him a fortune that's why. Blew other clubs out the water he's apparently miles away there top earner on 5 grand a week according to a boy he played with at ayr.

Souness, i know what you're saying mate, but because it didn't really work out for nicky clark, doesn't mean it would be the same for lawrence shankland. Everyone is different and we just don't know if shankland could make the step up, but we'll never know if we don't take a punt. You just never know, we could have the next ally mccoist on our hands, or like you said the next nicky clark. I would take the chance and sign him and see what happens.
He would choose rangers over celtic as he's a big bluenose.

All you doom merchants out there who say shankland only scores goals because he is in a lesser league. He can only score goals in the league he is playing in. If he isn't given a chance at a bigger club how can he possibly prove himself. In that case we would never have bought Davie Cooper from clydebank (and before all the naysayers start I am not trying to compare him with the maestro) . I simply mean that you can never prove yourself if you are not given a chance. I don't think the boy would be expecting to start every week in front of alfie or jermaine defoe. He just simply needs a chance to show if he is capable at a higher level. ONWARDS AND UPWARDS THE FAMOUS.

The lad has been around, including a spell with the sheep and didn't set the heather on fire. That said, he may be a late developer. The only problen is we would have to deal with that shower. I'd rather we didn't tbh.

5 grand a week for teams down in England is f*ck all. Does anyone remember adam rooney, who played for the sheep. He went down to Salford and is meant to be £8 grand a week! To suggest Dundee united blew other teams out the water on wages just seems like nonsense.

Simply put, we don't want to secure his services as he is nowhere near good enough and is scoring a few goals at the level he's suited to. At 24 he's hardly a kid, Morelos was just 20 when he came to Rangers and he's a proven scorer and proper striker at the level we need.

I didn't say they didn't, that would be top of there structure though and they obviously weren't interested at the wsges utd would pay him. We should have took s punt and loaned him to an spl team for a year.
