OrangeT, I believe your post about me bigging up Scandinavian players quite a lot deserves a response:
I have always been clear that my suggestions would be players I have knowledge of. My suggestions will always be skewed towards Scandinavia and Germany as unfortunately I do not have an in depth knowledge of every league in Europe.
I have some knowledge of France and the Balkans and minimal of Israel.
I rely on good posters like yourself to supplement the discussion with other names that you are aware of.
I would also like to clear another thing up:
Not once during my post have I slated Connor Barron. I like the boy. I enjoy his tenacity and terrier spirit.
I said he is not the 6 we need. That is at this very moment in time, he may develop into the 6 we need long term but I would not like to put that pressure on him immediately.

I don't think you need to come on and justify any of your posts, doesn't matter what any of us say there will always be someone of the opposite opinion and don't think it's ever meant to be personal.
Connor Barron in my view has been our stand out player over the last 5/6 games along with Jack Butland (Hearts game aside) and that's worrying in itself.
But you are also correct in that he is not the fulltime #6 that the club needs presently, we need a leader in this position and he's not quite there.
You can only pass on info on players you have knowledge of and we all know that the Scandinavian market is full of great prospects so keep the names coming.
Can I ask what your thoughts on Daniel Karlsbakk is?

I agree, I like Barron and I love his attitude, but he is not good enough if we want to reach the levels of winning titles and doing well in Europe again. Squad player at best.

Good response Aphelion, you can only share based on what u know and it's probably from leagues we know little about so gives good alternatives. Others free to share who they like too.
Re Barron, I like him but, a bit like Butland debate, yes we could have better but there are other bigger areas that need fixed 1st.
Since Rohl arrived Barron has probably been our best mid. At the moment he is working while the rest of our attacking mids and forwards aren't. Why go for another 6 when 7,8,9,10,11 aren't doing good enough?

I disagree and believe we need a player like that in our side.
Raskin is not being as combative as we need there so Barron has stepped up and showed up well in breaking up the play and keeping it simple.
I think if he had better players around him like a better option than Diomande then he would only get better as well.
At the moment he is one of our top performers who often gets man of the match so why would we be looking to replace him.
It's other areas of midfield and the pitch where we need to be better for me.

Barron for me is ( as Eric C would say) a water carrier. full of energy and commitment, which if channelled the right way in a good team should allow 'better' players to express themselves.
Every team needs one.

Club 72 - the wee man is improving game by game and there is NO reason why he couldn't win a title or do well in Europe IMHO. ? its the rest of the drivel who pull on the jersey that are the real ones stopping major progress.

Agree Bar72. That's what I believe is the issue. Suddenly everyone is meant to be a baller. Split passes, 80 yard passes, beat a man, quick in thought etc. The boy wears his heart on his sleeve and should be there to protect and break up.
He is not the 6 we need but again I don't think numbers. We need a player with guile that's it.

If we keep Barron as a back up he won't fulfil his potential as a player and also he will likely ask to leave costing us to lose out on what he'd be worth in 18 months.
If we play Barron he improves if we don't he doesn't so we play him enjoy him and sell him. That's what the club is about now.
I actually seen a lot yesterday of what Barron can offer as an 8. I wonder if that would be his best position. Total box to box but without the goals. Gattusso as I always have said.

I agree but that's our problem, our best player has been a player that is not good enough if we want to reach the levels of winning titles and doing well in Europe again. Speaks volumes about the rest of the squad and is exactly why we are in the position we are in. Our recruitment over the last few years has been abysmal.

Dada thank you, and in terms of Daniel Karlsbakk i feel he should definitely stay in Norway for the time being.
He is a striker who has just had his first ever prolific season and I feel that he needs to show it is not just a one off.
I think we only need to look at Miovski, good for Aberdeen but not so good for really anyone else.

Rosevale yet again i must stress i have never said Barron needs replaced.
I believe we need to bring in a No6 who is ready made shall we say to allow Barron to develop without the pressure of being the sole responsibility.
I do think we need to now look to sell Raskin and Diomande and reinvest into the squad.

Club but he isn't good enough in your opinion. and since like my opinion it isn't worth anything. the manager has him in almost every starting 11 and he reportedly has lots of scouts watching him from Italy so some people with actual football knowledge and insight think he is a player.
add to that he has improved since he came to us so the coaching he is getting is obviously working.
so there is more growth as well. I think he is more than a water carrier as well but tbh it didn't do Deschamps any harm being labelled with that title.
we need to improve on the fringe players who aren't getting minutes not getting rid of the ones who are performing.

He isn't good enough but just on the fringe of the Scotland set up. Dio and Raskin aren't performing, so who is good enough? I see his strengths and what he brings. We've one 1 title in 13 years and got to 1 European final and a quarter final in 13 years. Must have had pretty crap players in between going by squad required to win the league and do well in Europe. Remember Sir Walter and chick conversation.
Manager plays him to utilise his strengths. Put a couple of guile players in there that play from mid to front and let him do the dirty work of disrupting mid to our back line whilst covering gaps left by our over lapping FB"s opps sorry wing backs. If we had guile players actually applying their trade, he wouldn't have to do half the things he does.

In my honest opinion I don't believe Hjertø-Dahl is a true 6, to be utilized properly I wouldn't ask him to sit back and protect and dictate.
I would love someone like Niklas Dorsch or similar who can play the Rodri role.
I see Hjertø-Dahl playing more of a Declan Rice sort of role.
A 6/8 hybrid type.

How is it when people have different opinions that go against the party line they somehow know nothing about football??. Uno reverse and those who think Barron will be a title winning key player know nothing about football. ?
Barron may be attracting interest but that does not mean he is a player to take Rangers forward.
There are plenty on here who have backed better than Barron to be a Rangers star only to end up looking silly. I could use plenty of examples and Angus you backed PC and Martin. So enough said there.
Souttar is in the Scotland Squad and he isn't good enough. Aasgaard is in the Norway squad and he isn't good enough. Dio is in the oh wait.
Talking about snobbery coops, you do remember Ferguson?

Yes, club i do remember very well at the time my comments on not wanting lewis Ferguson and i have on a good few occasions mate stated i got that one totally wrong and absolutely hold my hands up to that one. ? He's proved me wrong and has proved he's a very good midfielder and one that i'd now definitely want at Rangers ???.

Stevie he definitely can play as an 8, I do see him developing into a good No6 in the future though. As I said I think he is a great squad rotation player for the 6 position but not at the level where we can put all reliance and pressure on him.
If he is to play as an 8 I would like to see him add goals to his game.

Aphe I agree we should sign a ready made 6 mate. I agree. I would rotate Raskin and Barron for the right sided 8 tile the summer and I would sell Raskin then and let Barron take his place.
I would sell Diomande now. It's just not happening for him I fb everyone is absolutely honest, it's probably going to just fizzle out and he'll not even start if he stays. £6m would be my asking price. Hope for the best.
