Question for everybody, have again seen posts offering names and again people saying not Rangers class, just what is Rangers class, forget about the glory days, in today's world just what are we expecting. Would the spl players being mentioned make us worse than the drivel we have.
I don't believe so, does having a foreign name or coming from overseas or from over the border make them quality.
I for one would take players for example like devlin, Bowie, shankland, Watson etc in a heartbeat.
Tried, tested mabye some not the total finished article but were all of Walter's signings from our league back in the day, no but they stepped up a gear when they joined us.
Time to get realistic and not shoot them down instantly.
Would signing a name like del bowie or devlinazza make to a difference to some, think it would. We can't see the forest for the trees sometimes.

We should always have a core of young/experienced homegrown players mate that understands the values and demands to play for us, whether that's through our academy or buying in the spl, problem is they have to be good enough.
22 Dec 2025 17:56:34
Big Gogic is a no brainer for me. Tough as nails, plays in a few positions, dangerous in the oppositions box, sound in his own box and a battler.
22 Dec 2025 18:00:38
I agree. Gone are the good old days of a core of Dutch international players. Our team with gogic, Devlin, Watson, Bowie and shankland would be tremendously stronger. Add in maswanhise in attack and the top scorer in the championship, mcpake on the wing and we would be a million times stronger and flexible than what we have with our current 30 million pounds squad. All of these boys shouldn't come to more than 10 million.
Gogic 500k, Devlin is free in ten days, Watson 1 mil, Bowie 2 mil, shankland 3 million, maswa 750k and mcpake 750k. Or should we keep Chermiti 8 mil, Aasgaard 4.5 mil, Cortes 4.5 mil, Dowell, Matondo, Rothwell. It's obvious that we would be better buying from other Scottish teams. We had boyd, mccann, Dodds, McGregor, weir, pressley, Miller all from rivals. Closer to home is where we should be looking.
22 Dec 2025 18:24:25
Can't see the jams selling us shankland now as they have a very good chance of winning the league. their fans would go into an uproar. Devlin only because he is free unless he signs a contract prior to the window.
then it would be a summer signing. and for me shanklands time has gone. should have taken him for free. and bowie is also a no from me. but you never know.
22 Dec 2025 18:34:16
I agree guys better signing tried and trusted that can play in this Scottish league and can do it domestically first and foremost and Europe can come later with other signings ?I think cammy devlin, gogic, watson, bowie would all be good signings for us and we need to forget this patter now ie. 'rangers class'?those days are gone guys ?.
22 Dec 2025 18:41:10
Wineonthewine, I agree completly with your post, but our main problem would then come from our foreign players refusing to move on because of the money we pay them, cash is king, but surely they have a bit of pride to move on, rather than hang on by there nails.
22 Dec 2025 18:54:44
You say you would take all they players in a heart beat until you get them all and we are still a team battling for third or even second behind the other mob and then the board would get accused of a lack of ambition. We would not win the league with that level of a player as the other mob will continue to throw money at winning, this season has been a fluke.
They have a few Scots but they have mostly come through their Academy so they bring not just knowledge of the league but also knowledge of the club. Its not about class its about ambition, we shouldn't let Martin /Thelwell disastrous strategy send us too much in the opposite direction. There must be a balance, like we have had in the past.
22 Dec 2025 19:07:33
my only question would be we have bought the 'best' of Scottish players we could afford and none of those have worked out. Yes I know we go on about Ferguson etc but those didn't work out and we have no clue as to whether they would withstand the demands.
so my point is we have had a lot of the best available but haven't done any better.
who is to say this group would succeed just because they play well in the league for other Scottish sides.
they don't get the same hassle from fans if they draw or lose; completely different ball park. the same applies to overseas and English players as well I know.
so the issue is still the same: how do we know they have the right mentality.
22 Dec 2025 19:28:38
Hearts have built and almost title winning side on 1.3mill. Weve spent over 20mill to make us considerably worse.
22 Dec 2025 19:34:47
There's been a lot of talk about Ferguson though. Seems to be ramping up with all the chat that's going on.
22 Dec 2025 19:48:11
I've watched Bowie a few times and got to say apart from being physical I haven't saw a lot to think he's dangerous or a good finisher, is he quick?
Fair enough with maybe Shankland who we didn't and won't go for now, Gocic again good battler but with us wanting to dictate the game is he comfortable in possession.
Cammy Devlin again no as we have a similar player in Barron, we need more quality around him though.
I don't see Rangers players in those three and it's nothing to do with snobbery.
The boy Watson I haven't watched closely so can't comment.
All about opinions of course.
22 Dec 2025 19:55:11
A Rangers team with logic devlin Watson maybe do better but ain't winning trophies.
22 Dec 2025 19:56:17
Ambition doesn't come into it at this present time, improvement does, mentality and graft are what we lack in abundance, and I would rather see the players named above who have shown they have this than keep spending daft money on players we hope can cope or even come good in the future.
I, m not saying this is a long term strategy but one to implement right now to somewhat steady the ship and not go out panic buying and overpaying, we need so many new players and these boys would be realistic and allow us the scope to bring in better in future windows.
22 Dec 2025 20:32:42
Shota but we need to buy for that long-term strategy now. so buy a bit of experience in the key positions and players to develop alongside them. so Dessers and Iga being a recent example but then we sold both.
still think we have some talented young players who need experienced support with the right character alongside them.
or we change them all again and start afresh but there is no guarantee there. how many recruitment teams now have tried but supposedly failed. I know they all underestimated the league but that isn't and wasn't the case. the demands are high and we can't afford the starters in every position who are experienced in those positions imo.
22 Dec 2025 20:33:55
I'd take Keenan Adam's the Falkirk RB as well. He's low cost, low risk and is having a better season than anything we have at RB. Better coaching, better players around him he'd be absolutely fine and if not you could move him on.
22 Dec 2025 21:11:16
I'm not saying we don't buy for the long term, but these type of players don't come easy or cheap, I would rather see the types named above with one or two real quality players as well when actually available, but to get a whole new team, of which we do require when facing the truth is not going to happen anytime soon, this team is mince no matter how hopeful some are.
This window for me is a short term fix and can only improve the overall squad but this real quality type of player acquisition will take a good few windows.
22 Dec 2025 22:14:11
so does the short term fix mean we don't try to win the title as filling the team with players who play for lower teams in the league won't win us it. There might be a few we can develop or even fit in but we have a team of those already.
there is no guarantee any of the players you mention can handle the demands of this club.
they don't have to do it with their current clubs. it is that demand that potentially turns good players into poorer ones. that and poor coaching by Martin. so continue to build, tear down, throw away at a loss and rebuild.
so like with Keenan Adams would better players around our young team not improve them?
22 Dec 2025 22:44:31
Orange T, what's the talk about Ferguson? No chance he will sign, valued at £20m.
22 Dec 2025 22:57:27
I agree we have to look more closely at home based players. For me, Gogic, Shankland and Mulligan were players at low cost that we should/could have got. But in Barron, Raskin and Dio we have very strong midfield that worked really well especially under Ferguson. Do any of the other teams have better? Having to play 3 at the back due to weak full backs and CBs and not having a striker to hold up the ball, score regularly or bring others into the game must be having an impact on their form.
We have too many 'number 10s' that don't really impact the game enough. If Raskin or Barron go then Watson could replace but I don't think he is better. Also, as a fan base would we be happy with the lump the ball forward and chase philosophy that most other teams prefer whilst being happy giving the other team the ball? At the end of the day Hearts did not outclass us but they outfought and out thought us. But yes, many fans need to realise 'not good enough ' is in different context now.
22 Dec 2025 23:02:47
Ferguson isn't coming to Rangers and what has Bowie actually done to earn a move to Rangers? Score one good goal in Europe? His goal scoring stats are poor.
22 Dec 2025 23:54:08
Here here Storm! Well said pal.
Rangers review also stating we should move for Devlin and Findlay and I was like are you having a laugh, becasue we are performing poorly due to awful summer recruitment we now want bang average players off Hearts just because they are leading the league.
23 Dec 2025 07:01:38
Marvelous Marvin andrews.
23 Dec 2025 08:49:19
the problem is that playing against Rangers is totally different than playing for Rangers, take the shankland goal for example, a simple over the top ball beats our defence. how many times do we get into an opposition box and there is only 3 defenders, zero. by the time we get the ball forward we have 8 or nine in the box.
23 Dec 2025 09:59:27
McBurnie current stats worth considering, Teds fan and a big bruiser.
23 Dec 2025 12:48:19
I think that we need the Four players we are rumoured to be signing in the January window to be first team ready players but it should not stop us from also signing a guy like Watson on a pre contract. If he comes in this window as well as those four, it will give him time to settle plus he has already played regularly in this league so he will give us another option if needed.
If he waits until the summer then that's fine too.
