Anybody else think Halliday looked really sharp when given more freedom to attack last night?

20 Jul 2016 18:58:22
he gave thee ball away loads, couldn't control the ball to save himself.

20 Jul 2016 19:10:58
Always been a harsh critic of Haliday and feel he hasn't started preseason well enough if you think about how tallented our midfield is can't see him getting anywhere near the big games with the likes of barton and rossiter to come.

20 Jul 2016 19:24:51
He looked a lot more confident in the more attacking role! I've also been a critic of him but In his defence he's never claimed to be a dm! He must be doing something right in training because I can't see MW letting him near the team just because he's a fan favourite.

20 Jul 2016 19:56:28
I think he is responding positively to competition for a place in the side. There will be no natural choices this season.

20 Jul 2016 23:18:03
I hope he responds to the competition cause if he puts in performances like last year in a lower league he's going to spend a lot of time on the bench, never been to keen on him but will give him a chance!

20 Jul 2016 17:23:19
Hello Bears, just wanted to share my opinion on McCay, this lad has the potential to be a top top player, he has it all in his locker, this season I think will be his most important in regards to his development and hopefully he has the bottle for it too as AT&T some point this season he may hit a lull, but having someone like Warbs AND Weir behind him could see him get better and better. I think McCay needs to spend the next 4 yrs at Ibrox! Seriously Bears this guy could go all the way, it's sad to say but he will need to leave at some stage to further his career and that's just due to the fact that Scottish Football is holding us back. Don't want to get carried away but in MY opinion McCay CAN become a great player.

20 Jul 2016 17:33:40
We signed a new player or something?

20 Jul 2016 19:17:52
You know who he's talking about Mcdermid. Lol šŸ˜.

20 Jul 2016 22:02:15
Don't let him off that easy- iv endured years of being called mccay rather than McKay- and not just by English people. Really annoyingšŸ‘¹.

21 Jul 2016 10:47:24
How can you tell the difference through speech?

20 Jul 2016 15:36:22
So the gaffer said he's still looking to add another 2 players to the squad. And the names that have been floating around apparently aren't his targets. Keeping his cards close to his chest eh! Who would use like to see brought in.?

20 Jul 2016 16:09:44
A non brain dead centre back.

20 Jul 2016 15:35:11
We should go for berbatov would be great signing free transfer boy would be class for us.

20 Jul 2016 19:44:00
For what is expected of us this season and no Euro football we don't need him, by sayin that I mean that this season is prob the only one that Warbs has more breathing space in terms of expectations. I never want to finish 2nd BUT this season is part of the rebuild! I do think deep down the way things are shaping up that we have a great chance of the title, so even tho I would like to see Berbatov at Ibrox, would rather see the young guys getting game time and from a financial point of view, not a Wise move. I like Berbatov btw.

20 Jul 2016 22:09:19
At time of typing- 2 agrees (assume one is poster) 10 disagrees. Yeah great idea. Someone call DK immediately.

20 Jul 2016 13:57:06
Lord Nicklas Bendtner.

20 Jul 2016 14:18:08
Not for me, lazy and thinks he's brilliant when he's really nothing special at all.

20 Jul 2016 14:31:42
I'd like to think that now we've signed Joe Dodoo that he'll be our first choice striker, a player who can put the ball in the back of the net. Throwing more and more players into the mix is going to complicate matters. As it is, there'll be a few good players in the squad not making it onto the bus for games and Warburton has consistently said this creates its own problems. Yes we need another centre back but we should stop there.

20 Jul 2016 22:10:06
Bentner is an even worse suggestion than berbatov.

20 Jul 2016 12:50:52
Hi fellow bears new to the site
At the game last night great atmostphere
McKay played super, hodson played
Not bad a good clearance waghorn
Played good and Barton and kranjcar played
Good as well. can't wait for the gers next
Home match.

20 Jul 2016 13:23:57
Was really impressed with Hodson, up and down a bit like Tav. Very composed on the ball and unlucky not to get on score sheet. My man of the match. Halliday impressive and the hunger of Forrester when he came on superb! Think he may be a key player this season. What a find from the hat. didn't look like a player in his first couple of appearances! Going for 55!

20 Jul 2016 14:02:35
I was impressed with Hodson and thought Halliday had a fantastic game. really not sure if he deliberately baits players into snapping at him. he delays his pass just enough for the opposition to put a shoe in, but he does it almost every game! I personally don't like Mckay on the left. He's too predictable (think he used his left twice to get an actual cross in) he walks up to a player and then passes it back to the ever present wallace, and back, and forth and repeat in 5minutes. I liked Windass a lot, he was direct and free running. But hogged the ball a bit. He will settle though.

20 Jul 2016 15:55:55
Link up between Wallace and McKay is one of key aspects to our play.

20 Jul 2016 16:42:10
Thought all players played well - we are not yet into the season proper, and players still getting to know each other. The enthusiasm and team spirit was there for all to see. Windass was a tad keen, but can't fault him for that. O'Halloran showed us what he is capable of. Kranjcar oozed class and so did Waggie. Barton will become very good but wasn't really last - do not want to be too judgemental on him as he has not seen a ball for a wee while.

All in all very pleased with team - 6.5/ 10.

20 Jul 2016 19:21:36
Let's not get carried away. Last night's game was against a team two divisions below us at home and we only scored two goals. I will be in games against Celtic, Hearts, Aberdeen etc., that e need to see top performances from all of our players. McKay is certainly capable of this and consistency has to be his goal but given the quality of midfield players we now have at our disposal, Barton, Kranjcer and Rossiter, Halliday will be hard pressed to be in the first eleven. He had a good game last night but he was poor against Motherwell.

20 Jul 2016 19:21:46
O'hallaron really? Poorest performer by a country mile. I hope he proves me wrong but I font see him cutting it at rangers.

20 Jul 2016 12:44:31
Could the new centre back be rob holding? Arsenal about to buy from Bolton but will look to loan him out? Again contacts we have in arsenal no through zelalem deal. We want a centre back, they're loaning a centre back. Maybe 2+2 = 5 with this but just a thought.

19 Jul 2016 18:10:46
BBC at it again - 'Rangers fans angry after Siri says club is four years old'

Article suggesting that when you do a Siri voice search on iPhone, "When were Rangers formed? ", you get Dec 2012 not 1972.
I have tried it a number of ways, including directly to the search engine Siri uses and cannot get it to give this answer. I guess the clue is in the screen shot in the article that talks of Rangers International Football Club which was indeed formed in 2012.

Am I angry? Nope - Gers just signed 9th new player and 3 more extended. On Saturday I watch Nico pass better than I have seen in Scotland for many years and all is right. Not angry just a bit sad that this is the best we can expect from our state broadcaster.

20 Jul 2016 13:03:45
Also they the BBC will not do a match report on their website they did however give reports on Dundee its and st mitten but not the premiership team rangers again shame on you bbc!

20 Jul 2016 12:07:03
Thought performance was ok last nite, still think we pass the ball 2 much round opposition box, need 2 b more direct sometimes, do u think we'll ever put corner in box but all in all looking good 4 55.

20 Jul 2016 12:06:31
I'm really happy with the squad so far. The options we now have are quite incredible. I think another CB will do for me and just keep Hardie in the 1st team. I think between Dodoo, Waggy and Miller we'll have enough there.
The midfield is looking as good as it's done for many a year. I feel sorry for Haliday, Forreter and Holt because I can see the midfield 3 being Barton, Rossiter and Kranjcar for the big games, but I'm sure they'll still get plenty of game time.
The more a look at our squad the more I think it's better than that other mobs. Theirs is bloated with mediocre talent, ours is perfectly balanced and full of different attacking options. Gordon and Griffiths are the only 2 that would make my team if am honest. Kierney is a player but I'd rather have Wallace any day of the week. If they pay anywhere near Ā£6m for Sinclair I will laugh till it hurts. Desperate.

20 Jul 2016 13:41:13
Hey Recbob - I don't think we can base any details on Rossiter until he actually plays for us . Right now I have no doubt in my mind that Halliday is a starter for us and Rossiter, Holt et all will have a job getting him out the team if he continues to play like this. Worried for wee holty tbh. Starting to think that Crooks will be played as CB.

20 Jul 2016 14:11:33
Couldn't agree more teddyofthesouth let the boy come in and settle see how he does few posters on here building him up big time, don't get me wrong I hope he comes in and is a superstar but just give him time. Was very impressed by the team last night even if the opposition wasn't great. One thing I do think is MOH has to get his head up more and pass the ball round a defender his pace is lightning and he ran onto a few through balls which worked well for us just feel he puts his head down and runs into defenders sometimes. Other than that it was all good.

20 Jul 2016 14:17:51
Crooks won't be played CB unless there are injuries. Hardie would be better loaned out this year because he would only get a handful of appearances for us if he is lucky. Would be great if he went down south playing regular in league 1 or 2. Or even at a club like St Mirren or Dunfermline who will be looking to replace El Bahktaoui.

20 Jul 2016 15:01:11
The gaffer has already said hardie will go out for another loan, as will most of the under 20,s.

20 Jul 2016 17:26:50
I'm not saying Hardie will stay, just that I would prefer that to bringing in another striker. If someone else comes in then they would only be getting the same game time as Hardie would get anyway, as I'm sure Waggy and Dodoo will be competing for that starting slot.
Ive seen Rossiter play about 5 games now all in and I personally think he will go right into the first team. He's on the same cash as Barton and didn't leave Liverpool 1st team squad to come up and sit on our bench. He will have been giving assurances before he signed that he is seen as a 1st pick. In my opinion he's our highest profile signing of the summer. Everyone at Liverpool bar Klopp reckons this guys the next Gerrard, I personally think he's more like B Ferguson from what I've seen.

20 Jul 2016 22:12:05
When's this bronze statue of mcpartland getting errected then recbob?

21 Jul 2016 09:36:23
I agree with that about Rossiter, he is more of a regista style player who likes to sit deep and dictate play with quick passing, whereas Gerrard took the game by the scruff of the neck and made things happen all over the park in his prime.

20 Jul 2016 11:37:55
I'd enquirer about Andy Weimann, penalty box striker. Was good at villa when broke through, few folk suprised they sold him to derby, fell away a little, now behind bent, Martin, Blackman, so perfect warbs signing, young hungry but falling away a little. Just a thought bears.

20 Jul 2016 11:56:35
I'd be looking at some of the youngsters man utd are about to let leave strikers will keane and james wilson and defender Tyler blackett. And probably paddy mcnair.

20 Jul 2016 12:44:18
Would take wilson or mcnair, but tyler blackett is a comedian of a center half. Even showed that during his loan at celtic last year.

20 Jul 2016 14:22:20
Weimann is not a penalty box striker. He is hard working and puts in a lot of running but lacks that guile it takes to pick up lots of goals. He gets played wide mostly, even when he was at Villa.

Also, he moved to Derby for over 3 million and is contracted until 2019.

20 Jul 2016 10:32:09
Really, really pleased with last night - the place was buzzing with anticipation.

Kranjcar's performance was superb, as was Mckay, O'Halloran, Forrester, Haliday, Waghorn and Wallace.

the rest did really well considering they had not played a match game for months and were not match fit.

Onwards and upwards.

20 Jul 2016 11:48:07
No mention for Windass? I've seen some clowns remarking that he was poor. He isn't match fit but always wants the ball and can beat a player and find a pass. He will be one of our most important players this year as he will score a lot of goals. He moves constantly, pops up everywhere and is always in the six yards box (where Waggy should be) when a ball goes in there.

20 Jul 2016 11:56:32
I did not mention, by name, Barton either, but he certainly got the crowd going when his name was mentioned. Both he and Windass will be greats for Rangers, in my opinion, thought they both did ok, however taking into account that they had not played for a while, especially Barton, then the future looks RED, WHITE and BLUE.

Luvvly Jubbly.

20 Jul 2016 12:00:37
don't think we watched the same game halliday and wahgorn absolutely woeful both gave the ball away countless amounts of time. windass, hodson, mckay and kranjcar played well.

20 Jul 2016 12:04:33
Meant to add, that should have been a straight red card for the tackle against Haliday! Do hope it has not set the standard for this year, as it was last year.

20 Jul 2016 12:48:46
Admittedly wasn't at last nights game but surely if we had 7 Superb performances we should be beating Annan more easily.
Another post suggests Annan hardly got a touch. In that case something must've been wrong with our performance . did we not create enough or was finishing poor.
Or are people getting carried away again?

20 Jul 2016 13:25:31
Saw the game . It was so one-sided its untrue very hard to play against 11 defenders and the keeper played a blunder for me MOH of whom I had my doubts is looking much better than last year in all I think we have improved so much over the last few years and I am looking forward to every match I'm not sure about all the negative comments on our defence and how we will be punished by better rams? Who are they then? I know we won't win a our games but like last season we will dominate all the matches with possesion and shots like we did last year in my opinion we just need a bit more luck in front of goal and that will happen!

20 Jul 2016 09:49:33
I think that game didn't take off the way it should have but good fitness from the guys annan hardly even touched the ball. especially impressed with McKay think he will go on to bigger things in his career but hope that's not for years to come.

20 Jul 2016 10:23:43
Was especially impressed with niko kranjcar last night, the big guy oozes class, his range of passing looks as if it's going to be a real asset, windass also looks a terrific prospect.

20 Jul 2016 10:42:15
I thought Windass was the best player on the park last night. Very direct and always wanted to go forward.

20 Jul 2016 12:47:14
after McKay and niko I think windass was up there last night his first touch was really goog he has clever feet and has good vision and forrester when he came on was really lively.

20 Jul 2016 12:57:52
There isn't much bigger things than playing for us.
Mckay Fantastic again!

20 Jul 2016 09:09:16
Can't believe I missed the first half last night due to that bloody chaos on the mate >: ( got to Ibrox just in time for the second half, took my grandad along as he doesn't get to go to much games now. We did both enjoy ourselves even if it was only for 45mins and although the team were a little bit rusty it was still great football to watch (well from rangers side of things, hate teams that set up with 10/ 11 behind the ball)

20 Jul 2016 06:37:13
Although it was only annan athletic last night after paying particular attention to our 37 year old centre half clint hill it was very noticeable that this guy is an organiser and very good communicator, especially with big kiernan who he was continually in dialogue with the full game and actually talking him through the game for which he looked a more assured defender, you can see a mile off the hill has great experience and played at a very high level of english football, he looks fit and would be a first pick for me, imo clint hill strolled through the game and will in scottish football in general, harry redknapp told us as much when he signed for us as harry was his manager at QPR, looks another accomplished signing by 'the magic hat'

20 Jul 2016 08:24:24
You can only judge him in the premiership let's see how he gets on against a quick striker. Annan offered very little going forward and the same won't be said for Celtic, Aberdeen or Hearts. Far too early to be talking like that.

20 Jul 2016 09:12:53
Davie weir wasn't quick biffo, I agree with u warbs, I said the other day that both our central defenders were still young for the position they play and still had a lot to learn, they should learn from hill and whoever else comes in.

20 Jul 2016 09:18:00
There is no way the defence can be judged for having a 'good display' against Annan, jumping the gun. If we looked ropey against them I'd be more than a little worried.

Hill no doubt has experience and is a communicator but to be honest, I was never a fan before he came here, always saw him as a liability in defence whenever I seen him in the QPR lineup. let's hope its a different story against SPL opposition. He just isn't very mobile, petty rigid looking defender.

20 Jul 2016 09:19:27
Weir was a better player than Hill.

20 Jul 2016 09:24:51
What did Annan offer up front? First half they hardly crossed the half way line and although marginally better second half they still offered very little. Not having a go at the defence just think it's too early to judge how good the signing of Hill will be.

20 Jul 2016 12:46:15
As much of legend Sir Davie is, he wasn't immune to a balls up when he played in defence. I remember a good few times when he was caught out by an attackers pace. He made plenty of mistakes too. Overall he was solid but he is human.

20 Jul 2016 12:49:37
matt gilks touched the ball like 3 times in the whole game so doubt we can say good things about the defence yet!

id still be looking for another cb with more quality!

does anyone know if we are taking the big american.

20 Jul 2016 00:07:00
Watched Gers game tonight in bluebells bar in Costa teguise lanzarote. Place was jumping and I mean jumping, there were people sat on wall at back trying to watch the game it was so busy! A pleasure to be there and to see so many fellow bears in full force!
