As the season now heads towards its conclusion, its safe to look ahead towards the future.
Our players, each and everyone, are now legends at the club for what we have achieved this year.
Looking to the future, we need to continue to improve. We should be looking at slavia as a benchmark of where we have to be as a minimum next season if we are to get into the champions league and continue to grow as a club.
I think we have missed ryan jack badly, and this has been added with the poor form of arfield since his return from injury. It has really highlighted the need for more strength and depth in midfield. In particular a deep lying midfielder (Zungu was signed to be this however i don't feel he is good enough), and a number 8 style midfielder.
The question is where do we look and who should the club be looking at for these positions.
Apart from that i feel its really just going to be about replacing any players who move on. Hopefully we can keep the base of the team with only 1 or 2 moving. In particular we should do whatever we can to keep morelos happy at the club.

I liked the look of the braga midfielder Fransergio who scored there first goal at ibrox. He’s 30 don’t know his value or if we could afford him.

In my opinion we need to sign a goalscorer as I think Alfredo will move on, we need a rock solid centre half to play alongside Connor Goldson and we need a flair player in the middle of the park.
I would also look to sign a back up right back, allowing Paterson to head out on loan to get some game time and experience under his belt.

I think a CB could be a useful signing however for me we are at our best when helander plays. I think balogun will move on in the summer so then we cam look to sign another quality CB and have Katic in as the cover, with chances are Edmundson will move on.

Would agree about a striker as we will lose Defoe and maybe Morelos. That would leave us with only 2 who both haven’t been overly impressive so far.

DotheBouncy, there used to be a saying in football 'If you're good enough, you're old enough'. I remember specifically that phrase being used to describe a 16 year-old Denis Law. Surely Patterson can be given a chance as should other younger players, otherwise how do they ever break through if they are constantly loaned out to the likes of Raith Rovers, Arbroath or whoever (with all respect to these teams) . I do agree that if Alfie moves on then we must make a marque signing striker and more cover at centre back. Happy times though after the torment of the last few years!

Guys, there are 2 positions that need strengthening that is not mentioned often if ever. It is always midfielders or forwards that are spoken about. What about the fullback positions. On Sunday we were left with a CB playing fullback. We have Tavernier and Patterson, both injured to some extent. On the other side we have Barasic and Bassey. If Barasic gets injured seems to leave us in the same position as right fullback. IMO we require more cover for the fullback position.

Why would be bring in another CB when we have just signed Simpson for next season, unless SG reckons big Niko needs a season on loan

Itten is obviously not going to be a mainstay going forward, might be wrong of course, ( unlikely I know) but I can’t see him making the grade here,
Aribo has brought a lot but is a classic hit and miss player who isn’t strong enough for midfield at Europe level but is very tricky up front, sometimes, but other times he is an empty shirt, probably time for a change for him too
Jack is great but will always struggle but he will be here for a long time yet, and when Alf goes 2 strikers are required, imo Nesbit should be one of them, with a bigger name alongside
And I also think Helander and Balogun need replacement.

Doiger, you are spot on correct in what you say, couldn't agree more. That's why I would send Paterson out on loan as he is not good enough yet to be given the right back position if Tavernier is not available. Don't get me wrong, he has shown signs that he will be good enough but he needs a bit of experience and toughened up a bit. A year playing away from Rangers will make him a better player.

Totally agree Tom, thought it was only me and coldo that weren't fans of aribo, love Jack but his injuries are really a big concern.
