What about alex mcleish's article last night
that sir alex ferguson was toying with the idea of signing barry ferguson, when he was at blackburn rovers, after consistently playing superb for them and dominating the midfield area. Sir alex was very interested in signing baz for manchester utd, what a compliment that is 👌Just my opinion, but i truly think barry had the undoubted ability to play for manchester utd or any top club, in the english premiership at that particular time, when he was playing for blackburn. He was a fantastic midfielder, who absolutely dominated games in the engine room 👍
What's our thoughts fellow bears?

I think everybody knows what I think of Barry, coops. He could have played in any team in the world. Brilliant player.

29 Sep 2020 08:35:11
Don't think he'd have got in that Riga team, they are something else.

29 Sep 2020 08:57:55
liverpool tried to sign him on a few occasions.

29 Sep 2020 09:14:23
Definitely feel he was underestimated, probably due to the fact he didn't come from South of the border. Magnificent player who could have stepped into any midfield of the time.

His performance and free kick in the 2002 Scottish cup final was one of the best I have ever witnessed in all my years going to the games. That performance alone is enough to prove his class and why he was so highly thought of as a player.

Legend👍.

Barry was truly outstanding. I always think there’s maybe a place for Barry at rangers as a coach or something as he knows what is required at our club.

29 Sep 2020 10:44:29
Welcome back Supercoop. I agree with everything you say. Barry was a fantastic player, a great engine, 100% never-say-die attitude and could score goals too. An inspirational figure who could have played for any of the top English sides at that time.

Love to watch bayern Munich at home when wee bazza ran the show what a player he was superb.

29 Sep 2020 11:12:39
I remember seeing him for Scotland playing against England at Wembley and he looked as good that night as any of the English midfield, which was incredibly strong at that time. Absolutely fantastic player.

Bang on the money ballochblue3 regarding barry ferguson and liverpool 👍Before rangers sold baz to blackburn for £7.8million,
liverpool were looking to sign ferguson, but were trying to offload players first. Baz should have waited and not decided on blackburn as quick as he did and he would by all reports probably have been a liverpool player, which would have been an even better move for him👌
Liverpool and newcastle utd again were showing interest in signing him before rangers came in to bring him back up the road! He could have played in any midfield, as he was that good, for me anyway!

29 Sep 2020 12:20:47
Ferguson was a top player. Should never have went to blackburn imo.

29 Sep 2020 12:21:54
Welcome back Coop. Baz was in his prime right when I was growing up. Remember being so proud one of our own was leading such a star studded team and there 100% on merit.

How long before Scotland produces a player of that class again?

29 Sep 2020 12:42:40
That is sort of midfielder we need now.

29 Sep 2020 13:17:36
Coops, maybe we should have one of your legendary polls. Barry Ferguson or Scott Brown. Wonder how that one would go?
😁👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧.

29 Sep 2020 14:29:21
It would be sabotaged by the Tainted Town residents, Seeker👍.

29 Sep 2020 14:38:11
I wouldn't even bother with a poll for that one snell! Its an absolute NO contest pal, as baz was planets ahead of that overrated baffoon, scott brown👍So easy for baz when he played against that wannabe!

29 Sep 2020 14:53:52
SGL good to see you back on this site. Haven’t always agreed with your posts. But the heart is in the right place. Sometimes the head ain’t. Just like us all. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇦🇺⚽️😎👍.

29 Sep 2020 15:20:15
Buzz bum would be on the Baz/ Brown poll stats and he'd find a way of manipulating the data for Brown to come out top, sure he's done his stats on them a while back.
As long as we know in our hearts Barry was smiles better we don't need a poll no one on here is going to say Brown was better a way are they.

29 Sep 2020 15:25:15
Best CM to come out of Scotland in the last 20 years or so without a shadow of doubt.

29 Sep 2020 15:31:44
Welcome back coops.

29 Sep 2020 15:45:30
I remember Gerry Mcnee going off on one when other journalists were spouting that Barry was the best Scottish midfielder since Mcstay and Collins and Mcnee put them firmly in their place by saying Barry was on a completely different level to those 2 and there would be no comparison. Now, if he was on a different level to those 2, how many levels above Brown must he be?

29 Sep 2020 15:56:58
Guys, I know its no the same but I took my wee man to the Hydro for one of these old timers 5 asides a year or so back and Barry was the best player on show by a country mile. Absolute class and looked like he could still have played to a decent level. For me in my 30+ years of watching gers only Gazza and Laudrup are ahead of Ferguson.

29 Sep 2020 17:38:44
Following on from you there Cambiger, the only 2 midfielders that played for rangers that i rated better than barry ferguson are paul gascoigne and ian durrant pre injury and take it from me, that's some compliment i've paid baz here 👌Like i've said many times, barry ferguson is easily IMO, the best scottish midfielder to come through, in the last 25 years bar none! I remember in 1997 at tynecastle, a young barry ferguson made his debut and you could see then he was as many had predicted, was a special talent 👌I was at that particular game and although we had clinched 9 in a row we lost 3-1 to the jambos that day.

29 Sep 2020 18:28:38
Bmg Gerry Mcnee was a great commentating, he was bang on re Mcstay and Collins, brown not even close.

SGL samedebate Baxter up there.

29 Sep 2020 19:42:14
SGL I went to school with barry he was year above and we played in same team at school and you could see then he had something about him and he wasn’t that big but was class on the ball then.

29 Sep 2020 22:51:39
I remember that one too coops. We were in Ibrox watching the game beamed back onto the screens and players flown back by helicopter after game at Tyncastle finshed. Then off to the Glaswegian, remember doing a conga from there under the bridge to Huttons, remember a wee sing song on the karakoe. Great days.
