As its international week I would like to gauge what chances our country has to qualify from our group, for the 2018 world cup in russia. We must beat lithuania at hampden on saturday, simple as that! This is scotland manager gordon strachan's last chance at achieving qualification for a major tournament. I rate wee strachan as a manager but if he fails then imo its time for change and fresh ideas with the appointment of a new scotland manager paramount, my question I'll throw out there is who would we want to replace strachan as scotland manager, who has the ability and the best candidate to follow strachan and become the next scotland manager? Should be interesting!

05 Oct 2016 23:45:45
SFA have already said they want to keep Strachan for the nxt Euro Qualifiers, seems like the balls in his court although no matter what happens I would like to see a change, maybe Wright from St. Johnstone. Or what about Neil from Norwich he may be available at the time but def want to see a change someone that's going to give youngsters decent game time and actually use the lads when selected!

06 Oct 2016 03:58:26
away you go.

get behind the boys and stop planning for our failure, ye sound like one a them.

absolutely disgraceful attitude mate.

no wonder we fail as a nation each year.

06 Oct 2016 08:17:12
My country northern ireland proved anything is possible so i wouldn't rule out Scotland maybe getting 2nd place. Not that it really bothers me either way but I'd like to see the 4 home nations qualify for the same tournament.

06 Oct 2016 08:22:41
Strach has been a good manager and we have to reach the play offs at least. If not then his time has to be over. I think this can be our time, with England in turmoil we have to take advantage. I am not saying we will beat them home and away but I believe we can take points off them. Games like Saturday is our big tests, its these games where we always fail to turn up. Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia are all going to be hard games but we must win at home and take something away. I predict 3-1 on Saturday.

As for Andy stating the managers he wants in, Wright is no where near good enough for Scotland manager and Neil is still young and would never consider the job. IF Strach does leave then I would be looking at a manager such as Steve Bruce or Paul Lambert. I know Bruce is English but we have to stop looking within Scotland. In an ideal world we would bring in a Sir Alex Ferguson or Graeme Souness but that's never going to happen.

06 Oct 2016 09:08:56
Aye mon the Scotland. I don't rate Strachan. Should've lost his job after failing to qualify for Euros. That's his one job and he failed so should've got the bullet. His insistence on fielding players who don't get a game for their club in English championship/ premiership and acquiring the services of Englishmem who's granny had a Scottish terrier dug, is infuriating and embarrassing, respectively.

However, so far so good with this campaign. Let's hope the lads keep it up. Maybe now that thumb is on the bench for Celtic, he'll get s game for Scotland. That seems to be the pattern. And as much as it pains me to say, he's by far Scotland's best striker. Yer that dumpling Steven Fletcher gets a game before him. á lá welcome to the world of Strachans Scotland.

06 Oct 2016 09:17:33
Geez it a rest blueblood they are only discussing the what ifs. Hardly a disgraceful attitude. And you think that's why we fail as a nation every year? Lol.

06 Oct 2016 10:33:50
Warb15
I like Strachan's honesty and he really is faced with limited options and I don't see how any manager can do much more. There isn't one great Scottish footballer today and everything about the national team is average. It's no great mystery why they haven't qualified for a world cup in 18 years.

06 Oct 2016 10:42:30
Benny 0812, '' Strachan has been a good manager'' you are at the wind up i assume. The only people who can say that are individuals like Steven Fletcher and others who he has continued to give caps to regardless of the rubbish they produce on the field, and of course keeping his best mate with a nice little earner as assistant.

06 Oct 2016 10:54:22
part a the reason we do is fans like him and the "medea" TYson fury

there is nothing about strapon to be negative about yet, last qual we had freak result.

get behind the team and stop spouting pressure before they have played.

06 Oct 2016 10:55:28
Strachan is as good as it gets for Scotland I'm afraid. I can't think of any decent manager that would take job alex neil too young to accept job like that.

{Ed001's Note - is Alex Neil decent? He was awful in the English Prem and was too arrogant to listen to advice.}

06 Oct 2016 11:11:59
Strachan is a pals act kind of guy!
he plays his favourite players reguardles of, form, potential, nationality, and fitness so why would we want bstarchan in charge.

I know it won happen but i'd love big walter to go back and get us qualified this time his time as Scotland manager we played brilliantly and it was the call of rangers that took him away from country duties so i'd hope he could come back into the job and play Scottish players and throw away the no good players .

I believe that we have a group of good players that could make the national team look a lot better than the one he has been putting out on the field.

06 Oct 2016 11:14:08
Strachan is even worse than George burley. hopeless no game plan at all, picks his players he likes not the ones on form. him and Darren Clarke would get on well lol.

06 Oct 2016 12:04:07
Some could say the same about our manager Ed, regarding advice.

{Ed001's Note - I guess so, I don't know enough about him, I do know it has been said to me more than once, by a large number of people now, about Neil.}

06 Oct 2016 12:29:32
Rangeken I don't see how has not done a good job. We don't have a good squad. In the last qualifiers we were unlucky. A last min goal against us v Poland, just beaten twice off Germany and drew and beat Ireland. We actually only had 1 bad result v Georgia.

06 Oct 2016 23:15:03
After watching the Slovakia v England game I reckon we could finish 2nd and get into the play offs. However we would need a bit of luck with the draw. As for a potential replacement no one really springs to mind.

06 Oct 2016 23:36:31
W15, I've an Alsatian dug that knows more about football than Strachan. He would be ideal at barking out instructions to the players.

06 Oct 2016 23:14:14
Ask O'Neil to leave the ROI job and take over Scotland. He would be right at home with them!

06 Oct 2016 23:37:59
Personally think he is doing ok with the squad he has .
Think though he is being loyal to one or two ( both fletchers) .
Would replace those two with McCormack and Halliday .
We won't be world beaters but don't think we are as bad as
some people are saying .
A good organised side without World class players can give any team a game, Iceland prime example .

07 Oct 2016 11:00:35
I like strachan as our national manager and more importantly I rate him but if he doesn't take us to russia we do need to freshen up and change him, someone ti come in with fresh ideas, my choice for the next scotland manager would without question be wee billy davies who imo would be perfect for the national job at this stage in his career, he's a fantastic coach with a tremendous football brain, although wait a minute I suppose huge jarse has an alsatian dug who's the perfect candidate and also better than davies as well as strachan!

05 Oct 2016 20:05:06
Anyone know if theirs a fund for Ryan Baird.

05 Oct 2016 22:04:38
There is because there are stories about Rod Stewart making a donation mate but I haven't see it online.

Might be on Facebook or Twitter?

05 Oct 2016 18:01:49
Would love to see a starting team with foderingham in nets, a back four of tav Wilson senderos Wallace, midfield of Halliday windass kranjcar and McKay ohalloran dodoo up top with dodoo through the middle just to see how it worked. I have a feeling this would be our most exciting attacking team. I would swap kranjcar with Holt or Forrester in a game where we will need no slackness in the middle of the park. And if it never worked at least we would know couldn't be much worse than what we have had so far.

05 Oct 2016 18:13:00
Would swap Rossiter/ Barton (if he can actually get his head in the game and put in a performance) for Haliday but other than that I 100% agree with you.

05 Oct 2016 20:20:04
That is what Warburton did with Halliday and even he noticed he was missed.

05 Oct 2016 21:04:03
I would never let Barton in the team again.

06 Oct 2016 00:11:18
I like Warbs and think that he should be supported and given time, but why is it that a huge amount of supporters prob more than 50% agree that 4-3-3 isn't the way to go, sure against some teams at Ibrox go for it and it is great to watch when a team has the system nailed down! But playing 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 isn't exactly boring. This is what I can't get my head around as we know Warbs is a intelligent man, playing 4-3-3 at the Methadome with players making their debut was bold but suicidal especially with the team he fielded. Really hope he does not dig his heels in and becomes stubborn which we have seen Managers do, persisting with a player or system because others have said it isn't working, again I regard Warbs as a great Coach definetly someone who is brilliant at nurturing young talent and loves to play the game passing from the back and attack minded but were not at that level yet. Think the nxt time we play the tic we should possibly even play with 3 CB's with our wing backs alternating between bombing up the flanks. Anyways I'm sure I'm not the only Bear who is frustrated and perplexed at Warbs as he must know about our venting our opinions on our formation, pundits too but f**ck them its our club!

06 Oct 2016 02:29:31
Think we need to keep the same defense and attack, we can rotate midfeild depending on opponent but back line of Tavs Sendaros Wilson Wallace up front Dodoo Garner Mckay But I would think about replacing Mckay at half time if needed but we have to settle the squad.

06 Oct 2016 08:26:32
I can't see how Holt cannot be in the team. He gets into the box more than any our other mids and will score more goals. My starting 11 right now is:
Wes
Tav
Wilson
Senderos
Wallace
Halliday
Holt
Windass
McKay
Waghorn
Dodoo

It was hard leaving out Rossiter, Garner, Forrester and Barton who I think will become good and turn things around.

06 Oct 2016 11:14:57
dodoo? over mckay and ohalloran? why?

06 Oct 2016 13:40:00
benny I like your team selection but formation for me is why we are not getting the results. bring rossiter in and and play 4 in middle something like .

! wes
! tav senders Wilson Wallace

! rossiter
! forrester halliday
! holt

! McKay
! garner!

sub to bring on would be miller for garner, windass for holt, and moh for forrester.

06 Oct 2016 23:20:07
So you would pay him the rest of his (relatively expensive) contract for nothing in return Gary? Sounds bit daft to me when we aren't exactly rolling in cash.

Need to get off the idiots back, we all know he is an idiot, he was before he signed and he will be afterwards.

I'm one of the very few who can honestly say that I saw this as a really bad idea from the start. Shame MW couldn't, but we are lumbered with him and need to make best of it- paying him for nothing isn't that.

05 Oct 2016 16:13:26
Barton has been charged for betting on 44football games by sfa
Could this be what the club need to be shot of him. I hope so bad egg in my opinion for years club should have known better with the old firm spotlight.

05 Oct 2016 16:49:54
BBC have kind of written the defence for Barton in their story.

In May, Partick Thistle midfielder Steven Lawless was given a six-match ban, with four of those suspended until the end of this season, after being accused of betting on 513 matches.

Two former Rangers players, Steve Simonsen and Ian Black, have also served bans relating to gambling rules breaches in recent years.

I think it would be a bit of a stretch to try hook the guy for that unfortunately.

05 Oct 2016 17:48:59
The club might try and bundle it up with the current suspension; which will involve another messy and costly court case. Just what we don't need. I do agree that on its own it would be very harsh and certainly inconsistent if he got bagged for this but would lead to more time out of the team whilst still be paid.

05 Oct 2016 18:13:48
Surely every player now knows the rules so maybe they can be shot of.

05 Oct 2016 18:24:11
When you think Sandaza got binned for getting bammed up in a phone call yet Black got away with it off Rangers for actually betting on a Rangers game is mind-boggling.

05 Oct 2016 19:25:21
I'm hoping rules are now in place at the club where anyone found betting are ofski. Due to past failures it may be common practice to implement this in a contract.

06 Oct 2016 04:03:49
hes going no where, we kept Black who actually bet on us to drew.

he will be here, take his money and put in a few solid performances, he's 34 a think i was naive i thinking he was going to boss SPL he is a has been.

we need to focus on getting second or third, its a long shot but we have done it before ( with better resources)

we are due some luck our club has an awful reputation with the bank so a don't think its gony be easy until we build from the youth and stop buying 34 year old diddly widdlies.

06 Oct 2016 10:07:08
There is no chance of Barton leaving unless you are prepared to see £1.6 million going with him as settlement of his contract.
He has the full support of the players union, not least because the matter has been badly handled by the club, as Souness suggested.
Training ground spats are weekly occurrences in football and poor man management skills don't help.

06 Oct 2016 23:24:01
I have run several businesses - unless Barton agrees to terminate then we must either honour his contract or pay it in full to terminate it.

But to be honest anyone who's played football manager should know that.

I can say that on Face of the facts available publicly, he could take us to cleaners for unfair dismissal and leaking of confidential employee information. Unless he threatened Warburton, but he wouldn't of been just suspended had he done that.

05 Oct 2016 16:12:12
What I 'cee' written about Miller is a load of rubbish. he's useless? Aye very good.

05 Oct 2016 16:49:52
miller is a great player and always puts 100 percent into the games he plays .

the only reason he won't be a rangers legend for me is that he kissed their badge when he played for them other than that he has been a great servant to rangers over the years.

05 Oct 2016 18:02:47
Now now james stirling. less of that nonsense! lol HH.

05 Oct 2016 18:16:35
Just his opinion at times and stages of his career he has been but at this stage with the role he has in the squad I'd personally disagree.

05 Oct 2016 18:27:19
To be fair he thumped his chest not kiss the scabby badge. ot was relief because he hadnt scored for them yet and anyway that mob will grasp on to anything as there still trying to get over Super Mo bamming them up in "89". my god they even tried to get to us with Scott somebody that use to play with hivs😂😂.

05 Oct 2016 21:08:08
Super Mo? Would that be the same guy who played more times for us than he did for the old Rangers team? And the same guy who scored more goals for us than he ever scored for them? lol HH.

06 Oct 2016 04:08:19
cany believe some hawfwits are slagging Miller, he stuck by us through thick and thin played in the pub leagues with us, got a fair few goals, he was the cement along with Wally who kept the team together.

Wisen up lads we are in trouble but we will get through like we always have and will.

06 Oct 2016 06:52:19
Miller was an OK player when he had him in his prime. But we got a few quid for him and punted him. HH.

06 Oct 2016 07:10:00
Naw Super Mo who had a better goals to game ratio for us and Super Mo who bammed" big daft billy" up, that Super Mo. Its ok Bob keeping telling yourselves"at least we go scott allan"😂.

06 Oct 2016 09:18:40
Miller and Mo Jo are pure money grabbing chancers. Not in my Rangers team thanks. Lest we forget.

06 Oct 2016 14:02:46
miller is a great servant to rangers had a shitty spell at celtic and for me is the only reason he won't be classed as a legend.
doesn't matter if he kissed the badge anyway if u score against us playing for them then that takes u outa the legends category for me

although he is a gereat professional and he is still a workhorse who will score very important goals for us.

06 Oct 2016 23:26:00
Miller is the best Scottish striker of his generation and a fantastic pro. Will be rangers manager one day.

Yes he's past his prime, but don't understand any fan criticism.

05 Oct 2016 12:48:32
Does anyone know when young Jordan Rossiter will be back fit.
Would love to see more of him, and won't do his development any good not playing week in week out.

05 Oct 2016 20:39:40
Last wednesday warbs said 2 weeks so 1 more then probably eased back in, plenty of competition for the 3 cm spots.

05 Oct 2016 11:31:23
Anyone else finally agree with me that Waghorn is so over rated? Went missing in big games last season, is injury prone and has no right foot at all. The only reason he looked good was because he was skipping past dross fullbacks.

Said at the start of the season that him and Haliday had to be the most over rated players in the squad but at least Haliday is putting in a performances.

05 Oct 2016 12:12:03
most overrated players by far are Miller and forrester. Kenny miller has zero ability nearly every single time he receives the ball he passes it straight back.

05 Oct 2016 12:44:27
Lol, kenny miller has no ability? Your of your nut mate.
Forrestr haeen our stand out performer this season also.

05 Oct 2016 13:11:40
Waghorn has scored a few this season but I tend to agree that he goes missing in games.

Don't know what you are going on about Cee, Miller tracks back, scores important goals and has great vision.

The guys done great for us and still puts a decent shift in.

05 Oct 2016 13:18:05
Cee, can I get some of what you are on? In fact don't bother. You are talking complete garbage. Miller is easily better and will achieve more in the game than waggy ever will.

05 Oct 2016 13:36:13
Agree that waggy and forrester are but Miller, come on what are some people smoking on here. he along with krankjar is the most intelligent player we have and we should count ourselves lucky to have such a dedicated pro at our club.

05 Oct 2016 13:57:35
Forrester has shown ability for me and unlike Waghorn seems to come to life in bigger games. Has Waghorn even signed a new contract? If he hasn't it's because he thinks he's bigger than us. "Waghorn's on fire, against lesser opposition. "

Dodoo has looked a million times better and since they are most similar position for position he should be starting instead.

05 Oct 2016 14:03:29
kenny Miller has no footballing ability he's is a man down. runs about passing the ball directly back to the man who gave him it trying to be a midfielder he's useless, doesn't even have the energy he used to. should be nowhere near the squad.

05 Oct 2016 14:03:37
Let's be honest, our current side lacks the quality we once had and the quality required to catch Celtic.

However we have what we have, we must make the most of it and support the team- getting on their backs archives nothing. Look at our first championship season and remember how difficult it was for team playing at ibrox.

End of the season is the time to judge.

05 Oct 2016 14:35:34
Harry is a class act. Excellent footballer and some drive. Miller played for them so I don't even register his performances.

05 Oct 2016 16:33:42
Don't think waghorn has ever got over injury he got at kilmarnock cup game last season hasn't been same player since.

05 Oct 2016 17:09:39
or maybe he isn't good enough for the spl.

05 Oct 2016 18:03:39
Montypiefan, what a reasonable way to judge a person.

Everyone does jobs they wouldn't normally now and then to make ends meet.

05 Oct 2016 18:06:50
Yeah because the quality of opposition is better jaws. He never showed up against SPFL opposition and now he isn't again. No more songs for Waghorn till he actually grows into the shirt. I've said it already but Dodoo is the perfect example. He is doing what waggy was last season because he is a far better player.

05 Oct 2016 18:24:12
Plus f*** Waghorn refusing a contract extension when he can't even stay off the medical bed.

05 Oct 2016 18:40:31
I'm surprised dodoo isn't getting decent run in team know he's had injury but when we signed him I thought he would have been a regular .

05 Oct 2016 20:49:22
Dodoo has shown signs of quality but we need to remember he has only had 7 or 8 professional games. Garners the one i think we need to give a good run.

05 Oct 2016 22:18:13
Plenty of ability dodoos got ross w but let's be fair he's not made much of an impression apart from s couple of cameos saying that I do think he could be really good, I'd play waggon up top a couple of games wae dodoo on right if not working give garner a run of games, and regarding kenny miller guys been a magnificent servant to us and still has an effect in every game magnificent professional.

06 Oct 2016 14:09:42
cee
you must be on drugs miller is a brilliant player mate one of our best I don't cee where u are coming from!

forrester has no talent?
seriously dude u need a check up fae the neck up or stop smoking whatever it is your smoking because u obviously have been watching the games he has played in and if u have your vision is impared the boy has to be our most technically gifted player along with McKay and to say otherwise is wow just wow mate!

05 Oct 2016 11:12:27
MOH is too good a player not to get a run. Let him prove himself.

05 Oct 2016 13:13:36
Will it make you feel better if I say ok he'll play next time, no worries?

He is a good player but he is struggling to add that last part to his game - goals.

05 Oct 2016 13:20:55
Every-time he gets in he does very little and does not commit or run at defenders, just lays it off.

05 Oct 2016 14:03:55
he gets 10 minutes if he's lucky at the end of a few games hardly a lot of time to prove himself is it.

05 Oct 2016 14:04:38
He needs to score a few or create a few off the bench. So far he hasn't done a lot.

05 Oct 2016 15:29:28
Cee if you think kenny miller has NO ability then without doubt just like dunfermlineloyal states, you are totally off your nut mate!

05 Oct 2016 16:34:03
I'm not going to totally slate Waggon here but I do think that Dodoo should get the position on the right and Garner through the middle with Windass (rightside of middle three) behind him, also think that Warbs should sub Mckay at half time with O'halloran if the wee man isn't producing. If Wags is going to be on the pitch he has to play through the middle! We must start to get the squad settled, the nxt 2 games away will giv the squad the chance to respond to all the crap that's been said about them, Warbs must know that and if he's going to stick with the formation he has to at least look at who he's putting on the pitch. My thoughts on middle three are either: Holt. Halliday. Nico. OR
Windass. Rossiter. Halliday.
Front Three: Dodoo. Garner. Mckay. OR
Forrester. Garner. O'halloran.

05 Oct 2016 18:33:31
As for the "miller use to play for them brigade", do yous not think he's more than made up for it with 8 OF goals, a cup final winner with 9men and bags of other important goals to win 3 in a row under Sir Walter. No ability my jacksy.

06 Oct 2016 14:15:42
he used to be one of them for a while and he won't get legendary staus for that which is a shame because he is one of our best and he stuck by us through the hardest of times .

I love Kenny miller I do but won't change my mind when it comes to hall of fame u can't punch / kiss that badge and get into that exclusive club.

04 Oct 2016 22:50:16
As we all know the days are gone for us going out and paying top dollar in transfer fees for players we're wishing to sign, which is why we now have to rely on our rangers youth academy producing the young talent all the way through to our big team which of course is why we employed mark warburton as our rangers manager in the first place, this process however will take time and we probably won't witness the benefit of it for at least another 4 or 5 years which brings me on to my next very important point.

I know for a fact a good few years ago we were poised to appoint our ex full back of years gone by alex miller as head of our youth academy but at the last minute things changed and we didn't appoint miller, big mistake in my opinion as this man is rated so very highly and is regarded by many prominent football gurus as one of the very best coaches with young talented footballers in europe, what alex miller doesn't know about coaching and nurturing young talent isn't worth knowing about, he's a very clever, astute coach with a wonderful football brain.

I still at his now later years in life would love to see him given the top job at our youth academy as the head of rangers youth academy. he would be a brilliant choice and would give him FULL control to appoint any other coaches he wanted to work under him, we all know he used to be a manager with st. mirren, hibs, aberdeen etc but it is working with young talent as a coach which he's highly regarded as his field.

he was so very highly thought of when working at liverpool especially when gerrard houllier was the manager there, both houllier and kenny dalglish hailed him as genius of a football coaching brain, gary mcallister also said as much, my message to my club rangers is go and bring alex miller to rangers as our new head of our youth academy and we'll bear the fruits for many many years to come, its not too late, at a time when we have to rely very heavily on what young players we can produce we must have the best at the top and imo alex miller is by far one of the very best in europe! Go get him!

05 Oct 2016 08:36:20
For top dollar see EBTs you couldny make it up jeez.

05 Oct 2016 10:09:29
See Envy.

05 Oct 2016 11:40:50
he's 67 years old.

05 Oct 2016 12:12:54
Cee what does that matter he's 67 years old? Age is a number and its the way imo alex miller would do things in the coaching sense and employing his choice of coaches who'd work under him that would count, you know the saying if your good enough age is only but a number in this instance its the coaching brain that counts.

05 Oct 2016 12:56:29
I think the most important thing here is we have someone in the position you are trying to fill. I don't see what Craig Mulholland has done wrong and the fact we have a large amount of young players in the Scotland U-21s is anot indication that things in our youth department are actually starting to improve.

I would not like to see Alex Miller anywhere near it to be honest, we have a young progressive 1st team manager and someone of a similar mindset in charge of the youth department. Our future demands we produce more of our own quality players and I hope the guys we have in place can help deliver that.

05 Oct 2016 13:21:37
If he is that good W15, what club is he coaching at just now.

05 Oct 2016 13:34:12
I agree with Warbs15, I think he would be a great addition to the club. A wealth of experience and proven ability.
