I know some people were not overly enthusiastic about Gilks, but I think he's will hopefully become number 1,

I don't trust Wes, neither does our 2 poor centre back infront, I'm also not keen on Keirnan and Wilson, and would prefer another partnership, there is two many mistakes between Wes, Wilson and Kiernan.

I think Gilks has be brought in to eventually be number one, and would be very surprised if Kiernan and Wilson will be the two centre backs, I do thinks W&W has identified this, the full backs will still remain but the two centre backs and Goalie will eventually change! I'm sure of it.

There's no chance it will b wes Wilson and kiernan first pick not a chance in the world but with ball there they were ok that's in the championship step up so there will be changes defo.

Will be very interesting to see how this all works out. If I remember correctly Gilks was a good shot stopper but Wes is not so bad himself. Wes's distribution is good, although he did catch himself out a couple of times last season, but would not expect Gilks to be any better. So it comes down to who can deal with the ball in the air; Wes repeatedly looked suspect in this department and the aerial threat will surely be greater this coming season. This may be where Gilks can toughen us up and offer us something better. On the other hand, I think Hill will help with the airborne attack providing the keeper with much needed cover. And Danny Wilson is not too bad in the air and far more of a footballer than Kiernan so that may be a winning pairing, Wilson/ Hill! Then again bring in Mariappa and Wilson might be struggling for a game. Remember Jackson/ Johnstone/ Forsythe perm any 2 from 3? Happy days - 55 we are coming for you!

Wilson and hill have no pace doubt it n hope not.

I don't think the manager will have his best 11 sorted out yet never mind us lot. It will take a few games/ months of playing and tinkering to see what the best options are, and I think the players we have at our disposal give us the ability to tinker the style of set-up depending on how we want to play, ie- all out attack, or a more balanced, midfield dominance type line-up.

That said, here is my prediction for the opening day line-up.

Foderingham

Tav, Kiernan, Hill, Wallace

Barton, Crooks, Halliday

Waghorn, Miller, Mckay

This wouldn't necessarily be my choice, just my view on what I think Warbs might try, provided Crooks is fit by then. I think he will try to find a balance of keeping faith in the current players, and bedding in new signings slowly, but will add players he feels will give us a more solid formation that is not so open to the counter attack.

I can safely say there is no chance Wilson and Hill will play together. They are both left footed, left sided CBs with no pace. Its one or the other, unless they are the only 2 available.

Fod

Tav, crooks, hill, wallace

Barton, kranjcar, rossiter

Windass, waghorn, mackay

Forrester
Miller
MOH
Kiernan
Wilson
Holt
Halliday
Gilks
Hardie
Burt
Murdoch

Big squad now and probably going to get bigger before the transfer window shuts.

Wes did look suspect at high balls last season, but how much of that was down to the CBs infront of him?

Our defence were shocking at dealing with high balls! I reckon that's why we took short corners too, because we were hopeless in the air.

Maybe with some solid CBs helping to deal with high balls Wes could kick on and progress to the next level. His shot stopping is decent and his distribution is pretty good.

I also reckon Wilson's game will develop with a solid partner. He's a good footballer and plays out from the back well, which suits our play.

He just needs a rock solid partner to cover for and improve upon his defensive frailties.

My Guestimation of starting 11 for opening game away to Motherwell, with Barton and Rossiter joining pre season later I think both might be on bench but expect both to be regular starters as season progresses.
Bell
Tav Crooks Wilson Wallace

Holt. Windass. Halliday

Waghorn. Miller. McKay

Expect Krancjar to replace Windass last 30, and MOH to replace Miller with Wags staying in central role (he will rotate with Miller when both are on)
If Forrester is fit I expect he could be involved at some point.

27 Jun 2016 10:01:19
Bell in goals and no Barton lol.

27 Jun 2016 10:09:01
I think you should maybe change bell.

27 Jun 2016 10:15:54
I meant Gilks 😂
As Warbs is treating this game as part of his pre season warm up I do think he might leave Barton on the bench as he's joining the squad later than the rest. The selection is based on what I think he might pick as for my own 1st choice team assuming everyone is match fit and sharp:
Gilks
Tav crooks hall wallace
Rossiter
Barton. Holt or Halliday

Miller Waghorn McKay
Krancjar
Windass
MOH
Forrester my impact subs.

Bell has it hard this season, Playing for us AND Dundee United. Impressive stuff from the man. here's hoping we don't kick off at the same time as United any time this year.

27 Jun 2016 11:28:59
Gilks

Tavernier Crooks Wilson Wallace

Forrester Barton Rossiter Krancjar

Waghorn Miller

Something like this for me. With MOH chopping and changing for Miller and Rossiter changing for Halliday. Although I would like to see Mariappa come in and also a consistent goal scorer.

27 Jun 2016 11:51:08
Never going to play 4-4-2, Kenny89.

27 Jun 2016 13:46:45
my guess at starting line up lol!

tav ball mariappa Wallace

rossiter barton holt

kranjcar waggy McKay (maybe replace waggy with sum1 better if we can.

27 Jun 2016 16:59:38
Only defence in the league that plays 2v2 at the back and all the criticism falls on them. The GK and the two centre backs can't score goals so they can't ever escape criticism the way haliday, wallace and tav do, don't see you saying that they shouldn't be in the team. How many mistakes did the defence make that weren't as a result of Haliday being nowhere and the fullbacks being in the opposition box? As for wes far better shot stopper than gilks probably a better footballer too.

27 Jun 2016 19:26:16
Kranjcar is not a wide player, he will play in the midfield 3 and Windass is a wide player that won't play there!
