Ball a defensive midfielder, Oduwa an attacking midfielder.

Ball exactly what Rangers lack just now & Oduwa will keep Scott Allan's position warm

I personally think our current crop of youngsters outwith McKay and Macleod are fairly over rated. You compare Thompson to Rossiter and its night and day you can evidently tell what player is the highly rated youngster and what player is going out on loan.

It's the way people talk on social media about their disappointed they aren't getting a chance without actually realising they just aren't good enough. There's a reason why Rossiter will feature prominently in the first team and that Hardie/ Walsh/ Thompson won't. MW is very outspoken about his footballing philosophy and its clear for all to hear "If the young boys are good enough they will play. "

I watch development games from time to time on Rangers TV and we are as a squad very poor considering we should be one of the top two teams in Scotland for developing and attracting talent. Since MW has came in we have been getting better and his approach to training, stage of physical development over age, is for me definitely the right direction but it will be years before we gain the fruits from the hard work that's been laid in the background from our expert management team.

There is nothing stopping these players from further developing that's the beauty of youth players however I just don't see them ever making the Rangers first team. Hardie is no better than Hemming's was at that stage and although Hemming's has and still is developing into a better player he isn't the prolific striker Rangers would have hoped and was appropriately shipped out to develop elsewhere when he didn't make the bar. Hardie himself can finish but lacks physicality and real pace to trouble a defence but with Dodoo arriving for me this could be the last season for Hardie it's really make or break time.

Walsh for me of the three is the most likely to make it. When you watch Walsh play you can see the guy possess talent. He can dribble and is a great crosser of the ball. However if I am realistic do I see him breaking into the first team the way McKay has especially with our depth in that position? No personally I don't.

Thompson's direct comparison for me comes from a player who is of a similar age and a similar position and that is Rossiter. I've seen Rossiter for thirty minutes in a Rangers shirt and its clear to me and anyone else who seen him that he just has something about him you can see clearly that he is special however when we see Thompson play do we get a similar impression? I don't think so.

I'm by no means saying they are bad players or that they won't make it in professional football or anything close to that my opinion is formed on whether I think they could make a similar impact on the first team as McKay or Macleod did.

It's going to be years before we start seeing the success from the MW era in terms of direct youth development . let's just hope he's here for the long term. Anyone any thoughts on who they think is the next up and coming talent at Rangers?

1.) 26 Jul 2016 22:28:21
I agree with some of what your saying Ross, about there being a real difference in quality compared to the lads brought up from England, but I disagree with you that none of these players have a chance of making it.
I think and hope that the Manager brought in the likes of Barton and Kranjcar, who are nearing the end of their careers, as a short term fix and to push guys like Halliday and Holt on with their influence. Once Barton and Niko retire or move on I'd like to think by that time our youngsters would have had some SPFL loan experience and would be ready to fight for a place.
Maybe you're right though and we won't see the benefit of the new regimes methods till the next younger batch of players at Murray Park emerge. To be fair though they did bring Thompson in, and Hardie has scored a phenomenal amount of goals at every level he's played at, so maybe we're being a bit harsh.

2.) 26 Jul 2016 23:39:55
In terms of potential Liam Burt is the player I think could develop into 1st team player.
Hes only 17, is one of Scotland U19's top plsyers, has already made 1st team debut and is far too good for the guys he pkays against in U19's ai think he will be loaned out this time nxt year while only 18 if not sooner and could be a top top player.

3.) 27 Jul 2016 09:06:37
Burt I can agree with and that reiterates the clear difference in quality imo.

4.) 27 Jul 2016 12:43:21
Love when my post gets dislikes in reality what I'm saying is what the manager is thinking. He has made it abundantly clear that if players are good enough age isn't a problem (young or old) and for me with the lack of appearances in the first team and consistent loan time points to them just not being good enough YET. I said that of course the can develop and prove me wrong I just wish people would share why they disagree and think they can develop into talented players cause I just don't see it. I reiterate look at McKay, Rossiter, Dom Ball and Dodoo as the bench mark they aren't half as talented as these players. Hoping we get the boy Knox at some point as he is exactly the kind of talent our academy should be aspiring to produce every year. With our facilities, finances relative to the rest of the Scottish game and the attraction our club brings, should allow us to develop top talents like McKay consistently. Futures bright tho and I'm of course open to being proven wrong by these players I just personally don't see what all the hype and disappointment surrounding them is.

5.) 27 Jul 2016 13:51:26
its good to see players come through the ranks, I love it as much as any other ranger.
It saves us money and most of the time they are rangers through and through.
however I wouldn't want to sacrifice any league time to these players until they are proven, in that I mean cup games
I really believe that that's where our youngsters deserve their shot we shouldn't be playing the same team in three comps so i'd like to see our first picks playing in the league and our second choice players playing in the cup games.

6.) 27 Jul 2016 15:52:19
I have to say Hemmings was a victim of Allys inability to see a player, he could have developed into a very dangerous striker under the right coach. ? He may still, I would welcome him back absolutely. though I would think warbs has his own ideas on the boys ability, and he would obviously know more than me, still I see the boy going on to bigger clubs than Dundee?

23 Jul 2016 15:31:27
Shame about the broadcast last night although people complain its not like BT could have anticipated the issues they would have had at Brechin and its no like any games will be on there in the near future.

BT are actually supporting our game where as Sky especially after the collapse of Setanta have done nothing but downgrade the Scottish game while pumping literal billions everywhere else. I actually fairly enjoy the BT broadcasts and if I take the blue tinted glasses off personally fairly enjoy Chris Sutton's analysis in particular he only had nice things to say about Rangers and in particular MW recruitment this summer.

You see a lot of posts on here about other clubs and away support and kicking when we are down but no one is more guilty of kicking us and the Scottish game in general than Sky and thankfully BT have started to dismantle the monopoly they had over our game deciding what and were they were going to spend the minimal money. Its not like we are going to be getting anywhere near the English game ever but competition and the attractiveness of our game currently can only mean more money for everyone which is what I hope.

Rangers being back where we belong will also help that.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly but MW said that the last game would be our strongest line up either that or it will be the Burnley game really looking forward to seeing Rossiter in particular. .

RossW

1.) 23 Jul 2016 16:00:15
Agree with the comment re BT. They have been a supporter during the past 2/ 3 years while we were in the lower regions.

However the true blame lies with those supposedly looking after the Scottish Football's interest and they are still there so don't expect miracles until the whole Scottish system is brought up to the 21st century.

2.) 23 Jul 2016 16:08:04
the league up here is a joke tbh, has been for yrs, never been a fan off this split bollocks tbh, and this new cup format seems bizarre, two league of 20, play each other twice ( opens up for more of a challenge imo) , do away with the league cup play league games instead and have a winter break, how these clowns that make the decisions get a wage escapes me.

3.) 23 Jul 2016 16:13:32
RossW

To be honest the product is rotten and say what u want about sky they are at least putting some money in. Do you think the BBC would pay the same? Also after last weeks results in Europe we are lucky sky want to televise any of the games.

4.) 23 Jul 2016 16:27:31
Preparation is the key if a news report was happening ft there and the broadcaster had weeks of notice then your signal would be bang on but bt charge crazy prices so I believe it is unacceptable they could have ran checks had back up transmitters not just turn up plug in and realise that it doesn't work compared to sky their prices are too high as they know that football supporters will pay to watch their team but it is over the top. Plus even worse than that picture last night is having to listen to Chris Sutton and Michael Stewart they are the worst pairing that you could get after neven and Cosgrove we need rangers TV on sky with games and our own commentary.

5.) 23 Jul 2016 16:28:26
Yeah but with proper investment it wouldn't be I feel we have been completely underfunded for years especially when we were in the lower leagues you need money so all clubs can compete maybe even retain some of there better players and attract better talent so the product is better, just my opinion.

6.) 23 Jul 2016 16:57:06
RossW

Know what your saying however they are only giving us what they think it's worth.

7.) 23 Jul 2016 17:11:35
When there was competition in the market with Setanta we actually had a decent deal but since they sank Sky have done there best to give us the bare minimum in my opinion. With better funding I think everything improves on all aspects from crowd numbers to the quality of the Scotland squad I feel we are really underfunded as a nation and feel Sky didn't and doesn't help our nation enough in comparison to the prices it pays for others we don't even scratch it and I'm not asking for those kind of deals but better deals means a better product in Scottish football.

8.) 23 Jul 2016 18:29:57
Nice wee speech about BT but forget to mention Joe public pays for a product if they can't deliver them they should refund, you wouldn't go and buy Mouldy bread out of a shop and be expected to just forget about it get it sorted or Feck off!

9.) 23 Jul 2016 18:39:11
Celtic and Rangers didn't want the setanta deal, but were out voted by the rest of the spl at the time, we had a decent deal with sky at the time, I agreed with one of the posters that said they blame the suits running our game, as Barry Hearn said, they are a joke and if they worked for him they would have been sacked years ago, with rangers being back this is now the time that they should be trying to line up better deals, but they couldn't get a good deal even if it was handed to them.

10.) 23 Jul 2016 21:33:11
Brechin? I thought it was at the home if stenhousemuir in Falkirk.

11.) 23 Jul 2016 22:09:25
Spot on was saying about Chris Sutton the same last night. Then remembered his comment before the final guys a bag must have woke up lol.

12.) 23 Jul 2016 23:00:31
I don't mind Sutton being part of BT commentary but please can the producers tell home to drop the overated pronouncing of "The" when referring to our club.

just trying to be smart and getting a dig in.

What is a Virtual Private Network and how can I use it to watch games live on Rangers TV?

A virtual private network essentially takes your current network, let's say for example that its BT Hub with IP 89.90.192.90 Location Glasgow Scotland. and virtually moves your network to another country with a new IP address. For example mines is currently 109.201.152.234 location Netherlands.

How is this useful?

In the UK the club aren't allowed to be broadcast matches live to people within the UK, it is now more than ever worth watching live on Rangers TV since they upgraded to full HD for this season. By using a VPN we are able to move our location and encrypt our traffic so our internet service provider (ISP) and government have no idea what websites we visit or from where. As long as we use our VPN there is no way that anyone can prove that we aren't watching it from outside the UK on let's say a holiday and because a VPN will encrypt everything you do there is literally no proof of what you are doing at an ISP and FBI level.

Complexity of a VPN

You download a program from the internet (can be paid or free) which encrypts your traffic (anything you do on the internet) as well as hiding your location by connecting to there server which makes your location appear to be elsewhere. This is done through advanced encription standards (AES-256) with some sort of Blowfish Handsake (key to decrypt data at other side) basically a VPN will allow you to do anything online without anyone being able to see what you are doing and this is why it is useful.

With a VPN you can purchase the match and watch it live from whatever location you are independent of rules. Is it legal? Yes VPN's are 100% legal but whether this method is or not I can't imagine there is any way that they could prove any wrong doing and the only people who would chase you for this would be BT or Sky since they own the rights but they won't have the information on you ever to be able to do such a thing as people like myself use VPN's daily to hide all activity from the government and agencies in general. Information provided by me a 20 year old software developer may not be 100% accurate. I will answer any questions the best I can if anyone is seriously interested in this as I only created the post since many were asking about watching live on Rangers TV since the funds go 100% to the club. Ed you can move this to other posts if you like although I feel it will get more views here in Banter.

Brilliant!

2.) 19 Jul 2016 13:09:27
Nice post Ross. Thanks for taking the time to do it. Much appreciated.

3.) 19 Jul 2016 13:13:27
Or you could just look on google to find out how to download kodi.

4.) 19 Jul 2016 13:49:25
Yeah but this way you can actually contribute to the club for the game without having to use external streaming sites which contribute nothing.

5.) 19 Jul 2016 13:51:00
You can download the puffin browser free and quickly. Job is a good 'un.

6.) 19 Jul 2016 14:34:12
Personally in my experience with modern technology proxies won't work with it although I could be wrong. I'd assume puffin browser is using a proxy. Proxies provide no encryption or network relocation so I'm not 100% sure it work as the site will be able to test your connection with a DNS leak and find your true location.

7.) 19 Jul 2016 14:36:18
Hola too - works perfectly - also helps to watch or listen online when overseas and a broadcast is UK restricted like some BBC commentaries.

8.) 19 Jul 2016 15:14:28
Hola can be bad for spyware but is a very basic form of vpn.

9.) 19 Jul 2016 15:29:34
Great post Ross! Much appreciated 👏🏼👏🏼.

10.) 19 Jul 2016 16:31:00
What vpn do you use rossw. I have looked at loads, but most complain the apps don't work.

11.) 19 Jul 2016 16:50:47
NB: VPN also works if you want USA Netflix which has a better selection of movies 👍🏼.

12.) 19 Jul 2016 17:22:42
Netflix are cracking down on that I personally use Private internet Access which for me is the best VPN service for price and they offer 24/ 7 support so they could help you a lot more than I could. It is however paid (like £30 or less a year I'm not sure was cheaper before the pound crashed) but is used for all sorts of purposes.

13.) 20 Jul 2016 08:40:31
Cheers RossW.

19 Jul 2016 09:47:19
Right I'm going to start a topical debate. Wilson or Keirnan and why? Everyone knows my answer. I think both can come good this season although I feel Kiernan and tav don't work well defensively especially in comparison to Wilson and Wallace and feel on Saturday we were weak on the right in particular. Who knows maybe a proper CDM is all we need.

RossW

1.) 19 Jul 2016 10:28:27
Danny Wilson played beside davie weir and they were a good solid defensive partnership. I don't think kiernan has been given that chance. Kiernan or wilson beside Clint hill could work, old head experience etc. But one things certain kiernan and Wilson does not work and we will get caught out defensively.

2.) 19 Jul 2016 10:34:17
My opinion is we should play Hill and Ball, but as it stands I'd have Wilson nxt to Hill. In a nutshell I just think Wilson is a better CH, he's still only 24? and still developing yeah think he's the youngest but same could be said for Kiernan regarding his development! I think both will come good, hate to keep saying it but for CH's they are well young.

3.) 19 Jul 2016 10:39:29
Kiernan has pace which at times last season saved us. The issue is Wilson has Wallace next to him making him look good. Kiernan has Tav. Which my opinion on Tav is that he is a winger not a defender. We will see tonight where crooks plays tonight and see how Tav does.

4.) 19 Jul 2016 10:52:15
Kiernan has pace? (Chuckle chuckle) .

I prefer Wilson but don't like the sound of Wilson/ Hill partnership, both left footed with no pace between them. i'd try to sign a pacey CB to play alongside Wilson as RCB, and have Kiernan and Hill as back up.

5.) 19 Jul 2016 10:55:57
I'd have both minus Tav. With Tav, I'd take Wilson. Although I'm struggling to think what CH could successfully work with Tav. Maybe another RB to shadow Tav? hahahaha 5 at the back. RB, RB CB, CB, LB.

6.) 19 Jul 2016 11:10:37
It's strange because both seem to be polarising figures which to me tells us they both have good and bad qualities that some will appreciate more than others.

7.) 19 Jul 2016 12:18:06
The only time Kiernan impressed me was the Celtic game. Every other time I've seen him play he's been underwhelming. Wilson's not exactly been great since he came back but he could be a great defender for us.
I'm still holding out for Marriapa, I think him and Wilson could be a great combo.

8.) 19 Jul 2016 12:39:39
Personally I think kiernan is getting a hard time at the moment maybe rightly. I think they both need an old head next to them for a couple of seasons to mature into better players. Center half's don't really mature till thier late 20s so I think they could both come good. At the ment though I'd have Wilson only because when he had DW next to him he looked like a real player.

9.) 19 Jul 2016 12:52:11
recbob, I tend to agree that this was one of Kiernans better performances for us, but ask yourself why was that?

Was Ball playing as a screen in front of the back 4? Yes.

Were we a little more defensive minded compared with league games, ie- Tav and Wallace not bombing forward as much? Yes.

Don't get me wrong, I don't regard Kiernan as a great defender, but it just goes to show that if we protect the defence a bit better then both Kiernan and Wilson are capable of doing a bit better during the game. To be honest I thought they were much better during the Dundee game, as they made a couple slip ups that were not punished against Celtic.

17 Jul 2016 19:19:45
My assessment on the Motherwell game.

I feel that Wes is a good keeper and I feel our defensive frailties may leave him open at times so I can't be over critical of the man hopefully with an experienced CB with Wilson he will be able to command his box. Pulled off some good stops to keep us in the game. 7/ 10

Tav is always great going forward no doubt about it but he was suspect when Motherwell were creating chances early. Scored a cracker to put us ahead. 8/ 10

Rob Kiernan I feel is the weakest link in our defence maybe him and Wilson or him and Tav just can't play together and he might be more comfortable with Lee Hodson/ Hill beside him. 5/ 10

Wilson I have always been a fan of I think he has real quality on the ball for a centre half has bags of experience and is an Academy graduate this could be the time for him to establish himself as our best centre half (Which I think he currently is anyway before a signing is made) . 7/ 10

Haliday has shown he must be played further up the park to make an impact and maybe that's why I'm personally harsh on him. Made a great goal line clearance but for me contributed to defensive frailties. 6/ 10

Holt was surprisingly quiet and if I'm honest didn't really do much in comparison to his normal standards. Maybe he is the type of player who really needs a preseason to get going I still have high hopes for Holt this season. 6/ 10

Forrester I feel was similar to Holt and is obviously trying to regain match fitness after an injury. 6/ 10

Mckay for me still showed us he has real quality and will make us a lot of money probably sooner than we will hope. 7/ 10

Kenny Miller does a lot off the ball that doesn't really get appreciated and makes a lot of runs that don't always get seen. Always a hard worker and always offers something different. 7/ 10

Waghorns left leg. 8/ 10

SUBS

Krancjar is clearly miles better than everyone around him even barton when it comes to technical ability. If he can get and remain fit will be our best player by a mile.

O'Halleron looks dangerous and I was pleased with what I seen of him.

Windass highlights the gaffers philosophy of adding something different. Was definitely more direct in midfield and has a physicality about him.

Excited to see every signing play as I feel in most cases they will improve the squad significantly with what they will bring although I feel we do need a CB to partner Wilson.

RossW

1.) 17 Jul 2016 19:29:23
Great post RossW.

{Ed041's Note - agreed

2.) 17 Jul 2016 19:58:07
Can't argue with your assessment mate, well put together, well done RossW!

3.) 17 Jul 2016 21:33:37
Fod 7/ 10
Still looks shaky every now and then.
Don't think he's vocal enough.
Might be the reason the two in front of him struggle from time to time.
Waldo 8/ 10
Solid as ever
Wilson 7/ 10
Looked better today
Kiernan 5/ 10
Needs to get his sh! t together, hopefully Hill will give him a few pointers when he plays
Tav 7/ 10
Again unconvincing defending but going the other way really good.
Think the new kid may oust him.
Halliday 6/ 10
Quiet day
Holt 6/ 10
Quiet day
Forrester 6/ 10
Quiet day
Kenny 7/ 10
Absolute workhorse
Waggy 8/ 10
Maybe proving a point and looking for a wee bit more on his contract offer but as usual worked his socks off and scored a cracker.
Barrie 7/ 10
Showed a few classy touches
Think he was trying to do too much yesterday and missed an open goal.

Nico 7/ 10
The boy has some touch if we can get him fit he will be an absolute cracker for us
MOH 7/ 10
Thought he looked quick and direct would like to see more of him
Windass 7/ 10
He looks strong direct and quit full of himself could be a great signing

Really looking forward to seeing the rest of the signings . I think we've got a cracking team being built. Not sure I could pick a first 11 at the moment and we've not seen Rossiter Crooks Barton maybe Dodoo another striker and a centre half. Man I'm looking forward to the new season.

4.) 17 Jul 2016 21:49:53
Not a bad post and mostly agree with your comments regarding the players and the performances. Think Forrester is the type of player who could do with a run of games before getting to his best. Defence though was awful and I'm not convinced with either centre halves both too slow and don't command the air. Tav once again great going forward but poor defensively.

5.) 17 Jul 2016 22:45:09
Our goalkeeper needs to learn how to come for cross balls and he must control his six yard box. He needs to improve considerably or along with our two centre backs he will cost us goals against the better teams.

Halliday is not a holding midfield player and Crooks, Barton and Rossiter will all be ahead of him for a starting role.

I di not think that McKay had a good game and again he needs to play consistently like he did against Celtic or he won't be starting. We simly can't carry passengers in this league.

Holt was poor by his own standards and will also come under pressure if he does not up his game. Everyone else I thought, played reasonably well and the worst person on the pitch was the referee that missed the goalkeeper's handball outside the box and the defender's handball inside the box!

6.) 17 Jul 2016 23:51:49
I thought middle to front we looked good especially the second half add to that the prospect of 1 or 2 more attacking players and we should have plenty of options and fire power for the season ahead! But our defence at times is shockingly bad I know we play that far up the park it will leave us short at the back and open to the counter attack but to be honest I personally don't think either RK or DW are good enough neither talk to each other it's like they've just met and its their first game together half the time. DW is probably the better footballer but we need a cb who is quick and aggressive in the air. But all in all I was happy enough considering it was our second game and I'm looking forward to going to ibrox on Tuesday and seeing how the new guys get on.

7.) 19 Jul 2016 00:40:10
Rossw i just about agree with your op post, but seriously think big wes will be no2 shortly, he is a good shot stooper granted, but can't command his box, to fumbly when put in that zone, i think if the reserve keeper puts on a good show tomorrow he won't be long in taken the jersey, tav gets caught out tto far forward, though can hit a ball, i think once our new signing bed in they will all be first team choise players, until we come up against lesser opposition, my opininon only.

8.) 19 Jul 2016 05:10:48
liked your post Ross think it should be a regular thing! :) Anyways I'm still undecided as to our No1 but whoever Warbs opts for I think he should giv the Lge cup to the back up whoever it may be? as for our defence I think Hill will shore it up and be 1st pick, would like to seriously Ball next to him but if the situation is Warbs going with Hill and Wilson then rotating with Kiernan Crooks and Ball I'm a happy Bear. Would love to see a 30yr old Amorouso arrive somebody big and experienced but who is available with our financial situation? after Dodoo and hopefully Ball can see Warbs bringing in 2 attack minded loans the boy Winks I think will still arrive.

You do realise if he signs he would be turning down a deal with the premier league champions right? Imagine a time where we are signing players from the champions of England in the current economical climate how could it be negative?

Hemmings and Rooney would have cost money we just don't have to spare for them. Wouldn't be adding value having to bid 1m+ likely for these players cause we are Rangers and clubs love to add a Rangers tax up here. MW has done more than well down south.

If you follow the club on twitter they usually tweet information on tickets closer to when they are going to be released.

Mate calm down its one game against opposition far superior and they looked it everywhere. Looked defensively weak as I feel playing Kiernan will always do. We are playing our least energetic midfield partnership which I talked about in my own post. Not a team in the SPFL will put that much of a challenge up. Barton Kranjcar and Haliday are too slow and don't provide enough energy in comparison to the likes of Windass. Crooks is our best player and he will show that playing CB with Wilson next season.
