Showing my age, but I'm looking back at our squad in 2000. I watched us smash sturm graz 5-1. I went mental when we beat Celtic 5-1 on flos debut. An absolute team machine, filled with winners. Klos, amoruso, Moore, numan, ricksen, albertz, Ferguson, de Boer, mccann, tugay, Reyna, gio van b, Dodds, miller mols. I'm missing lots, but every one of those boys put RFC first. Winners who fought for every ball and pass. Then I look at us today. Bereft of ideas. Lost boys playing at a mans club.
Instead of Fernando, we have Tav. Mgehoma instead of numan. Rothwell instead of Ferguson and Chermiti instead of mols. I cannot fathom how we have regressed so much. It's beyond belief. I was hopeful when the 49ers came in. Now I'm just sad. I dread upcoming matches and the club should be embarrassed because the people who paid to attend that match last night deserved better. What a waste of time and money. RFC seems to be dying before my eyes. Rohl has his work cut out.

Three Dutch internationals ain't coming to this league now, top centre midfielder like Ferguson would get out even faster now, our league has went down levels since they days.

We cannot attract players with superior ability these days, but there is no excuse not to attract a core of players who fight and dig in. 5/ 6 of the characters with leadership quality is where the ability can be sacrificed.

Great team but the wages we were paying back in the day there is no way we can match it in today's financial climate. That plus PSR dictate this for the benefit of our club.

That definitely was the pinnacle of attracting top class talent, other European clubs have now progressed to a stage we can only dream of now.

There are good players in our price range out there who would put our current crop of players to shame. We just need to employ the right guys to find them.

With the exception of Chermiti, the fees we paid for these players was in the region of £4-£5m. Time has moved on but the max we can afford to pay now is still in the £4m region and we can't afford many at that price. What a team though.
In today's market, I wonder what we'd sell Numan, Van Bronkhurst and Mola for?
