England is a safe choice thought storm lol.

Storm 7 of those players were in their squad when we beat them in last years EL but agree we need to widen our net again. Thelwell said this year was one off so hopefully we can have a core team from this season who we just need to add to and those recruits come from wider than down south.

interesting that they only have two Belgian players so they don't seem to have a route to 1st team for their youth either. not just Scotland.

I totally agree, we don't even need to look anywhere, Jefte and Igamane were brought in for peanuts and made us good money.

I get the blame Martin because we have been so bad and he clearly has no clue what he's doing here. But we are that bad it's not him alone,

I am more worried about Thewell right now because it's just a matter of time before the manager goes. Thing that's really bothering me is the number of loans, it's not like they are building for the future. That alongside the English market use are major red flags and I just don't trust he is the guy to get us on track.

To be fair I don't think him or Stewart will be at the club this time next year.

Angus that just means they have got better obviously as that's what can happen with players normally improvement with the correct manager. Martin has improved no one.

Angus I haven't checked but some could still have come through there even if they aren't Belgians mate.

Brugge are the ones that bring thru Belgians and this mob beat them to the title last season and are well above them this season and look what Brugge done to us.

Less risky with the English market . These boys know the British game and will hit the ground running accorting to Kevin Thelwell.

17 Sep 2025 13:17:40
Their positive signings have progressed them from a team that we beat last season in EL and a couple of seasons ago, on aggregate, in the CL qualifier, yet here they are playing in the CL.
While agreeing with the criticism of the current, only look in England policy, this time last season Koppen was getting slated for his signings too, Propper, Kasanwirjo, Jefte and even Igamane, admittedly on a much smaller budget . The last two have just made the club a lot of money, maybe we should have stuck with him and his plans as he seemed to have a wider net and even wanted to sign good Scots.

Rangers got to the Europa final with players costing under 13m.

17 Sep 2025 13:47:34
We had double that value on the bench on Saturday.

Does anyone know who scouted Miovski?

Storm I am not always looking for an argument with you. it was an attempt to add to the discussion.

so to compare us against Brugge for example in home match in CL we had 5 from last year and in away we had 3. That is why I mentioned USG having 7. so yes good recruitment is very important I do not deny that but I also think you need a constant base going from year to year for the team to grow. we haven't really had that since Gerrard probably. we need to establish that again as a first step with the next manager.

using Union SG they have been growing for a few years now. surprisingly they have a manager with no manager experience before he got there and has won 37 our of 65. so we do need the right manager but they are doing well with one who has no experience so I don't know what the algorithm is for choosing one. there must be a way but ours seems to be hot or miss, with it being mostly miss.

against Brugge last regular season they had 3 draws and a win so similar to us last year Brugge lost more points against the rest of the league than against their main rivals.

so not arguing against you but trying to have a discussion on why we aren't there already and whilst currently the main issue may be Russell Martin and Thelwell we have also a lot to sort behind the scenes from previous regimes.

Star I think we need to get the player trading model started and working for a few seasons to see the best of that. our squad is worth 50% more according to transfermarkt but yet we aren't seeing any signs of that as yet.
we need to get a stable base of the right players (with the right manager) and build from there.
There also isn't or wasn't the same expectation for a club who haven't won the league in 90 years so they got time to build to the level they are at. we need to do it instantly and that will be the difficult part for the new manager (and owners) .
always good to see a new name though competing int he CL against the big guns and will be interesting to see how Kairat and Pafos do this year.

MPH, we created a scouting pack on him when he was at Aberdeen - as part of NKs plan to recruit those who were proven in our league.

We lost out on so many other striking targets that we eventually started dusting down previous packs.

17 Sep 2025 14:38:02
Morph my understanding it was Purdy.

17 Sep 2025 15:30:01
Angus I wasn't looking for an argument either not every discussion on here is an argument mate ? we haven't been cheeky or insulted each other.

17 Sep 2025 17:11:17
I thought we were beginning to see an improvement and signs of trading model foundations being put in place last season, obviously not all worked but some good work. Unfortunately feels like its all been ripped up especially with all the loans. Can see Gassama and maybe Aasgaard making a profit but not much else.
