Been a Rangers fan for longer than 5 minutes so I know how much we as a fan base are so quick to have a go at our own players when things aren't going to well.

But this season has to be one of the most important in the club's history and its amazing to see how little we value some of our players and how easily we tear into them before a meaningful domestic ball is even kicked.

The euro catastrophe aside coupled with some awful performances from players who downed tools towards the end of last season, should have absolutely no bearing on what happens from 6th August onwards.

Fully optimistic going into this season. The spine of the team has been improved ten fold. Young promising defender alongside an experienced European Championship winning defender. Young Scottish midfielder alongside an experienced top level Scottish midfielder. Strong dominant Forward in Herrera alongside a great young prospect in Morelos.

What isn't there to be optimistic about?

04 Aug 2017 21:24:00
I share your optimism, but I've said it for years. "We are the most fickle fans in Europe"

We demand success . and rightly so, but when things go a bit pear shaped, we are too quick to criticise the Manager, individual players or the board.

Looking forward to the start of the new season with a renewed optimism. step up n play. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

04 Aug 2017 21:29:05
Well said thorn76 totally agree

04 Aug 2017 21:52:29
The quality throughout the team is incredible compared to last season.

Daniel Candeias has been quite great on the right and is probably the only outright winger we've had in a few years.

Pair him with the likely signing of Jamie Walker, it's looking like we have very strong options out wide. Compared to none at the end of last season.

Apart from Full Back we've improved every outfield position, which is sensational.

Pedro gets criticised when he deserves it, he'll certainly get praised when he deserves it.

04 Aug 2017 21:57:01
I've been guilty of this scepticism in the past but you're right there is scope for optimism - they and the shaggers have struggled in Europe as well as we have and there are beginnings of a good - not great - team
By the way good ol'Bazza scored for the bread mans oddball team tonight in the Championship for what looks a win

04 Aug 2017 23:10:45
I totally agree. We have been making steps each season in the right direction and now are at a point that we could maybe challenge. 3rd in the league this season is a failure considering the investment. Celtic played on a crest of confidence last season thinking they will win every game and all opponents thought they would win, its a cycle top teams can get in and stay in.

Someone must break that for celtic for a few games at a time and we must get into that groove to even have a chance to win the league. Right now a I don't know how the season will unfold but be assured we have a Rangers side on the pitch, Granted not the best ever but we can and should compete with the best the SPl can offer.

PS - Cardoso and Morelos will be at the end of the season be worth 10 m each.

05 Aug 2017 23:32:24
A very good post by the op! We need to be more optimistic! We do have reason to be! Our team has been I measurably improved (credit to the board! )

I hope we don't expect too much from young morales this season as I think he needs time! He'll be a good player for us but he's young and very raw! Herrera will be our main striker this season and he worries me a bit as he looks a bit lazy for my liking

04 Aug 2017 19:55:24
Would like to think we will pay up and sign walker type of player we need.

04 Aug 2017 20:26:31
Pena does not look like a professional athlete. Not only his body shape, but his demeanour and attitude appear to be all wrong. Looks very out of sort, someone whose best days are behind them and just going thru the motions.

04 Aug 2017 21:05:26
So you have watched him training!
At least you have spent sometime in his company?
How else could you make such an outrageous opinion.

04 Aug 2017 21:28:14
Have to admit Fd Pena does seem a bit out of sorts from what I've read but I do think he's a very talented Player and a physical one at that and he may be taking a bit longer to get used to the huge change in his life. Said before that if this guy was a absolute model pro he would have cost at least double what we paid. The guy just needs time and managed properly

04 Aug 2017 21:43:39
Your some guy fd, knowing all that by looking at a few pictures of a guy in a newspaper you've came to the conclusion that his demeanour and attitude are all wrong! Wow you've even decided his best days are behind him and he's just going through the motions! He could have stayed in Mexico and done that!

04 Aug 2017 22:27:47
I think this is why PC has signed him.
He is the wildcard. He is something different.
He will be a player the fans will relate to after he finds his feet. Probably because their is potentially sell on value as well. There was interest from England previously but the deal collapsed due to problems obtaining a work permit. This will all be in PC's thoughts.
We haven't even seen him yet but I'm sure we will allow him his chance.

05 Aug 2017 23:36:43
Pena when fit will be our main man imo! There's no way we shelled that money out on someone without due dilligence! Not in this period! The chairman must've been convinced enough to invest in him!
I think he may be a bit contraversial however, some of our best players had the same problem! your gazzas, grams etc

04 Aug 2017 18:32:20
So read that Tavs and Nico are out of Well game.
Looks like we will go with the exact same Team as played against Sheff. Wed.
The only thing I want to see is a LW arrive, don't get me wrong I would like to see others but a LW is top priority.
Think Windass played outside left against Wed with Jack Dorrans and Candieas in midfield but he's not really a winger but done the job of playing between the lines really well.
Does this mean that untill we bring in a proper LW or Ped fields Dalcio we will be playing a Diamond formation?

04 Aug 2017 20:29:24
Dalcio looks like MOH without pace. Need to get Walker in asap if we are to have a real attacking threat.

04 Aug 2017 21:48:51
When playing 442 we can't afford two out and out wingers with candias playing we need the guy on the opposite flank to help out centrally and with windass or niko in that role it's ideal as they will sit in a little! Not saying we shouldn't sign anyone just that I don't see us playing two wingers at anyone time

04 Aug 2017 23:47:52
Where is all this utter nonsense coming from? Do we always need to breed negativity? We get enough of that from everybody else without our own support bumping their gums about stuff they know nothing about.

The same people that claim Waghorn is out of shape also no doubt. Absolutely clueless.

05 Aug 2017 00:49:04
My above reply was meant to be for the post above about Pena supposedly not being an athlete physically or mentally. Not this post sorry πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

05 Aug 2017 07:26:13
My only concern is Hodson at right back. Sloppy at times. Could have done with Jose Abella when his name was circulating in the press. Think Hodson is weak in possession and ha poor positional sense. Done ok coming in as backup a couple of times but not a always. Sometimes looked out his depth.

05 Aug 2017 11:38:08
so you know Jose Abella then? where did you see him play? and Hodson, he is an international who keeps getting left out the team so how is he supposed to improve his game?
Fringe players need to get game time to prove their worth, and in Hodsons case he IS a better full back than Tavernier but hasn't had the time to prove it. Maybe this is his big chance?

05 Aug 2017 15:04:42
Simply implying the right back position requires freshing up, therefor I would like to see someone new brought in. Personally I would have preferred Paterson from Hearts but I think his deal with Cardiff was verbally agreed months ago.
As far as I know Lee Hodson has never had a competitive start for NI as he is behind in the pecking order to 22 year old Ryan McGlauchlin from Oldham. He's not breaking into the Rangers team because he's not good enough in my opinion.

04 Aug 2017 12:38:43
Anyone heard anything about the new away tops and when their meant to be released? With the season starting at the weekend, I would have thought the team would have these in reserve at this point. Noticed against Watford they turned out in white training tops.

04 Aug 2017 13:35:29
Sept sometime i was told in megastore

04 Aug 2017 14:30:29
I was in megastore last week and they're not put back to October

04 Aug 2017 14:58:43
SLO said October for home kits.

New Away/ Third top should be released September.

04 Aug 2017 16:44:20
Thought we were keeping Home Top for this Season and only introducing a new Away Top and a 3rd kit!
BTW what top is the Manky Mob going to use when they play Hibs at Easter Rd?
All their Tops are GREEN! I really cannot see any of their Kits being acceptable, does anyone else see this and agree and, what will be done about it?

04 Aug 2017 17:55:30
Andy who care's mateπŸ‘

04 Aug 2017 18:14:11
Andy, dear fellow, this is not your concern. Maybe we can release a fourth kit, just to help you sleep, all that green n white must be giving you the fear.

04 Aug 2017 18:44:20
Well that's the matter closed then and imo thank god as I really was concerned and the thought of it wouldn't go away hence why I thought I would bring it up but thanks to the powers that be I can rest.

04 Aug 2017 19:07:52
"Not your concern" coming from a Timothy on a rangers thread. Oh the irony!

04 Aug 2017 21:14:44
100% BLUE airus. Honesty hurts. Been called a lot of things, DONE a lot of things but that DOES rip ma knittin. Demeanor is what seperates us from the bottom dwellers and I can assure you I do not dwell!

04 Aug 2017 21:52:01
Alrus blue, I couldn't have put it any better myself lol

04 Aug 2017 22:10:03
Heres a wee idea, how about hibs wear their very dark kit (black) and Celtic wear their very bright kit (lumo green) . Just to settle your minds at rest.

05 Aug 2017 00:26:00
So hibs are going to wear an away too at home just to facilitate Celtic and the safety designers that made all strips green. Get a grip of yourself!

05 Aug 2017 07:36:02
Get a grip you say😁😁😁, eh yes and we shall do the same at Celtic park. Both clubs get along just swell, so i'm sure we will come to an agreement, something your club won't know anything about, its called compromise, plus it promotes the new away kits doesn't it, good business sense another thing your club lacks. This Rangers thread seems to be all about Celtic Alrus, wouldn't you agree. Oh the irony.

05 Aug 2017 09:58:48
Bhampot you talk total rubbish. All clubs and it's supporters know of what kits are available to them. Do you really think a team needs to wear them so the support know their available to buy? It's called marketing. something done in the process of selling a product. If you genuinely think because hibs are the junior Tims that they'll happily succumb and wear away jersey, making Celtic look superior to them at their own ground. then I'm afraid you've drunk in too much Celtic invincibles hype. It's pure arrogance for your club to release three strips all of the same colour.

05 Aug 2017 11:01:32
The invincibles hype?, what hype. It happened. Weve both worn away kits in matches before, what's the issue. Marketing never stops either, you have to be seen to play in the kit too, this creates an oppertunity doesn't it. why on earth did scotland and england have to wear away kits when playing each other, it was ok for over 100 years.

05 Aug 2017 11:57:48
Invincible hype as in you now think Celtic are far and above superior. Untouchable. Rosenberg didn't seem too feart and I think you'll find it not so easy this season. All teams want to play in home tops at their ground. This is common sense. That's why it's called a HOME top.

05 Aug 2017 13:22:09
Its commonplace for clubs to wear new away and 3rd kits at home when there's no real need to, and i'd really like to think that this season will be more competitive on all fronts from all clubs. So what your suffering from is an inferiority complex, which is understandable.

05 Aug 2017 13:57:52
Inferiority complex (Pfft) coming from a Tim where most exude a persecution complex is laughable. It's in your genes. Cheerio!

05 Aug 2017 14:43:38
Iv never had a persicution complex, i think your generalising and assuming were all irish and republican or that we have been roundly shafted by the underhandedness of Scottish football. I think we all know what you would like to say but cant. My genes exude those of an open minded decent human being, i treat others how i like to be treated, that's fair. i look down on cheating and cheaters, i look down on bigots and bigotry and i laugh at them squirming in a manky gutter, trying to hold there tongue in fear their true feelings being outed. Catch ye!

05 Aug 2017 16:27:30
Is that why your on a rangers thread then ya fud? If not for bigoted reasons and to antagonise fans of your opposition team. What other reason would there be. You've really got no logical way of looking at anything. No joined up thinking. Why not seek the company of your own instead of trying to elude to myself (us) being bigots and cheats. What's up? Your own think you talk mince also. Bolt!

05 Aug 2017 16:47:39
Whats bigoted about going on a Rangers page to answer a question about Celtics away kits πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚? None, logical yes? . If your defense is to cry bigot, then at least make sure there's bigotry involved, ya fud. I keep good company with various people of all walks of life, not small minded frustrated pondlife like you. I can feel your rage building, you better go scream into an empty box. Catch ye

05 Aug 2017 17:09:19
Rage - please, it takes far smarter and far more astute than the likes of you pal to get any rise from me. If you say your not on this thread to antagonise, berate or through bigoted reasons then frankly your incapable of being honest with yourself. Why would you be here? Why? If I were on your thread then I'd have to ask myself that now wouldn't I!

Go look up 'irony' or 'hypocrisy' in the dictionary. Then go back over what you've previously written in this thread. You contradict yourself time and again, over and over and then strive for the higher ground in an attempt the degrade and label the other parties. See your previous posts. Some education or professional help is required Bham. Get some!

04 Aug 2017 12:03:44
Well its nearly time for the opener of the season roll on Sunday. I hope we play the way we did against Marseille, Watford and Sheffield Wednesday if we do we should get a decent result! Anyway I don't meant to bring any negativity specially so close to the start of the season but I can't but think Herrera isn't going to get the goals for us i know he has only played a few games but in those games found him to lazy and got creating many chances. I would like to see naismith brought in he can play as either an attacking midfielder or a forward i think he will get the goals. Also Jamie walker for the wing as not sure dalcio is going to cope in Scotland either. That's just my opinion tho.

04 Aug 2017 12:34:38
I agree fully with you. I think Herrera will be the aerial threat if anything but I would ideally like to see Naismith and Miller up front. Two similar players yes, but they would work as a unit. Both being the target man in whatever goal scoring situation. Both fast and good centre of gravity.

04 Aug 2017 13:41:16
After reading your post and went and watched him on you tube the first goal I seen he take the ball about 35 yards out runs with it and scores he then scores loads inside the box including an over head kick.

But I would definitely say he's the 18 yard box striker with build that all us fans have been crying for if he doesn't score minimum 20 goals I will be shocked I'm more worked about morales.

I don't think there is any signing that we can make that would improve us enough too win the league I would stick with what we have as I think it will give us second place.

Sign walker in January on a pre contract. Naismith is good but unless he going to drop too 10k a week he shouldn't be signed we lost enough money from him when he left for free he doesn't deserve a big contract from us.

04 Aug 2017 14:36:56
Why sign Walker on a pre contract and say let's accept we'll finish 2nd to Celtic because we can't secure a signing to improve us? He does improve us if we sign him now and we can't all sit here and accept 2nd best. That's not the Rangers way.

04 Aug 2017 17:50:46
So do you think that Pedro will play the same formation and team against Well minus Hodson for Tavs.
Should Pedro play this system for all the games even against the Tic?
I think for some games we should change our formation so that we have Jack sitting in front of our back 4 in a 4-1-3-2 or a 4-1-4-1.
Honestly think we have a good squad which will only get better, but feel its still early days and games against Celtic the Sheep and prob Hibs should be played with more protection at the back.

04 Aug 2017 01:57:25
Spend Walker and Naismith money on Weiss and then Walker can sign a pre-contract in Dec.
Dont think it'll happen tho and Hearts will accept the 650/ 700k bid.
Still would love Weiss to come to Ibrox.

04 Aug 2017 10:07:35
I wish people would stop going on about weiss! That's a complete no go

04 Aug 2017 12:09:22
Must admit it's getting a bit tiresome. Move on, Listen to people like Alex Rae and DJ and their ideas on signings. It beats the same old 'let's get ex players back'rant. It's not as if Weiss is a Lionel Messi. Same goes with Naismith. Time to turn over a new page.

04 Aug 2017 14:59:55
Weiss is shite, i'm sick of hearing about this guy.

04 Aug 2017 17:25:56
Wladimir Weiss is on a hefty salary at Ali-Baba. There is no way Rangers will trigger his release and then pay his wages. Dream on!
