im getting a bit annoyed with us the now is whyte going to try and underpay for every transfer, im all for negotiating prices, but dundee utd are not going to let there prize asset go for a low price if they value him at 2 million, also cueller is worth 3 million what makes whyte think villa would let him go for 1.5 mil when they signed him for 8 mil two years ago crazy.if we want these players we need to pay the fees, otherwise were gonna end up with noone i would rather we invest heavily the now and get guys on long contracts, also if we qualify for the champs league thats another 10 million plus for players in january, i heard today we may get the option to sign weiss perm but would cost between 3 and 4 million, def worth it, this is when whyte has to show hes got the backing with whittiker as well i dont blame him for wanting a new challenege and tbh im not particularly bothered yes he is always fit but hes very hot and cold

Evening fellow Gers fans. thepundit here, just want to ask about Richie Foster? I think this guy has done enough to win a move to Rangers. His CL appearances alone were exceptional. I'm not saying he's a world beater, far from it, but squad players like that are cheap and Walter proved he can spot a defender. Whats your thoughts?...

Believable6 Unbelievable2

I agree, I feel sorry for Ricky having to go back to slumming it with the dons. Think he done more than enough to warrant a place in the rangers squad. dinnae think he's a starting 11 player though

Agree4 Disagree1

Same thoughts exactly Ricky Foster was a credit to the team hes not the best but hes good enough

Agree3 Disagree2

I agree he would be an ok squad player but i can think of two very high profile mistakes he made, he gave the ball away which put Samaras through for his first goal at new year and also dived in and missed the ball which gave Badwillie a free run up the pitch to score the winner when Dundee were in town which could ultimately have cost us dearly, but if he could play as well as he did against Man United then fair play to the boy, don't think we should be paying anything more than 3-400k for him

HBN

Agree1 Disagree1

Cheers for the replies. Squad player and no more i concede but gotta be worth a punt at £500k? He'll be gutted if he's playing for the Dons next season.. the fans are gonna give him a hard time.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Ricky Foster is not signed up I think he should be given a huge ovation when Aberdeen come to Ibrox. The guy was a good servant at a time when we cash strapped (we may still be by the looks of it) and injury hit. I know this would have happened anyway but would be interesting to see if anyone disagreed and if so, why?

I agree with all of you, i dont think hes a starting 11 player except in cl

GOODWILLIE PREPARED TO WAIT FOR 'GERS
Star Tells United He's Going Nowhere Fast

David Goodwillie, the SPL's hottest young talent, who in recent weeks and months has been linked with a host of clubs including Cardiff, Celtic and Blackpool, has told Chairman Stephen Thompson his tactics of trying to rush him into a move from Tannadice won't work, unless the club involved is Rangers.

Goodwillie, who scored in United's 2-1 win over Irish side Drogheda earlier today, is thought to have his heart set on a move to Ibrox and the chance to link up with boyhood hero and new Ibrox gaffer, Ally McCoist.

A new improved bid from the SPL champions is thought to be "imminent".

I don't see why we can't just pay 2m for David Goodwillie because him and Jelavic up front would be amazing and in a few years I think he could be just as good or better than Jelavic. Anyone agree?

Believable9 Unbelievable4

26 Jun 2011 22:06:01
I think we should make Jelavic a new offer on improved terms, his contract is only to 2014 so I think we should try and add another couple of years to that in order to really boost his transfer value. Realistically we cannot expect him to stay past this season.

Personally I'd love to see Cuellar back. I'd give Weir a new contract even if he doesn't play every week i'd rather him than Broadfoot Alan Smith is worth at least a trial. offer Dundee Utd 1.5m Plus Fleck on loan for the season for Goodwillie (That boy has been the next big thing for the past 3 seasons but can't seem to be consistent enough) and would like to see Obertan.

Dmrangers

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I really get annoyed at teams like Dundee utd thinking they can take all tge cash just because we are the old firm, they wanted Webster for nothing when we were trying to do a deal with him for goodwillie start last season, member he's not exactly the best behaved footballer out side

Agree0 Disagree0

Cuellar n smith (play up front with jela, not in midfield) would be great signings (quality over quantity) all we would be missing would be a wide player (not weiss) n another defender (bartley?) and would sign foster for squad player.

Evening Bears,

I work with Jimmy Siclair's son and am always asking him for the chat out of Murray Park.

He was saying that McCoist and his team have been looking at a number of players per position so he has options but that he is playing things down until the window opens on 1st July.

He wants to act quickly and get the players in so they have time to gel.

This makes me less worried over the fact we haven't made any signings yet.

The other chat from him is that the danns deal looks good and that rangers have been offered the chance to take alan smith for pre season from his agent, but didn't know if rangers would take the offer up.

I think we need to get in 6 or 7 players to make the squad decent, I would like to see us line up:

Mcgregor

Whittaker Boogie Carlos Cuellar Papac

Davis McCulloch Neil Danns

Naismith

Jelavic Lafferty

Subs a choice of : Vlad Weiss, Kyle Bartley, Weir, edu, Ness, Hutton, Fleck, Wylde, Lee Wallace & Like to see us sign 1 other striker and wide man.

That team above would be strong, the defence with boogie and cuellar would be great in my opinion.

unhappy bear

{Ed010's Note -I take your opinion on board but unfortunately it was "broken". Due to the sudden increase in the amount of traffic on this website, a single post, published on the rumours page, could and usually did take up a lot of space. This was simply because every contributor, who wanted to express a view or opinion on that post, had to copy the original post and place their comments below, so that everyone else could follow their train of thought. This new system allows contributors to add comments without the need to copy the original post.

I've been very intrigued watching Stevie Naismith grow as a player and as a person under Walter and I have a few points to make with regard to Naisy.

Firstly, I feel he has displayed all the attributes required of a good central midfielder. He can pass the ball, has great vision, excellent stamina, isn't scared of a tackle and is fantastic making late runs into the box. He played on the left of a 3 man central midfield against Motherwell in February and was a revelation as we won 6-0. I think a 4-3-3 formation suits the players we have and I think this is Naisy's best position as he has a terrific football brain.

I also feel he has the makings of an excellent captain. He shouts and moans which the most successful captains always do (Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Barry Ferguson, John Terry and so on). He doesn't hide from responsibility. When the going gets tough he is one who stands up to be counted for Rangers and thats what a good captain should do. He reminds me of Barry in the sense that he seems like he has a strong personality on the pitch, and I don't think he would be fazed by the challenge, even at a young age.

Ed what do you think about my 2 points?

{Ed010's Note - Steven Naismith creates a problem for me, that to date has never been addressed, by the Rangers management. He was bought as a striker from Kilmarnock but really hasn't played in that position very often. I totally agree that he has done well for us playing in the midfield but a there is one thing that you mentioned and one thing that you didn't, that makes me feel that we may be missing out on an even better player. You mentioned about his "late runs" into the box and for me, that is one of the greatest attributes of any good striker. The thing that wasn't mentioned is his natural goalscoring ability. I like Naismith in midfield but just wish that he would have been given the chance to play further forward, especially with Jelavic at his side.

With regards to him being a captain, I certainly wouldn't argue with you on your observations.

Why are some bears fans getting so wound up by lack of transfer activity, you are acting like my 7 year old when he gets a £1 it burns a hole in his pocket.
I am interested in getting the right players at the right price on our terms, the fact that Whittaker has been offered £20k and that was the 3rd offer which has reportedly since been improved on proved that we have the resources at our disposal.
I think you have to look at each signing target on an individual basis;
(1) Conway Not offered a deal because he was NOT a priority, a decent player for the squad no Big deal he went elswhere.
(2) Hemed previously on £1200 per week Rangers offered 6x that (£8k) and the possibility of champions league football, he was offered £15k and chance to play in La Liga if he went for the cash then it was a good escape as he would no doubt do a Keyal in a year if it was to play in a better league then the financial side is irrelevant, again not sour grapes but he has still to prove hes any good.
(3) Whittaker offered at least £20k compared to the £6k he was more than happy to earn for last 3 or 4 years which is a good offer.
(4) Goodwillie He has 2 serious charges to face so how much of a laughing stock will we be if we go all out to secure his signature only for him to face a sentence. We shouldnt be held to ransom because he has had a good season in SPL he again is unproven at highest level so theres plenty of baggage with him. Its still ongoing so we might yet get him.
(5) King Carlos is now 31 and has just had a serious injury and is in final year of his contract so the £1.5m was a fair opening bid, I feel we will get him for around the £2.25-2.5m mark so thats still ongoing.
(6) Neil Danns from the reports I have read recently we might get him and we are ahead of Ceptice with only a good offer from a premiership club his other main option so thats a 50/50 chance and I wont be fussed if we DO or DON'T get him hes hardly a superstar.
I am thrilled by what Whytes done so far, to start with he has put us in a far stronger financial position, he has appointed McCoist as manager when he could easily have considered bringing in someone else disrupting the harmony at the happy Rangers camp, then he comes out on SSN to advise us of his intentions in detail, sets £2m aside to improve our matchday experience and yet some people still doubt him c'mon get real the futures bright............

Believable12 Unbelievable1

Agree with most of this. Although Cuellar was born in August 1981, therefore he is 29 years old, not 31. And therefore entering the "prime" years of his career.

Agree0 Disagree0

We must be careful with King Carlos , He may be out for the first 2mths of the season.

If we wait till Jan, we may get him for free , offer Boogie a 1 year extension, with a clause to leave in Jan, if a good offer comes in from the EPL.

{Ed010's Note -What am I missing here. Why aren't Rangers fans prepared so give Craig Whyte the benefit of any doubt until there is absolute proof, that the rumours and speculation concerning him are correct. It is totally mystifying.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree mate, as ive told the other ed (ed7 i believe) whyte will get benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise
the tiger - beyond reproach

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi ED new to this page why go for goodwillie with serious charges against him would big Jock Wallace have even entertained such a thought also Cuellar is recovering from knee injury two dodgy signings in my eyes

{Ed010's Note -In my opinion there are two reasons my friend, for Goodwillie it is his potential and for Cuellar, it's his quality, having been over the distance before. If we are successful in securing both, only time will tell whether they are gambles worth taking.

Can people just stop with the let's run out and spend all our money as quickly as we can on whoever we can get attitude. This is exactly how we got into this mess in the first place. Tore Andre flo ring any bells. We have a good squad as it is, a couple of additions and we are sorted. As for players not wanting to come to the gers, that's life. I would rather promote youth players than have overpaid duds running about who don't care.

Would folk please stop with the Sebo rumours It's a lot of gumph, I think the Celtic fans should just stick to posting fairytale rumours on their own rumour page

{Ed010's Note -there are two ways of looking at these posts concerning Filip Sebo. On one hand Sebo is a striker who has just scored 23 goals in 22 matches back home in Slovakia and has one year left on his contract.

On the other hand, if people are posting Rangers interest in him, in an attempt to "wind" Rangers fans up, then it has, by reading your reply, created the desired effect.

Forget what Sebo did or didn't do as the case may be, back in 2006. He was a 22 year old at that time and it may just have taken him another 5 years to learn how to become a potent striker. I am not for a minute suggesting that Ally should go after him, merely suggesting, that players can and often do, mature at different ages.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

I'd love to see him, come back and spank Celtc

Why is everyone moaning and arguing about signings, not one of us knows how much Ally actually has to spend. Why don't we just sit back and see what happens in the coming week. As Ally said he has a list of who wants and who he can afford. The players we were supposidly looking at and haven't managed to sign are no better than what we've got already. If whittaker wants to go then piss off, if his heart isn't with the Gers then he's no use to us. Theres no point in wasting money or we'll be back in the same situation we've just go out of.

We should be delighted and looking forward to the new era at ibrox instead of complaining. Remember there wasn't any other bids for the club so i think we should lay off mr Whyte. GIVE IT TIME GUYS. What you think ED ?

RJS

{Ed010's Note -when asked my opinion on this very subject, I have always been consistent with my replies. Since November 2010, Craig Whyte has been "slaughtered" by the tabloid press, old board members and fans from other clubs, all questioning his business acumen and his commitment to Rangers. Despite all this negativity, the man did as he promised, he bought the club, wiped the debt to the bank and re-iterated that there would be transfer funds available to the manager for the next 5 years.

Since May of this year, this witchhunt has continued but now we can add Rangers fans, to the list of public dissenters. What else is the man meant to do ? He has built a £1b empire on the back of paying the right money for anything that he purchases and why should that be any different with football players. Rangers FC have paid over the odds for players since the Murray revolution. A generation of Rangers fans have been accustomed to us throwing any amount of money, just to secure the transfer of players, who in many occasions were just not worth it.

I agree with you RJS, let's see what the next few weeks bring and if by the end of August, we have not signed anyone, we are out of Europe and have lost our top players to other clubs, I will be among the first to admit that the dissenting Rangers fans wer correct. The reality is that neither you or I can change things at our club at the moment, based solely on perception but if all or any of the above happen, then Mr Whyte will have a fight on his hands and this will be one fight he cannot win.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I agree with you Ed come on guys give the man a chance. The transfer windows not open till Friday. They are more people getting on whytes back now than when we went through that period with no signings exept that player Rotten lol. Come the 23rd July and if they are still no signings or even 1st September that's when we should get worried. Yous never no he might be like Sir David Murray and pull rabbits out the hat. i have every faith in Super Ally enhancing our squad this season with quality signings, but there is no need to panic if guys like Danns, Cuellar etc are not signed up.
I think Bartley would be a great addition as would Goodwillie but lets stop panicking as it is early days.
I still reckon our Midfield players are all too similar, we need someone in there who can turn a game with a piece of magic and who likes to get forward.

Bolton apparently want Neil Danns so it's unlikely Rangers will get him now anyone with the STV news app will see it in the transfer clockwatch section. I'm not worried though about these signings, no point in anticipating a player coming. There are always an inferior team from abroad or something willing to pay them 50K wages etc. I will welcome anyone to Rangers who are coming to a massive club with the greatest history that want to win trophies if all everyone wants is the money then they can f off. This is why we should have got young men like Dorrans, McArthur and Andy Halliday young Rangers fans who would love to play for Rangers but got over looked when they could add something to the team. We will just wait and see who we sign, Lee Wallace would be a good signing.

Rangers FC will always continue to prosper ;) We are the people!

Dorrans would cost to much so why even mention him ??

INS -
kyriakos 1mill - 2mill or cuellar 2, 5
goodwillie 2 million
danns free
bartley 1mill or loan
wallace 750 thousand or in january 500k
kakuta loan
and if man u fail to sell evans by last day he will be loaned to rangers

OUTS
bougherra - 3mill
beattie 700k -1 mill
edu 3 mill
mcgregor 12 million

Believable0 Unbelievable5

INS:
Cuellar £2.5m I agree with, Kenny Dal apparently rates Kyriakos, Danns looks 50/50, Bartley would cost more than £1m prob £2m+
Wallace £750k I agree with but much less than £500k in January especially if he signs a pre-contract, Hearts will want rid of him off wage bill when his heart lies elswhere so I would expect £250k tops

OUTS:
Bougherra £1.5m tops he has 1 year left on contract and it appears there is little interest in him.
Beattie no chance of getting anywhere near £1m we may let him go for free to remove him from wage bill or for a nominal Fee.
Edu for £3m again wishful thinking we wont get anymore than £1m if we sell him.

Hi Ed- whats the thought behind the 'click to view rumour button'? Not sure it lends itself to your site! Good work though I love the site. Cheers.

GDog

{Ed010's Note -GDog, the whole "Football Rumours" is growing at such a rate that the site administrator, in conjunction with his program writer, have had to look at different ways to do things.

One of the main things that is currently happening is that every clubs pages are being moved over to different servers. With regards to the "click to view rumours" button, I am sure that you will agree that you would rather read a page of different rumours, rather than trying to find them, among posts that have already been published items and may have several other opinions added to them.

It now means that if someone wants to post an opinion or view on a rumour, they no longer require to reference or copy/paste the original rumour. The process was initially "trialled" on the Leeds pages and I paid particular attention to how it worked. I was very impressed with the outcome and asked the programmer to place it on our pages. I hope that through time, you and the other contributors will come to appreciate it's worth. If not, you are more than welcome to let us know.

Why don't we just sign goodwillie for £2m and just have the best attack in the spl

but I don't think whyte has all the money he's promised because if you can't cough up £2m for the best young striker in the spl

Believable0 Unbelievable4

Or maybe Craig Whyte doesnt want to pay 2million for a player who could be in jail in a few weeks

Agree4 Disagree0

Its about paying whats fair, if he is innocent on BOTH charges then £2m would still be the upper limit for a player who has had 1 good season in SPL but the boy Rooney at ICT only scored a couple of goals less and Hes pants so Rangers are right to not throw £2m at a player who could be in the Jail. I think the Champions should table a bid worth £1m initially with £500k paid if cleared of Both charges and again another £500k based on appearances or goals - If Utd think he really is the real deal then surely they would still get their £2m when he completes the appearances or goals part of the deal. We were skint for far too long and I for 1 would rather not go down that road again.

Myself and a lot of other fellow Gers fans out there starting to get a bit p*ssed off with the lack of transfer activity. Shock horror Mr Whyte....quality costs! 3m for Cuellar would be money well spent! As would 2m for Goodwillie! Plus why are we wanting so sign Neil Danns? We already have 5 decent central midfielders at the club. Mculloch, Davis, Edu, Hutton, Ness. Also surely we can offer the likes of Conway better wages or a large signing on fee? If you get someone on a free then instead of a transfer fee just give them some cash to keep them sweet. Again quality costs. Oh and finally why are we conducting all our business in public!? If you like/want a player then just contact the club, negotiate a fee, negotiate with the player then it's done. Dont understand all the fannying about we're doing!

Any thoughts ed? {Ed001's Note - I think you need to calm down and stop playing FM or FIFA *rolls eyes*}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

The transfer market isnt even open yet so maybe its not hm thats the problemand its the impatient people like you who just expect that cos he is worth 700 million that we will sign the first players that ome along onway is a left winger and we already have Greig Wylde who we all agree is onna be a good player so why hamper his development by siging conway? Goodwillie is up for rape and if found guilty will get sent down so why take the risk? and he causes nothing but trouble and we didnt need Hemed cos he had a good season in isreal hardly la liga or the premiership is it give Mr Whyte some time to sort the transfers out eh

Don't really see what Fifa or FM have to do with making a point but oh well The main point i was trying to make is the areas that need strengthened are Defence and the Wings. Also I think the point of paying for quality stands? 3m for a quality CB when we paid near on 4 for Kyle Lafferty cos he "had promise". Will happily hear constructive debate over these obvious footballing facts?

Agree1 Disagree1

And also saying about the transfer window not being open.....you can still have terms agreed and ready to go for the 1st of July

{Ed010's Note -you are right about agreeing terms and having contracts ready to submit on July 1st but it just could be that Craig Whyte/Ally McCoist prefer to do their business on or after that day.

Really isnt looking good on the transfer front, surely if we want these players we should offer more realistic amounts, although apparently goodwillie only wants to play for us so in that case it doesnt matter what other clubs offer united as the player has the final say, , , , , , what about hitzlesberger who left west ham, , , he is class and although the wages may be high there is no fee

Can anyone confirm the rumour that alan hutton is to be released by tottenham.?? Rangers sunderland and aston villa are interested. Its rumoured around the english press

{Ed021's Note - by release, you mean transfer listed? Premiership clubs have already done their releasing, ie Jonathan Woodgate @ Spurs etc}.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Ed I dont know about buying hutton back...never happen IMO but I would like us to take woodgate on trial and have him assessed due to him bein injury prone...dunno if this would happen but when fit he's up there with the best...

Tam-Sir 1873 loves rangers

Agree1 Disagree0

If this is true, ta ta Whitt's and let's see Hutt's back....... nice one if it happens, but still feeling a little anxious about the Goodwillie situation, as he would be a great foil for big Jelavic and there are loads of goals in that partnership.

Agree1 Disagree0

I would love Hutton back if we could get him for £2m or so and get SW punted to Bursaspor, hes well overated, he was roasted against Davie (Cooper) Templeton only a few weeks ago and he often looks like Bambi on ice when defending getting turned inside out, at least when Hutton gets skinned he is quick enough to get back goalside.

The truth is the David Murray way ultimately did not work, £10ers for £5ers etc. Whyte will use this season to build on the next 5 seasons +. You clearly have no idea about business, simple.

What were the backroom team doing in South America? They were there for almost a week and we have got nothing back. I am sure the players there are a lot better and cheaper than what we have right now... Any comments?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

You said it there back a week!! It would seem we are all a bit impatient. It could be the information they found was that there is no-one worth taking!! Did you think of that? It could be that they plan to grab someone from youth? Whatever the case its only a week and its most likely, in my opinion, that no-one will come from that area.

And cardiff and another unknown team put a bid in for him bt they wur rejectd coz they wur below uniteds valuation.plus am sure goodwillies up at court next week so doubt hes away tae ireland says that in paper the otha day ama rite wae that 1 ed? Brogie 82

{Ed010's Note -My understanding of any transfer talks for contracted players is this. If we take David Goodwillie as the example, Dundee Utd have placed a figure of £2m for a transfer to take place. This means that any potential suitor needs to contact Dundee Utd and agree to meet that figure. Once an agreement is in place, Dundee Utd will give their permission for that club, to speak to Goodwillie and to discuss contract details. In the case of several other teams also meeting the £2m the valuation, Utd will also give those clubs permission to meet with Goodwillie. It will then be up to Goodwillie which club he decides to move to. No club is allowed to make contact with Goodwillie if they haven't agreed to meet the £2m valuation. It therefore makes no sense for anyone to suggest that clubs, who haven't met that £2m valuation, are in contact with Goodwillie and are in discussion about contract details.

I don't know enough about court proceedings to comment on the legalities of Goodwillie being in Ireland or not.

A lot of talk about Whittaker going to Bursaspor. Personally i don't think he'd be a great miss! He constantly gets caught out in defence and last season wasn't particularly great going forward. Remember it was Broadfoot at right back who helped get us to the uefa cup final. Think there's much better out there and wont be to worried if he leaves.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Was it broadfoot that scored the screamer against lisbon in lisbon.....????? ya doosch

you wont know what you've lost in whitakker until he's gone. i think we have to keep him,

Hi ed 10 any truth in the rumour on the septic page that we are taking steve macmanus on loan or is he coming on a free transfer?to cover centre back position this season and if he, s decent are we keeping him? It says his dad was a mason from ireland and macmanus feels he might be able to kick start his career from here better than going back to celtic.as there arent many brothers left there now?

{Ed010's Note -Personally, I have no interest in a player's background or what teams he previously played for. My only concern is that he is either as good as or preferrably better, than what we already have. On both counts, Stephen McManus fails in my opinion.

Old Firm fans are constantly posting articles on the opposition's boards, knowing that the information will make it's way back. I believe this is what has happened in this case.

Advanced stage with Danns and Smith is still negotiating with Villa for big Carlos, but we won't be paying £3m. In my own opinion Mr. Whyte's inexperience in football transfers is quite apparent, if Goodwillie is good enough for our club (which I think he is) a few hundred thousand won't matter. I do believe he has the money he says he has but he seems quite naive to think we could lose out on the player by not a great deal of cash in the current climate. Someone will pay £2m for Goodwillie. Someone paid £3+ plus for an unproven, gangly N. Irishman once upon a time, who here's hoping will play for a whole season and not the last few weeks.
