Well he is a decent keeper and would be a good replacement should McGregor go in the summer.

Jim Stewart is eager for Matt Gilks to be fit so he can link up with Scotland and get him into the Scotland/ Rangers regime ready for next season!

Jim Stewart is on leave from his duties at Rangers due to an operation so i doubt he will be with the Scotland squad.

I know he is on leave but he has spoken to Gilks in the last week. Info from Gilks

Look at the furore when Judas did sign, burning scarves etc. I wasn't implying Rangers wouldn't/ aren't trying to tap into the Irish market, but just how those type of supporters would react to a possible Eire international signing for Rangers. I am running a sweep on the Celtic pages to see how many times Jermaine Pennant is linked with Celtic now he is eligible for Eire. Would Rangers fans accept him? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . We would sign pennant he's not been capped yet for Eire lol. After all he's really English isn't he? Just because his gran got up the duff when on holiday doesn't make him Irish does it? Lol ha ha ha

As for McCarthy, I'm hoping Wigan go down and Celtic can get him on the cheap, doubt it though, I watched him at Accies alot, this boy is going to the top, IMO he will end up at one of the top clubs in the EPL.

Ha ha ye i seen that Sickbhoy, how many times has he been linked so far? lol. I would defo accept Pennant, hes a more than decent player just as i would accept Doyle, Coleman or McCarthey although maybe noy McGeady lol. As for the lunatics, ye there would be people unhappy, chucking away season tickets etc but i think getting rid of the catholic barrier was much bigger than the Irish barrier. On the other side of the coin what would the reaction be if Celtic signed Chris Brunt or Jonny Evans, Northern Irish players who quite openly support Rangers?

Baz the Bear

I don't rate Jonny Evans, Brunt is a bit old, but I would have took Healy in his prime no sweat, as for a NEVER would be Laugherty, I just couldn't lol

I meant the lunatic fringe, not the decent ones, like yourself Baz (I hope lol). Both sides have their fair share of nutters, what has Celtic got to do with the PLO? That's political, not even our politics and definately not sport!

Thats obviously a long way off Sickbhoy but i honestly don't think it will make a difference, the vast majority of fans support the team regardless who they are or there background. Just look at the Diouf situation. Most fans agree that hes probably the last player we wanted or expected to sign yet, rightly or wrongly, hes becoming something of a cult hero. I think the whole "Rangers don't sign Irish players" rubbish is exactly that, rubbish. Most Irish players have an almost automatic connection to Celtic, so its probably a no-brainer that Rangers wouldn't be as successful in the Irish transfer market. James McCarthey was shown round Murray Park with the chance to sign but decided to go to Wigan. Rangers also had scouts at a recent Irish under 21 game but where given little or no encouragement from the player they where looking at, so i suppose its gonna take a high profile player of Mo Johnston levels to agree to sign for Gers before that barrier is broken down because its definitely not for the want of trying on Rangers part.
